In virtual ceremonies held on Sunday, the Writers Guild of America (WGA East and WGA West) handed out their annual awards in the fields of motion picture, television, news, on-air promos, and radio via a livestream.

The Daytime Drama category went to head writer Ron Carlivati and the Days of our Lives writing team consisting of: Lorraine Broderick, Joanna Cohen, Carolyn Culliton, Richard Culliton, Rick Draughon, David Kreizman, Rebecca McCarty, Ryan Quan, Dave Ryan, Katherine D. Schock, and Elizabeth Snyder.

DAYS beat out the only other nominee in the category; the writing team from General Hospital.  For DAYS head writer, Ron Carlivati, this marks his third career WGA win; having won twice for GH and now his first time for the long-running NBC soap opera.

The DAYS writing team took the prize for episodes back in January of 2020, which showed the audience what really happened the night of the time jump car crash that took the life of Adrienne Kiriakis (Judi Evans), and how it forever changed many of the lives of the characters of Salem.

Congratulations to the writing team at Days of Our Lives, even though I would have given it to General Hospital. Seems like Ron Carlivati is a shoe-in win for the WGAs.

He hasn’t won the last couple years. This is his first win for DAYS. He won for GH previously. I do think GH is better now, but considering what DAYS submitted I understand.

What was submitted?

It’s mentioned in the article, but it submitted the episode of the time jumó accident that took the life of Adrienne and changed many lives forever. DAYS was definitely tops during that time.

Did ReRon hire Karl Rove to rig the nomination or what??

If he’s the best soap writer, I’m the first chair harp player in Heaven’s symphony orchestra!

Turned on the show and thought it was one of my worst nightmares, than realized it had to be one of THEIR worst. OMG, April Fool’s! Turned it off, it was so rediculas, and such a waste.

Daytime Emmys Land Two-Year Deal At CBS; NATAS Reveals This Year’s Broadcast Set For June 25th

Some great news for daytime fans!  Following a deal announced today between National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and CBS, the network now has a two-year deal to broadcast the Daytime Emmy Awards.

CBS will present this year’s 48th Annual Daytime Emm Awards, on Friday, June 25 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network and it will stream live and on demand on Paramount+.   This will mark the 15th time CBS has broadcast the Daytime Emmy Awards, more than any other network. CBS also aired last year’s Daytime Emmys amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, this is the first time since 2008 that one network will broadcast both the Daytime and Primetime Emmy awards in the same year. CBS last hosted both specials in 2005.

The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in daytime television programming since 1974.  The awards are presented to programs broadcast between 2:00 AM and 6:00PM, as well as all forms of children’s television programming and certain categories of streaming and syndicated content.

NATAS also revealed today that this year’s Daytime Emmys are the most competitive ever, with more than 3,100 submissions featuring content that originally premiered in calendar-year 2020, judged by a pool of peer professionals from across the television industry.

The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be produced by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI), which produced Daytime Emmy Award ceremonies on The CW in 2009 and on CBS in 2010, 2011 and 2020. Adam Sharp and Steve Ulrich are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer and director from ATI.

So excited about the Daytime Emmys will return to network TV for two more years guaranteed, and that we have a date for this year’s presentation this summer? Comment below.
