Casting news shares that General Hospital is bringing two new recurring characters to the canvas starting next week.

First, actress Kody Kavitha has as been cast in the role of Hunter. The character will be the new manager at Bobbie’s.

Look for Kody to first pop-up on your screens in the April 4th episode of the ABC daytime drama series, Previously, Kavitha has appeared on S.W.A.T. in addition to being a voice-over artist.

In addition, Nina (Cynthia Watros) is getting a new assistant, who just might cause some trouble of her own, when Virginia Ma comes to GH.

Virginia will take on the role of Madison. Ma’s previous credits include: Magnum P.I. and The Thundermans to name but a few.

With new head writers Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte steering the scribe team at GH now, look for continued changes and evolutions with the current canvas, and where certain stories may be headed, that perhaps, were not headed before.

Soap Opera Digest first reported the casting.

So, looking forward to seeing Kody and Virginia on GH? Comment below.

Time may be coming when I close the door to General Hospital. If they wanted to bring on all new characters, they should have started a new soap. Seems like their goal is purely diversity; and to hell with the vets, the legacy characters, etc. Starting with the reason Kevin gave for Marshall being diagnosed, race, all those years ago, the “writing” is on the wall.

You do understand this is so that Carly doesn’t have to be at Bobbies? Lol… and Nina needs a friend because people don’t like her right now. Everybody needs a friend. And if everyone in town is acting like they won’t talk to her. She can pay someone to do that. If a character is in town, they can be featured and have co-workers/ friends as well. Contract players take away from our vets to recurring characters. Do not take away from anything. They just add to the show.

Looks like you have a serious problem with diversity period. This isn’t 1960 anymore. How dare fans want to relate to people that look like them!

So true! Bet I can guess who they’ll vote for, lololol! It’s my superpower!

I’m afraid your superpower is a tad off. I’m a Dem; not a progressive. BIG difference. And I’be been watching the vile hatred of Jews and Israel from progressives for years. It’s ignorance personified fueled by the lies of BLM that Israel is “white colonizer” against the brown Palestinians. So you can chuckle your ass off while I speak the truth.

It ain’t the progressives who screwed over the Jewish presidential candidate in 2016 and 2020. I’m in Hell, not the US, but I think your country would be 666% much better off if y’all were in the 8th year of a Bernie Sanders presidency right now. Best candidate I’ve seen since FDR. It’s a damn shame the corporate “Democrats” stabbed him in the back.

Bernie is way too progressive for me. Standing next to Jew haters doesn’t really do it for me.

Don’t lecture me on diversity. I’m still waiting for one Jewish character. Let me know when GH has one in the midst of all this “diversity.” A Jewish person who is not stereotypical Bernie the accountant from years ago. Let me know when Matt Cohen plays a Jewish character instead of a priest, or Rena Sofar and Amanda Setton play Jewish characters instead of Italian Catholics.

GH didn’t need diversity. We’re invested in legacy characters and families who many of us have watched for decades, regardless of our own backgrounds. But now there’s a push; a checking off of boxes and that takes away from the core characters; many who have been given the boot and/or put on the back burner. And there’s an agenda; a push for POC which is glaring. Trina, Portia, Jordan, Stella, Marshall, TJ, Curtis, Brick, Phyllis, Lenny, Felix, Trish, Epiphany; all great characters past and present but the fact is that was the sole diversity that GH decided to push. Recently, they added Terry, a trans character, went forward with gay characters and ONE Asian character (seems we swapped Brad for Mrs. Wu) and now we have Blaze & her mom filling in the gap for Sabrina and Carlos. And now we have an Indian woman and another Asian woman. It IS ticking off boxes. There’s nothing wrong with that intrinsically; but they’re not the legacy characters or from legacy families which the show is moving away from.

If that’s the direction you want for GH, then their new business plan is working. Me? I’d rather stick with over-the-top soap genre stories rather than social justice ones, with multi-generations of the core families I’ve tuned in to watch for decades. And though those characters didn’t “represent” me, it didn’t matter.

But since that’s not the way GH decided to go, yeah, I’m going to resent each new person of color they bring on until and if they EVER decide to “represent” Jewish people too. Having a cast with Jewish actors but not willing to create even ONE Jewish “white” character who is not stereotyped at Bernie the accountant speaks volumes.

While I understand that Jewish representation remains a cause important to you, it’s still not a case of different ethnicities taking the place of Jewish characters.

You made me do some research. The % of the total US population who are Black is around 14%. More than 7% of American adults identify as LGBT+. Both are significantly larger than the 2.4% who are Jewish. Does that mean we shouldn’t have Jewish representation- of course not- but it does give a demographic explanation for why we see certain groups in more prominent roles in daytime.

There are zero Jewish characters. And there are many Jewish actors, writers, and we freaking invented Hollywood lol! And since antisemitism is rampant, with useful idiots from all backgrounds spewing it and siding with terrorists they call “freedom fighters,” I think it’s more important than ever to have likeable, attractive, Jewish characters on ALL shows & films as much as any other minority. That demographic while small is probably bigger; secular Jews who didn’t check the box, interfaith couples with Jewish children, Jews of color, etc. Point is, Jewish presence in America and in the creation of shows is huge; to glaringly not right even one character is disgusting. And for me, let me continue being honest here: there is a LOT of antisemitism in the black community. A LOT. And if a “white’ Jewish person brings up the lack of a Jewish character, I personally have had a nasty reply from some black people; “You’re white. You’re represented.” Amazing to me that a people who rebelled against bigotry toward their own group can be so callous when it comes to Jews; who by the way marched for them. One of the biggest issues neo Nazis have with Jews, their chants of “Jews Shall Not Replace Us’ is that they think Jews are bringing POC into the United States to replace them! If it wasn’t so pathetic it’d be hilarious. So we’re hated no the right and the left, and we can’t even get a freaking Jewish character on a soap but are supposed to jump up and down for joy when more and more black people are brought on? Not me; not happening. Unfortunately there are still some progressive Jews who are so busy marching for others they wouldn’t see antisemitism if it smacked them in the face. Time they woke up.

Ugg; sorry. As I’ve said somewhere else it doesn’t seem possible to edit these comments so let me clarify when I said “Jewish presence is huge.” What I mean by that is Jews have created many popular shows and films. We’ve written them, acted in them. To not write FOR a Jewish character is a slap in the face. I’ll give you another example of what’s happening in the industry today. Jews were hit up for huge donations to the Academy Museum; some recently built museum about Hollywood. Millions of dollars were put into it by Jewish people, and what did the museum do? It left out Jews from the exhibits! It didn’t mention the creation of Hollywood or the Jewish founders; it instead focused on films by POC! There was outrage in the Jewish community, and they stammered with some BS and supposedly are or will do a permanent exhibit about Hollywoods beginnings. But THAT’S how bad it’s gotten for Jewish people. And I’m freaking sick of it. I don’t care how many people have the nerve to call me “racist.” I think it’s very telling that not one person chimed in to agree with me and see my point of view. If a black person was pissed because there was an ever-growing Jewish presence on the show? There’s be many people agreeing. No doubt.

I’ve been to the Academy museum a few times. There’s no mention of any religion – and yes, the Warners, Goldwyn, Mayer and other founders were all Jewish. The stronghold of the Catholic league on the Hayes Code up into the 60s isn’t discussed either. So, all religion is treated equally there (not mentioned at all).

Making generalizations about one community is not the best approach when you wouldn’t want that done to your particular community.

Black people are Americans and were slaves in THIS country. Y’all are 2% percent of the population AND immigrants. Amanda Setton, Rena Sofer and Nancy Lee Grahn are ALL Jewish and have bigger roles than ALL the black characters on the show! Y’all don’t have to play Jewish characters!! Get over yourself!!

I know that American black people are Americans. What are you implying? That Jewish people aren’t?

Yes I am.

Then you’re more stupid than I thought; and I really didn’t think you COULD be more stupid!

I agree w you… and it is crazy cuz i came here to comment about general hospital but for years I have commented that they never had Jewish characters… on a side note… can you name the American hostages in Gaza? And have you noticed no one comments on Egypt having a border w Gaza too? Or anyone asking Russia to give humanitarian aide to Ukraine???
8 million people in Sudan starving … but gh… the topic here is supposed to be fun … please be kind to one another

One more thing Steve. What percentage of the population is transgender? What percentage is native American? Less than the percentage of Jews and yet we now have both represented on the show.

Good grief, Rebecca1, the Marshall diagnosis was a one-episode issue and it was poignant and timely. These are 2 recurring characters that exist solely to help contract players with story. Who is bringing on “all new characters”? Since the new writers started, they have added John/Jagger. That’s it until these two, who are an assistant and a diner manager. Neither feel like they are going to be front burner roles. And there’s nothing wrong with adding a tad more diversity to a show that’s overwhelmingly white. Saying the goal is “purely diversity” is pretty insulting, though. For all you know, these two women gave the strongest auditions. They certainly appear beautiful enough for a soap. Let’s give them a chance.

Who cares what ethnicity anybody is, or their color. I only care that I don’t want Britt back, and gay scenes sicken me.

So, you are prejudice against gay people? They are no different than any other human being. They deserve to be respected – just as people of color do.

And what about Jewish people?

While you try to come off as supportive, your last sentence shows you are likely more ignorant than Rebecca.

This isn’t the 1950s – LGBT people are not going away nor back into the closet.

Uhhh; I’m not “ignorant,” LOL!!! However, notice how defensive you got when someone made a comment you didn’t like about LGBTQ people; yet when I feel the same way about Jewish people I’m attacked, called racist and now “ignorant?” How about putting yourself in another person’s shoes; not just the ones the progressives approve of.

Good grief yourself. I’ll say what I say every freaking time. There is not ONE Jewish character on the show, but we now have ten or more black characters, a trans character, gay characters, Asian characters, now an Indian character, and cumulatively many POC. I don’t think soaps have to “reflect diversity,” the genre is about legacy families and characters that many of us have watched for decades; the multi-generational stories of these families which has always been the soap formula.

However, since they have decided to expand the Port Charles universe, the push has solely been o POC, and while the vets either die, retire, get fired or pushed to the back burner, the show finds every way imaginable to bring in POC, whether it’s a day player or a new character. So, yes, it bothers me. I’d rather see more of the vets: I’d rather they resurrect AJ and bring back Dillon, Lucky, Lulu, Nikolas, give Ned more story, But they won’t; they won’t. So if that’s the case, I want not one Jewish character, but a Jewish family. Did I “need” a Jewish family on GH before the push for diversity? No. I love the legacy families/characters & the Port Charles universe I’ve been watching for years. I accepted that this was the “town” and the circle of characters & didn’t really think about it one way or the other. But since the show decided to go with diversity, then the glaring absence of Jewish characters is just that: glaring. And I don’t want to be reminded that back in the day there was the cute Jewish doc Jake, or the stereotyped Bernie the accountant. Two freaking characters in sixty years? Who, by the way, haven’t been on in years? And Bernie the stereotype? (Not to mention that Hayden’s adoptive father, who we met for fives seconds, was implied to be Jewish and was in jail for a Ponzi scheme. Are they out of their freaking minds writing that shite? What other group would put up with that disgusting, bigoted, crap?!)

I said what I said and it’s how I feel. Understand it or scroll by.

Slight correction….

Jake Meyer was a Jewish lawyer, not a Jewish doctor. And fuzzy Devil memory isn’t recalling all of the details, but while I don’t remember him being overly religious really, they did bring up the issue in the context of Bobbie Spencer considering converting to Judaism when they were getting married.

I thought Jake was a a great character and wish they had kept him around. Surprised they didn’t bring him back for at least a day or two when they recently did the Bobbie tribute episodes, actually.

It is kinda weird that they have had many Jewish actors playing Italians on this show, now that you mention it. Or a Scottish dude, in Matt Cohen’s case.

Thanks; I don’t know why I remembered Jake as a doctor. It’s coming back to me now…

Do you know how many Jewish actors have been on GH? This may be redundant times ten because I’ve mentioned it before: but Stuart Damon played Alan Quartermaine, Sean Kanan played AJ, the aforementioned Matt Cohen as Griffin, Rena Sofar as Lois, Amanda Setton as Brook Lynn, Tamara Braun as the second Carly and then Kim, Brandon Barash as Johnny Zaccaria, Bruce Weitz as Anthony Zaccaria, Sarah Joy Brown as Claudia Zaccaria, etc, etc. And while they were all great in their roles, it’s telling that in all these years when they bring on a Jewish actor they can’t create a Jewish character for him or her. Griffin could have had a Jewish mother and still have been Duke’s son instead of a doctor/priest.

And I pointed this out already (I’m starting to think I’m the only one who noticed this, but when Hayden found out she was adopted and was upset because she was close to her father (who she found out wasn’t her biological father) for some reason the writers decided to make him Jewish, and put him in jail for a Bernie Madoff-type ponzi scheme. I’m surprised the steam that started emanating off of me didn’t burn down my TV. They made for the most part a non-existent character, who was seen for all of five minutes in a jail scene, Jewish and then had to write that he was in it for a ponzi scheme. How antisemitic or ignorant do you have to be to have ZERO Jewish characters, and then out of the blue decide to say that Hayden’s adoptive father was in jail for a ponzi scheme! The utter antisemitism in that is off the charts. (Far be it for me to point out that the ponzi scheme was named after an Italian Catholic by the name of Ponzi, but I digress.

So as the show runs over itself to hire as many people of diverse backgrounds as they can, I’m over here pissed outta my mind.

Maybe they didn’t put a lot of thought into the thing with Hayden’s father, but the whole thing was a ReRon story, so that’s not all that shocking. I don’t think it was so much as an intentional Jewish stereotype as it was a deliberate copy of the Bernie Madoff story, and of course Madoff was a Jewish criminal whose victims were also Jewish. The whole thing was admittedly a clumsy plot device to explain how Hayden became such a con artist herself.

And then of course, they threw it all away so they could make her Jeff Webber’s daughter.

I really do think the Zaccaras should have been a Jewish mob family though. They hired three Jewish actors all at the same time to play this family. Ironic that guys named Valentini & Carlivati would want to stick to the Italian mafia family stereotypes. Guess they never heard of Meyer Lansky or Bugsy Siegel? On the other horn, Sonny Corinthos had a Latina mother and an Irish/Greek father, but everybody thinks he’s Italian because he makes the best Marinara sauce in town.

Don’t forget Jake Meyer played by Sam Behrens. Both the actor and character are/were Jewish. Jake had a lead role. There has NEVER been a lead role for a black male character. Justus Ward and now Curtis are close but they still are not leads!!

As far as Marshall’s diagnosis, we didn’t need that explanation. It was just a bit of social justice lecturing thrown into a soap; the same way they made Esme going after Trina a race thing. They could have made Marshall’s misdiagnosis a story; not a history lesson. He could have been a witness to things he wasn’t supposed to see, and the misdiagnosis was a way of keeping him quiet; making him think it was all in his head. I was waiting for a story to evolve from the start because I never believed he was bipolar. Instead, we got the race explanation. HOW is that interesting in terms of story? All it was was a statement. Esme? There was nothing to indicate she targeted Trina because she was black; the entire story was of a screwed up girl out for revenge. A story of jealous, insecurity, a messed up mind. But, nope, it suddenly was because Trina was black. Oh, let’s not forget the explanation for Sean’s incarceration as they threw out the actual story; that he chose to stay in prison rather than fight for his freedom because even though he wasn’t the one who shot Hayden, he was there to take out Drew. But nope, once again they had to change it to he was in there because he was black. If YOU want those kinds of stories on GH, then you’re in luck. I want soapy drama which takes me into a fictional world with fictional soap problems. But again, if they feel a new to write about racial justice, then let’s get real busy on the huge problem of antisemitism. Want that in your soaps too? Me? I have no patience to constantly hear about racism while antisemitism is soaring and ignored.

Edit: I meant to say I knew Marshall wasn’t schizophrenic; not bipolar.

You’ll save us all from reading your rants if you stop watching.

No one’s forcing you to read my “rants.” Learn to scroll.

Come on Rebbeca1.. if you didn’t want to be in the spotlight with your rants…you wouldn’t post them… bask in your limelight.. own it with all the glory it gives you.

You sound bright, lol. Time to change the bulb.

But the newcomers will be tied in with the vets. I think it could be interesting.

Hi Harry; I’ve written a few comments. Please read them to understand my view. Hope all’s well.

That was a beautiful episode. I’ve been looking at GH since I’m a kid and it was not reflecting the world we all live in.

Neither does it reflect a town in NY and a hospital that with not ONE Jewish character. And if you’re referring to the episode where Kevein tells Marcus that the was misdiagnosed because he was black, that was not a “beautiful” episode to me. It was once again injecting race and social justice into a soap; I get that on CNN and MSNBC 24/7, on social media and everywhere else. Time for a break. The world doesn’t revolve around black issues; there are plenty of minorities who experience bigotry Jews being a very targeted group. I wonder how many of you would be engaged if they did stories on antisemitism IF they ever had a Jewish character.

Marshall not Marcus.

As I go through life, I meet new people of all sorts all the time. That’s the way life is supposed to work.

I stopped watching GH last year – for no other reason than it sucks, and I got tired of the iCarly show.

It’s obvious what you’re upset about. The only thing missing was the obligatory “I’m not racist but…” precursor.

Exactly.

I like that you stopped watching GH yet still read this site and post comments…even you do claim to watch it anymore.

*not to watch it anymore.

Great assumption. Now stop judging and read my comments on this page so you can learn to not size someone up before reading their point of view. And I’ll add, (and this may come off racist to you too; I don’t care). If there were about 10 to 15 Jewish characters on the show, and not one black character, and black viewers expressed their annoyance, would you call them antisemitic? Yeah; thought not.

Perhaps your posts should be on a different platform?

Not at all. This is the perfect place to voice my disgust that there are no Jewish characters on GH, while they keep bringing on every other minority to walk the earth. Where else would I state that? On a site about the economy?

Whine, whine, whine!!!

Coming from a black guy, an ignorant fool who doesn’t know that Jewish people are American, is classic. I guess Farakkhan left that out when he was indoctrinating your hate. BHI much? Kanye much? LOL. GTFOH

Oh you’re American but not as American as we are. Are you aware when the slave ships arrived? The show will implement Jewish characters someday. Wait your turn and be patient.

Oh and one more thing: it was a Jewish woman who invented the soap opera genre.

I think the other writers messed up Marshal’s character and they let the story drag for too long… first he came to town like a tough guy then they made him schizophrenic… then they gave him a good story w the incredible Sonya Eddy and she died. So they were left w that and had to explain why he was misdiagnosed

I’m torn about how I feel with two new characters. On the plus side, they’re non-white, which I hope makes more fans feel represented and the characters present more story possibilities.

On the other hand, I wonder if any of the gazillion other recurring characters might have taken on the positions these characters will fulfill; thus, giving already familiar faces more airtime instead of continuing to bloat an over-sized cast.

I’d like to see more of Olivia, Terry and Yuri, Lois, Amy and Deanna, Felix and Obrecht for Pete’s sake!

I appreciate the improved stories, thus far, so I’m trusting the writers to make this work.

Agree!

Neither of these new characters seem like major story participants. They’ll be another Deanna, Trish (the MC restaurant hostess) or Frank (Sonny’s main henchman). Fill occupational positions with “under 5” dialogue.

Oh, Whoopi, can’t wait!

Everyone just wants to complain. Manager at Bobbie’s? You think that’s going to be a meaty role? And Nina’s assistant if she’s scheming, she’s probably short term. Calm down…

Far be it from a Devil to jump to any premature conclusions, but since the Asian community in Port Charles has never been very large, I’m predicting the Madison character might be a relative of Selina Wu, and will be “strategically placed” in Nina’s orbit so Selina might have an “insider” with both the local media publisher, as well as (theoretically) the inner circle of Corinthos Coffee, LLC. Even though Nina’s not really there anymore (and hopefully will not be again)

Hopefully, when Alexis gets her law degree back we won’t see the Invader again or the cheesy publisher that will probably use it for her own purposes. Can you imagine leaking stuff about Sonny’s business, thinking she’s helping him? Between not getting his proper meds and Nina’s meddling, he’ll have a coronary!

Where is Brad ? I would much rather he be given a story again.

Agree; love Brad. And they indicated that when Britt passed, he and Maxi would become close. That never happened, nor did his role in Selina’s organization which she seemed to be forcing Brad to join. They just dropped Parry.

Beautiful women.

Aha…a new love interest for Jason since he will be living above Bobbie’s !! Yay!!

Welcome to both of the newcomers!

Way too young for Jason.

If they’re over 21, they’re not too young.

Too young. I’m sticking with that. Do people in real life marry or date people decades apart? Yes. On GH? I don’t see 50-something-year-old Jason with a woman Michael’s age.

Never happen, evidently you don’t know Jason.

Seriously gh we need male stars. Enough female. Let’s get some guys and put them with females. Maxie can use someone other than spinelli not a match. No chemistry there. Jordan needs someone please. New guy for Anna.

You must be a relatively new viewer. Maxi and Spinelli were one of THE most adorable, meant-for-each other couples on GH. I’ve waited a long time to see these two get back together. They have history, deep friendship, they know each other better than anyone and they love each other. The chemistry, the romance, is still there. I hope the writers don’t mess with them.

I agree with the Maxie/Spinneli relationship. Please find a hunk for Jordan.

It looked like they were testing out a Jordan/Drew match. Or, maybe they’ll bring back Portia’s brother.

Hey! We agree, for a change. If you celebrate, hope you have/had a lovely Easter.

Hi Violet. No, I don’t celebrate Easter but I hope you enjoyed yours. Thank you for the thought though. And, we may agree on GH more than you think, it’s just that the times when viewers don’t it creates the most “discussion.” 😉

Concur 100%!!

I’d give you a “like” but we don’t have those lil emoji options here. Agreeing is always welcome. 😉

Agree about needing more men onscreen but disagree about Maxie and Spinelli. They have been a couple on and off for as long as I can remember. They have a different kind of chemistry. The sexual tension is not as strong as it is between Cody and Sasha because they have had a child together and are like an old married couple.

Maybe I’m biased but they look nothing like the type Jason would be interested in. So one will be working at Bobbie’s and the other an assistant to Nina which will be like night and day, hope she gives Nina a run for her money.

I’m though with General Hospital, just like the rest of television nothing good on anymore the writing sucks for of television

They could always bring back Jason’s first girlfriend, Keisha Ward, though they probably wouldn’t do that now, due to the some of the Wards being re-written as Quartermaine cousins. Keisha was from a different branch of the family tree, so she and Jason never did anything “incestuous”, but still might seem a little weird if she came back and they started talking about Justus… who would be a cousin to both of them.

On the other horn, this is the show that hooked up Dante & Sam… even though they have two siblings in common, from two different sets of parents!

more DEI hires — stick with the characters who made the show great. I’m tired of the sidekicks who steal time away from the main characters.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
