Crystal Chappell named Entertainer of the Year!

Photo: Robert Milazzo

Crystal Chappell - Nov 19, 2009Days of our Lives and Venice star, Crystal Chappell is racking up all sorts of year end awards.  So many, that I don’t know where she could put them all if they were tangible property.   But in this new interview out today from TV Guide Canada’s Nelson Branco, the popular TV website has named Chappell; Entertainer of the Year, and while Crystal talks about Otalia, Venice and DAYS and her extraordinary year, there are some other fun quotes below!

Chappell on if she has shed Olivia’s skin and become Carly again:  “I do. I’m totally settled in as Carly now. In the beginning, there was a brief adjustment because I had to re-acquaint myself with the old way of shooting a soap again. That took a few weeks. Now that we’re heavy into Carly’s story, I feel like I know who she is again. And I’ve thrown some of Olivia into Carly whenever I can. I like that Carly’s darker. She’s a good person, but she’s no longer a victim and not scared to fight back.”

Chappell confirming if she is now an Olivia and Carly hybrid:  “Yes. Back in July, I remember when Gary was pitching me this story, he kept mentioning Bette Davis. Any producer who draws on black-and-white film is a friend of mine because they are well-constructed and classic stories! I love that Carly’s a murderess, an adulteress, and a thief — and that she has no remorse. I love it because Carly’s the perfect soap character [laughs]!”

Chappell on if she will submit herself this year of Lead Actress contention at the Emmys: ” I am. I haven’t looked at my material [with a fresh eye] yet, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be submitting the GL graveyard scenes where Olivia tells Natalia she loves her.  I don’t think I have the material on DAYS yet to submit my name for Emmy consideration. What I filmed this past week as Carly is really dramatic but that won’t air until February. There’s a lot of juicy stuff coming up for Carly. More than likely, I will only submit my GL work. Alison Sweeney and Ari Zucker delivered such unforgettable performances this past year that I think it’s their year to be recognized.”

She most definitely has to submit herself, or however they do it for a defunct show. Here’s hoping she gets a chance for another Emmy.

Rob Scott Wilson and Victoria Konefal to Exit DAYS as Ben & Ciara

After all the speculation and reports, it looks like #Cin may be taking it on the road!  According to multiple reports and confirmed by Soap Opera Digest in their latest issue on newsstands now, next week on the Friday, July 8th episode of Days of our Lives, it will mark the final appearances of Rob Scott Wilson and Victoria Konefal as Ben and Ciara.

However, while Ben and Ciara will be off the canvas on a new adventure, #Cin fans won’t have long to wait to see them appear on their screens again, when the following Monday, July 11th they will be part of the first episode of the Peacock limited-streaming series, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem Chapter Two.

According to SOD, the exits of the popular characters came about when Victoria Konefal opted now to stay with the NBC soap opera and to continue her desire to spread her wings and do other projects.

DAYS head writer, Ron Carlivati shared: “She (Victoria) really just wasn’t available on a regular basis, and in the way our show works and how you have to schedule people, it just became less feasible to keep her in that status.”

The head scribe also added: “The couple is so popular, you want them to have a happy ending. But then that involved writing Rob off the show, who doesn’t necessarily want to leave.”

There has been significant social media and internet buzz over the last few weeks that Rob will actually return to Salem as a new character.  Once such character being bantered about is that of Justin and Angelica’s son, Alexander Kiriakis,  Could that be the trick up the writing teams sleeve to keep Rob on DAYS, or is something at else at play and this is a red-herring?  Stay tuned!

So, what do you think of the upcoming departures on-screen of Ben and Ciara on DAYS? Comment below.

Sal Stowers On Final DAYS Airdate Shares: “What An Incredible Journey These Past Seven Years Have Been”; Lamon Archey Adds, “Days fans, THANK YOU! We made a SUPERCOUPLE & a SUPERFAMILY #ELANI”

That’s a wrap for both Sal Stowers and Lamon Archey and their on-screen alter egos, Lani and Eli Grant.  Today on the July 1st episode of Days of our Lives,  the couple exited Salem paving the way for the real-life departures of Sal and Lamon who are going on to pursue other TV and film roles.

On her final airdate, Sal tweeted: “What an incredible journey these past seven years have been. To all our #Elani crew and #Days fans thank you for loving and supporting us the way you did. We will miss you much, I will miss you. Xx”

Lamon Archey also added his own tweets, sharing: “#Days fans, THANK YOU! We made a #SUPERCOUPLE & a #SUPERFAMILY #ELANI”

In story, Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) had a special farewell for Eli, and Abe (James Reynolds) adopted Lani so he could be her father again, in very touching moments on the air-show.

Still the departures of Sal and Lamon, who became quite the popular duo as #Elani, will be a very big blow for the long-running NBC soap opera.  But in soap operas, you never know when your favorite actors or characters might return.

So, sad to see Lamon and Sal as Eli and Lani exit Salem today? Comment below.
