GENERAL HOSPITAL: Anders Hove and Finola Hughes Bring It In Dramatic Faison/Anna Face-Off!

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

Is there any villain in the daytime soaps quite as spectacular as Cesar Faison (Anders Hove)?  In deliciously intense scenes on Wednesday’s episode of ABC’s General Hospital, it was one of the showdowns, or shall we call them “face-off’s” (so many prothestic masks, ya know) that fans have been waiting for.

After capturing the “Flukealike”, who has a gun held on Julian (William deVry), Anna (Finola Hughes)  rips the mask off the imposter, and lo and behold behind it was none other than Anna’s number one enemy, Faison!  Horrified and shocked, Anna with tears of rage, upset, and fear rolling down her face cannot believe that Faison is in front of her … although she was aware he was on the loose somewhere!

However, the clever Dane twists the scene and places the blame on the situation on Anna for having him held captive for over a year on Spoon Island, something he begins to tell to Detective Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna)! Faison goes on to say how the police commish faked his transfer to Steinmauer Maximum Security Prison.   He then confronts Anna in front of Dante, and says, “Don’t you lie to that boy, don’t you lie, after all we’ve been through!”

Courtesy/ABC

Anna has Faison taken away as her cover-ups begin to unravel! Later still, Anna has to finally tell Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), after having Julian arrested as well, that Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) is very much alive too!

And in the end of the episode, as we know, the Fluke story continues, with another intriguing twist, and we will leave that, at that.

Kudos to the amazing scene partnership between Finola Hughes and Anders Hove who truly make Anna and Faison one of the most twisted and greatest rivalries of the soaps of all-time!

So, what did you think of the Anna and Faison scenes? Will Anna’s cover-ups ultimately be her downfall?  Comment below!

DR O is chief of staff and has gone beyond the medical doctrine which dictates “Do no Harm.” She has kidnapped, tortured and beaten people.
If you’re going to apply that kind of logic to Anna, then it follows you must apply it that hideous woman.

Anna shouldn’t be trying to be to straight an arrow she should be bending the law to keep up with these crazy criminals. She was after all a wsb agent , aren’t they more like the c i a then fbi?

Is Nathan going to be Mikkos Cassidines son…i see Dr.O and Helene in a confrontation seen so thats my guess…i know M.C. died over 30 years ago but writers easily change history…what if Mikkos was kept frozen and it was Dr.O who microwaved him and thawed him out…lol…she and Mikkos had an affair and she became pregnant but didnt tell him and also worried it would ruin any chance she’ll have with her beloved Ceasar…she also feared Helenes wrath…and Victors whom she also slept with…also what if the Q mansion Fluke is really Mikkos…he doesnt know Sonny or maybe off… Read more »

I still think Faison is the father…which I DIDN’T think because Dr. O loves Faison so much and he always wanted a son…why would she keep him from him? But it seemed to me today that he was…and Dr. O…even in her passionate love…knows how twisted he is and wanted to keep her son a secret…Just a theory…….

Hi, jimh. I don’t know who Mikkos is, but your premise sounds good to me. Is he another of Helena’s brothers or sons? Her husband? Helena really creeps me out……as does Fluke. She looks like a corpse with too much make-up on, and he as one with fake, serpent’s eyes. I cannot look at them without revulsion; my senses are not so robust. But, far-be-it -from me to naysay what fans of these two feel. They seem to be very popular. JMO. Also, this storyline has lost its spice. How much longer are we to wait?…the plot does not thicken… Read more »

Helene is going to be wearing a Dr.Liesl mask and will remain in PC…real Dr.Liesl goes on the run with Faison, unaware its really Victor who wore a double mask…Helene uses mind control on Jason who helped Faison/Victor to escape…Mikkos was Helenes husband who ‘died’ during the ice princess storyline Helene blames Luke…but its really getting hard, and annoying to figure out who the fluke he is…i thought for sure Alice was going to be suspicious of him after that…is Alice really a woman?

Mikkos is Helena dead husband and Alexis father, that would make Her and Nathan half sibs. Could be Valentine Cassadine, her brother ,heard of but dead?! Faison is such a presense on screen. Thus whole thing is getting crazy. I would like to see flashbacks to make it more real

i absolutely love it!!! I’m so tired of seeing comments of people saying they don’t like it, when this is the best GH has been in years. I’ve been enjoying it so much. However, I really hope that there’s another person involved in this Fluke story. I know that Faison, Larry, Jerry, & Helena are all workin together, but I’d love it if someone else was calling the shots, but then again how can someone be the boss of Helena Cassadine or Jerry Jacks, or Cesar Faison?! Unless Julian is in on the deception too he told Alexis that he meet Fluke/Peter Caspin 10 years after he was in WP. Peter told Julian when they were heading to PC that there is someone there who looks exactly like him. The only person who looks exactly like Fluke is Luke…. we’ll see.

Well said, Kyle! I agree 100%. Unfortunately, some people are just miserable, negative people every day of their life. Can’t do anything about that. Just keep enjoying GH, like myself and the vast majority that are loving the show right now have been, and let those other people continue to miss out. It’s their loss.

Uhhhh……..? Dan? Hey, it’s okay if you want to disagree with people who offer a critical voice of GH. Disagree away. But what is not alright is to call them “miserable negative people every day of their lives.” This is wrong for three reasons: 1. A negative opinion on a storyline does not necessarily equate to that person being miserable and negative every day of their lives. While GH has shown improvement and I am enjoying much of it, I do not enjoy the redundant, dizzying, Scooby Doo-like stories which involve masks, Flucks and red herrings. I assure you I… Read more »

Yes, Kyle. The storyline, in its inception was very interesting. But it has now become worn…like an old pair of shoes. The luster has faded….time to trade them in for a new pair. I would like for this story to point more in Jason’s direction. That, and the Faison/Anna/Liesl storyline is what is holding my interest….so, a little more speed is desperately needed. I echo those sentiments, CeeCee! While others may wax wonderment over the Fluke farce and/or the maternally-minded madness of Nina, for me, Liesl and her twisted love life remain to be one of the most compelling and mysterious of GH tales, made only more magnificent by Kathleen Gati’s perfectly persnickety presence as the officious Dr. O. The fact that such an obviously brilliant and accomplished woman can be so far gone for the odious, wizened troll of terror that is Cesar Faison never ceases to amaze me, yet Gati demonstrates her deep-seated devotion in a most genuine and believable manner,… Read more »

Well, it was anti-climatic to have “Fluke” be unmasked the way he was. I knew there would be more. I know this has gone on forever but I like the twist. Harry, I think they will drag this into February sweeps. If it goes beyond that I will really be pissed. I think it may even wrap before that since Jason will start to remember himself by Christmas and I think that story will dethrone Fluke.

Both PHENOMENAL actors, and I never doubt for a second that Faison has a dark, twisted obsessive love for Anna, and I never doubt for a second that Anna is equally terrified of, and filled with hatred for Faison. It’s a treat to watch them! I also have to say I loved when Anna pretended recently to Liesl at the hospital that she was Faison in an Anna mask and impersonated his accent and asked for a kiss to torture Obrecht. “Is there any villain in the daytime soaps quite as spectacular as Cesar Faison (Anders Hove)?”

Eh, those scenes were a little underwhelming for me. Perhaps because we saw it all last year when he pretended to be Duke. Those scenes were much more potent because Anna was moments from sleeping with him. Plus, I have not seen Cesar act as menacing as he did last year when he shot and killed Bernie and kicked Jason into the water.

To answer your question mr. Fairman, is there any villian in the soap opera world quite as spectacular as Cesar faison? The answer is no but did faison hide his stool or high heal shoes? This is getting interesting with all the villains out n about, the story has a few wholes but I’m still being entertained so for now no bitching on my part.

I love Faison and Anna’s scenes but all these twists need to be wrapped up now. The masks, the fakes, the back-from-the-dead people, the deceptions of who know what when and the motivations of the various clans have been pushed so far in complexity that it makes us care less. And then there’s the kidnapping of Ava’s baby. The storylines have gone on far too long.

Wow Wow, Wow! Yesterday was amazing. Going to watch again on the re- run channel it was so good. Others have mentioned the tension between Faison and Anna that at times has seemed more than the love/hate thing. Reminds me of years ago when Faison was holding Anna prisoner (I think) at Wyndemere. There seemed to be almost a seductive scene where he wanted to kiss Anna, and she almost seemed to want to respond. Don’t remember anymore. But it was obviously memorable. A good TV show asks us to accept a lot of things that wouldn’t happen in real life, because it’s just that, it’s not real life. I mean we have popular shows on these days that have zombies walking around eating people, and shows where people come back from the dead to solve crimes, and so on, and so forth. As awesome as he was in his scenes with Anna (and he WAS … they BOTH were), what I was giggling about was how he sang like a CANARY to Sam and Patrick! Kudos to Carlivati for continuing to propel the story forward. I feared, when we saw the Fluke double-switch, that he was just going to slowly drag this storyline out even further … but when Faison told Sam that Jason was alive … that it was VICTOR that set up the car accident … and that Patrick knew about Jason being at Crichton-Clark …. Oh, Patrick…how I see what you see!!!! Who, in the name of the sacred holy soaps, does Nicolas think he is with that sainted disposition of his? He must have known Willy Shakespeare in another life …methinks HENRY IV was based on Nicolas Cassadine. And, why does he run whining like a spoiled schoolboy to Liz each and every time? I do believe he can take life lessons from his 9-year old son…..later

Hi Patrick! I agree…I LOVED Nina and Franco and baby makes three! Each one…Nina and Franco…want so desperately to love and be loved…to be understood and accepted…they’re both sides of a coin together. Franco, or this incarnation of Franco (not Franco 1) is the saner of the two. He’d be a great dad. Nina too would obviously be full of love but she’s just too on the brink of madness to be trusted. Ava? It’s a shame that to reunite Ava and either Morgan and Sonny with their baby we have to lose the Nina/Franco/baby dynamic. I, too, love Anna… Read more »

Cailtin Reilly to Appear in General Hospital Tribute Episode to Her Father John Reilly

Tik Tok star, Cailtin Reilly, who is the daughter of the late soap veteran, John Reilly, will play a key role in the General Hospital tribute episode in her dad’s honor.

According to Variety who broke the casting news, Caitlin will portray Annie, formerly known as Anna, the daughter of her father’s character Sean Donely and Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt).

In a statement on her casting,  Caitlyn expressed: “Words can’t describe how honored I am to be playing my dad’s daughter on the show. I grew up on the set of ‘General Hospital,’ watching him work for years, so it’s exciting to dive into a new character in honor of him. He’ll absolutely be by my side in spirit on set rooting me on. It fills my heart with gratitude to be a part of this tribute to him, and to feel so close to him working on a show he loved so much doing.”

The character of Anna was last seen on-air back in August of 2013, when she was portrayed by Courtney Halverson. In story at that time, Sean was poisoned by polonium and he teamed up with Luke (Anthony Geary) to track down the man who extorted millions for the cure, while Anna repeatedly got in contact with that man to get the medicine her father so desperately needed.

John Reilly passed away back in January 2021.  The talented actor first appeared on GH back in 1984 and last appeared on the daytime drama series back in 2013.

Lynn Herring Celebrates 35th Anniversary of Her General Hospital Debut; and ‘We Love Lucy’

Today, April 11th marks the 35th anniversary of the debut of Lynn Herring on General Hospital as Lucy Coe.  And wow, when you look at the road this character has gone on played to the hilt by Herring, it has been one entertaining ride for GH fans along the way.

Lucy started out as a mousy librarian, if you can believe that! And of course, she eventually showed all that she was a bombshell.  She then became quite the schemer and seductress.

Along the way, Lucy was married to Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon), was involved with Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner), Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) and other men in Port Charles.

At one point, Herring took the character of Lucy to the now defunct Port Charles where she stayed from 1997-2003,

But this one time gold-digger eventually became the champion of the GH Nurses’ Ball and helped raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS research. Now, year after year, the one thing you can always look forward to is Herring’s hilarious antics and sincerity in her star turn as the emcee of the annual fundraising event.

On Sunday, the GH tweeted posted: “Lucy Coe knows everything about everyone in Port Charles and we would be lost without her. Please help us congratulate TheLynnHerring on the 35th Anniversary of her #GH debut”.

Lynn responded sharing: “Thank you! Have loved every @GeneralHospital  moment!”

GENERAL HOSPITAL: “I’m Alexis Davis, and I’m a Fighter, and an Idealist, and an Advocate”; Nancy Lee Grahn Gives Masterful Performance In Special Episode

When you combine superb direction, writing, production, and acting in a special episode of a daytime drama, viewers can see and understand the thought and care that went into it.

This was more than on display during Thursday’s highly-anticipated ‘Alexis-Centric’ episode honoring the 25th anniversary of Alexis’ portrayer, two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Nancy Lee Grahn, on General Hospital.

In the story, symbolism was apparent and used for dramatic impact and it worked beautifully throughout, and best of all, Nancy received a script worthy of her immeasurable talents, and showed us once again why she remains one of the gold standards of our genre.  If you have not seen the episode DO NOT read any further as it contains spoilers.

It begins with an emotional Alexis looking at her mother’s watch which was still frozen from the time of her death.  While playing one of her mother’s records very loudly, she recalls Mikkos Cassadine kissing and dancing with her mom as a young Alexis (Natasha) looked on from the staircase.  When Sam asks her about it, Alexis shares that she sees the watch as sort of a representation for her own life being frozen over the last three years; which has included Alexis’ battle with booze taking over her life and her being disbarred, when being a lawyer was the way she identified herself and what gave her purpose.

Overwhelmed and anxiety-ridden, Alexis hightails it to Kevin’s office for a therapy session knowing she is going to Pentonville in the morning to serve her sentence.  She says she does not know who she is anymore.  Then, Kevin asks her how she spent her day thus far.  She flashes back to lunch with the good men in her life, Finn, Valentin, Jax and Ned.  Valentin tells Alexis she is proud of her for honing up to her mistakes.

Back at the therapy session, Alexis she was an attorney who stood for something and her life has derailed, and that she was a fighter, an idealist, and an advocate.  She knows she has to find a purpose in prison to make it through the three-year term and asks Kevin to help her find one.

Kevin wants to go back to when she was a little girl and her memories that are flooding back to her of Mikkos and her mother.  Just then, the younger version of Alexis is huddled in the corner of Kevin’s office, an image of her from the past.  Alexis tries to come to terms with her father and the choice of dangerous men and relationships that have marred her own happiness  … recalling Julian holding a knife to her throat like Mikkos did to her mother. She says he was one of the toxic men in her life, but Kevin reminds her all of the men in her life were not toxic.

Alexis starts with Ned as one who was good for her saying he was always stable, but she ruined that by recently sleeping with him and putting a wedge in his marriage to her long-time friend, Olivia.

We then flashback to earlier in the day, where Alexis ends up in an almost confrontation with Olivia.  However, Olivia tells her she misses the Alexis Davis she used to be and to get her back.

Now back with Kevin, a guilt-ridden Alexis relays she feels responsible for Neil’s death.  Kevin interjects she is not, nor what happened with Julian.  When Kevin attempts to bring up Mikkos again, Alexis rejects it and is angry that he is making her problem about daddy issues; like so many other women.  She vehemently shouts that the men in her life do not define who she is.

Then, Alexis flashes back to hurtful memories she has buried of a young Natasha witnessing Mikkos calling her mother a “greedy little bitch”.  She recalls it was on Christmas Eve and that Mikkos stopped by to give them gifts. That is when he presented her mother with the watch.  However, things took an ugly turn when he tried to leave, and she threatened to tell Helena all about her and Natasha. Next, Mikkos slapped her and that is when the watch shattered. As all this was going down, a young Natasha watched from the stairs and was horrified that she couldn’t stop her father from beating her mother and remembers how helpless she felt.

However, Alexis reveals to Kevin she thought this would be the last of Mikkos coming by, but he returned on New Year’s Eve and her mother took him back into their lives.  Alexis is beside herself that she could not protect her mother, but Kevin reassures her to remember she was just a child.

It is then we come to the crux of the story.  Alexis looks over in the corner and sees her younger self crying. She goes to her younger self and tells her nothing that happened was her fault, and that their father was damaged and cruel. She tells the young Natasha this shouldn’t have been her burden to carry alone, and that she deserves to be happy. Then in the moment of strength and coming full circle, Alexis introduces herself to the young Natasha, “I’m Alexis Davis, a fighter, an advocate, and an idealist … and I will take care of everything from her on out.”  In that moment, Alexis embraced herself, and forgave herself, so she could move on with her life.

Alexis then flashes back to earlier that night, as the Davis girls gather for a faux graduation ceremony so Alexis could see Molly in her cap and gown and they hug. Back in her session, Kevin remarks that Alexis has repeatedly defined herself as a fighter, an idealist, and an advocate, and reminds her she has three daughters who have those qualities, and that all she needs to be is Alexis Davis.

Then, we get a heart-warming montage of Alexis though the years in honor of Nancy’s 25th anniversary with GH.

As the episode concludes, it is the next morning, and Alexis enters Pentonville and enters her jail cell. There she meets her fellow inmate, who is studying law books to prep for her upcoming parole hearing. Alexis introduces herself as “Alexis Davis” and as someone who can help her.  We then go back to her mother’s watch which now begins ticking at Alexis’ home.  The show fades to black.

Kudos to Daytime Emmy winner, Phideaux Xavier for his outstanding direction, head writers: Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor and script writer, Scott Sickles for the thoughtful episode, EP Frank Valentini and his production crew for putting it all together, and the one and only Nancy Lee Grahn for a performance that will be remembered as a classic.
