GH’s Dominic Zamprogna Teases What’s Next Now that Dante Has Learned Gio is His Son
You couldn’t have asked for a bigger reveal then what General Hospital gave viewers at the end of the Thursday, May 22nd episode during its Nurses’ Ball.
On stage, Gio (Giovanni Mazza) is supposed to accompany Chase (Josh Swickard) and Anna (Finola Hughes) in their tango dance, playing the violin. Only he is so overcome with what he just heard that he completely loses it on stage and announces that Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) are his biological parents, and then smashes his violin and walks out of the ball.
Dominic Zamprogna shared how he played Dante’s initial reaction when Gio blurted out the paternity shocker. He told Soap Opera Digest, “I kind of played it like he thought it was like a joke, like part of his performance or something like that, until Gio starts freaking out. It’s not really until he looks at Brook Lynn that he realizes, ‘Oh, this is actually a real thing.”
Realizing he has been duped since high school, Zamprogna says for Dante, “It’s just total shock. I remember kind of almost smiling, like, ‘What the hell is going on?’ It’s a good moment for Gio, for sure – he got to go a little apes–t up there!”

Zamprogna detailed that one of his favorite moments from the reveal was his scenes with Josh Kelly (Cody), where Cody confesses to knowing Brook Lynn was pregnant all those years ago. “Josh is phenomenal and a very soulful guy in his own right,’ shares Dominic.”I think those scenes that we had in the immediate aftermath of Dante finding out were beautifully written and super-emotional scenes.”

So, where does the story go from here? What Zamprogna did indicate is that it now opens up the story for plenty of conflict for Chase, Brook Lynn and Dante, not to mention Lulu (Alexa Havins).
When all-new episodes begin to air next week starting with the Tuesday. May 27 episode, Dominic previewed,”When he finds Brook Lynn, she’s in the middle of it with Lois (Rena Sofer). And those scenes may be the best scenes I’ve ever seen, the ones between Rena and Amanda. It’s just otherworldly. He goes to look for her to be like, ‘How could you?’ and he sees the place she’s in, this terrible moment with her mom.”

For Dante and Brook Lynn, Zamprogna shared, “It’s tough when you feel betrayed by multiple people who are very close to you and whether or not you agree with their reasons for doing it, everyone you scan your eyes to in those moments seem to already know something that they were keeping from you, whether it’s Cody or Chase or Brook Lynn or Lulu or Carly, you know? The list just seems to keep growing, and Dante is like, ‘Well, am I the only one that didn’t know?’ There’s a lot of great writing, a lot of great moments to come, for sure.”
So are you excited to see how the next leg of the story plays out now that the truth is out that Gio is Dante and Brook Lynn’s son? Do you think it will ultimately draw Brook Lynn and Dante together and cause trouble in the marriage of Brook Lynn to Chase and are Lulu’s hopes dashed in reuniting with the love of her life now that the secret came out the way it did? Weigh-in via the comment section.
When he said Josh Kelly is very soulful, I couldn’t agree more. That was a good scene. He was so calm and understated.
DZ’s acting in the last two episodes was brilliant. As Gio made his earth shattering announcement, Dante’s face went from amusement to puzzlement to shock and finally to ultimate realization. All these fluctuating array of emotions washed over his face in a matter of seconds. It was actually how someone in real life would react upon hearing life shattering news. It was subtle, intense, and it was real.
Sorry, I am not a fan of this story. There was too much retconning of the characters history regardless of how the reveals played out at the Nurses Ball.
I agree. Keep saying Lois was frank enough to sit down with the involved parties for a frank conversation. Not this sneaky Lois the writers want us to believe. Lois was honest to a fault, feelings always on her face. This is such !
I totally agree!!!
Right now, Gio is under the impression that everybody has been lying to him his entire life, and that his parents threw him away. As the facts are clarified, I think he’s going to warm up to Dante faster than he will BrookLynn or especially Lois.
Because Dante literally had no idea. And while Gio is still feeling some resentment over the way Dante treated him over the whole “Rocco got shitfaced” episode, he really can’t hold this new information against Dante. And more than likely, Dante will bring up the story about how he also grew up not knowing his father… and how that truth was revealed to him in circumstances a little more dramatic than a smashed up fiddle!
It’s Grandma Lois who will get the bulk of Gio’s wrath in the end, and – as much as a Devil has always liked Lois – she really deserves that wrath here. As she (and her mother) were the only ones who knew the real truth all along. Dante will also go off on her, more than likely. Though he will also have words for BrookLynn & Cody, who could have at least told him about the baby’s existence, even if they didn’t know any of the other details.
All the hate directed at Lulu over this? That’s ridiculous. The only mistake Lulu really made here was picking the wrong time & place to confront Lois. But let’s face it… it was a “May Sweeps Moment”, wasn’t it?
I agree, most viewers faulted Lulu 100% about finding out the truth about baby Gio and not a single post on how it was Lois and her mother orgistrated the cover-up of the century. It was cruel especially since Gio lived among his biological parents, what mother and grandmother does that to their children? I said it from the beginning, see my posts on GH blogs, I wrote Brook Lynn will tell her mother that what she did is UNFORGIVEABLE..
Lulu is completely at fault. I wish Chase had arrested her for breaking and entering. She just couldn’t keep her nose out of Brooklyn’s business. Really hope it all comes down on her. Especially since she kept saying she thought Brooklyn knew it was Gio, but hid it because she was such a good liar. Ummm excuse me, but Lulu was there when Brooklyn told her she didn’t even know if it was a boy or girl.
Right!
Dante needs an Emmy for his outstanding performances this year!
Gio as well!
I can’t wait until tomorrow this Soap is Hot. I can see many receiving awards at the next Soap Award shop. Lady and Gents get the fancy dresses and tuxedos going. No one is going to beat you this year. Good work
I can’t decide if Gio’s on stage melt down, or Michael taking Wiley “home” is my favorite thing of the ball. But The Look of Love is up there too. Gio should win an Emmy for sure! And if you saw the the gowns that Lucy wore, #5 was the best!
Agree!
I thought the look on Drew’s face when Michael walked in was the best part of the ball.
I would totally laugh if Gio is Cody’s son. Hope they do a DNA test.
That would be hilarious
Well then if that was even a possibility why didn’t Cody question Brooklyn about if he was the father. It never crossed his mind to ask her because they probably never had sex
1st.. Gio’s Violin Performance was so very amazing ! 2nd was his reveal that they were his parents! Super amazing talent! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode!!!
Too bad Gio plays the violin and not the cello because what fun the writers could have had engaging in word play. For example, “ Yo! Yo! Ma!!!??!
Good One!
Not Lulu’s story to tell. Especially when she obtained this information illegally. Her hatred for Brooklyn is over the top. Hopefully Dante sees Lulu for what she is. Too busy messing in other people’s business, maybe she should have been focused more on her own children. Looking forward to Drew’s demise. I have no use for weak women and Willow has played that part well. But enough is enough already. She will be humiliated when the truth comes out and it will be well deserved. The new Michael looks amazing in the little exposure he’s had so far.
Tuesdays show was so good with magnificent performances by Gio, Brooklyn rolling Lois off. Dante trying to understand Brooklyns position, and I think though hurt, trying to understand the best he could. Tracyvwas wonderful. But we dint know if Gio will accept . No
w maybe we will see Willow come to her senses and kick Drew to thr curb!being the newest Quartermain
Lulu doesn’t deserve Dante. She’s a woman scorned. She should crashed & burned. She was advised by her own mother/Laura & others who love her not to persue the matter. But she “intended” to play God & hurt a lot of people. She has to own it & pay dearly for being so vicious & feels the same hate that she so richly spreads. Her kids should despise her & forever reminding her she’s the scam of the earth.
I really hope Lulu and Dante get back together. They have always been in love with one another. I would be turned off bog time if Brooklyn and Dante would hook up after this, they just aren’t a good look together at all. Dante might be mad at first with Lulu but he will get over it and the two of them will wind up in bed together and later married again.
Why when Dante told her that he loved her but he was still in love with Sam a dead woman who has been dead long enough for him to get over her. Anybody remember that she had fallen in love with the teacher that got killed when they blew up the bar. She was planning a future with another man. Now she is so in love with Dante. She did all this to get back at Brooklyn even after 3verybody toʻld her toleave it alone.
Sam died a little over 6 months ago. Just how quickly is someone supposed to “get over” the loss of a loved one? Come on.
Lulu realized she was still in love with Dante around the time of the explosion – and even told Maxie that.
Rory’s short Entrance at the Nurses Ball was epic

RATINGS: ‘The Young and the Restless,’ ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Remain No #1 and # 2, ‘General Hospital’ Only Soap to Lose Viewers
The latest Nielsen ratings data is out for the week of April 27-May 1, and three out of the four network daytime dramas posted gains in total viewers, while one showed a loss in audience numbers, which may come as a surprise.
Let’s take a look at the ratings period with data from Soap Opera Network and then provide some context. The Young and the Restless remained as per usual in the top spot coming in at 3,14,000 on average total viewers slightly up +20,000 more eyeballs for the week.
In story, Y&R served up Matt’s plot to blow up the Newmans inside the abandoned gas station on the outskirts of Vegas, Sienna believing she killed Matt, only for him to be revealed alive with a severe contusion on his head by week’s end, Nick going on a bad drug trip thanks to the fentanyl laced with something else via Matt, and Cane and the Winters family learning that he is a donor match to save Malcolm’s life, while Sally got engaged to Billy.

FASHION HOUSE PROBLEMS
Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful clocked in with 2,795,000 viewers for the week up +38,000 from the previous ratings period. In story, The Bold and the Beautiful gave viewers; the fallout from Katie’s successful fashion show for her new fashion house, Logan. Dylan continuing to be freaked out. This time when doing her work at Forrester Creations, out from the clothing rack comes somebody that scares her enough to have her let out a blood-curdling scream. In addition, Liam suggested to Hope that she consider coming to work for Logan where she will be appreciated, after Steffy tells her that ‘Hope for the Future’ is back-burnered for now.
General Hospital, which many have considered being the most entertaining on a consistent basis with their storylines, most likely lost some viewers for the week because on Monday April 27, the show was preempted for a special report on the attempted shooting at the White House Correspondence dinner. If viewers did not catch it on Hulu, it aired on the network after Nightline on Tuesday at 1am. In total, GH was the only soap to lose viewers for the ratings week. GH tallied -1,809,000 which is down from the previous week by -168,000.

PAYBACK AND A SHOCKING REVEAL
In story that week, Carly’s double life with Brennan and Valentin caught up with her, Michael initiated a strategic plot against Willow, and Josslyn found herself in immediate danger after a run-in with Cassius.
Beyond the Gates, while having two days of the week fully preempted for UEFA Champions League soccer games, actually increased its viewership. BTG tallied 1,655,00 total viewers which also boasted the highest audience gains across any soap adding +42,000. In story, the soap opera spotlighted: Ashley stealing antibiotics to keep Grayson alive, Smitty zeroing in on a possible suspect in the plasma ring, Vernon taking over Martin’s debt to Joey Armstrong, while Kate recognized a name tied to Lynette’s finances.
It should also be noted for the ratings week; The Bold and the Beautiful once again topped Y&R for the top spot in the key Womens 18-49 demo and in the Womens 25-54 demo, Beyond the Gates once again bested General Hospital for the 3rd spot.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Would You Be Down With a Dante and Elizabeth Romance?
On the Friday, May 15 episode of General Hospital, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) shared a heartfelt talk on trauma. Dante is so concerned for Rocco (Finn Carr), and how it affects someone for the rest of their life, which is something Elizabeth knows all too well, but got through it.
It all begins when Elizabeth shows up at Dante’s office ready for her date with Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst). How beautiful she looked did not go unnoticed by Dante. When the talked turned to how Dante told Rocco that he knew his son shot Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), he admits he is scared for his child, because he lost his innocence with the emotional baggage he now must carry forever of shooting someone.
Dante notices how Rocco is becoming more and more withdrawn and he wants to know how to help him. Elizabeth bring up how she can absolutely relate to trauma at a young age, just like Rocco. However for Elizabeth, her trauma came in the form of a brutal rape by Tom Baker. Speaking from experience, Elizabeth details that it was her friends and family like Lucky and Bobbie who helped pull her through. She encourages Dante to continue to show up and be there as support for his son.

SPECIAL DELIVERY
Next, an officer delivers to Dante the evidence from the pier shooting, which Dante plans on destroying. Before she leaves for her date with Ric, Liz reassured Dante he is doing the right thing to protect Rocco and she has done the same. She has left no record of Rocco’s hospital visit the night of the shooting. Liz leaves for her date.
THE WRONG SUSPECT
Then, Cullum storm troops in to Dante’s office demanding the evidence that the PCPD must have collected at the site of his shooting. Dante says that the evidence must be misfiled in the warehouse, but they will find it. However, Cullum realizes Dante is stalling and lying. Before heading to Dante’s office, Cullum paid a visit to Carly (Laura Wright) and saw a photo of Danny with Jason, triggering him to now believe that Danny may have been the person who shot him in the back on the pier!

DINING WITH RIC
At dinner at Café Cherie, Ric handed Elizabeth the folder with the priceless piece of artwork he’d purchased for her through Ava. Elizabeth loved it and went over to Ric and planted a kiss on him.
Will GH move Elizabeth into a romance with Dante? Do you think Liz and Dante make a cute couple? After today’s episode, it’s clear they very much like and admire one another. If so, what happens to Liz and Ric’s burgeoning repeat romance? Share your thoughts and picks via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Dante Tells Rocco He Knows He Shot Cullum and Will Protect Son
In well-played scenes on the Thursday, May 14 episode of General Hospital, Dante (Dominic Zampogna) finally had a talk with his son, Rocco (Finn Carr) informing him that he knows the teen shot Cullum (Andrew Hawkes).
Rocco has dreaded his father finding out, because he is the acting police commissioner of the Port Charles PD and feared his dad will have to arrest him for the crime.
Dante asks Rocco in his own words to recount what happened the night on the pier. He assured his son, he is not going to arrest him and noted there are very extenuating circumstances surrounding the crime.

Courtesy/ABC
FATHER AND SON
Rocco explained how he followed Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) to the pier. Then, how Cullum attacked Britt. Jason (Steve Burton) showed up and fought with Cullum and how the gun came loose. He remembers the other weapon Cullum pulled out to kill Jason and that’s when he shot him.
Next, Dante explained that he was proud of his son for saving Jason and Britt’s lives. He also tells Rocco that he is very concerned in Britt’s involvement in all of this stemming all the way back to the Five Poppies, and feels she is still tied into everything that is happening.
Dante tells Rocco that nobody else can know about this involvement in the shooting. He also touchingly said, that he is his father, he will protect him. However, Rocco is worried that if the truth came out that he shot Cullum, his dad would be in serious trouble for covering up a crime. Dante tells Rocco, he should not worry about that right now, but he needs to stay in Port Charles so he and his mom can keep him safe.
A SHOCKING CALL
Suddenly, as father and son hug it out, Dante gets a call from Justine (Nazneen Contractor), alerting him to the fact that she just met with Cullum and he is looking for the evidence and the file from his shooting. Dante rolls his eyes, knowing things are about to go from bad to worse, and how is he going to keep his son safe from the evil WSB Director?
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Dominic Zamprogna always delivers a nice counterbalance to the often histrionics of other characters in Port Charles in his portrayal of Dante Falconeri. So that, when Dante breaks or gets emotional, it counts. Finn Carr has continually shined in the storyline as Rocco continues to teeter on the edge of knowing what he has done and being wracked with guilt. Next up has to be Danny learning his brother is the reason Jason was carted away. Stay tuned!
So, what did you think of the scenes between Dante and Rocco? How on earth will Dante keep Rocco safe? Share your thoughts via the comment section.
