It’s always fun to have video of actors watching back their work and key scenes on your favorite soap operas!  And yesterday, CBS.com posted this cute video ditty featuring the terrific trio of Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe), Greg Rikaart (Kevin), and Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea).

In the video, the actors sit down and watch back the build-up to Chloe and Chelsea’s catfight prior to the big fashion show! And as you will see, Elizabeth and Melissa are quite into their on-screen brawl, while Greg comments on Kevin’s entrance into the room and the fray!

Watch the video after the jump and let us know what was your favorite part?  Would you like to see more videos of actors commenting on their scenes? Will you miss Elizabeth when she departs Y&R?  Did you enjoy the catfight? Let us know!

I am done with this storyline…let’s move on. I did say Lauren was not pregnant…menopause. The writers must be delusional to think that we are so stupid to believe this pregnancy nonsense…she ‘s too old…let’s move on from this storyline too. I cannot seem to forgive Lauren for cheating. What can I say, even at this young age, I have higher morals than she.

I must agree with your comments. Someone needs to ask Lauren “Have you ever heard the term menopause?” Her being pregnant would be as ridiculous as the cheating story line. I could not believe that. “My sullen, wimpy son is in jail. I think I’ll hit the sheets with the bartender.” How is that going to help the situation? It just didn’t add up.

Exactly. Most mothers would be stressing out about their imprisoned child’s welfare. I cannot speak for myself, but I see my mother losing sleep over my niece’s skinned knee. Why would anyone be interested in a Lauren pregnancy ? C’mon writers. She is in her early fifties. She should not be worrying about a pregnancy. …has she ever heard of birth control? Women that age do not become pregnant by accident….Michael and Lauren are not teens whose hormones are galloping uncontrollably..lol. Gimme a break, writers.. I also find how Michael forgave her a bit hard to digest…I don’t know…I suppose… Read more »

Rachel and Ada on Another World both had late in life pregnancies much older than Lauren. Now…with Lauren…it just feels like grasping at straws for a story. She has two grown sons! Write for them!

Not only should the writers keep Lauren’s story lines AGE appropriate, they should have the costume department dress her accordingly and not as a teenager, that ship has sailed LONG LONG LONG ago.

I wasn’t so impressed with the catfight as I was with the scenes where both Chloe, Kevin and Chelsea spoke from their hearts– those are the moments that make up real life, the gut wrenching emotional drama of the soul that plays better on screen than any stage physical fight or unrealistic plot devices like buried treasure aka music box every could hope too. It was only a moment, but it reminded me of why I used to love this show so much.

ohh geez..
C’mon Y&R!
That was shouting match, not a catfight,,
Two shoves is not a brawl nor a catfight..
Where was the hair pulling, the kicking, a roll on the floor (that’s a brawl/catfight..

Y&R could not write drama if their life depended on it..
((a shouting match and a push is just that and nothing more)

Amen.

It ain’t a catfight until somebody’s hair gets pulled and the scratching starts.

Seriously…what type of girls do “cat fights”? That is so trashy and ghetto and Jerry Springer and very embarrassing to even watch. Its not entertaining in any way. If you are missing several teeth and live in a trailer park and your boyfriend is also your third cousin and the girl you are fighting is your fourth cousin…okay. When Krystle and Alexis did it on Dynasty at least they were well dressed, but it still made them look like utter morons.

I agree completely. Why the girl cat fight. It made them look like trailer-trash. and please tell me what happened to Chloe’s eye-brows? They go up in a point and she looks stupid. Honestly I think if this was done by the makeup artist, they need to tone it down unless there after the crazy look! Can the writers calm Lily down with her hate issues. The only thing more sickening than her hate episodes is her & Cane in bed all the time. And while we’re at it please get rid of Summer and give us back Adam Michael… Read more »

Young and the restless would be ok if they just went back to the original music, people need to get on board with this, it added to the scenes making them seem more dramatic. The background music they use now is very cheesy and more suited to a prime time show!

Tyler and Abby, for sure…not only does he get on my nerves, he also has a giant head and a completely round face…..Abby is too Amazonian and klutzy. Don’t even get me started on Caine and Lily….what does this couple do for fun?….the new Billy is actually the original, but you’re right…I liked Billy Miller much better also. Victoria is a s—–t who calls the kettle black and who will soon become her mother’s daughter looking down her weird nose at everyone. You know what I mean? I have really enjoyed seeing Rick(JR) and Chelsea(Annie) together. They were wonderful together in AMC. It was also great seeing Jill Larson. I am still missing my AMC. Thank you , TPTB, for making me smile.
I will miss Chloe because Chelsea and Chloe work well together. I thought the whole fashion show was fun to watch.

I agree, Fran,
Chloe’s eyebrows are odd.
And her lipstick waaay too red, actually, too.
I think the tension building between Chloe
and Chelsea and the blow-up at the fashion
show has to be related to Chloe’s upcoming
exit from the soap.
I also agree about Lily…she needs to chill!

In addition, look for new cast member Tanner Novlan to make his debut as Steffy’s new love interest, Dr, John “Finn” Finnegan on Thursday’s July 23rd installment.

CBS also revealed today the weeklong line-up of episodes and what to expect as viewers are pulled back into the story.  Check it out below:

Monday, July 20, catch up on the latest drama surrounding the Forrester family. Katie (Heather Tom) fills in Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) on how Quinn (Rena Sofer) sabotaged Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Ridge’s (Thorsten Kaye) reunion party. Then, Zoe (Kiara Barnes) and Carter discuss her whirlwind romance with Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), how he was exposed for his manipulations and lies at their wedding, and how Hope (Annika Noelle) and Liam (Scott Clifton) were able to overcome everything and reunite. Finally, Zoe and Carter learn about Sally’s (Courtney Hope) illness and what Wyatt (Darin Brooks) and Flo (Katrina Bowden) did when they found out.

Tuesday, July 21, Wyatt walks into the beach house and is dismayed by what he sees. Meanwhile, Bill (Don Diamont) tells Katie he will accept any consequence from his actions, except losing Katie and their family. Also, Sally and Dr. Escobar (Monica Ruiz) haul the unconscious Flo to Sally’s apartment where they tie her to the radiator. When Flo realizes she has been kidnapped, she is appalled by Sally’s actions. This episode was filmed before the pandemic shut down production.

Wednesday, July 22, Dr. Escobar and Flo are shocked by Sally’s pregnancy plan and plead with her not to proceed. Also, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) heads out on her motorcycle for some quality “me” time and is involved in an accident. This episode was filmed before the pandemic shut down production.

Thursday, July 23, Bill is shocked when he realizes he hit Steffy with his car while she was out riding her motorcycle. He frantically calls 9-1-1, and Steffy is rushed to the ER. Also, Flo prays her secret message gets through to Wyatt, and as Sally starts seducing Wyatt, he finally sees the message from Flo. Also, Tanner Novlan joins the cast as Steffy’s doctor, John “Finn” Finnegan.

Friday, July 24, Wyatt demands Sally tell him where Flo is and begins to search for her. Meanwhile, Bill is with Steffy in her hospital room, guilt-ridden and apologetic. He calls Ridge to let him know Steffy was in an accident. Brooke and Ridge rush to the hospital, fighting back emotions when they see her.

Soap Smarts: How Daytime Dramas Are Using Ingenuity To Get Back Into Production During COVID-19

Daytime dramas seldom get the credit they deserve, and now they should be getting further credit for being the first back into production as the coronavirus pandemic continues to rage on, and trying to implement new ways to keep their trademarks love scenes, intimate moments and two-person scenes somehow looking in tact; even though it will be far from how it was done in the past.

In the story from the Associated Press The Bold and the Beautiful EP, and head writer, Brad Bell – who’s soap was the first one back into the studio – commented on how the show is utilizing mannequins, or real-life significant others to help pull off close contact love scenes and how it is rather groundbreaking. “We feel almost like television pioneers all these years later because we’re the first ones out, blazing new ways of producing the shows with the current safety standards, and we’re getting the job done. It’s very exciting.”

When B&B scripts written pre-coronavirus were reviewed in preparation for shooting during the pandemic now, originally all the cinches and smooches were cut. But Bell found a solution whereby a remote actor recites lines as their on-camera scene partner responds in a “low, intimate voice” and engages in “beautiful, yearning eye contact” with an off-camera doll.

As far as the soapy embrace or lip-lock, B&B cast member Katrina Bowden (Flo) has had her husband and musician Ben Jorgensen stand in for her on-screen love interest, Darin Brooks (Wyatt) since returning to taping new episodes.

Photo: JPI

Days of our Lives EP Ken Corday noted to AP:  The “learning curve” is steep. Before the pandemic, “we were producing eight, one-hour episodes a week. That’s basically 40 or 50 scenes a day.  That’s going to be basically impossible to reopen, so to speak, at that pace. We’re going to have to be more careful. So will there be five shows a week, or more? Yet to be determined.  It will certainly cost more.”

B&B and now Y&R which heads back into production next week, and the others soaps, will be using the company called Reel Health, which launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to serve the entertainment industry, and hires medically trained workers to monitor sets and enforce protocols developed by a company epidemiologist and in accordance with industry and government standards,

Alicia Rodis, a veteran intimacy coordinator who helped the actors guild develop guidelines for taping scenes of romance and simulated sex. shared: “Finding ways to put romance on the screen is inevitable and necessary.  At the end of the day, intimacy isn’t going anywhere. Physical intimacy is a part of the human experience. And we’re going to have to find a way to be able to continue to tell these stories, even in extraordinary circumstances.”

So, what do you think of how soaps are tackling taping episodes in the new normal to give their fans a sense of all that they love from their favorite daytime dramas during COVID-19? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
