GH Casting Two Female Roles: Is One A Recast For Sabrina?

Courtesy/ABC

General Hospital sent out casting notices for two female roles according to Soap Opera Uncensored, and one of them is fueling the possibility that the ABC soap opera may be recasting, or temporarily recasting, the role of Sabrina, currently played by Teresa Castillo, as the actress is slated to begin her maternity leave shortly.

The casting breakdown details: “Hispanic. 27-33. Beautiful, passionate, dynamic. Originally from Mexico, she has come to Port Charles to pursue a career in medicine. This is a major recurring role.. Please only submit actresses that are open to the possibility of a Contract Role as well.”   Now as GH viewers know, the one thing is that Sabrina is originally from Puerto Rico, not Mexico.   So take that as you will.

The other role is for the part of Noreen:  “Caucasian, mid 40s, a delicate beauty with strength and fire underneath her initial frail presence…CONTRACT ROLE”

So what do you think; is one a recast a Sabrina and the other a possible new love interest for Patrick (Jason Thompson)?  Or, could it be the much talked about Nina?  Who do you think should be considered for these roles?   Who would you like to see on GH that could fit the bill?  Weigh-in!

One can only hope. TeCa never worked in the part of Sabrina. The definition of what they want is the TeCa Anti-Sabrina. Her Sabrina is not dynamic or passionate. I would love to see someone in the role that would light a fire under JT that is simply missing in Patrina scenes.

Please higher “Lindsay Hartley”

Teresa Castillo is Spanish in real life. Most all Hispanic speakers roll their “R” ‘s.

Timmm
Guest
Timmm

I understand that BUT she only does that when she speaks to Carlos and none of her other dialogue is spoken in her native tongue.

FAS
Guest
FAS

So do Italians, roll their r’s that is. My nonna(grandma) rolls her r’s because she is from Italy and immigrated as an adult….hard to lose the accent. My parents and we, the children, do not roll our r’s…..it seems that only those of Hispanic heritage, wether they are born here or not, acquire that accent. Spaniards ( European) do not. Ms. Castillo’s heritage may be hispanic, but she is American. However, I think she only rolls the r when she says Carrrrrlos. Lol

FAS
Guest
FAS

I don’t think she is Spanish, ….I think she is Hispanic….there is a big difference between Spain, which is in Europe, and other countries that share a modicum of the language. Spanish = Spaniard= Castilian= European.
Hispanic means having a hint of Spanish heritage. Just because Hispanics speak the language does not make them Spanish.
French is spoken in Haiti…this does not make the people French.
French is also spoken in Quebec, …this does not make the people French…the same goes for So. Africa, US, Canada and all other English speaking countries…does not mean they are English.

I don’t think the show would recast Sabrina while Teresa Castillo is nearing maternity leave. However i’m wondering if the show will recast Sabrina while the actress is on maternity leave because it wouldn’t be the first time a soap did something like that.As for the character of Noreen i thinking that’ll eventually turn out to be Silas’s wife Nina that they are casting.

I have watched this show twice in 6 weeks once to see Donna Mills stunt casting and the other to watch the three Carly’s. If the actress who plays Sabrina is leaving I do not blame her with all the bashing of her and her character I would run to the nearest exit door. I only hope she stays off social media I would hate to be having a baby and putting myself thru this kind of misery!

Woah, I don’t feel bad for her at all. She isn’t going through anything worse than what other soap actors go through. I never saw anyone bash the actress personally. And there is nothing wrong with bashing a fictional person. Sabrina was an ill conceived, one dimensional character, badly written and badly acted and she was force fed to the audience.

Hey, Shay…are you reading this? And you call me clairvoyant? LOL. …. Your dream of never seeing Ms Castillo on GH may come true. Aahh, I know she has that whine in her voice, but it like the actress. She seems sweet. I wish her a safe delivery and a healthy newborn.

Indeed I am, FAS….but my criticisms were never simply aimed at the actress alone. I don’t know how far back you read my postings, but I have had issues with the poorly defined nature and juvenile aspects of the character and the Disney-esque storyline, too. As far as I was concerned, it was always a three-pronged problem…. and I tried mightily to make that understood. I know some TC fans thought it was a personal thing, but I just felt that “Sabrina” was a total disaster in every way possible..an epic fail. Hence,.I don’t know that simply changing the “face”… Read more »

I like Teresa, but that fact does not mean I like her acting. Perhaps in a different role…who knows. I do see Shay’s point. Patrick and Sabrina are not a good fit. I agree with Shay…..that the writers should not have given the role to such a passive actress. I think Sabrina isn’t able to fill Robin’s shoes. It is sad, but true. Most viewers compare these women. I am not saying it is fair, but subconsciously, many do that. Sabrina was introduced specifically to take Robin’s place. It is not working…she cannot seem to fulfill the viewer’s expectations….not her… Read more »

Just. Kill off the Sabrina character. No recast is needed. GH needs to work with Kimberly even in recurring and keep Robin and Patrick together. I am not interested in seeing Patrick move one. We don’t know for sure if the character the show is casting is a recast Sabrina but even if said it would be in poor taste to do it while Teresa is on maternity in a way it could be a smart move by the show.Sabrina will probably be off screen for a couple of months before the new actress starts airing. So it won’t be an immediate recast in that TC is playing Sabrina in one episode and the recast starts airing in the next one. Also maybe Teresa wants to focus on being a full time mother right now and… Read more »

Hope Teresa isn’t being recast as for a contract mid 40 s actress makes no sense unless they are casting a big name daytime actress like crystall Chappell or the actress from y&r r who played Phyllis . Yes Michele stafford for Nina and no to recasting Sabrina. Michael fairman made it look like this new charater in her mid 40’s could be a possible love interest for Patrick ?? Or am I just reading that wrong? If Patrick is being giving a totally new love interest. ? Doesn’t make any sense to me.

“Initial frail presence”…”strength and fire”… sounds a lot like Nina. I personally think Tamara Braun would be great in the role, but she just aired as Carly so that might be a bit weird. Timmm, Sabrina/Teresa’s native tongue is English. She was born in the US of A. We are not talking about the spoken language, but rather the accent. Teresa does not have the typical Hispanic accent ….I think she has worked at it and succeeded. The same can be said for Carlos. He assumes the accent as an affectation, only when it is convenient to him.

I do not care one way or another if she comes back, albeit I can appreciate the fans that have watched her grow up on GH wanting her back. I think it’s casting for Nina. Don’t believe she’s dead. Is TC’s contract expiring? If it is, maybe that’s the reason for a recast if she decided not to renew. TC’s a young actress, wife & soon to be a 1st time mom. Clearly, her life’s taking on much greater meaning than a gig on a soap. Speaking of “too many newbies” in the cast – what about that Australian guy with the bad haircut that came back with Maxie? Couldn’t Maxie just come back alone – independent – fired up and rejuvenated with a new outlook?!

I know – off topic – but that guy is wasting air time that could be used for the established actors/actresses in the cast.

I read that they’re not going to recast Sabrina. But I think the roll of the caucasian, mid 40’s roll is for a recast of Robin. I read that they were going to recast Robin and possibly Jason. I’m ready for them to bring Jason back but not as the old Jason. I’m still mad at him for leaving the show saying he wanted to spend more time with his family in Tennessee and less then 3 months later he’s on another soap. Screw the old Jason!!!

General Hospital

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nina Helps Sonny After Realizing He is Off His Meds

Wednesday’s episode of General Hospital, will no doubt lead to Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Nina (Cynthia Watros) becoming closer, because she was witness, went through, and helped the mobster get help while he was having a manic episode after being off his meds for bipolar disorder.

A disheveled Sonny was outside insulating the kids’ treehouse, didn’t sleep all night, is not eating, and tells Nina – who stayed the night at the Corinthos’ home on the couch – that he feels great.  Then, he tells Nina to stop telling him what to do and to stay out of his way.

Nina panics and calls Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) at the hospital worried that Sonny is off his meds, and she needs medical advice on what to do about it.  Britt tells Nina it’s important to get Sonny to a doctor and not argue with him, but to get him to acknowledge he is having a manic episode.

After the call, Nina asks Sonny not to leave and to explain bipolar disorder to her. He replies it’s like a nightmare but that’s not what’s happening now. Then, he grabs her wrists hard as she stands at the door, as he wants to leave, and Nina tells him, she is hurting her.  Sonny has a moment of realization and insists he does not hurt women. Sonny asks Nina if she is now afraid of him?  She tells him she isn’t. All of a sudden, Sonny feels exhausted.  He sits with Nina and starts to cry and admits he has been off his meds.  She gets him to agree that he needs to see Dr. Sullivan and get a refill.

Sonny and Nina arrive at GH, and Britt shows them to an examining room. Nina wants to make sure he’s OK, before she exits, but Sonny wants to make sure he did not injure her wrists. Nina says she is OK, but you could tell she is emotional from the entire encounter she went through with Sonny.

Maurice Benard took to Twitter within the last 24 hours stating about the storyline which is throwing Sonny’s love life in turmoil and working opposite both Laura Wright (Carly) and Cynthia Watros: “I go where ever it is best for the show and fortunately right now this story is doing well, even better than well, now you may not want to hear that. You already know I love Laura and Cynthia. I keep saying this is between history and change, I think after 20 years change is good.”

So, what did you think of the scenes between Nina and Sonny? Do you agree with us that Nina seeing Sonny having a manic episode will draw them closer together? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Helena, Jennifer Smith & The Ice Princess: What Did You Think of Luke Spencer’s Memorial?

Friday’s episode of General Hospital brought the highly-anticipated story around the apparent death of Port Charles iconic, Luke Spencer (Tony Geary), although many fans, and even some of the cast of the show, are not sold that Luke is “dead” dead.

During the show, characters spoke of some of the history of Luke in Port Charles, most especially Luke’s sister, Bobbie played by Jackie Zeman.  Throughout the years, Zeman is at her best when she is given material through the writing of the show to connect to the history of Luke and Bobbie.  She did so when Bobbie was remembering how Luke came to Port Charles to help her break up Scotty and Laura, in a discussion with her daughter, Carly (Laura Wright).

Photo: ABC

As everyone is gathering at the Haunted Star to pay their respects to Luke, Curtis (Donnell Turner) arrives to support Laura (Genie Francis), Felicia (Kristina Wagner) and Anna (Finola Hughes) arrive together, Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) and Ava (Maura West), as well as Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez  also show up. It is through Nikolas’ conversation with Laura that we learn why Luke’s sons, Ethan and Lucky, can’t make the funeral and, of course, we know why Luke’s daughter Lulu can’t make it because she is in a coma!

Victor (Charles Shaughnessy) shows up and snipes at everyone and then leaves.  Tracy (Jane Elliot), who has arranged the memorial, is with an urn supposedly filled with Luke’s ashes and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) finds her on the deck of the Haunted Star and talks her into giving her planned eulogy.

Courtesy/ABC

Meanwhile, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) finds his dad, Sonny (Maurice Benard) drinking at Charlie’s, and later Scott (Kin Shriner) and Robert (Tristan Rogers) stop in and heated words are exchanged between Sonny and Scott. Victor shows up and instead of Scott and Sonny pummeling each other, they get into a fight against Victor.

Courtesy/ABC

As Scott and Robert are about to be on their way to the Haunted Star, Scott stays behind because of his past with Luke.  Then, Sonny tried to patch things up with Carly before they head to the memorial.

Back on the yacht, Anna and Felicia find a note and a flash drive, after hearing a commotion on the yacht.  When the note says “play me”, none other than Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) addresses Luke’s friends and family from apparently the great beyond.  As Helena spews her venom against Luke, Laura has enough and pulls the plug on Helena’s video speech.  Tracy looks concerned, like she may want to hear whatever else Helena had to say.

Photo: ABC

Next, Tracy does her best in short order to eulogize Luke.  That is juxtaposed with Scott trashing Luke.  Later, by herself on the deck, Tracy spreads Luke’s ashes over the waters of Port Charles. Back on the pier, Scott relishes Luke being gone, and that he is still standing saying, “You lose you son of a bitch!” Just then Luke’s ashes blow in into his face.  When Bobbie arrives, and see Scott full of ashes, she asks what happened.  Scott says, “I caught the bouquet,” an obvious nod to the Luke and Laura wedding of the past, where Scott returned at their wedding and caught the wedding bouquet.

Courtesy/ABC

Back on the Haunted Star, Tracy then has a gift in hand for Laura, but she tells Tracy if that’s the Ice Princess she does not want anything to do with it, and tells Tracy to keep it.  Spencer sees this go down and his interest on the diamond is instantly piqued.

Back at Charlie’s bar, Victor has an ominous toast to Luke saying, “The good people of your fair city are in for a big surprise!”

At the Haunted Star, dressed in black with black veil, Jennifer Smith reveals herself to a shocked Laura.

So, what did you think of Luke’s memorial episode? Favorite parts of it? Least favorite? Share your thoughts in the comment section. But first, check out Helena’s videotaped speech and Tracy’s eulogy to Luke below.

(WATCH) GH’s Genie Francis Shares: “I Just Have a Hard Time Believing, In My Heart, That The Great Luke Spencer Died in an Accident”

Today’s Friday episode of General Hospital, is set to feature the funeral of the iconic Luke Spencer (Tony Geary).

While family and friends will gather on the Haunted Star to memorialize him, what been teased by the ABC daytime drama is it will also set a whole storyline in motion.

ABC7 entertainment guru, George Pennacchio, spoke to several of the GH cast, who are involved in the episode including: Luke Spencer’s long-time love, Laura played by Genie Francis.

Francis exclaimed on the whole story: “I just have a hard time believing, in my heart, that the great Luke Spencer died in an accident.  No one stays dead on a soap. I don’t know how many times I’ve been dead. Really!”

Genie added: “I feel like they’re setting the stage, really, for a wonderful comeback and I’m going to keep my fingers crossed for that.”

Luke’s longtime friend played by Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio) shared: “And has it actually happened? I mean, frankly, we have a little urn about this big that’s supposed to contain him and that’s it.”

And Luke’s sister, Bobbie, played by Jackie Zeman, also weighed-in if Luke is really a-goner: “Sometimes you get these little red herrings so, as you know, George, you know, you never really know.”

Watch Pennacchio chat with the GH stars below.

Now weigh-in, do you believe Luke is very much alive and well? Held captive, or “dead” dead? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
