Say what? Mario Santos Grey of All My Children is coming to Genoa City?   Well, not exactly, but longtime fan favorite Eva LaRue,who played Pine Valley’s Maria (from 1993-2011) is headed to The Young and the Restless in exciting casting news today.

On Y&R, Eva will play the mother of Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) and Lola (Sasha Calle) named Celeste Rosales.

According to EW.com who broke the casting news: Celeste “shares a complex relationship with her children”, Rey Rosales and Lola Rosales.”

LaRue will begin filming next week and will debut on the June 26th episode of the top-rated CBS Daytime drama series.

Currently, Eva is the host of CW’s Chicken Soup for the Soul’s Animal Tales.  LaRue is very familiar with being part of the CBS network family having played Natalia Boa Vista on primetime’s CSI: Miami.

So, what do you think of Eva LaRue joining Y&R? Comment below.

Isn’t Arturo part of the Rosales family? How come he’s not mentioned in this story?

Arturo has been written out of the show!

I thought they were decreasing the Rosales family so I don’t understand them bringing on the mother now Arturo is gone. Also ironic that Arturo was the first Rosales to arrive in GC and is the first gone.

Seeing this announced earlier today had me in shock, but a good kind of shock. I love that Eva LaRue is returning o daytime, in what I am perceiving to be a juicy role. My only gripe is that this is coming on the heels of Noemi Gonzalez and Jason Canela’s exits; surely, Celeste and Mia would be soap gold in scenes together, and it gives me hope that Arturo and Mia could return by the end of 2019. Let’s hope this plays out well, because, right now, I am finding what’s happening in Genoa City to be bland, boring and dull.

Yes! Having their mother arrive now with Arturo and Mia gone makes no sense.

Irregardless of that, I am still looking forward to her arrival, and am hopeful it’s ensuring the return of Arturo and Mia down the line.

Ditto!. At the very least getting Rosales mom means the fam is staying so heres hoping Mia gets her due!

Me too!
There was so much left in the Rey/ Mia/ Arturo story but they canned it and rushed the end just as it was heating up! Arturo and Mia were solid actors and a exciting change of scenery. Their return would make me very happy!

I do agree re-the story feeling rushed; you can tell Josh Griffith just fumbled (much like he does) and rushed their exits. Though, gives me even more hope they’re going to return.

Wow!!!! Shenwas great as Maria on AMC!!! Funny because i recently saw a you tube video qith Eca and Sydney Penny from their AMC days. Those years were magical

I know nothing of the Eva LaRue person.
but-
by her photo, she looks way too young to be Rey’s mother; unless she gave birth at the age of nine.
crazy stuff..

Maria is 52 and Jordy is 38. Fourteen is still young to give birth, but I guess being only a few years older than Sharon, I bet there will be a lot of battles for Rey’s affections. This should be fun. I also wonder how Mama Celeste ( isn’t there a pizza with that name?) will interact with Lola and her rich boyfriend? Kyle better forget about them living together.
I see Eva as being the proverbial monkey wrench.

LOL, Miss Violet…..GH’s Sam is only nine years younger than her father, Julian—-what about Gina’s Phyllis ( Y&R) is only six years older than Daniel, her firstborn ( and, so many more). It is what it is. We accept or go out of our minds.❤️

Celia
You are so right, and I do accept it, but don’t always have to like it, right? At least Eva will be more suitable for Jack, the guy that usually rocks the cradle.

Weird thing is that the actor who plays Rey also played Marcus Santos, Maria Santos’s (Eva La Rue) little brother on AMC. I think we have to give up the fidelity we pay to ages where soap operas are concerned. Suspension of disbelief and all that jazz.

Harry
It’s no big deal, but if I remember right,Jordi/Rey played a Dr.Castillo, who had come to town for Dr. Hayward, and wound up saving Kendall’s life. Did you see that SL, it was 2011? I had also seen him on G.L as Tony Santos, but no mention of him playing Maria’s brother or ever being on AMC before.

Violet. Thank you for the gentle correction. I was wrong. He was on AMC but played another character, not a member of the Santos family. Teach me not to believe everything I read on Wikipedia.

Some version of this report that I saw made note that Eva is only a few years older than Jordi.

Did you ever watch CSI:Miami, su? Eva was on that show for a loooong while. Check her out….❤️

The actor’s ages have nothing to do with the character’s age– if she is playing his mother, then she is the character’s mother– you people are way too literal about the age thing.

When one is old they are old..
All the botox, hair extensions, and facelifts still do not hide the fact that one is old.

Eric/Victor is one that wears his age- he has grey hair and wrinkles etc.. good for him.

So we got rid of two young members of this family to bring in another 50+ performer. SMH. It’s like they don’t want to interest new young viewers.

New young viewers are not the proper demographic. CBS/Y&R actually got this correct\,this time. The baby boomers & gen X are the target…retiring & home again to watch. I have had discussions with my own young nieces & nephews under, 30, they do not watch daytime soaps or have the viewing patience or connection or care. (yes, I’m certain there are some young viewers, absolutely)…no new viewers. With only 4 network soaps, it is smart to go after old soap viewers of not only Y&R but other defunct serials.

I totally agree!

Ok, so let me get this correct here: they sent away Arturo and Mia because the audience was not accepting them. So they send them away and bring another Rosales in that no one even knows??? So Eva La Rue may be a good actress and I am certain that she will be good on Y&R BUT why bring in another Rosales? It makes zero sense! Quite frankly if it weren’t for Kyle and Lola I wouldn’t give two flying Walenda Brothers about the Rosales family. I hope this is a short lived role. No shade on Ms. LaRue but what we don’t need is another useless character. We have Sharon with the Adam storyline and Chelsea returning. This is going to be fire. Then the “original” Phyllis is returning and Kevin is coming back. So why do we need Mama Rosales around? Will she be opening a new cupcake shop to feed the masses dessert after Lola stuffs their faces at Society? We already have a useless character in Jett Slade. I mean seriously, who the —- thought of bringing that character on to the show? The character name sounds like a porn producer not an R&B singer from the 90’s. Trust me I lived through the 90’s and no one was named Jett. SMH!!!! I love Y&R. I love the cast and I love what they are doing to bring the show back some shine BUT this adding of useless people makes me wish that a serial killer would stop by and knock off a few of the excess fat on this show. (play music from “Psycho” for added effect)

I don’t disagree. I do wish they’d rethink the firing of Arturo and Mia–they have grown on me (however, Rey has NOT grown on me).

Great news! I loved (loved!) Ms. LaRue as Maria on AMC, her run there marked by incredible acting, story, and production. I still recall her supposed death in that plane crash. Oh! Am hoping Mama Rosales has a little fire in her. A beautiful woman with a history may shake things up in Genoa City in ways the drama and audience could really enjoy.

Didn’t Erica call Maria “St. Maria of the Push Up Bra”? 🙂

LOL ^^^^^ sounds about right

Eva , after all these years… has to let go of the St. Maria.. WHERE THE BRA GIRL…

I am imagining two viral fully embodied WOMEN with determination. if they play off of MS PHYLIIS no holds barred against Eva NICE… meh ??? i’m certain that Eva Larue as an actress has raised the bar.

so… this is intriguing

this is neither here nor their…. ie: Peter Bergman in the romance department… was never better then when he was on All My Children.. w/Nina Cortlandt , Brooke , AND whomever . his family man .. well he never really had that till Y&R.. so he delivers.. kudos to PB for keeping the Abbott Alive.

at this point in time… Eva has nothing to lose. outside of her familial duties . a love life ? just amp it up Eva … have fun with “it” better Jack than Victor… that should scare you.

vixen, coquettish, nymph, siren, DAMNED damsel, thou art loose, FULL ON

CHARGE

Eva was “stuck” as St. Maria, being the older sibling of the Santos Clan.

WOW did she have spontaneous combustion sure fire with John Callahan… her ex-hubby.

draw from cull from… your own sexual acute AND FIRE

YAY!!!! Love her!!!!

Great Move. Should be the missing piece to the Rosales family.
Probably will be Jack Abbott’s love interest in time.

Great!! Hopefully she will be for Jack and not Lauren, as it seems they are testing the waters. Another test that I TRULY hope will fail is Tracy & Cain – No, NO & NO!!!

I agree with most of the comments. I like E.L, mostly from AMC, and I also immediately thought of her being someone for Jack. I am really not liking him with Lauren, and where would that leave Michael, although we don’t see very much of him anymore.
Also I can’t stand the idea of Traci and Cane, especially when she pictures him naked.
Oh, maybe, he’ll be smitten with Mama Celeste!

Violet I am with you – Tracy imaging Cane naked was way too much! Don’t get me wrong, everyone deserves love, but those two as a couple – NO! Cane would look at her as a mother figure. Expecting her to solve all of his problems and clean up his messes.

Lew S
I answered before, but I guess it didn’t get posted. After you described Traci as a possible mother figure, I immediately pictured Cane in his high chair, and Traci trying to get him to eat his veggies.

HA!! I can picture that as well!!

Violet and Lew,
Hello, my friends—-did I miss something? I did skip a couple of eps and didn’t catch up…..
So, Lauren is up to her old carnal esca

Sorry….posted accidentally…
….Lauren is up to her old carnal escapades? She pictured Cane naked, of all men? Ewwww!! I guess those itchy, little menopausal hormones are overwhelmingly intractable. Poor Michael!! He should ask Jack for some “stamina” pills —-you know? Hard to keep up in the boudoir with insatiable partners……Lauren is restless… Ha and
High School Health class was very informative. LOL…..

Hi Celia, Good to receive a post from you! It was Tracy who pictured Cane naked. It seems she has the hots for him. It seemed like they were trying to pair Jack with Lauren, but with Eva LaRue joining the cast, hoping she will be Jack’s next love interest. Have a good evening!

Hey, Lew,
WOW!! Tracy? Level-headed, Tracy? LOL….oh, boy…..grandmas gone wild??!! I guess what’s good for the goose etc.etc.etc.( in this case, gander–as in Jack). Lil’ sister is following in big brother’s footsteps.
This explains the reason she and Cane spend so much time together—Writing a book?…. right out of the blue. All in her head, I hope….I have these horrible pictures skipping through my head.
I love Eva…..I wish she were paired with someone else—but who? Not enough men. Plus, they’re all lacking something, in one way or another. it’s a wonder these people ( having been passed around hither and yon with each other and then some) haven’t ‘picked’ up something nasty, Lew. LOL.❤️

Hi Celia
Iam still laughing because of what Lew told you about Traci having the hots for lame Cane, and as she is writing this new novel, with suggestions from him, visualizes him in every aspect of the story, including being naked. YUK! Then reading your ideas of what you thought had happened just got me laughing all over again.
For once Lauren is innocent of chasing after a man, but is pushing her husband to help her find someone for Jack. At first it looked like sparks flying between she and Jacko, so a lot of us were like, uh oh, what’s happening here? I can’t speak for Lew, but I think my eyeballs are a little singed.

TOTALLY SINGED!

Violet and Lew….you guys are the best!! Cracking up!!….I appreciate those with a twisted sense of humor, as myself. I find “funny”, if I put my mind to it, in practically anything…. LOL.❤️

Totally bizarre. For the new writer and producer to come in and just about immediately announce half of the Rosales clan was being removed from the show, it seems so odd to now bring on the mother. Though she would make a good love interest for Jack.

NICE. This could work. Easy to picture Eva Larue AND Michelle Stafford. A must to keep Phyllis and Jack fresh. High yield with Eva. This three some should enliven. Pulse set

No I’m sick of Phyllis and Jack. Ava and Jack would be great love story. He needs to take his dad place in the family like his John . Jack to old to play the fields . His son doing enough of that i do miss popping up and talking to John .Need a wedding for Jack and Eva this winter around Xmas.

With the two most annoying members of the Rosales family exiting the canvas soon, I’m actually okay with this. I have a feeling she’ll be paired with Jack at some point, unless the plan is to pair up Michelle Stafford’s Phyllis with Jack again when she returns.

Also, don’t get me wrong, I love Eva LaRue (I remember her on CSI: Miami, she was great). But doesn’t she seem a little young to play Jordi Vilasuso’s mother? They’re only a 15 year age difference between the actors. She could easily pass for Lola and Arturo’s mother, but not Rey.

I agree on the age discrepancy but she may have had Rey in her late teens which may then lead deeper into the back story of why Rey took on a responsible parental role being the eldest sibling. And this may also open up a return of Mia and Arturo with baby in tow in another year or so. Jack definitely needs someone with fabulous acting chops. I was hoping for Beth Chamberlain, aka Beth Raines Spaulding from Guiding Light, but I’m happy to entertain this new character, for Eva is a great actress.

Who’s to say she didn’t give birth to him when she was 15 or 16? Do we know their back story?

Good Lord! No way she looks old enough to be Rey’s mother! I know soaps push the limit on this (i.e. Oliva/Dante on GH & many others) but really! I agree with most of the other comments-no more Rosales!

You all talking about the age difference look at Loura don’t Y&R she has a son Fin she know teen anymore . And she is a beautiful Lady. So Ray and his mom Eva age not much. Eva beautifully mother. The kids grow up fast on the soaps. That’s TV Soaps we love them. I’m not a teen anymore 63 and not a beautiful as the older lady’s on the show god blessed them with it what is age.

With all due respect. Could @Y&R be channeling A new family of color. Regrettably the Neil winters clan with just lilly and Devon and the ucky twins. No go. SAD. Still fresh the hurt. SAD

Patrick
Was thinking the same thing. With new Nate, whom I’am not thrilled with, plus Devon’s sister Ana and her father and cousin, Lilly and her twins should not be missed. Why oh why could they not have taken Cane with them? Maybe he’ll romance Esther instead of Tracy.

I’m with that keep Tracy away from her Cane trouble she is to good for him. Cane and Phyllis are good with chatting .

She’s soap royalty. With good story to play it should be great. I see her with Jack.

Looking at some of your comments, you guys need to give Eva LaRue a chance. I wasn’t too thrilled about the Rosales but I grew to like them and yes I could see the love interest between her and Jack.

Also, Eva is 52 or 53 so she is the right age. I would think she had Rey at a very young age.

This makes sense. You trim all the fat and then you can go out and spend money on a proven commodity. Eva LaRue will be Jack’s new love interest.

Timmm
Isn’t she a little old for Jackie? We all know how he likes them young and tender, the old fool!

Jack needs to slow down and stop playing the field Eva could but a stop to it with her beauty and with love for each other.

Violet. His do you explain Gloria? I bet Bergman is happy about this possible match. He had said in interviews that he’d like to be paired with someone older. He explained that they haven’t paired jack up with someone closer to his age due to budgetary concerns.

Harry
Why do you think it would stress their budget? Do they have to pay the older gals more money? Probably so, they have more experience and mph.

You are correct. Maybe Summer has a girlfriend who is single!

Eva made Maria Santos shine—-I welcome her as the Rosales Mom with open heart!! Eva is perfect for this role—gorgeous and talented!!

Yes you have spent a fortune on returns etc but cbs was not going to give mm a raise to keep her ! Well it always helps if you have a agent who blackmails people just ask JM two new huge sets now she is back on cbs funny how that works ! We have a 24 year veteran whose mother had not been on since 2009 and still does not know she has a granddaughter twin back from the dead!

Hey, Kay,
Yeah—Doris vanished without an explanation….that is soooo weird. Never a mention by Sharon or anyone else!!!!

Celia and Kay
I remember very well the last time we saw Doris. Sharon had just been brought back by the police after she had been broken out of jail by Adam. She ran away and had been staying with the veterinarian who took her in for a while. Anyway Doris tore Sharon up one side and down the other, like she was the daughter from hell. I guess the writers had forgotten how close these two were. As you said, she hasn’t been seen or mentioned since.

Love that Eva LaRue coming to Y&R .She would make Jack a lovely woman for a wife . The show need more older people married on the show. To many old single on the show. Billy, and others. Miss Paul too he is great. I begin watching the show in 1970s. I’m a big soap fan they are great actors.Katherine and Jill the best. Katherine played in a lot of cowboy shows.Miss her a lot. A beautiful Lady.Hope Jill comes back more often love you Jill. Katherine Bennett of Belington, WV.

OOOOOO MY GOD YES! Celeste/Jack/Phyllis PLEASE!!!!

Well, she is not much older than Sharon and only about 15 years older than Rey, her son. Aside from that, I am thrilled she is joining the cast. I always loved Eva La Rue. I recall Erica Kane calling her “Saint Maria of the Push-up bra.” La Rue is ageless and gorgeous and this is positive news. I think she will be a love interest for Jack.

15 year age difference between Eva and Jordy. Yes, technically she could be his mother, but Eva is too young for this role unless they will age her. Not hating on Eva getting the role, but it just seems really preposterous.

There are more preposterous age-gaps in soap operas, or even in primetime.

good casting but half the family is gone and the 2 left should have been the 2 that they sent packing. this show is currently at the most boring i have seen in years

Hayden Panettiere Remembered: ‘Guiding Light’ and More Stars Mourn Her Loss in Wake of Tragic Death

Published

By

Hayden Panettiere

Tributes continue to pour in from the entertainment and soap opera community, and especially from former co-stars of Hayden Panettiere, who died on Sunday at the age of 36.

Panetierre was best-known to soap fans for her roles as as a young Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light and Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live, and as an adult in ABC’s music city primetime soap opera, Nashville where she starred as Juliette Barnes opposite General Hospital alum, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky, GH and ex-Avery, Nashville).

As previously reported, Panettiere died on Sunday afternoon, August 16 in a home in Greenville, South Carolina. The coroner released an official statement on Monday, which read in part “no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies.” First responders rushed to the scene after a 911 call about a woman who was unresponsive from an overdose and in cardiac arrest.

Now below, check out some of the heartfelt remembrances for the extraordinarily talented, Hayden Panettiere from several of her Guiding Light co-stars and more. Michael Fairman TV will continue to add to the list of tributes throughout the next few days as they become available, as well as keep you updated on any further developments in Panettiere’s death.

Beth Chamberlin (Beth Raines, GL): “Hayden played my daughter for 3 years. She was the most brilliant child actor I’ve ever seen.  The things she could do, the way she could remember 20+ pages of dialogue, day after day.  Even on days where the director would come out between dress and tape and make huge cuts to the scenes, Hayden, never once forgot a line or missed her blocking.  The adults would, but not Hayden.  I felt blessed to work with her. And always perfect in her playing of the scene.”

Connie Britton (Rayna James, Nashville): “This was Hayden. Bursting with brilliance, shining so bright. I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak.
I love you girl. Sleep easy now. 💔”

Tina Sloan (Lillian Raines, GL): “Hayden Panettiere was my granddaughter on Guiding Light. She died at 36 and was such a star.”

Rebecca Budig (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL, now Taylor, B&B): “I remember working alongside her..loved her and her family. She and Beth were spectacular together. So sad for her family and those who knew and loved her.”

Karla Mosley: (Dani Dupree, BTG) “This is awful awful news. Blessings to her soul and all who loved her.”

Photo: CBS

Bethany Joy Lenz: (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL) “There is nothing that posting pictures on the internet can do. I avoid it usually in moments like this. But Im here with my head in my hands and I don’t know what else to do in aside from praying for her soul, which I have done and will continue. I’m crushed. I knew the wild little blonde. Was she nine? Ten? I was eighteen. She ran through the Screen Gem studio hallways at 222 E44th St. laughing and playing games in between Guiding Light blocking and camera rehearsals. Long, unruly curls trailing behind her. She knew her lines and everyone else’s. Her intelligence was astonishing. She understood scenes and nuance and human struggle like no child I’d ever seen on camera. And she’d sit with you for a great conversation, then giggle and go play. We’d connect on and off over the years, like the cousin in the family reunion who got famous and life moved her away—but I always felt such joy seeing her when we were lucky enough to cross paths. We’d make a pact to talk soon. Lunch. Dinner. Somewhere we could curl up into a corner—but we never quite made it happen. I mostly stayed up to date through mutual friends.”

Lenz continued, “I don’t understand how this is real. Everything seemed to be turning around. She was coming BACK to life, wasn’t she? It’s too young and there’s still so much more life. And her daughter…. Hayden, you are surround by love. I’m sorry for every moment I didn’t reach out or check in. This can’t be real. These are moments of how I knew you, in glimpses over 26 years. I don’t know how to process this. I am praying for you to know the peace of God now and always.”

Brittany Snow: (ex-Daisy Lemay, GL) “I was lucky enough to play your sister for 3 years. I related to you so much in so many ways. Ways that I never even told you. Your talent was remarkable & so was your determination to be a bold, bright shining light. And you were. Always supportive, curious, funny and brave. You will always be remembered undoubtedly for your undeniable strength and spirit 💔.”

Charles Esten, Hayden Panettiere

Photo: CestenIG

Charles Esten (ex-Deacon Clayborne, Nashville): Patty (Esten’s wife) and I are stunned and saddened at the loss of our dear and beautiful friend Hayden. I will never forget the first time I met her. In a sound stage office in Hollywood, I was finishing up my very first NASHVILLE audition. I had read two Deacon scenes before pulling out my guitar and singing two songs. I said my goodbyes and, hoping I’d done well, went to open the door to leave. Instead of swinging all the way out, the door bumped into somebody. Kinda hard.”

“To my complete surprise, It was Hayden Paniettiere, who – in full Juliette Barnes mode – had been listening with her ear to the door. Instead of looking even a little bit caught, her face instantly bloomed into the most beautiful smile. Eyes twinkling, she clapped her hands and said, “That was so good!!” I can promise you that in that moment, there was nothing in the world I needed to hear more than that. I told her that, along with my HEROES-watching family, I was already a big fan of hers, and that I was grateful for the very kind words. It was her turn to go in, so as I went to leave, I said a jokingly cocky, “See you on the set!”

“I was, of course, many auditions away from landing that incredible role. But when I finally did, and showed up in Nashville to start work, she walked right up to me, pointed in my face, and with that magical grin said, “See you on the set!” From there, we became fast friends, working very hard to play those 2 troubled Nashvillians, but always having fun and laughing a whole lot along the way. She was, of course, extraordinarily talented, infusing her larger-than-life character with all the heart, charisma, humor, whip-smart intelligence, and flat-out magic that were, alongside whatever troubles and pain she carried, a part of her own personal palette. What a great gift it was to act with her, sing with her, and to just be her friend. She was always extremely kind to my family, especially my wife, Patty, who I’m certain she liked even more than me.”

Together, we are heartbroken that she is gone, and praying for her family, and for all those who, like us, will miss and mourn her so dearly. God bless you, Hayden.
Rest In Peace and Light ❤️

Emme Rylan: (ex-Lizzie Spaulding, GL et al.)” So very sad. Rest in peace sweet soul.”

Bryan Craig: (ex-Morgan, GH) posted a text exchange via his Instagram story he had with Panettiere where they laughed about her making fun of his hat. He wrote: “Love you Hayden. Rest in peace Angel.” Craig later added, “Cherish the moments with people you love and care about. As cliche as it sounds. Send that text, get that cup of coffee, tell them you love them and you’re proud of them. You may not get the chance again.”

John Oliver Recaps His ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘General Hospital’ Soap Opera Experience on ‘Last Week Tonight’

Published

on

By

John Oliver

Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver had his soap dreams come true on not one, but two long-running daytime dramas, heralding it his “hot soap summer” on the Sunday night, August 16 edition of his HBO series.

As viewers recall, Oliver’s tour of soap duty began back in March when he made a request and an offer to appear in any daytime drama that would have him with certain conditions, which included: having a ridiculous and over the top character name, a juicy storyline, and a slap.

Both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital came a-calling for Oliver, taking him up on his offer and in short order. Oliver appeared on GH in the role of the head of the WSB named  Z on episodes airing July 2-6, and then on DAYS in the role of Salem’s chief water inspector, Devlin St. John, in episodes that streamed the week of August 11.

Photo: ABC

FIRST STOP, PORT CHARLES

On Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared that both soaps delivered, and then launched into a comedic send-up complete with clips from some of his scenes. Starting with General Hospital.

Oliver said, “To General Hospital’s credit, they met all my requirements and more. First, my character got to arrive by a helicopter flanked by a pair of armed goons. And I got to do a dramatic walk during which I bravely shot in the general direction of a guy who was already on the ground. It’s called being an action star, by the way, unless you’re me or Vin Diesel, you really wouldn’t understand. And then in my next scene, I revealed my true identity. (Oliver played the scene where Josslyn wakes up in a hospital bed with Z standing at the side of her bed introducing himself).

He continued, “As for getting slapped, well, they knocked that and me out of the park too, because it turns out that agent’s mother was not happy with me,” explained Oliver, as they cut to the slap of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) in the WSB Port Charles bureau office on Z. Oliver screamed, “YES! It has everything! A slap, a dramatic closeup, and me doing a voice so wrong, it is genuinely embarrassing. That was my honest attempt at an American accent. I can’t tell you why it’s southern. I can only tell you I was trying my hardest.”

Photo: ABC

SECOND STOP, SALEM

Then, came John’s wrap-up of his role of Devlin St. John on Days of Our Lives, the town’s chief city water inspector. “It is on Days of Our Lives I appeared in scenes alongside soap legends like Jackée Harry (Paulina) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie). And the Days of Our Lives team met my demands in a whole different way because instead of being an international spy boss, they wrote me a character a little more my speed.”

Cut to a clip of Oliver introducing himself as Devlin St. John to Rita. He explains, “I’m the only thing standing between this town and a catastrophic plumbing failure. A literal sewage apocalypse. They made me Salem’s Chief City Water Inspector, which let’s be honest, is perfect casting. If you’re going to bottle my essence and sell it as cologne, it would be called ‘Chief City Water Inspector.'”

DEVLIN’S WIG

The late night host also clarified all the reports, that the wig he wore for his DAYS character he actually brought from home. “Now, as for the hair, I agree, it’s absolutely incredible. It’s been reported this past week that it is a wig I brought to set from home. And while it wasn’t technically from home, we did actually provide that wig, and for good reason,” joked Oliver. “I’ve seen myself act. I knew the hair was going have to do 90% of the work. I’ll be honest, I was going for a healthy John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) look, but instead, it appears I ended up looking more like Tina from Bob’s Burgers.”

Photo: Corday Productions

“And if you’re wondering whether I got slapped on Days of Our Lives, not only was I slapped by a man wearing elegant silk pajamas (EJ), I also got to slap him, which felt utterly incredible. But wait, I was also stabbed with a syringe and not once, not even twice, but three different times. And if that wasn’t enough, this happened too.” At that point, Oliver played the clip of Rita using the taser on Devlin.

JOHN OLIVER LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR A SOAP RETURN

The now late night star-turned-soap actor concluded his segment with, “Are you not entertained? Watching that makes me feel the way I assume Matt Damon felt after seeing the first cut of the Odyssey, both proud and impressed that my body could even do that. Which again, you wouldn’t understand. You’re not an action star like I am now. ”

As he ended his recap, Oliver thanked both soaps for playing along, and noting that neither DAYS or GH actually killed him off! Could a John Oliver return happen down the line? Stay tuned.

Watch John detail his soap dreams come to life on General Hospital and then Days of our Lives below.

Now let us know, what did you think of the performances of John Oliver on General Hospital and Days of our Lives? Did you prefer one over the other or enjoy both of his guest arc visits? Could you see Oliver nominated in the Guest Performer category at next year’s Daytime Emmys, even for a 3-episode run on one of the soaps? Let us know in the comment section.
