Days Of Our Lives
‘General Hospital’ Favorite Sofia Mattsson Joins the Cast of ‘Days of Our Lives’
Sofia Mattsson is returning to the soaps, but not in her role as General Hospital’s Sasha Gilmore, but instead in a hush-hush role on Days of our Lives! The casting news was announced on Monday in Stephanie Sloane’s launch of her newsletter, SoapSteph’s Daytime Dish.
According to Sloane, look for Mattsson to first be seen on your screens in early 2027. Since DAYS tapes 10-months ahead of streaming new episodes in its home on Peacock, Sofia is already at the DAYS studio, where she posed in a photo in Sloane’s newsletter in front of he dressing room.
As General Hospital viewers know, Sofia ended her run on GH on-screen back in July of 2025, when Jason (Steve Burton) escorted Sasha and her newly born baby Daisy to safety across the pond. In story, Sasha wound up on the doorstep of her dad, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) and her mother, Holly Sutton’s (Emma Samms) home in Europe.

Once inside, the touching episode would turn out being Tristan Rogers last on the ABC soap opera in his signature soap role, shortly before he passed away from lung cancer back on August 15 at the age of 79.
Sasha left Port Charles to protect Daisy from harm as she was being gaslighted by Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), something that has never been brought back up. Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) is the baby’s father, so it will be interesting when and if they bring the character of Sasha back.
In real-life, Sofia is married to writer/producer Thomas Payton; and they share two young children. Soap fans were intrigued by a recent Instagram post by Mattsson from March 5, where she clearly shared she was in Tinseltown sparking rumors she was back on set, somewhere! Sofia teased, “Soaking up the LA sunshine 🥰☀️” In addition, Sofia was now a brunette.
Since there is no word yet on who Mattsson will be playing in Salem, we throw that to you in the comment section! Who would you like to see Sofia play? Brand new character or a blast or recast from the past? Let us know your thoughts below.

Very excited for her; I do wonder if it’s a new role or if it’s a recast. Either way, I’m very happy she’s found work in daytime. And I’m also glad she’s ditched the blonde hair. The brunette complements her much more.
Abigail (the real one, not fake)
I love Sophia but I’m not gonna follow her to Dool, why didn’t she return to GH? To be honest kind of bummed about it. Plus Dool advanced filming schedule might be a money saver for Dool, how I don’t know but if I was a Dool fan and had to wait to see someone come on or leave and know that in advance I would be frustrated.
God forbid an actor wants to play other characters.
Abigail i bet
It’s a stretch but could she be playing Kristen since Stacey Haiduk is back at Y&R?
HIGHLY doubt it, especially since there is nothing stopping Stacy Haiduk from appearing on Days of Our Lives.
Stacey is only on Y&R temporarily and will remain with DOOL! Could she be playing Teresa? Abigail?
Stacy already confirmed she has not been at Days of Our Lives since January; right now, her main position is The Young and the Restless, but she would be open to doing both.
She’s way too young to be Kristen. Remember that Kristen used to be Brady’s stepmother when he was a small child, and that EJ was only born to replace the baby she miscarried when she was married to John Black. SORASing is crazy in Salem, of course, but there’s no possible way that Kristen could be under 60 by any reasonable accounting of the years she’s been around.
Maybe they are bringing about Ciara and she’s been cast in the role.
I hope so
I hope she returns to GH for Tristan Rogers’ tribute episode.
I’m sure she’s on contract at Days, but I’m predicting her frustrated publicist will correct me.
Abigail is the only existing character I can think of, off the top of my horns, who would be in the right age range for a recast. Unless they’re making her an entirely new character. Which would be a mistake, really. The core families of Salem are disappearing as it is, and they need to get some more Hortons, Bradys, DiMeras, and Kiriakises back in town by one means or another.
Though Hell only knows how a Chad & Abigail pairing would work if both of them were recasts.
On the other horn, does this mean that Sofia will not be available for GH whenever they get around to writing Robert Scorpio’s passing into the storyline? Considering how drastically they had to tamper with GH history to make Sasha his daughter in the first place, it doesn’t seem right that they wouldn’t want her around whenever that story airs. Unless it’s already been filmed, which might be the case, as it would explain Ethan’s return, which apparently begins this week.
I haven’t watched Days for 30+ years. I was an avid fan of NBC soaps until they cancelled Another World and Days got ridiculous. By that time I was already stuck on ABC soaps and GH is now the only one I watch. I do hope the best for Sofia and also she’ll be playing Sasha when the time comes for Scorpio’s (Tristan) tribute. God bless.
Abigail.
I have a feeling that she’s going to be playing Abby, she looks the part and fits the look of the character and I’d love it to be true! But she could be coming on as Maggie’s other daughter Melissa? Or another Horton or a Brady but I’m rakeing my brain who ?
She would be too young for Melissa. She was in the same age group as Hope & Jennifer.
Might she be playing Teresa?

ARE SOAP MORE RELEVANT IN 2026?
With the daytime soaps being mentioned in the mainstream of late, including a recent New York Times essay, Ryan Gosling’s high praise of Days of Our Lives icon Deidre Hall (Marlena), Late night host, John Oliver asking to be cast on a soap after doing a bit on his show, it seems daytime drama may be culturally relevant again, or is it really?

To the DAYS fans — Thank you. You are incredibly supportive, caring, and dedicated. I’m so grateful for each and every one of you. There’s more to come, and I hope you’ll come along with me for what’s next.”
