Days Of Our Lives
DAYS Casting Contract Role Of New Doctor! Who Would You Suggest For The Part?

Courtesy/NBC
Looks like there will be a new doctor in the house on Days of our Lives.
According to a casting notice shared on Soap Opera Digest, the long-running NBC daytime drama series is casting the contract role of Dr. Caleb Cooper.
The soap is seeking a strong, established actor between the ages of 45-55 for the character, who is described as a “Good-looking loner. He lives on a self-sustaining farm in middle America, completely off the grid… He finds peace and joy in nature. He keeps his past as a doctor secret, hiding the truth about a traumatic tragedy from his past.”
The role of Caleb will begin taping in August.
So, put on your casting director hats now DAYS fans! What actor familiar to daytime or primetime audiences, or perhaps someone the show should be aware of but may not, do you think would be a good fit for the part? Comment below!
Vincent Irizarry !
so much upheaval… it’s been blundered… that distending belief
is
Deimos has a twin brother !
Love it, Patrick.
Ok you hold a national talent search in Australia for a new doctor.. Fly him to America… Exhaust all airtime killing off favorites.. Making favorites murderers and out of character hypocrites and somebody says.. OMG.. Doctor Flynn.. Who.. That Aussie actor..oh shiznit.. let’s kill Daniel.. Give Brady his heart.. Ooooo.. and give him hallucinations.. Yeahhhh.. of a girl Flynn knows.. Now toss him to Nicole.. NOW. Ooooo.. wait for it.. He knocks boots with KAYLA… the brass says we need another brooding doctor.. Oh.. yeah.. Too bad that Aussie didn’t work out… AAAAAHHHHH….OMG.. so over it.. and just because Kate Mansi opted out she’s leaving in a mask and Kate is NOT HAPPY.. I suspect for dramas sake she’ll flip out big time and go out in that Hannibal Lecter mask BO was forced to wear.. UGGHHH
Robin Christopher ! and/or bring back Crystal Chappell
You’ll be shocked to find out your nominee’s for the role of the male doctor are both women.
Yes, and yes!!
They’re looking for a man.
Will his past include a heart transplant that results in having memories that belong to the organ donor?
Lol, Tomas….my sentiments, exactly.
I was thinking Michael Muhney. He would be perfect…..let’s have a brooding doc, with a bit of mystery. Isn’t that the theme on all soaps for a doctor? Male or female?
But doctors have to “touch” patients quite abit, Celia. It might be OK if breast exams arent needed, LOL!
*aren’t
@4ever DAYS.
LOL, 4ever. Great paly-on words. So apropos. Too funny!!
they should try… Jon Hensley…. ex-Holden Snyer, ATWT
smoldering intensity… I say he still does
Yes. yes. yes. I was thinking the exact thought. The perfect soapy hunk. Says so much with his presence. He should be back on a soap now.
That’s a good idea, too! B&B put him a white coat for nothing more than a glorified walk-on.
How about Bradley Cole (formerly Prince Richard on Guiding Light)?
Jon Hensley
Ricky Paull Goldin. Would love to see him back on a soap.
Ricky Paul Goldin or Grant Alexander or Michael O’Leary… please also bring back Kassie DePaiva FT pronto!
Love Ricky!! Yeah!
Ted King……50 yrs.old….possible love interest for Nicole…..or for returning Eve.They played good together on OLTL.
Mike Horton…
Yes, Mike Horton, too, Jimmy. All good suggestions.
I’m still wishing for a Jonah recast & a Stephanie recast. So, this character doesn’t excite me. However, I miss seeing Grayson McCouch, Rick Hearst, Kurt McKinney & so many others.
I think Jonathan Jackson could play a good doctor!
Nope! He needs to go back to GH as Lucky!
i agree…
Paging Dr. Alan Quartermaine!
I suggest someone who wants to work part-time and is comfortable with a boss who is impulsive.
Scott Reeves. Scott Reeves. Scott Reeves.
Good idea…didn’t think of him
If only they had saved Vincent Irizarry for this role. They are ruining him on DOOL and limiting his future.
yes, exactly… my thought
I do believe Deimos is not who he says he is. After today’s episode? He called Khloe and identified himself as Robert? Hmmmmm!!!!!!!
So, Dr Ruth; you may get your wish. LOL.
I didnt hear him say that-must have been distracted with my cat who likes to pick fights with me….that could be interesting….
@ Jimh ( leave it to beaver)
Lol, Jimmy. Now I’m second -guessing myself. I was certain he said…” It’s Robert. I need your help”.
And, yes. This turn of events could get very interesting, if I heard right.
@jimh.
Hey, Jimmy…I replayed that particular part of the episode; and, Deimos said exactly what I heard him say on the phone.
I heard that. He has a double life. That was Chloe? She looked slightly different.
Good! Then he has a chance to redeem himself and stay on.
@ Dr Helen Ruth.
I deleted the episode….I think it was Khloe. LOL. As jimh said….interesting.
I’m with all of you : Celia / Dr. Ruth / JimH
I hope Deimos is not who he says he is… we want him around
i’m 9 eps behind… I’ll get their
@Patrick.
I guess we were tricked, Patrick, LOL. Deimos is Deimos. Robert is the fake name given to Khloe.
Now, what a coincidence, eh? If TPTB needed her to return to Days, why the rlaborate story? Why enmesh her in Deimos’ life? Hmmmmm. Stranger and stranger, Patrick. Where are they? Where is Khloe’s house?
One thing….I hope he clears Nicole. But, it seems he has no intention of doing so….for a while, anyway.
Jon Hensley would make a wonderful doctor.
up to this point
Jon Hensley, ex-Holden Snyder, ATWT
Ted King, ex-GH/OLTL , Lorenzo ,
Michael Muhney, ex-Adam, Y&R
why not think about Matthew Ashford ?
David Fumero or Michael Muhney
Michael E. Knight, lol.
I would love Michael Knight. If he dyed his hair, he would look half his age. He has a very youthful face and appearance.
I too vote for MICHAEL E. KNIGHT – he is on the West coast now, he is 50’ish and looks younger. Lord knows he has acting chops and would be a welcomed added attraction for Days of Our Lives.
I honestly think he would be a great fit and then he could battle with Deimos and has good chemistry with Vincent who currently plays that role.
bring back a familiar doc…
mike horton… followed by carrie and austin peck austin!
throw in nicole and u got a love entaglement!
put nicole with characters we care about. i.e eric!… not new characters like daniel or deimos and again we dont need useless newbies to be gone under the next regime change
Kamar de los Reyes – 48, perfect age.
Hmmm…Have to wonder if his secret is that he’s a also a priest who once had an affair with a police officer’s wife, got shot and is currently on leave from his duties to the church. ??? Oh…no, that’s already happening in GH and soaps never copy. Right? LOL!
It would be lovely if this was really a returning Mike Horton! Then he could have all the secrets he wants as long as a Horton returns to the fold.
I would choose Nathan Fillion as the new Doctor for Salem. He has the looks, the intelligence, the charm and the eyes to hold the secrets of his soul and yours. His eyes speak of pain and mistrust. Yet, he looks at people with sympathy and concern. He needs that one person who truly needs someone to help and he needs someone too.
Michael Muhney. He’s my vote for every new male role. Such a versatile talent.
He’s banned! clearly and I’m not sad about it, at all. Talent is easily overshadowed by boorish behavior.
I agree Michele, Michael Muhney is super talented and missed. I’d love to see him on a soap again.
I mentioned MM above, as well. However, considering all the ‘mishaps’ he went through, I doubt any doors are opened; even if he were willing to enter.
Sony owns Y&R. Sony owns DAYS.
Not going to happen. I absolutely agree that he’s a talented actor. I hope he finds work but I don’t think this is likely.
Carl T. Evans, Casper Van Dien, or Forbes March
Yes! Forgot about Carl T. evans
me too, man was he beautiful.
Jeff Branson from Guiding Light
Jon Hensley for sure. He’s the right age and extremely handsome and needs to be back on soaps.
I liked him on B&B.
MATT jack could return
Scott DeFrietas, Isaiah Mustapha, James Cho, and of course my love forever….Eddie Cahill
Just found out Michael E. Knight is leaving Y&R, so hope DOOL will consider him!!! One can only hope bc he would be such a great catch for the part!
Didn’t Michael Knight just become available!
I agree, 50’ish Michael E. Knight sounds like a good match for the role.
Does it really matter at this point? Days has become so unwatchable thanks to Ken Corday and his stuipid moves.
You guys have mentioned some great actors- Bradley Cole, Ricky Paul Goldin, Jon Hensley are all actors I thought of for the role. There are so many good actors who aren’t working in daytime that would be great in the role. I do hope they stick with recognizable soap names and stay away from primetime vets. I think bringing an actor from AMC or GL could possibly bring more viewers.m
And to Ryan’s comment about Days being unwatchable, I agree it isn’t the best right now. I have watched for nearly 32 years and would never abandon ship.
Dislike: Weaving Nicole into the Deimos vs. VIctor story was a mistake. THe writers should have let Brady/Justin take him on. I also wish Maggie was walking again. The biggest challenge is that they shoot episodes so far ahead that they cannot tell what is working or fix anything for 6-8 months! The Hernandez family eats up airtime with no real storyline. Summer is a bummer. Barely any airtime for Justine and Adrienne/Lucas are pretty much MIA.
Like: I like Gabi and JJ, am glad Jennifer is clean and hopefully headed to a better place, and I find the young actor who plays Chase to be quite talented. It was a poor choice to have him rape Ciara, but longtime fans remember Jack raped Kayla..and over time he became one of our favorite characters. Aidan’s return is soapy and while I am not thrilled with how that story started, I am interested to see where Aidan’s story goes, much to the credit of Daniel Cosgrove. Sonny is returning and I am assuming that will mean more Paul. I like Marlena’s scenes with Ciara.. the young actress is actually growing in her work with Deidre- much like Molly did with Suzanne several years ago.
Hopes: Jennifer gets a fun romance and isn’t involved in all this darkness. Adrienne, Justin, and Lucas air more often and are involved in meaningful story. Maggie regains her ability to walk. More Phillip would be nice… maybe mix him with CHloe and Nicole.
I AGREE that it was a poor writing choice to have young Chase rape Ciara – it wasn’t well acted, wasn’t believable – and serves no real purpose. The two young actors involved didn’t have the dramatic skills to make this kind of scene plausible.
I also think (this is a little off-topic) that it’s abusurd that Hope would give Aiden a “second chance” and give a little bit of the brush-off to Rafe. Aiden perhaps didn’t “go through” with murdering Hope but he at least CONSIDERED it and that alone should put him on Hope’s S——list. Rafe would be a much better choice for her. Wait till she finds out that Aiden has now committed Legal Fraud by creating those Wedding documents for Hope… Tsk Tsk…..
I’m sorry I meant to write that he forged those Wedding documents for KATE not Hope.
James depaiva ex max oltl or stephen schnetzer ex cass aw would be two great choices
Definitely Jon Hensley. Right age, and in the white coat he would look like a doctor, and not like a guy playing one. I think he and Kayla would be great, and if they wanted to put him with Jen that would work too.
Kayla belongs with Steve, Lia….LOL.
But, Jen? Yes, definitely….it’s time to breathe some positivity into her life.
Jon Hensley? I am not familiar with his acting. I looked him up, and you’re right. He has the ‘look’ of a doctor.

Beyond the Gates
Daytime Drama Casting Directors Talk Four of the Most Challenging and Important Recasts of Their Careers
Daytime soap opera casting directors: Greg Salmon (The Young and the Restless) Marnie Saitta (Days of Our Lives), Christy Dooley (The Bold and the Beautiful) and Kim Coleman (Beyond the Gates) discussed the process of casting for a daytime drama series from contract players to under-fives along and their expectations for auditioning, plus behind the scenes casting tales at their recent panel from the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
The entertainment industry event helps actors receive inside intel from leading casting professionals and took place just over a week ago at the Meryl Streep Center for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles.
Moderated by noted journalist Jim Halterman, one of the more intriguing moments of the panel discussion occurred when the subject turned to the challenges of a recast on a soap opera and replacing a popular actor with another in a very key role. Each of the four casting directors were able to put a spotlight on such an occurrence and all were leading men on their respective soaps.

Photo: SAGAFRAFoundation
For Marnie Saitta at Days of Our Lives, she was tasked with finding the new EJ DiMera. James Scott had become amazingly popular in the role from 2006-2014. Then, enter Dan Feuerriegel, who had the right stuff for DAYS to finally pull the trigger and cast the new EJ. The character returned on-screen in 2021 after 7 years.
RECASTING EJ DIMERA
“I do know now how to best approach a recast, like I’m casting a new character,” explains Marnie. “I feel like the actor just has to come in and make it their own. You can’t even try, looks-wise, to be quite honest. Obviously, EJ DiMera is kind of a focal point (of DAYS) and Dan was such a champ. I swear to God, I think I brought him in maybe six times. I would bring him in for other characters, but I kept thinking he’s really good for EJ and it didn’t go. Then, I brought him for something else, same thing. I knew that the role of EJ was going to be really difficult to find, and it finally clicked. He took EJ in a different direction. He has a totally different vibe, but equally as effective.”
RECASTING ADAM NEWMAN
For Greg Salmon, he discussed the pivotal role of Y&R’s Adam Newman, who was previously by Tracker star, Justin Hartley and what he looked for to be able to find the right actor to be the next black sheep of the Newman clan.
“We had Justin Hartley playing the role of Adam Newman before he went to This Is Us, and now Mark Grossman has been playing him,” explained Salmon. “So that was a really tough role to recast. Before Justin, there were two other people (Chris Engen and Michael Muhney) who played the part. Adam Newman is central to the show. This is Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) son. So, it’s an incredibly important character to the show. But now, Mark Grossman’s been playing the role for several years now. He’s completely made the role his own.”

Photo: JPI
Salmon added the key attributes that Mark Grossman or someone like him brings into an audition for the role of that is being recast, “I really think it just comes down to the person’s energy and what they’re bringing to the character,” explained Greg. “You can’t think, ‘Well, I know Justin Hartley looks like this. And the guy before him looked like that,’ because then you’ll just get trapped. You’re not trying to find another Justin Harley. You’re trying to find another Adam Newman. I just remember Mark came in and I think he read with Eric Braeden, and he read with a few other people of the Newman family, and his energy was just off the charts. You know, this is how Adam should feel. Eventually, I think the audience really accepted him.”
RECASTING RIDGE FORRESTER
In a little-known casting story, The Bold and the Beautiful’s Christy Dooley shared how Mark Grossman almost became one of the Forresters! “He tested for us (at The Bold and the Beautiful). Mark came in and read for the role of Thomas Forrester and he was my choice for the role,” says Dooley. “The role wound up going to Matthew Atkinson, but then he came down to read for The Young and the Restless.”
Dooley was also tasked with one of the biggest soap recasts in history when Ronn Moss exited The Bold and the Beautiful in his signature role of Ridge Forrester which Moss played from 1987-2012. Eventually, Thorsten Kaye took over the role at the end of 2013.

Photo: JPI
“When Ronn Moss left the show, Brad Bell (executive producer and head writer, B&B) said, ‘I can’t recast him right now, he’s just too familiar.’ So he waited. The character was always talked about because he is one of the Forresters. Brad finally said, ‘We need to bring him back. We got to find somebody.’ Then to get Thorsten Kaye, who’s so different than Ronn, and he made it completely his own. He’s just amazing at it, so I think time helped (between bringing on a new Ridge.)”
RECASTING DR. TED RICHARDSON
For Beyond the Gates, Kim Coleman, she has a soap opera that is now building a new legacy only in its second season. However, in season one, Maurice Johnson became the first recast in series history when he was replaced as Dr. Ted Richardson with Keith D. Robinson and at a critical point in the storyline.
Coleman explained, “I think it was a transition and everyone was in agreement that it was the right thing to do. And then fortunately, we brought in an actor that the audience knew. They knew his face. He was great. Keith made it his own and there was not a lot of controversy and it wasn’t complicated. Keith D. Robinson is on the show now and everyone loves him. So, it was a very smooth transition.”
You can check out the full conversation with daytime casting directors, Greg Salmon, Marnie Saitta, Christy Dooley and Kim Coleman below.
Now let us know which of the four recasts noted do you think was the most successful? Were you surprised to learn Mark Grossman was a favorite of casting director Christy Dooley for Thomas Forrester before landing his role as Adan Newman? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
Days Of Our Lives
Who’s Kissing on Who This Summer On Your Favorite Soaps?
Summer is here and that means soap fans can look forward to some steamy romps, some new romances and some shocking love match turns. So, who might hit the sheets with who? Who might just start a new love affair? Who might turn back to their exes?
We are highlighting five potential pairings that have us wondering what will play out in June as Swoon gave their upcoming monthly rundown on love in the afternoon. Take a look at what’s being teased and then you can let us know how you feel about it!
On The Bold and the Beautiful, now that Will (Crew Morrow) and Electra (Laneya Grace) “seemingly” are back together, R.J. Forrester (Brayan Nicoletti) and Dylan (Sydney Bullock) will hit the dance floor and then the bedroom. Will they actually fall for each other, or eventually plot to split up Will and Electra?

Photo: JPI
In addition, will Remy (Christian Weissmann) get his man back, now that things are looking up for Deke (Harrison Cone) if he works with Hope (Annika Noelle) at Logan? Remy had convinced himself through his support of Deke all will be forgiven? But let’s not forget what he’s capable of … blackmailing cousin Dylan and making deep fakes of Electra and plastering them all over social media.
EXES AND NEW FLAMES
Days of Our Lives summer sizzle extended preview first previewed a surprise lip-lock when it showed Chad DiMera (Conner Floyd) sharing a moment with Belle Black (Martha Madison). The thing of it is, it’s caught on a “Kiss-Cam.” Previously, Belle was in a relationship with Chad’s brother, EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel), so where is this heading? To the bedroom? Stay tuned.
General Hospital continues to have two execs, Willow Cain (Katelyn MacMullen) and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard), dancing around each other. The heroic cop seems determined to help out Willow since he believes she was wrongly accused of shooting her husband, Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison).
Viewers know she did that and even worse! With Chase’s wife, Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) threatening Willow to get her claws away from her husband, and Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) trying to shove Willow and Chase together to make her look like a cheating wife to get the leverage against her, we wouldn’t be surprised if something happens between them, but what?
On The Young and the Restless, after his live-saving bone marrow transplant following his aplastic anemia diagnosis, Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) returns to Genoa City and reconnects with Dr. Stephanie Simmons (Vivica A. Fox).
It was through Dr. Simmons diligence, Cane Ashby’s (Billy Flynn) marrow, and learning that he has son in Holden Novak (Nathan Owens) that makes Malcolm have a lot to be thankful for, and he just might rekindle his romance with Stephanie with whom he dated back in the mid 90s.
So, of those listed above, what potential pairing has you most intrigued? Which are you not happy about? Do you think all of these characters will enter into a romance or an affair … or it’s all just a big red herring from their respective soaps? Weigh-in via the comment section.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Summer Sizzle Super-Sized Teaser: DiMera Legacy On the Line, a Health Crisis, Plenty of Romance and Backstabbers
As things get hot, so does Days of Our Lives as the summer months are here and that means temperatures go up on the Peacock streaming soap opera.
Now the long-running drama has released its summer sizzle promo video, where there are a lot of quick little nuggets that tease DAYS fans of what is to come.
First, much of the action centers around the machinations of EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) as he is heard saying about the family legacy, “Father built an empire, and I must carry his vision forward.” Meanwhile the extended trailer shares, “When legacies are built on lies, even love leaves a scar Not every wound heals, not every bond survives. In Salem, even the innocent have something to hide.”

Photo: Peacock
EJ IS EVERYWHERE
Philip Kiriakis (JP Lavoisier) warns his friends and families about people losing everything thanks to EJ, which in turn has him in a major showdown with Gabi (Cherie Jimenez), and let’s just say, he is not too pleased with her.
EJ is heard saying, “Everything I do, every decision, every sacrifice. I did for this family.” That includes: bringing back his sister from the dead and Lexie (Nikki Crawford) looks very unhappy about something. In another moment, EJ is about to throttle his sister, Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) when he yells, “You tried to murder my son.” Does he finally know what Kristen’s plot was with Sophia?
EJ even appears to be firing Dr. Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) from her job at University Hospital. Sarah is also seen making out with Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) making everyone wonder if she is finally over Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) ? Thing is, he is truly not over her.
Then, there appears to be a public health crisis with pills that are laced going around Salem. Chanel (Raven Bowens) is trying her best to hang on as she is about to bring a baby into the world while battling breast cancer. Scared, she asks the doctors, “I need to know about the effects on my baby.”
MACHINATIONS AND THE TRUTH OF THE PAST
Another bad boy is back in Salem when Dimitri Von Leuschner (Peter Porte) seems back to his evil ways. Meanwhile, Stephanie (Abigail Klein) fires a gun, but at who? The truth about Cat’s (AnnaLynne McCord) past may finally come to light and be the downfall of her relationship with Chad (Conner Floyd) and maybe EJ too.
Back in July 2025, Peacock confirmed that Days of Our Lives will return for its 62nd and 63rd seasons. The series celebrated its 60th anniversary in November of 2025, and continues to shoot ten-months in advance of dropping new episodes.
Take a look at the summer sizzle Days of Our Lives extended promo below.
Then, let us know what is most intriguing to you? Does much of it excite you … or not so much? Weigh-in via the comment section.
