GH’s Josh Kelly On Cody’s Plan to Save Sasha: “He Has to Use Some Tough Love to Get Through to Her”

Photo: ABC

Last week, Cody (Josh Kelly) was able to neutralize Dr, Montague (Darin Toonder) in order to save Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) from his clutches at Ferncliff. For weeks, Montague has been drugging Sasha so badly, that she has been hallucinating, confused and isolated while in his clutches.

Now, after infiltrating the mental institution, Cody with the help of a getaway car (thank you, Sam!) has whisked Sasha away to hopefully safety.  So what is Cody’s plans from here?

In a preview for the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, Kelly explains that after Cody brings Sasha to a remote cabin to begin to detox, “She’s frenetic and exhausted and still having hallucinations. For Cody, it’s just really sad. It hurts to watch and it’s really hard. But then he has to use some tough love to try to get through to her, because she kind of starts to not want to fight anymore. It requires Cody to cut pretty deep with some tough love.”

Cody is now on to Gladys (Bonnie Burroughs) and her part in all of this.  As teased by Kelly, Cody is going to do anything in his power to bring her down, and to justice, while keeping Sasha safe.  If Cody’s action land him in hot water with the PCPD or any other authorities, according to Kelly, that is OK by his soap opera alter-ego.

Josh added on Cody’s mindset, “He’s been in trouble his whole life and this is totally worth it. He’s like, ‘Who cares if I go to jail? This is bigger than me.'”

So, are you glad that FINALLY Sasha is out of Ferncliff? Are you rooting for a big love story ahead for Cody and Sasha? What SHOULD happen to Gladys now? Weigh-in via the comment section below. But first, check out this week’s promo for General Hospital.

Josh Kelly has been doing fantastic work as Cody Bell the past few months, and I can appreciate the change in character that’s been taken since his debut. And Sofia Mattsson has been playing this material to the hills, too. But enough with the Sasha torture porn; it’s unbearable at this point.

Yeah I’m sick of the Sasha torture too. I liked her with Brando but I like Cody with her too. Cody is better paired with her than Britt. Gladys…..ugh I wish Sonny was free so Nina could tell him what Gladys has done.

I’m definitely a Sasha and Brando fan. I was upset and frustrated when GH decided to kill him off. I’m not feeling the same chemistry with Sasha and Cody. It’s not working for me.

It was about time someone got Sasha out of that facility!! It was very nerve-wracking.for me to see Sasha being kept drugged up for as long as she was. I can’t help thinking Gladys will somehow wiggle her way out of this one but one thing I think we can all bet on is that Sasha sure won’t allow that woman to be in the same room with her if she does!!

I’m a Josh Kelly fan; was thrilled when I read he was coming to GH (I liked him since OLTL). He was really getting bashed on Twitter when “Cody” first came to the show; it was frustrating to read. I’m glad that Josh is now being recognized and that many are loving “Cody.” It seemed pretty obvious to me from the start this was a character who’d been hurt in his life, was emotionally lost and in defense mode.

I’m also SO glad they let his good looks come through. The scraggly facial hair, the sideburns, the clothes; he looked unattractive to many who aren’t familiar with the actor. His “new” look finally does him justice; hope they keep him that way!

So, yes, I’m a Sasha/Cody fan and I hope these writers can write a compelling story for them, a growing romance. I also really would like to see Cody tell Mac he’s his son, and for the show to give John York more airtime which he’s always deserved. They make a great father/son relationship. Unfortunately Jon tweeted that he’d be off the show for personal reasons for a while. Hopefully he’s okay and will be back to find out “Mac” has a son.

Gladys? Looks like they may kill her off; wondering if Cody will be accused. They definitely set it up for that to be the case…

I sure agree with you. I’ve loved Cody from the beginning when everyone was putting him down, insulting his looks, intentions, etc. I know he’ll somehow save Sasha, expose greedy Gladys, the mad Dr. and Ms. Woo for good measure.

Yes, agree with all… let’s wrap this story up fast. Love Josh Kelly, but not when he is playing the “crazed” version of Cody. Bring back the humorous version of Cody please

Get rid of Gladys please!!!! Can’t stand her! Cody and Sasha are not a good m a match.just friends please. Get rid of Trina too@ don’t like that character….

yes Cody Sasha needs you soo tired of this story let’s end it OK give Sasha a happy ending she’s been on the show for a while and nothing good has happened give her the same happiness that she gave willow and Michael.

Cody and Sasha definitely need to get together and let their love story unfold. They have undeniable chemistry. Gladys needs to answer to so many, not sure if jail, Fire and brimstone reckoning from sonny or Miss Wu terrorizing her is the most fitting of consequences for such a miserable, selfish and ridiculous woman

This storyline is boring. Gladys needs her ass kicked

I want Gladys and Dr. Montague to get what’s coming to them. I applaud Cody for trying to save Sasha. Its about time someone stood up for her.cody shouldn’t have to pay any price for helping her.

For sure Cody and Sasha romance. Get rid of the Dr

Im loving Cody Bell. He’s a Ero & he loves Sasgae just dont know it yet. ❤❤

I wish Mac knew he was his dad ❤❤

Have Sonny take care of Gladys and have Sasha finally get the help she needs to recover. Hopefully Cody and Sasha could start a friendship.

It’s about time for Sasha to be out that he’ll hole thanks to Cody and Sam for helping her ,Gladis and the dr to get what they both deserved need same treatment as Sasha hurray to Cody and Max need to know his son Sasha need to smile and kick Gladys to the curb.

This story line has to end. Give Gladys what she deserves which is jail time. Let Cody and
Sasha love each other!

Cody (Josh Kelly) needs to keep a hot burner storyline and fire up a romance soon. Get going writers before the old crew returns.

It was great to see the Sasha and Cody coming together in the cabin and the emotions shown by both of them there. That was great when Sasha started to trust Cody after violently and forcefully yelling at him she finally reached for his hand.

I want to see the character plot with his Mac daddy

I hope they keep Sasha out of ferncliff after they’re caught. I really like Cody and Sasha together. They have chemistry big time.

Hate this storyline, but Sofia Mattson is absolutely KILLING it. Hope this is on her Emmy submission tape this year.

LOVE THESE 2 TOGETHER BUT, THEY NEED TO TAKE IS SLOW. YES GET GLADY’S WHAT SHE DESERVE FOR WHAT SHE HAS DONE TO HER DAUGHTER IN LAW. GET THE DR THAT DID IT ALSO. LEAVE SASHA ALONE ALEADY SHE DESERVES TO BE HAPPY. LOVE THE CHARACTERS OF COSY AND SASHA

NINA NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT DOWN ALSO FOR WHAT SHE DID TO CARLY AND DREW

Kelly Monaco Celebrates 20 Years on GH and Sam’s Evolution: “All the Pieces Don’t Fit Perfectly Yet, But It’s Certainly Not Broken Anymore!”

Sunday, October 1st will mark the 20th anniversary of Kelly Monaco’s debut on General Hospital as Sam McCall.  And as the story goes, when Kelly finished her run on Port Charles as Livvie Locke (2000-2003), and the show had been canceled, the three major networks were all interested in her to join their soaps.

In the end, GH won out and fans of the ABC daytime drama series have been the lucky ones to have Monaco join the A-list cast of the iconic soap. Throughout Sam’s journey in Port Charles, viewers have seen quite the character growth. Sam started on the show as a con and hustler, and bloomed into a bonafide heroine and a private investigator.

Kelly shared with Soap Opera Digest in their latest issue, how she viewed the Sam of old, to the Sam of today: “Sam came on to the canvas only having herself and her brother, always taking care of someone, and never being taken care of.  I think the biggest evolution for her is starting from being a really lonely, scared woman and becoming a woman who is still really independent, but is protected by family and friends and love and relationships and loyalty, and she never had that before.”

In a very poetic way, Monaco added on her character’s development: “She came in bent and broken, and I feel like there’s a lot of her that’s still broken, but she’s constantly sort of putting the Rubik’s Cube together. All the pieces don’t fit perfectly, yet, but it’s certainly not broken anymore.”

Throughout Sam’s two decades in Port Charles she has been in love, suffered terrible lost, found family members, had children, and has been involved in some of the most dangerous and criminal cases involving many a villain as she tried to help bring them to justice.

Photo: ABC

Currently, Sam is involved in a romance with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna).  Viewers wonder if Lulu ever wakes up out of her coma, would that spell trouble for their relationship, and in turn, give Kelly some great meaty story to work with?

Now, in the comment section below, share your congrats to Kelly for her 20-year-run on GH. Then let us know, what has been your favorite Sam story over the years?
