Another familiar face to soap fans is heading to Port Charles this summer. Trent Dawson, the former Henry Coleman on the defunct and beloved As the World Turns is taking on a recurring, but noted to be a short-term role on the ABC daytime drama series.
According to TV Line, Dawson will play Huxley, a mysterious Brit with questionable motives. Look for Huxley to first appear on-screen on the Monday, June 13th episode. Soap Opera Digest first broke the news.
Dawson was on CBS’ As the World Turns for 11 years from 1999-2010, and his on-screen love story with Colleen Zenk’s (Barbara), and their reconnection was one of the series final moments.
Who do you think Dawson’s Huxley will be connected to in story on GH? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
Awesome. He’s a true talent. Even though the cast is way big, I’ll be happy to see him. A suspicious Brit? Is he connected to Finn, or Rachel/Hayden, or Laura. Hopefully not the mob.
i think its Finn…Hamilton run off with Roxie the Lizard-Roxie was engaged to Huxley who was once a lizard himself and now he wants revenge and will also demand flies served at the Metro Court restaurant as well…he is also part of a mob-of lizards-the head of this organization is Godzilla-lol
Hey Jim…’Godzilla’…LOL!!!!! GOOD ONE!!!!!
not familiar with his work, but if he’s brit, hopefully he’s playing some mi6 spy and he knows anna, that would be cool, otherwise i don’t know if it s mob related again then count me bored.
I heard he is working with Ava which would be cool to see to ATWT vets together again.
SUPER NEWS…..HE WILL BE A WONDERFUL ADDITION.
Trent is a fantastic “get” for GH! Can’t wait to see him on the show. But as happy as I am to see him again, I am glad it’s just short term, as I feel the cast is too bloated. If someone, a lot of someones, go, then I’m love to see him back for more. He’s a true treasure.
I agree..on ATWT I had always wanted Henry to be gay bit they paI red him with Katie and them of all people Barbara Ryan
Maybe here he will be-maybe he is Brad or Lucas’s former lover who is a patient at the hospital and comes between them???
davlestev1…in real life, I always thought that Trent Dawson was gay. Just saying……….
He’s not gay, hes married with a baby. Sorry boys.
And now we have Caitlin Jenner who used to be Olympian Bruce Jenner… large family multiple marriages so girl…BYE FELECIA
My friend actually knows him and his family. He’s straight. Has been straight his whole life. Bye Felicia.
Glad to hear it is short term. There are much better GETS from defunct soaps…
I agree, Kevin. Trent Dawson was a blast on ATWT, but there are several performers cut from GH in recent years that I’d like to see return (especially Brandon Barash’s Johnny and wonderful Bradford Anderson’s Spinelli), plus as you say multitudes from canceled soaps. They should put out a list and let fans vote for a change as to who we’d like to see. There’s a novel idea!
I know that I am probably not alone when I say I have been a huge fan of GH in the late seventies to the mid eighties. Everyday after school my sister and I would be glued to the TV set. After real life and work set in I lost track. I picked it up again when they were having the 50th anniversary nurses ball and I got caught up in the Sabrina, Patrick and Brit storyline. I am glad that Genie Fra ncis is getting somewhat of a story with the Helana Cassidine will reading. What would be nice is that this adventure would take her back to Beechers Corners, and maybe Denise Alexander could swing by a few episodes for old times sake. On a side note, as a longtime fan of the Young and the Restless, I am so happy to see Billy Miller and Michelle Stafford again. It’s nice to see excellent talent put to use.
Love it. I am a big fan of Trent Dawson, still miss Henry from ATWT’S.
I cannot wait! I adored him and Colleen Zenk as Barbara and Henry on ATWT. Maybe he will be connected to Finn or Griffin Munro! Who knows? That’s why we love to watch!
I am absolutely thrilled to hear this! He’s a great catch and a multi-talented actor that can pull off drama and comedy simultaneously! So happy!
Please keep him on permanently – super talented, under-utilized and when the story lines were on fire right when ATWT ended he was in the thick of it. Have him interface somehow with Brad and Lucas or Olbrecht.
What delightful news tonite!! Loved him on ATWT! Looking forward to seeing what he will be bringing. Good move, GH!
I can’t wait to see him back on TV. HE WAS THE BEST THING ABOUT AS THE WORLD TURNS. it’s not often you see true acting chops on a soap, much less comedic ones, but Trent has them and it showed in every scene he was in. Even in his guests spots on prime time he really managed to shine.
I love Trent Dawson. I will look forward to seeing him. Maybe his story is with Felix and Finn. We can find out what Finn is actually up to. The actor is not British.
I don’t even care who this character will be connected to, I’m just thrilled to have the chance to see Trent Dawson on screen again.
I love Trent Dawson please keep him as long as he wants to stay. I want to meet him in person it’s on my bucket list and I am 68 years young.
I am a huge Trent Dawson fan. Met him and his now wife Sharon at one of the soap events. They were both so super nice and chill. He is immensely talented and I saw him on stage in New York City too. He has a baby now who is adorable. I hope he gets to be a dad on GH. I always loved him in scenes with babies on atwt. Really thrilled he’s coming back. We should start a writing campaign to get him a contract like we did with world turns.
Why..
Because he is super talented and half the cast at GH can’t act.
I am ecstatic he is joining the cast. He is a unique talent and daytime has not seen the likes of him ever. I cannot think of a better injection of true talent to the cast to get it energized. He light up the screen every time he’s on it. I didn’t like the storyline at the end of atwt because i wanted him with Katie, but he played his romance with Barbara beautifully. Bravo GENERAL HOSPITAL!
My wife got me hooked on atwt and the only way I could stand it was because of Trent’s character, Henry. He was hilarious and could also evoke true emotion. I have been eagerly awaiting him to get his own show on prime time. That guy would rock a sitcom, or even better, a dramedy where he gets to really show his chops. HBO and showtime are missing out on this true talent. He would be PERFECT on VEEP. I don’t often comment on things like this, in fact, I never do, but Trent is a unique talent who I would love to see go even beyond daytime. Until such time, I will now tune into GH to see what he brings to the table.
I have watch ATWT For many years and Henry is Hilarious and he always
made me laugh I’m very Happy for Him now because he is one of a kind
of person. I really like when he was with Barbara on ATWT. Go Trent!!
Yay!!! Trent Dawson is tremendously talented. I’ve seen him on stage in multiple productions in Baltimore (he does a great British accent, btw) and once in NYC. What a multi-faceted talent! General Hospital would be wise to tap into his talent AND his fan base and bring him on board full time. So excited to see this. Not enough true talent on TV in general these days.
I cannot WAIT to see Trent back on daytime, I agree with the other comments that he belongs on HBO or SHOWtime but in the interim, I will take him however I can get him. This is great news for GH and great news for me! I follow him on Twitter and his Facebook fanpage and I love whenever I see news about him Just aweseome.
He SOOOO belongs on HBO or SHOWTIME. I think VEEP would be a great fit!
Yay! So happy to see Trent back on daytime. I have watched all of his primetime shows and he was great, but there is something about seeing him everyday that really appeals to me. He is soooooo talented and is actually a really nice guy (went to his annual fan event, Martini’s with Henry in NYC). He was so engaging and seemed so appreciative that everyone made the trip. I want more of those events!! Anyway, I am thrilled to see him back on TV and hope GH is smart and gives this man a contract. TRUE TALENT!!
Trent is my favorite actor. I say that having seen him on stage and on ATWT. He is incredibly talented. I had always hoped he was gay and he has played gay men on stage in such unique ways that I still wondered. But, alas, he is straight and married to a lovely woman I met at a soap event years ago. He is not my favorite because I thought was was gay (and attractive) but because he is so versatile. He plays a Brit beautifully and a southern minister convincingly and a 1950’s con man to perfection. I never liked soaps, but my ex-boyfriend watched ATWT years ago and told me to check him out. I was hooked ever since (we are talking the year 2000) so I have been following Trent’s career for quite some time. I will tune in to GH now just because he is on it and I suspect many others will as well. GH would be smart to keep him around. I am just so excited.
I am not a soap fan–I am a Trent fan. i agree with a lot of other people that Trent is the reason I watched ATWT. My mom liked the show and I always rolled my eyes when she watched until Trent joined the show in 1999. He was so funny and charming and DIFFERENT from the other actors that I just loved watching him. I eventually saw him on stage in NYC and realized how talented he really is. I work in the theatre now doing lighting and have worked with some people who worked with him. They say that he is a true talent and better than most people he has had to work with (challenging I am sure). I hope I get to work with him in NYC one day, but until then, I will now tune in to GH to see him–hopefully for a long time to come.

Mark Rydell, Oscar-Nominated ‘On Golden Pond’ Director, Who Began Career on ‘As the World Turns,’ ‘The Edge of Night,’ Dies at 97

Mark Rydell, one of the most highly-lauded motion picture directors in Hollywood, and who got his start acting on the soaps, has died. He was 97.
The news of his passing came from Bette Midler, who starred in The Rose, which Rydell also directed. Midler took to her Instagram on Friday, August 14 and shared the news.
Bette expressed, “Mark Rydell, the director or my first film, The Rose, died this morning. He was an actor of note before he became a director, and I was so lucky to have met him when I did; he taught me so much on The Rose and later on For The Boys. Two Oscars nominations both because of him. He was the actor’s whisperer; just a few words was all it took to understand what was needed.”

As soap fans know, Rydell got his first big break playing Jeff Baker on As the World Turns. The popular character was involved on-screen with then star of the CBS soap opera, Rosemary Prinz (ex-Penny Hughes). He stayed in the role from 1956-1962. When the producers wanted him to re-up his contract, Rydell decided to leave, and so the writers killed-off the character of Jeff in a car crash. Before ATWT, Rydell played Walt Johnson on The Edge of Night.
MARK RYDELL DIRECTED SOME OF HOLLYWOOD’S BIGGEST STARS
After a busy career in primetime television roles, Mark began to direct in 1967 with the controversial feature, The Foxes. Because of his acting beginnings, Rydell was known as an actors director. Thus, began an enduring career in Hollywood directing films with some of movies biggest stars at the time including: Steve McQueen in 1969’s The Reivers, John Wayne in 1972’s The Cowboys, and James Caan and Marsha Mason in 1973’s Cinderella Liberty. In 1976, he also directed the pilot episode of the hit ABC domestic drama Family.
It was in 1979, that Rydell directed Bette Midler in her first feature film and lead role in The Rose, in which she was Oscar-nominated, and by 1981, the former soap star was directing the likes of Katherine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, and Jane Fonda in On Golden Pond, for which he received his only Academy Award nomination as a director. He followed with The River (1984), For the Boys (1991), and many more through the years.
Rydell was previously married from 1962 to 1973 to Joanne Linville who had appeared on Guiding Light, The Goddess, and 1976’s film version of a A Star Is Born. The couple had two children, Amy and Christopher. Later, a second marriage to Esther Rydell produced his son, Alexander, before ending in divorce.
Survivors include Rydell’s three children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

AS THE WORLD TURNS CAST SHARES REMEMBRANCES OF SCOTT BRYCE
Over the last few weeks heartfelt condolences on the loss of Scott have poured including from: Finn Carter (ex-Sierra, ATWT), Martha Byrne (ex-Lily, ATWT), Melanie Smith (ex-Emily, ATWT) and many more.
In fact, Bryne made note to TV Insider following the loss of As the World Turns co-star, of just how memorable Bryce’s work with the late Elizabeth Hubbard’s work as Lucinda was, and their unforgettable pairing; “The energy between them, their dynamic, all the play, fun, and the intensity just jumped through the screen. Most actors wouldn’t go down to set just to watch other performers. They’d stay in their rooms. I would go and just watch them work.”
The livestream will be broadcast courtesy of the The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport, Connecticut.
We all loved Scott Bryce and his powerful performances as Craig on As the World Turns and his body of work in primetime television as well. Now, it’s time to say our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones. Comment below.

Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill, Bryce’s longtime friend and former co-star announced his death via her Facebook under an hour ago (in a post that has now been deleted, but see below). SCOTT BRYCE’S RUN AS CRAIG MONTGOMERY WAS MEMORABLE
However, Lucie Arnaz shared on her Facebook post in the comment thread section when asked, that Scott’s cancer had returned. She has appeared in two projects with Bryce, the Indie film, The Pack and the TV series, Sons and Daughters.
Jackson Bryce, Scott’s beloved son, shared a beautiful tribute to his father after his passing on his Instagram where he shared that, “What began as stage three esophageal cancer eventually spread and became brain tumors that took his life away from him.”
Scott was the son of actor Ed Bryce, who was best-known for his role on the soaps as Bill Bauer on Guiding Light from 1959 to 1983. On As the World Turns, Scott had a significant run as Craig Montgomery, and at one point was initially paired on-screen with Meg Ryan (ex-Betsy Stewart). Bryce had appeared on the CBS soap opera from 1982–1991, 1993–1994, and 2007–2008.

On As the Word Turns, Scott’s on-screen romance was with Finn Carter, who played Sierra Esteban was a fan favorite for longtime viewers.
Carter expressed her grief on Instagram following the news of Bryce’s passing sharing, “My sadness knows no bounds. My gratitude for Scott knows even fewer. Scott was the best husband a woman could ask for. As an actor he was fearless, kind, generous and forever looking for ways to grow. And what a sense of humor! It is so difficult to write this as I can not stop crying . Scott , you were a gift that I did not deserve and one the world was freely given . All of my love to you – ah, just can’t stop crying. See you soon ( not too soon) and look forward to recalling our days on As The World Turns . You patiently taught me so much . XO”
It was during his initial run that Scott received two Daytime Emmy nominations for his performances as the manipulative Craig Montgomery. Bryce was nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in both 1986 and 1987.
Bryce exited ATWT in February of 2008 and by December of that year, Jon Lindstrom, (Beyond the Gates, General Hospital) was brought in as the final Craig from 2008-2010 as the soap went off the air. Over the years, Hunt Block and Jeffrey Meek also played the role of Craig.
