You tell it, Deidre!  Billy Flynn has been making an impact as the Chad DiMera on NBC’s Days of our Lives! The young actor was just named On-Air On-Soaps Best Newcomer of 2014 Male for his performances on our year-end Best and Worst in Soaps 2014.

TV Guide’s Michael Logan also has singled Flynn out as a scene stealer in new piece that is online and in the publication this week bullet-pointing some interesting backstage moments from Flynn’s rise to to being one of the hottest talent additions in daytime.

The iconic Deidre Hall (Marlena, DAYS) had this to say about Chad and Flynn’s take on the character:  “Flynn has a ‘sexy sophistication that’s delicious.’ But even she’s torn: ‘Chad’s the kind of man you don’t want your daughter to date but are secretly glad when she does.”‘

So what do you think? Is Chad the kind of man that girls can’t wait to date?  Are you enjoying Flynn’s performance?  Comment below!

I took to Billy’s portrayal of Chad pretty much immediately. He was different because the Chad before had more of a pretty boy look and had soft, sweet edges in terms of portrayal, but I liked Billy’s darker take on Chad. And although he isn’t a stereotypical soap hottie, he is SEXY as all get out. It looks like he’s setting up all kinds of people for a fall – like it’s Chad’s revenge against Salem, acting like he’s a good guy but secretly about to pull the rug out from underneath a number of people. Can’t wait to see… Read more »

@ Mike. I too, definitely am digging Billy Flynn as the new-Chad. I like him a lot, and he’s got great potential in defining himself in this darker side to Chad. Successful recast, indeed.

Billy is doing a great job as Chad. Love watching him. Sometimes you can see a twinkle in his eye and all you can do is sit back and wait to see what he is going to say or do next.

As a new Days viewer, Billy is the only Chad I’ve ever seen. I think he’s doing a great job playing the layers of the character. I definitely do not trust Chad.

Billy Flynn is doing a great job filling the void that was left by James Scott.

He reminds me of a young Nicolas Cage. He commands my attention whenever he is on the screen unlike the whole JJ and Paige story.

Days is in such trouble. They now are using long time vets to boost the widespread poor casting and writing attempts. Putting character of Chad in EJ-esqe suits.

New actors with little acting experience.. Billy Flynn is not ready for a close-up. Deidre is way off the market. Less than a year ago – he was a financial analyst with WB

Libby…I TOTALLY AGREE with you!!!!! And…it seems to me that it’s getting W-O-R-S-E!!!!! Bottom Line Here: Here’s hoping that DOOL pulls it all together…FAST!!!!!

He’s doing fine as Chad, but now that EJ’s gone, DAYS needs to bring back Peter Blake-DiMera!!!!!!

DAYS….secure Robb Derringer as Peter Blake-DiMera. He just wrapped up on GH as Agent Sloane. Robb would make an excellent Peter Blake.

I like him a lot. He is really capable of portraying the darker side of Chad. Casey Deidrick (IMO) didn’t have that edge to him…there was always a hesitation in his acting out Chad’s darker qualities. There was too much frat boy in his Chad.

Why would a parent secretly be glad daughter is dating Chad? Love Deidre but don’t get train of thought. The only reason I could see for being glad is his financial status. But he is so crooked that it negates his desirability as a beau for daughter. Need clarification please Deidre!

Days Of Our Lives

Days of our Lives Kicks-Off Possession Storyline Revisted with ‘Doug’ Twist Cliffhanger, Followed by Fall Preview

Did the ‘Devil’ make them do it? Doug Williams  (Bill Hayes) is Satan? In what can only be described as major surprise twist on NBC’s Days of our Lives, for weeks, fans have thought they were about to embark on another dementia or Alzheimer’s storyline on the soaps with another beloved character.

However, Days head writer, Ron Carlivati ,and his writing team came up with a way to make it seem like this may be Doug’s fate only to use the long-running character as the impetus to bring the classic possession storyline back on the air some 25 years later.

It all goes down after Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) calls Marlena (Deidre Hall) to ask him to see Doug, after his MRI and other tests proved inconclusive for dementia, etc, to see if Dr. Evans can assess him.  The phone call to Marlena happened after John (Drake Hogestyn) was discussing the past, since Johnny (Carson Boatman) is ramping up to a shoot a movie on Sami’s life, that will include the time that Sami walked in on John and Marlena having sex, which caused Sami to act out for years and years.

However, and this is key, John tells Marlena that moment in time also left her alone and vulnerable to the darkest time in her life – alluding to when she became possessed by the devil – and Marlena was clearly having difficulty admitting that or going down that road of remembrance, when the phone call from Kayla saved her from digging deeper into the past.  Well now, John and Marlena may never have that conversation as she is primed to once again become possessed.

Meanwhile, Johnny is reading Will’s script for the Sami movie, and is shocked to read in it that Marlena was once possessed by the devil, as John takes out a dusty box with his Father John collar, a bible, and a news clipping of Marlena being possessed.  John is feeling that this movie will bring bad things on to all those he loves, especially Doc, and he looks to be right!

Now at her office with Doug, he admits he knows something is wrong.  He acts out and does strange things and does not know why.  Marlena brings up why Doug locked Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) in a freezer by accident. Doug gets adamant saying: “That was no accident. I locked that bitch in there on purpose.”  Marlena is shocked at his word and tone.  Then as Doug laughs, he says, “I’m not Doug.”  Next thing you know, the lowered voice of Satan comes out of Doug’s mouth and he tells Doc, “It’s been over 25 years Marlena. But did you really think I wouldn’t come back for you?” End of episode.  Great cliffhanger!

Now, check out the fall preview released following the airing of Friday’s episode by NBC below, which teases more demonic moments on Days. Then let us know in the comment section, what you thought of the ‘Doug’ twist as the possession storyline begins?

Plus, make sure to cast your vote in ‘Michael’s Poll’ of the week on the revisiting of this classic tale now in 2021 below the preview.
