Daytime Emmys Land Two-Year Deal At CBS; NATAS Reveals This Year’s Broadcast Set For June 25th

Photo: NATAS

Some great news for daytime fans!  Following a deal announced today between National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and CBS, the network now has a two-year deal to broadcast the Daytime Emmy Awards.

CBS will present this year’s 48th Annual Daytime Emm Awards, on Friday, June 25 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network and it will stream live and on demand on Paramount+.   This will mark the 15th time CBS has broadcast the Daytime Emmy Awards, more than any other network. CBS also aired last year’s Daytime Emmys amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, this is the first time since 2008 that one network will broadcast both the Daytime and Primetime Emmy awards in the same year. CBS last hosted both specials in 2005.

The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in daytime television programming since 1974.  The awards are presented to programs broadcast between 2:00 AM and 6:00PM, as well as all forms of children’s television programming and certain categories of streaming and syndicated content.

NATAS also revealed today that this year’s Daytime Emmys are the most competitive ever, with more than 3,100 submissions featuring content that originally premiered in calendar-year 2020, judged by a pool of peer professionals from across the television industry.

The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be produced by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI), which produced Daytime Emmy Award ceremonies on The CW in 2009 and on CBS in 2010, 2011 and 2020. Adam Sharp and Steve Ulrich are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer and director from ATI.

So excited about the Daytime Emmys will return to network TV for two more years guaranteed, and that we have a date for this year’s presentation this summer? Comment below.

Oh wow!?
Cbs cares about daytime?
Maybe it can prove it by hiring real intelligent competent complex minded writers to helm its daytime dramas. Young and restless is ‘ written’ by an insomnia curer and Bold and beautiful is written by a first grader
What an embaressment these two shows have become
Ditch the talk too another ‘ winner’

Or buy the rights to Guiding Light and revive it.

Yes and don’t film it in NJ outside–give them a studio. I loved the soap Capitol in the early 80s–would love to see that one revived.

So happy to see them back on CBS. Now CBS bring back some of our soaps or a new soap. Would love to see a revival or Dark Shadows on daytime.

REPORT: Sharon Osbourne Leaves ‘The Talk’ with up to $10 Million Dollar Payout

Last Friday, CBS made the exit of Sharon Osbourne from The Talk official.  Now according to a report in Page Six of the New York Post, it appears that Osbourne and her lawyers orchestrated a substantial deal for her following and amid accusations of racist behavior.

Sources told Page Six that Sharon is to receive a $5-10 million dollar payout to leave the show, and that she was able to spin the statement (released to the press last week) that it was her decision to exit the talk show series that she had been a part of it since its premiere. 11 years ago.

Another source revealed that as part of her walking away from the show, Osbourne was able to have the ability to speak freely.  That source shared that Sharon, “still wants to give her side of the story. She has been on that show for 11 years and knows all the secrets.”

Osbourne had been at the epicenter of a firestorm that kept getting fuel added to it, after defending remarks made by her friend, Piers Morgan over the Meghan Markle interview with Oprah Winfrey, on the March 10th episode of The Talk.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Osbourne addressed some of her alleged racist remarks, including one made to former ‘Talk’ co-host, Julie Chen.  When the outlet asked if she had ever called Chen a wonton, Sharon retaliated: ‘It’s all crap. It’s all crap. I don’t want to go there with her. She makes her living out of outing people. So, it’s like come on.  It’s got no real foundation. Allegations of calling a Chinese lady a wonton, it’s like – is that all you’ve got? It’s like really?’

So, what do you think of Osbourne’s potential pay day? Comment below.
