General Hospital’s Cynthia Watros Shares: “I Know That Nina is Not Easy to Love, But She is Lovable!”
Daytime Emmy winner, Cynthia Watros (Nina, General Hospital) did a little video check in with the fans and her followers amid Nina’s latest fall from grace, after it had been revealed that Nina turned Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) into the SEC.
With Carly and Drew taking over Crimson, Nina out of a job, and her relationship on the skids with Sonny (Maurice Benard) and her daughter, Willow, (Katelyn MacMullen) it will be interesting to see how Nina seeks revenge this time on Carly and Drew, and how she will make amends to those she wants to love her.
In her video message, after asking the fans how everyone is doing, Watros expressed: “Nina has been on some ride these, what, two weeks. Thank you for all your love and support.”

Photo: ABC
Watros then referenced and showed the beautiful floral arrangement behind her, which was sent by a group of fans. She left them know how much she appreciated the sentiment, sharing: “You always make me feel like a million bucks and truly loved, and just thank you for being bright lights in my life.”
Lastly, Cynthia addressed her storyline adding, “I wanna say that it’s been a bumpy ride for Nina, but all of you that have supported and loved Nina and me. Thank you.”
She concluded with, “And those of you that are just outraged, thank you! I know that Nina is not easy to love, but she is lovable!” Watros finished the video wishing everyone well.
Check out Cynthia’s video message below. Then weigh-in, what do you hope happens next for, or to, Nina? Do you want her to get payback? Do you think she deserves more heartbreak and suffering for what she has done to several people in Port Charles? Is NonaLet us know in the comment section.

What a class act! She hit it on the head about Nina not being easy to love, but loveable.
Hopefully the outgoing writers remembered that and put her in some scenes with Maxie or Aunt Liesl to show she has a support network.
I hope the new writers also veer away from the writing template that dictates that Carly must win and Nina must lose. That scene at Crimson was ridiculous as Drew and Carly looked like utter fools. Carly struts in wearing a noxious smirk and a tacky number, and all I could think was,” The Devil Wears Pleather”? Team Nina is trending in Twitter due to Cynthia being able to rise above the lousy writing with her nuanced and brilliant acting.
I nominate myself as team captain on “TEAM NINA!!!!” (; I do hope the new writers understand how much so many of us love her and I know for myself I feel protective of her and that is due to how brilliant Cynthia is in the role! (: (: (:
I am so excited about the emergence of cray-cray Nina who has been pushed too far and has nothing to lose. We haven’t seen her go full tilt coo-coo since she (played by Michelle Stafford) was going to cut Avery out of Ava’s uterus and ultimately stole the baby and ran to Canada with Franco. Cynthia Watros knows how to play soap opera crazy, and I have been waiting for it it. Her portrayal of Annie Dutton on GL was very entertaining for many years!
I definitely saw Annie Dutton (GL) in the restroom mirror…
Hoping that Cynthia gets a chance to go full on cray-cray, but then finds her way back to some element of normalcy.
Will be interesting to see where her character goes with the new writing team.
Cynthia is a fantastic actor and GH has gold with her on their cast.
I agree with this 100%! I posted just this on goldderby the other day after the mirror scene – that was crazy Annie Dutton I was seeing in that mirror!
She is showing signs of crazy Annie Dutton emerging for Nina – I would be aboard for it if they wouldn’t make Carly into Reva and they would allow Nina to win instead of Carly but this show is obsessed with pretending that Carly is the “good one” and the one we should root for – I simply can’t stand Carly and love Nina the most of any character on daytime!
Freeman, I agree with you. The Carly propping is intolerable. She makes these grandiose speeches about how great she is while her adoring followers now down at her feet. But her actions strike a startling disparity with reality. Carly is a hypocritical, smug jerk.
There was no knife involved in the birth of Avery. Nina did not cut the baby out of the womb. That is a myth that won’t go away. Garbage in, garbage out.
Nina was never going to “cut Avery out of Ava’s uterus.” Nina had a breakdown after the trauma of being in that 20-year-coma, the reality of being a 40-something woman instead of in her 20s when she was last conscious, her husband dating Sam, her baby she was told dead. She snapped, and targeted Ava because she had a daughter with Silas: Kiki, and now was pregnant again. Nina just slowly went to the edge, and we saw that when Avery was finally born and she felt she belonged to her. But Nina wasn’t “cutting” anything out of Ava; she induced Ava’s labor with a drug she injected.
I have no desire to see Nina fall back to that stage of her life. That would mean not only did Carly win over her time and time again, but she succeeded in causing Nina to fall back to those days.
Carly has wronged Nina time and time again. Many have: from her mother to Harmony to Valentin and Sasha, to Carly trying to keep her from ever knowing that Wiley is her grandson and Willow her daughter. It’s Carly’s who’s malicious and vindictive, and unfortunately all the writing teams keep giving Carly a pass, keep giving her a supportive, loving, group around her, while Nina has basically stood alone while Sonny, while claiming to love her showed no rage to Carly for what she did to Nina (even when to Willow and Michael’s wedding without her), Sasha, who claims to love Nina as if she truly was her mother, was as friendly as ever to Carly even though she knew that Carly had tried to prevent Nina from knowing about Willow. Same with Maxi, Nina’s sister-in-law and aunt to James. The character Nina has had to face the wrath or the disloyalty of many while Carly basks in love and family no matter the rotten things she does.
I’m only looking forward to Nina’s “revenge” if she does so while maintaining her mental stability and beats Carly and Drew at their own game. Let her start her own magazine, bring Crimson down, and FINALLY gain the love of her daughter, because Willow’s constant rejection makes absolutely no sense and is obnoxious to watch.
You said it for me, Rebecca! Nina did not plan on cutting a baby out of anyone’s womb. D she did NOT give Avery away to be raised by Bigfoot either. I swear, the myths attached to this character are through the roof.
Hi Harry; long time! I know; the same stuff keeps getting repeated about Nina over and over again. And let’s not forget how the Nina “haters” keep obsessing back to when Nina was, in their words, “mean to Willow” when she was Charlotte’s teacher, lol. As IF that’s a valid reason for Carly to keep the truth from Nina, which is only topped by the brilliant, “Carly was keeping her word to Harmony. Ya; keeping her word to a murderer; who drugged Willow so that Shiloh could rape her, killed Neal in his sleep while lying next to Alexis, killed his brother, stuffed Carly in the trunk (THAT part I applauded) and was planning to kill her and Alexis, is admirable to them. The Nina haters are praising Carly for keeping her word to Harmony, who warned that Nina would “smother Willow with LOVE.” The writing is stupid; and some of the viewers reactions…well, ummmmm…’nuff said.
It’s been very hard to support Nina with all the bad decisions she has made starting with Valentin and that brat Charlotte which she gave Willow a hard time in school when she acted the monster kid to her own cousin. Her loyalties have always been on the wrong side , there being only one side, hers.. I’m not a Carly fan, but she is at least not sneaky, always lurking around ,seeing what she can find out about someone to use to her advantage. Snoopy woman and that makes her loveable?, ha, ha.
Carly not sneaky? For an entire year she kept the identity of Willow’s biological mother secret and that included repeatedly blackmailing a woman to lie to her idiotic boyfriend Drewfus. She also ordered an unauthorized DNA test and kept the results secret. And Michael, Willow and Sonny were a tad bit irritated with her for two minutes. Can you imagine the hell storm that would have rained down upon Nina had she done the same thing? No. There is a different code of conduct for this Carly- centric show. Nina is Charlie Brown trying to kick the football while Carly is Lucy whipping it away.
I’m sorry that CW is portraying a character everyone hates because she is a very gifted actress
Extremely talented! Side note, I actually like Nina. Watros makes likeablr for me. I cannot help but feel for her. I hope Emmy finds her eventually like it did on Guiding Light! Also she most definitely is a class act.
Everyone does not hate Nina. There are many of us who love Nina and detest Carly. I’m one of them and you can see from this page there are others.
Nina has done things that made me realize that she is her own worst enemy and I have groaned at some of the things she’s pulled but I do like the character all the same. Without characters like Nina, the soaps would be boring.
Totally agree. It’s a testament to Cynthia Watros’s talent that she’s made this character likeable (or her motivation relatable) because Nina could so easily be a one dimensional Disney villain if played by a lesser actor. There are many excellent actors at GH & Watros is one of the best. Glad Nina is going to lose her sh** now!
I wonder if the constant berating of her character by Carly is starting to get to her as an actress.
Cynthia is a wonderful actress who could run circles around laura wright if given the chance. Hopefully with the huge changes afoot at GH we will finally be able to see Cynthia as she should!!
Mr Fairman, perhaps you could do an interview with Laura Wright and Cythnia Watros.
They both were on The Talk’s soap episode last summer and stated they are personal friends outside of the show. Many comments seem to mix her real life with the character she plays.
complex character, and she plays her her to the hilt
Nina is a great actress, but I want Sonny and Carly Together again! They are the Best!!!
Cynthia Watros is a very good actor, but I can’t stand Nina. She’s doing her job if she makes you love the character and can hate her actions.
I don’t hate Nina’s actions. What has she done that wasn’t a direct result for what Carly has done to HER? Why would you hate what Nina’s done? It’s Carly who’s despicable and keeps getting away with her despicable actions. The only thing I was upset about was that Nina didn’t announce to all of them that she called the SEC. Carly and Drew deserved it, and she should have stated it proudly. FINALLY able to get them back for what Carly did to her with Nelle, Wiley, and Willow, and Drew for being okay with it all once he found out and having the nerve to lecture Nina on how to be a good parent; the man who just chose Carly over his own daughter, and who showed Nina not one ounce of compassion when she was cut out of her dying daughter’s life, even though he went through a similar thing with Oscar. Both Carly and Drew are vile. The shame is Billy Miller’s Drew was the exact opposite and these writers ruined the character just to have him date Carly.
You are truly a Nina fan. It will.be interesting to see where the new writers take things.
Carly is dirty–she schemed, lied, deceived kept Nina’s children from her, recalling back in time–
Carly kept Michale from his father and took Michale’s heritage, bringing a Q, away from him and as always she had someone else (Sonny) do most of the harm—
She always had a man pay for her dorty deeds (Drew doing time for her crime)
Jason was also Carlys’ fixer….. Dirty Carly is 100 worse than Nina, the thing is her crimes and dirt deeds have been pushed onto others to carry..
I not only love Nina she i my favorite character on the show and Cynthia is for me the best actress (along with Maura West) on all of daytime! I am team Nina 100%! I do wish they would let Nina win and not Carly – TPTB just love that awful Carly and prop her up and tear down my Nina all the time and it’s just plain wrong!
I am a bit biased since I went to college with both Cynthia and Maura! (;
It’s ridiculous; seems like Cynthia has believed the anti-Nina rage from unhinged Carly butt-kisser viewers. Nina is “not hard to love.” So I’m not sure if Cynthia actually feels that way or felt like she had to appease viewers who don’t understand what they’re watching.
I know it’s a soap, but I didn’t like the scene where Carly and Drew ousted Nina. I didn’t like how Carly entered the room. I didn’t like how Nina clapped. It was so Dynasty Crystal-Alexis. Maybe that was their intention, to pay homage to them. I imagine it was fun for them to play the scene though. I’m ready to see something more original. Maybe the new writers will deliver.
I keep hearing that this is an excellent actress, but I don’t see it on the show… michelle staffords Nina was believable as a fashion icon and she was a great actress. I don’t see Cynthia watch rose is being amazing and I think it’s terrible that we still have to see her in spite of the fact that her story is really over and done with multiple times.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI
FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
