Days Of Our Lives
Dick Van Dyke Behind The Scenes at Days of our Lives (Photos)
Television icon, Dick Van Dyke made his debut on Days of our Lives last week on the Friday, September 1st episode of the Peacock streaming soap opera.
Van Dyke is playing an apparent war veteran and mystery man, who has amnesia. On Monday’s, September 4th episode, viewers learned that the mystery man ‘s name is Joseph Bell, while John (Drake Hogestyn) discovers that Bell served in the same unit in the Korean War with his biological father. What more will be revealed?
Back in April of this year, Dick Van Dyke taped his guest appearance on the set of Days of our Lives. Dick’s casting came about due to his real-life friendship with gym buddy, Drake Hogestyn.
In-story, Dick has shared scenes with several enduring DAYS cast members including: Deidre Hall (Marlena), Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) and Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Doug and Julie).
Here are some behind the scenes snaps of Van Dyke’s visit to Salem below.

So, have you enjoyed Dick Van Dyke’s guest-star run on Days of our Lives? Let us know in the comment section below.
Delightful! Love the little dance scene
Really loved seeing Dick Van Dyke on days.
I watch as long as Dick Van Dyke is on. Otherwise, the show has become so raunchy, in many scenes as well as dialogue. I normally only watch occasionally, and only when the story is a good story and not just the raunch which has nothing to do with it and not needed.
I agree, it is over the top raunchy. I am over the show mostly, just like Paula, I pick and choose what I watch
I have to agree. And then add them going to Peacock…. I miss more than I watch
Same for me!
I agree
Dick van Dyke is an icon he makes u laugh he is a very nice person to be around. I was so excited to see him on my favorite show days since I was 5 years. I love him on the dick van dyke show. Thank you for all the laughs
He’s been wonderful! Always amusing.
Yes I did I enjoyed it immensely seeing him on the show
I love Dick Van Dyke: Mary Poppins, The Dick Van Dyke Show and now Days Of Our Lives. It is he has followed us through generations to entertain and not forget him. God Bless such a kind soul and comedian.
Omg I love Dick van Dyke I watch him on the Dick van Dyke show and diagnosis is murder I watch that every morning for hrs.love him.hes definitely a legend just like Angela lansbury.and Andy Griffith.
I am so happy to see Mr Van Dyke on Salem. What a hoot! I have been watching DAYS for over 50 hrs. and can’t wait each day to see what is going to happen next.
I really enjoyed Dick Van Dyke on days he still can act
I think it’s a shame that you took DOOL off local TV. After many years of long time senior fans it seems that was a dirty trick. We should have been able to watch it witout sticking us with a bill to watch it. Here’s one of my all time favorite Duck Van Dyke and couldn’t even watch. I never thought I couldn’t watch it since it came on many years a go unless I signed up to pay a monthly fee. Just a dirty trick.
Dick really adds warmth & light to his scenes. And his song & dance number with the Williams/Hayes is delightful!
Dick Van Dyke is always a welcome addition to any scene..Days sometimes drags out storylines and a fesh face is a great satisfier..I have my thoughts on where this goes and can’t wait to see the results. By the way, Victor’s funeral was a real letdown..I guess it was ONLY family? More of Salem should’ve had an appearance..he affected many lives..
I only watch this when he was on, never before, and not after he leaves. General hospital is my favorite. But Dick Van Dyke is amazing!
I have always been a huge fan and I still am of Susan Seaforth and Bill Hayes. I love this special beautiful couple and also individually. I have been.a big big fan of Julie and Doug. I miss Dr Horton and Mrs Horton(Grandmother) who played his wife for over30 years. I have been away for a few years.but myself as well as some other of my family members have been huge fans of Days. We love you.Marlena we love you too and some of the other longtime older Days cast. I have been a fan of Dick Van Dyke for a very long time. Dick I am so glad you are on such a great show as Days of Our Lives. You are doing a amazing job! You are such agreat actor!
I have watched Days from day one. Dick Van Dyke is refreshing addition. I understand the show is trying to attract a younger generation with some of its explicit sexual scenes. However, the majority of the viewers are the ones that have been watching it for years and are 60 years plus. The younger generation, who they are trying to appease with such scenes, do not sit down and watch soap operas anymore; they are too busy looking at all of their technology and phones. I really miss the traditional storyline of Days of our Lives.
Love Day’s of our Lives, always will. Really enjoyed all of the humor bits of Dick’s past roles in movies being included in his lines for this role . Amazing actor, amazing cast
I agree Dats has become very raunchy watching two men and two women getting it on and what Leo says about his lovers body parts. What in God’s name is allowing thus? Duck Van Dyke has brought a nice scene to date.
Writers your losing fans y the day. Shape up on your raunchyness!
Should it be more like Duck Dynasty?
I loved Dick Van Dyke on days. I have been a big fan of his for many years.
It has been such a blessing to see the most wonderful man who I have been blessed to watch since I was a child in the show I have been a loyal fan since I was in grammar school which was a very long time ago
Thank you all for including him in Day’s of Our Lives
He is an amazing actor. He’s almost 98 years old and knew his lines and won over many hearts I’m sure .
OMG… I was soo excited to see him on Days… I loved him since his show Dick van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore days… he was always so funny.. I just always loved him and I am amazed how well he has played his role on Days. Ageism not a factor. ❤️
Dick van Dyke is an amazing actor has been for very long time it was wonderful to see him on Days of our lives.
I enjoyed dick on the show…
I know this sounds crazy, but I’ve always felt that I was meant to meet Dick Van Dyke.
Yes he is a hoot
I love to watch Days, but I have had enough of the LGBT scenes. I am not homophobic, but I don’t need to watch it daily on a soap opera.
I have really enjoyed seeing him on Days. He is just a sweetheart and I hope that we will get to see more of him.
Love having Duck on the show. Hope he stays!!!!
Loved the scenes with Duck Van Dyke. We should all be that sharp at the age of 97!
I loved seeing dick van dyke on days of our lives…
Love it! What a true delight.
Having Dick Van Dyke on the show and portraying John’s real father is the best thing Days has ever done! Mr. Van Dyke is still handsome and a timelessly great actor. I have enjoyed this segment so much. What a treat and a joy!!

‘Days of our Lives’ Head Writers Give Fall 2026 Preview: Marlena and Stefano’s Chess Mystery, The Arrivals of Dante and Sydney, Romance Drama for Sarah and Others

As summer comes to a close with Labor Day weekend, the former Days of our Lives co-head writing duo of Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford have given their annual fall season preview in episodes taped some 10-11 months ago.
As previously reported this past July, Ryan Quan returned to Days of our Lives and is now co-head writing the show with Ford, while Cwikly is now a consultant. The new co-head writing teams stories will not be seen till late spring/early summer 2027.
So for now, the stories pick up from where we left off with Cwikly and Ford promising via TV Insider, “Fall in Salem is full of twists and turns and secrets and surprises. Dots connect in unexpected ways as seemingly unrelated threads converge.”

Photo: JPI
CHECKMATE?
In one of the top mystery’s, Marlena is still having troubling memories and she will have another one on the Monday, September 7 episode. Meanwhile, her daughter Belle (Martha Madison) has gotten very close to Chad DiMera (Conner Floyd) and as pictured here, the two smooch while in Italy searching for answers to the chess set that Stefano DiMera gifted th the late John Black and Marlena (Deidre Hall) that has some significance.
The head scribes share, “The (chess board) mystery and its fallout are central to the fall stories. Chad and Belle follow the clues to a discovery that changes both of their families, and Salem, forever. Marlena worries that their investigation/the chess set may be a Pandora’s box that has been opened. And she is right…”
Newcomers are also the order of the day for Cwikly and Ford, this fall. We have already seen the debut as Brandon Butler as Mason Whitfield, and next week you can add as previously reported Sydney Malakeh on the Thursday September 1o episode as Sydney DiMera, followed by the the Monday, September 14 arrival of Franco LoPresti as Dante Vitali.

Photo: Corday Productions
Paula and Jeanne Marie expressed on the incoming Dante, “The arrival of a stranger who will set the whole town on its ear. The character has several strong ties to the current canvas and impacts many storylines.” What will Dante be up to? We know Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) had mentioned in 2025 she got engaged to the man, but that was off-screen.
LOVE THE ONE YOU’RE WITH OR THE ONE YOU WANT?
In the romance department, the triangle between Brady/Sarah/Xander heats up with a very conflicted Sarah (Linsey Godfrey). The head writers reveal, “When Sarah faces attacks personally and professionally, Xander (Paul Telfer) and Brady (Eric Martsolf) work together to help and protect her. Sarah’s new love for Brady is challenged by her lingering love for Xander. Xander risks everything for Sarah.”
In addition look for, “Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) and Philip (John-Paul Lavoiser) to draw closer as he tries to save the family company and home.”
Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) will also be returning at some point this fall and she won’t be alone. Who might she bring with her? And from the looks of the Peacock promo for next week’s DAYS, someone is wearing Stefano’s ring around their finger, but who … and how does it all tie in this fall?
So, what do you think about some of the highlights coming up this fall on Days of our Lives per the series head writers? Does anything float your boat or pique your interest? If so, what? Let us know via the comment section. But first, check out the action next week on DAYS in the promo entitled “Bag of Tricks” below.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Confirms Sydney Malakeh’s Casting as Sydney DiMera

The Sydney mystery is solved! On Wednesday, September 2, Days of Our Lives revealed more details on the previous announcement that actress Sydney Malakeh was about to make her debut on the Peacock streaming soap opera on September 9.
However, now comes word via Deadline, that while previously unknown, Malakeh is taking on the role of Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) and EJ DiMera’s (Dan Feuerriegel), grown-up daughter, Sydney DiMera.
The last time anyone saw Sydney she was a pre-teen in the Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas that streamed on Peacock in 2021.
Now the aged-up version is set to have a major storyline, in particular with the news of Brandon Butler showing up in his new role as Mason Whitfield, and especially the other DAYS casting announcement today of Franco LoPresti as Dante Vitali, with whom we last knew about off-screen was engaged to Sydney’s mother, Sami.
Taking to her Instagram on September 2, Malakeh shared, “Been waiting a long time to share this one. For the past 10 months, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of playing Sydney DiMera on Days of Our Lives. I cannot wait for you all to finally meet her September 9th on Peacock! It takes a village. So grateful for mine.”
WILL HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF?
From the looks of it, perhaps Sydney will be obsessed with Dante, sort of like Sami was obsessed with Austin and tried to get him away from her sister, Carrie (Christie Clark). Might Days be about to do a retread modernized version and this time have Sami on the receiving end of manipulations from her daughter? Time will tell.
As previously reported, Alison Sweeney is not due back on-screen until most likely late spring of 2027 after she taped a series of episodes last month in July.
Those who know the dramatic history of Sydney DiMera recall that back in 2008, Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker), who was married to EJ at the time, had a miscarriage and lost their baby. To hold on to her marriage, she plotted to steal Sami’s newborn daughter and switch her with another baby named Grace who’s mother was teenager Mia McCormick (Taylor Spreitler).
A few years later, Grace died, and then Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) began to put two and two together. After one of the biggest bitch-slap showdowns on the soaps back in 2009, Nicole admitted what she did to Sami by stealing her biological child and Sami was eventually reunited with Sydney.
The question is, do you think Sydney DiMera is a bad girl or a good girl? Do you think she and Dante Vitali might have a thing going on? Could she be involved with Mason? Weigh-in via the comment section, and just for good measure, here’s ‘The Slap!’ from Sami delivered to Nicole below.
