DAYS Casting New Role Of Female Physical Therapist Hiding A Dark Secret – Who Would You Suggest?

By Michael Fairman

Published

on

Days of our Lives has a casting call that has gone out for the role for the new character of “Keara Baldwin”!

According to Soap Opera Digest, she is described as a 25 to 30-year-old beautiful Caucasian, who is a physical therapist and who grew up poor. The casting breakdown also notes that Keara: “Hides herself behind plain hairstyles and glasses as well as a dark secret about the last few years of her life.”

The role starts shooting mid-late February, but soap fans will most likely not see the character air till May since DAYS shoots three months ahead.

Alright, hiding behind plain hairstyles, means she is probably got to be a knock-out!  So soapers who you suggest for the role that you would love to see back on daytime?  Weigh-in!

Sounds sort of like Chloe (Ghoul Girl) came onto day…plain and boring but a beauty in disguise…

Most of the ladies I think of would be too old to match the description. It will probably go to a newcomer. Except for the age, the first person I thought of that needs to be on daytime SOMEWHERE is the great Kimberlin Brown.

I hope she’s Jeanie Donovan or another Brady to tie her to cast. They better be creating a new female character for Rafe or Lucas.

I wouldn’t mind having Alicia Leigh Willis back on daytime soaps. She was great as Sonny’s sister Courtney on GH.

Alicia was briefly on DAYS as a Chloe recast, but her scenes were removed when Nadia recovered before they went to air. So maybe she’s in the back pocket of the DAYS system.

I remember when Alicia was cast as a temp Chloe and was actually looking forward to her scenes and was sorry they got cut!

How about Brianna Brown, Andrea Bogart, Jen Lilley, or Brittany Underwood.

oh please, not Jen Lilley. That girl wore more makeup than Bozo the Clown and she’s a lousy actress.

She’s better than Kirsten Storms.

I don’t think so at all.

Brianna Brown….. geez! she was a big part of the Patrick/Robin storyline! She was the best bad girl… i’ve seen in years…. she’d bring some acting credibility to DAYS. good choice.

I forgot about her… I wonder if she’s still going to be on “devious maids”.

Jen Lilley would be a beautiful casting decision. She’d really fit in right with the cast.

Crystal Chappelle.

That’s hysterical.

Okay- not sure if I should use real math or soap math here- but would it possible she could be the secret love child of Hope Brady and John Black, when they were Princess Gina and the Pawn? I can still how Stefano could erase all memory of that from their minds- gave the child to some poor but deserving servant who could not have her own child to raise.

this could reinvigorate the character of Hope… “move” her… to live without Bo….

A plausible reason for us fans to see her without that one man in her life…

Hope it’s someone worth watching!

If they were willing to give up on the age thing, I would love to see Beth Chamberlin on my screen again. GH would be my first choice, but DAYS is my number two soap so why not? Also please make her a Horton!

I remember the horrible rumour of Beth being a recast for Ashley Abbott on Y&R. I don’t know if Beth would want to return to Daytime, though. I’d rather see her on Y&R as a recast for Nikki’s sister.

I agree about Beth Chamberlain!

How about the beautiful Jessica Leccia 🙂

Jen Lilley, Erin Torpey, Eden Reigel, I could think of a lot of actresses I’d like to see return to daytime

Jen Lilley would be cute. Eden would be a no-no. She should go into primetime. Erin would be alright, but isn’t she in NYC?

If she was a little older, I would sugest a sarah Brown type, perhaps a Terri Conn.

Terri would not do it. She and her husband revealed they won’t be moving to LA when OLTL was cancelled.

Mmm husband ? She is not really married! Not to Austin anyway. Austin would go back to Days! his children live in California. I don’t think days would go for Terri Conn.

Ummm Terri and Austin are married and live in NYC. Where have you been?

Scott! Lol if you only knew the truth.

LOL It’s you who doesn’t seem to. Creditable sources would not post something if it were not true. You’re just a hater who seems to enjoy nothing more than to ruin somebody’s reputation and hate on their happiness, due to your sad and close-minded reality.

I’d say Sarah Brown, but I want her back as Madison James. And then there’s Tamara Braun/Natalia Livingston, who should both return as Ava/Taylor retrospectively.

Hmmm… this casting is proving to be tough. Maybe Marie Wilson (ex-Meg, ATWT) or Marnie Schulenburg (ex-Alison, ATWT) could both fit this role perfectly. Either them or a non-Daytime legend.

They still need to hire Maura West as Rebecca Jonas, Daniel’s former wife. That pairing AND hire would definitely be a great gain for DAYS.

YES, Bring back NL’s Taylor with EJ’s baby only she’s Married to someone else That would be some story and Tb as Ava now that would be GREAT.. wishful thinking,I know!!!!!!

Natalia was supreme as Taylor. Why they recast the character is beyond my mind. She was an asset to the series. I loved her chemistry with Brady, too!

And Tamara’s edge of Ava would be amazing on the series now as an ally to Kristen DiMera.

I really looking forward to this role coming back into Days. I wish we were seeing Marlena doing more of it. Lets face it there are plenty of Salemites who need guidance and someone level headed to talk too! LOL
I have my fingers crossed that it wil be Rafes ex fiancee Emily!!! Seriously Rafe needs to get out of our Ejami lovestory and family and find himself a NEW GIRL and start a family all of his own!
Emily would be a great edition for many reasons…. she could open up Rafes mysterious past to us, give us more insight into him, give him a storyline of his own and open up and reveal Emily/Rafes love story. I still think Emily was pregnant wth his child at the time of her “supposed” death too. Something Arianna eluded to once. I think Emily is the love of Rafes life and that is why he has never been able to open up to anyone (even Sami) about her. Emily as a therapist would be a much better fit for Rafe, his character, his career, his morals, values and principals.
Rafe and Sami have been a mismatch from day 1. All Sami has done since marrying Rafe is continued on her merry way with all her lies, tricks, plans and schemes. Instead of Rafe pulling her up what has he done? Rafe has just gone along with it all and aided and abetted her crimes. Covered it all up. Rafe has compromised himself and all he holds dear to be with Sami. Sami has rubbed off on Rafe not the vice a versa. Time for Rafe to count his loses and move on I say!
After 7 years I truly believe it has to be Ejami time. They have the family history, they have that undeniable and unquenchable chemistry and spark, and they have the two kids together. Ejami get each other because they are two of a kind,. Sami needs to give it up. Stop thinking of her family and follow her heart and not her head. Never has a truer line been spoken to Sami than the one EJ said to her in October. EJ was straight shooting to why Sami has chosen the men that she had in her life “because it was EASIER, because it was SAFER, because it was EXPECTED.” That is it in a nutshell. Even recently Sami said to her grandmother “Do I need to have my head examined? Everybody in my family hates EJ.” But Carolines wise reply was “The heart wants what the heart wants.” So come on Sami girl let it all go. EJ is the one man who likes the heat and loves you for who you are and doesn’t want you to change a bit. Oh Ejami together creates so much more drama, excitement and fun. Can’t wait. Go Ejami and Ejamily!

Uhm, it says Physical Therapist, not Therapist. Which brings to question, who is going to be paralyzed? I really wish it would be an older character because Beth Chamberlin deserves a role somewhere.

I was thinking the same thing when I read the article- why does Salem need a physical therapist- so we now know near May sweeps someone will either have a stroke- be in a car accident or shot or perhaps the ever popular Days ploy- bomb /explosion.

Why does this character have to be white? There are enough white actresses that get roles from hollywood. How the heck can there be more racial minority opportunities when these hollywood casting people specify that the race of the character must be white? Is it essential that this char be white? Based on the description of the char the answer would be no. It’s not like they’re recasting a previous white char. They’re not casting for a member of the white core families. This role should be open to actresses of color. people of color are given very little opportunities from hollywood. hollywood loves to proclaim its “liberal” and yet majority of storylines must be told from a white char’s perspective bec hollywood expects that white chars are the “norm” and “ideal” and that hollywood’s mantra is all the world is a stage and yet a white char has to be at the center of that stage for practically every kind of narrative.
hollywood needs to clear the center stage for new perspectives from people of color. Must she be white bec she’s obviously going to get be “revealed” to be beautiful? That’s a yes for hollywood bec they’re abt shaping the societal definitions of beauty. Why do you think women of color like halle berry and beyonce and jennifer lopez get named most beautiful by hollywood? Bec their physical appearance resembles the white beauty standards of hollywood and fashion and the mainstream media. halle is light skinned and part white and obviously got a nose job to make her nose appear more aquiline. beyonce is very light skinned and has more anglo features and often wears blonde weaves and wigs. same with jennifer lopez. hollywood would never name a dark skinned beauty like viola davis who does not have anglo feautures and weras her hair natural bec she does not fit the mold of what hollywood has brainwashed people into thinking of what’s beautiful. it’s abt controlling the culture. If this soap role was ever cast w/ a racial minority actress then she would be of the halle and beyonce and jennifer lopez mold.

bc are you the spokesperson for the ACLU why does everything have to be about the color of one’s skin.

I hope they cast emmy winner Susan Haskell

Too old.

Omg Please Briana Brown

She’s on Devious Maids so that is not happening. Plus, was not a fan of hers on GH.

Since she is only recurring on Y&R maybe they could snag Marcy Rylan for a contract role.

Beth Chamberlain is a great choice!

Blake Lively!

I would perfer either Kent Masters-King, Renee Goldsberry or Daphnee Duplaix, wonderful actresses who would bring some excitement to the rather boring DOOL. Dr. Cameron could use some loving as well.

Natalia Livingston,Natalia Livingston,Natalia Livingston Enough said!!! She was a beautiful Taylor, and really softened EJ..I would love to see that again (and I do on You tube) .. Bring Natalia back as Anyone..

His not really married to Terri. Trust me. He would go back to days. The thing is if days has not showed any new interest in Austin . They will never even consider Terri. Conflicts of interest. And for what a faked marriage! Austin !! He is divorce yes married no engaged: YES Terri is divorced but not married.

i think it should be Maura West who played Carly on As The World Turns…shes BRILLIANT

Wow fyi I happened to personally know Austin. And I do know the truth! Unlike you well duh ! I guess the jokes on you. Then! if you that easily fooled. Terri has never spoken for Austin (truth) And yes Austin has said if Dool called he would happily returned (truth). As for hate there were none in my comments. But plenty in yours.

Scott or what ever your name is I won’t call sod or any soap magazine a creditable source let’s not forget the cover story that soap opera digest ran a while back or the countless( of fake cover stories on days sl stories on ejam , lumi) that said Terri was going to the young and restless (that’s flimed in Los angels/so there goes your claim that she will never move ). And she was asked to audition for. There’s even video of Terri saying this yet. When tptb at the young and restless were asked they said Terri was never on their radar. She was never considered for any role. You said I am a hater yet YOU were the one that was quick to point that she would never move! She is always auditioning Texas, Los angels. Texas is not in new York and Los angels is in cali.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Officially Confirms Ryan Quan Returning as Co-Head Writer Beginning in July

Published

There is definitely a shake-up going down at the writing team at Peacock’s Days of Our Lives. Now, the long-running soap opera has confirmed, what has been previously reported, that current General Hospital breakdown writer, Ryan Quan is heading back to his old stomping grounds in Salem. This time as the series co-head writer.

The appointment of Quan comes with the official news that current co-head writer, Paula Cwikly, who was previously rumored to be departing the series, is not. She is staying with the soap opera and transitioning to a consultant role with the show. Now, Quan will join current co-head writer, Jeanne Marie Ford to steer the ship for the characters on the canvas.

On Wednesday, TV Insider, reported the official confirmation and that Quan will return to DAYS next month in July. In a statement to the outlet, executive producer, Ken Corday expressed, ‘We are lucky to have Ryan back in the fold. There are very few people who have such a deep knowledge and understanding of our show’s history. Stay tuned!”

THE FUTURE OF DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Since Days of our Lives unusual production schedule tapes ten-months ahead of air, the new creative team’s vision led by Quan and Jeanne Marie Ford are not expected to stream on Peacock until mid-2027.

Days of Our Lives is currently renewed through its 63rd season. The former NBC soap opera which transitioned to Peacock in September of 2022, celebrate its 60th anniversary in November of 2025.

The writing regime change comes after NBCUniversal Media Chairman Matt Strauss revealed that Peacock is expected to turn a profit for the first time in the current quarter, punctuating their investment with the enduring soap opera on its platform.

As for Quan, his knowledge of Salem is tremendous. Ryan joined Days of Our Lives as a writer’s assistant in 2007 after some time over at Passions. He then spent two decades and held every position on the writing team where he previously served as co-head writer from 2016-17 alongside Dena Higley.

Later, when Ron Carlivati took over as head writer for 7 years in 2017, Quan became his right-hand man and main story consultant for his deep knowledge of the history and the legacy of the show. After Carlivati exited the show in 2024, General Hospital hired Quan in 2025.

So, what do you think about DAYS making it official with Ryan Quan as the new co-head writer of the series alongside Jeanne Marie Ford. What do you think about the fact we won’t see the changes on-screen till 2027? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

Daytime Drama Casting Directors Talk Four of the Most Challenging and Important Recasts of Their Careers

Published

on

By

Daytime soap opera casting directors: Greg Salmon (The Young and the Restless) Marnie Saitta (Days of Our Lives), Christy Dooley (The Bold and the Beautiful) and Kim Coleman (Beyond the Gates) discussed the process of casting for a daytime drama series from contract players to under-fives along and their expectations for auditioning, plus behind the scenes casting tales at their recent panel from the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.

The entertainment industry event helps actors receive inside intel from leading casting professionals and took place just over a week ago at the Meryl Streep Center for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles.

Moderated by noted journalist Jim Halterman, one of the more intriguing moments of the panel discussion occurred when the subject turned to the challenges of a recast on a soap opera and replacing a popular actor with another in a very key role. Each of the four casting directors were able to put a spotlight on such an occurrence and all were leading men on their respective soaps.

Photo: SAGAFRAFoundation

For Marnie Saitta at Days of Our Lives, she was tasked with finding the new EJ DiMera. James Scott had become amazingly popular in the role from 2006-2014. Then, enter Dan Feuerriegel, who had the right stuff for DAYS to finally pull the trigger and cast the new EJ. The character returned on-screen in 2021 after 7 years.

RECASTING EJ DIMERA

“I do know now how to best approach a recast, like I’m casting a new character,” explains Marnie. “I feel like the actor just has to come in and make it their own. You can’t even try, looks-wise, to be quite honest. Obviously, EJ DiMera is kind of a focal point (of DAYS) and Dan was such a champ. I swear to God, I think I brought him in maybe six times. I would bring him in for other characters, but I kept thinking he’s really good for EJ and it didn’t go. Then, I brought him for something else, same thing. I knew that the role of EJ was going to be really difficult to find, and it finally clicked. He took EJ in a different direction. He has a totally different vibe, but equally as effective.”

RECASTING ADAM NEWMAN

For Greg Salmon, he discussed the pivotal role of Y&R’s Adam Newman, who was previously by Tracker star, Justin Hartley and what he looked for to be able to find the right actor to be the next black sheep of the Newman clan.

“We had Justin Hartley playing the role of Adam Newman before he went to This Is Us, and now Mark Grossman has been playing him,” explained Salmon. “So that was a really tough role to recast. Before Justin, there were two other people (Chris Engen and Michael Muhney) who played the part. Adam Newman is central to the show. This is Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) son. So, it’s an incredibly important character to the show. But now, Mark Grossman’s been playing the role for several years now. He’s completely made the role his own.”

Photo: JPI

Salmon added the key attributes that Mark Grossman or someone like him brings into an audition for the role of that is being recast, “I really think it just comes down to the person’s energy and what they’re bringing to the character,” explained Greg. “You can’t think, ‘Well, I know Justin Hartley looks like this. And the guy before him looked like that,’ because then you’ll just get trapped. You’re not trying to find another Justin Harley. You’re trying to find another Adam Newman. I just remember Mark came in and I think he read with Eric Braeden, and he read with a few other people of the Newman family, and his energy was just off the charts. You know, this is how Adam should feel. Eventually, I think the audience really accepted him.”

RECASTING RIDGE FORRESTER

In a little-known casting story, The Bold and the Beautiful’s Christy Dooley shared how Mark Grossman almost became one of the Forresters! “He tested for us (at The Bold and the Beautiful). Mark came in and read for the role of Thomas Forrester and he was my choice for the role,” says Dooley. “The role wound up going to Matthew Atkinson, but then he came down to read for The Young and the Restless.”

Dooley was also tasked with one of the biggest soap recasts in history when Ronn Moss exited The Bold and the Beautiful in his signature role of Ridge Forrester which Moss played from 1987-2012. Eventually, Thorsten Kaye took over the role at the end of 2013.

Photo: JPI

“When Ronn Moss left the show, Brad Bell (executive producer and head writer, B&B) said, ‘I can’t recast him right now, he’s just too familiar.’ So he waited. The character was always talked about because he is one of the Forresters. Brad finally said, ‘We need to bring him back. We got to find somebody.’ Then to get Thorsten Kaye, who’s so different than Ronn, and he made it completely his own. He’s just amazing at it, so I think time helped (between bringing on a new Ridge.)”

RECASTING DR. TED RICHARDSON

For Beyond the Gates, Kim Coleman, she has a soap opera that is now building a new legacy only in its second season. However, in season one, Maurice Johnson became the first recast in series history when he was replaced as Dr. Ted Richardson with Keith D. Robinson and at a critical point in the storyline.

Coleman explained, “I think it was a transition and everyone was in agreement that it was the right thing to do. And then fortunately, we brought in an actor that the audience knew. They knew his face. He was great. Keith made it his own and there was not a lot of controversy and it wasn’t complicated. Keith D. Robinson is on the show now and everyone loves him. So, it was a very smooth transition.”

You can check out the full conversation with daytime casting directors, Greg Salmon, Marnie Saitta, Christy Dooley and Kim Coleman below.

Now let us know which of the four recasts noted do you think was the most successful? Were you surprised to learn Mark Grossman was a favorite of casting director Christy Dooley for Thomas Forrester before landing his role as Adan Newman? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
