I watched Mary Martin as Peter Pan…has a male ever played the part in any of these musicals or stage shows…i know males played Peter in movie versions but i never seen one in these musical tv versions or on stage…there are male actors who can sing…just curious!!!

forgot: it is nice to see MPs on tv again…i miss ATWTs but was mad how they underused a legend like Eileen Fulton in those final years…she shouldve been more like that late Jeanne Coopers Katherine…thats how she shouldve been written in those final years and worked with Maura Wests Carly who could been like Katherines Jill…

That would have been good. Eilleen Fulton wanted a real storyline in those final years of ATWT and to not just appear a couple times a year. I attended her cabaret show in NYC during the last fan club weekend. She is a legend and her show was excellent.

Kathryn Hays was on a bit more, but I would have preferred a major storyline, as well as more appearances for Marie Masters. I also read that Helen Wagner wanted to be on more. I loved seeing these elegant ladies.

TPTB on As the World Turns never seemed to accept, in the last 10 to 15 years the show was on, that their most powerful assets were the older actors and actresses. With very few exceptions, they never succeeded in casting young actors/actresses who could carry the kinds of storylines that might actually sustain some viewer interest. They had the good sense to give Maura West and Michael Park heavy storylines, and they did use Colleen Zenk quite a bit (though not terribly effectively, in my opinion), but if they were smart, they would have found better ways to use Fulton, Hays, Hubbard, Wagner, Masters, and Hastings (as well as Ellen Dolan and Scott Holmes) while cultivating a group of younger actors who could actually handle substantive storylines. And maybe Larry Bryggman would have stuck around if he’d felt he was being given more to do. (Of course, the perfectly dreadful writing toward the end didn’t help, but the veterans might have been able to make more out of it.)

They need the character of Peter to look like a boy. That’s why men don’t play the role and boys probably won’t have the vocal range and they would be minors, which have other complications.

The other reason for having a woman play the role is that if you were to get a boy, unlike Pan, the boy will grow up and if the show is on tour or Broadway, etc., Pan would have to be replaced a la Annie. So multiple reasons to have a woman play the role.

That said, I think many of the Lost Boys were far too old and muscular to be Lost Boys. I was surprised they didn’t have actual boys playing the roles, especially since it was just a one night performance.

I’ll be watching! I saw Sandy Duncan as Peter at the Kennedy Center ages ago.

I will definitely be watching. I love live theater and especially musicals so once again to have a “Broadway” type production brought live into my home and free is fantastic. As a major, major fan of Michael Park and not having had the chance yet to see him live on stage, I am ecstatic. His part in Sound of Music was too small last year but we should see much more of him singing and dancing, what he loves to do!

I love Michael Park, he is a wonderful actor. I want Michael to come back in daytime. Cast him as the new Bo Brady on Days Of Our Lives.

You know, that’s actually a very good idea, Sean. I would not have immediately thought of MP as a recast for Bo, but he’s one of the few actors who might actually be able to make it work. He’s physically similar to Peter Reckell (though I think he’s a bit younger than PR), and he certainly both is a good enough actor and has a strong enough screen “presence” to work opposite someone like Kristian Alfonso. If Reckell really is adamant about not coming back, and Robert Kelker Kelly isn’t interested (or there are backstage reasons for not having him back), then I think MP would be an excellent choice.

I was right. Reckell is 59 (and looking damn good for nearly 60, the last time I saw him), KA is 51, and Michael Park is 46. (RKK is 50.)

I love Michael Park, a terrific actor and cute too lol

Cananadaigua Loves our Michael Park! We’re all watching tonight!!!

Thought that was Michael Park..he was so good a lot of talent!

Loved seeing Michael Park tonight on Peter Pan. No amount of make-up can conceal his eyes. Hope to see you in the next live
presentation…3 in a row. Great job, Michael.
BTW, I’m furious that his name wasn’t in the credits!

A 30 year fan of ATWT.

his name was in the credits at the beginning. thats how i knew he was in it.

I watched Peter Pan Live tonight on NBC and enjoyed it! I thought Allyson Williams was great. She has a beautiful voice and a lot of confidence and did the flying scenes superbly. She was so natural. I hope NBC continues the practice of a Live Classic Musical every year around the holidays. It is so refreshing to see an honest, refreshing show on TV without sex, drugs, and rock and roll! Good for NBC and good for the talented actors.

I agree with you but it should be without sex, drugs, swear words and gorey violence…i love rock and roll…lol…i wish theyd do a musical Christmas Story next year!!!

He was basically in the background. I thought the production was a bit slow, but that’s the story. Christopher Walken was not a good Hook. Taped the last hour because I was falling asleep and had to get up early today.

I agree with jihm’s reply about a show without swear words and gorey violence. I love rock and roll, too. My favorite song is “I love that old time Rock and Roll…That kind of music just soothes my soul….” and on. Peter Pan Live was refreshing. Something you could watch from beginning to end. No need to walk away from any of the scenes. I look forward to next year’s show.
