GH’s Lisa LoCicero Weighs-in on Olivia Warming Up to ‘Eddie Maine’: “She Sees a Real Person in There, Not Just Some Head Trauma Victim”

Photo: ABC

This week on General Hospital, things are about to take a turn in the relationship between Olivia Falconeri Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) and “Eddie Maine” (Wally Kurth).

As viewers know, Eddie Maine is actually Liv’s husband, Ned Quartermaine, only he is suffering from amnesia.  Eddie Maine, used to be the rock star alter ego of Ned, when he would perform music. However, now Eddie has seemingly taken over Ned’s personality and life.

In story, look for Eddie to perform an original song for Olivia, which takes her off-guard and changes how she now views this ‘version’ of Ned. Speaking with Soap Opera Digest in their latest issues on newsstands now, LoCicero expressed: “What she sees when he plays her this song is a man who is deeply confused by his circumstances.”

Photo: ABC

Lisa goes on to say, “She doesn’t know quite how to help him because she sees his struggle a little more clearly, and she is able to have compassion for the situation.” She adds, “When she hears this song, she makes an ineffable connection with him. It gives her hope.” Previously, Olivia had been trying anything and fighting so hard to bring Ned back.  Now, will she try to just be in love with this other side of Ned?

“She see’s a real person in there, not just some trauma victim,” LoCicero concludes. “She’s starting to see a soul in this other person, a soul trying to understand himself.”

So, where do you hope the story goes from here? Are you enjoying seeing Wally Kurth as “Eddie Maine”? Do you think “Eddie” and Olivia will fall in love, only for Ned to then resurface as he regains his memory, to confuse things further? Do you think there will ultimately be no hope for “Eddie” and Olivia? Share your thoughts on the story and the relationship in the comment section below.

Wally Kurth as “Ned Quartermaine” has been put on the back burner for way too long. I always had a conflict with Ned. I absolutely love the character, but he was a bastard to AJ who was one of my favorites. Still, he was and still is a central character in the Quartermaine family and one of only two who is left. Three if we count Tracy but how much longer will she stay? I dread the day she leaves again…love having her back.

I hate what the writers have done to the Quartermaines: Olivia, Michael, nuDrew, Willow, are Quartermaines in name-only (Michael not even in name as he insists on carrying on the name of the man who killed his father; I’m sure invisible Monica loves that (insert eyes-up-in-head) ). And throwing Carly into their scenes and house has been cringe-worthy and hard to watch. Hate it.

Would they change Ned to Eddie for the remainder of the show, similar to Jason remaining Jason Morgan? I doubt it but it could be interesting if they did. I’m sure Wally would enjoy getting to play a different side to his character; he’s been nothing but an occasional backdrop since he married Olivia and to say she had him p-whipped is an understatement.

So at this point if they can write it properly, if they can actually incorporate some romance (and entertainment; let Eddie sing. I miss the old days when Coleman had a bar and they used to have karaoke and singing. GH was actually fun back then!) rather than this doom-and-gloom, fatal-disease-of-the-week show GH has become, I say go for it. Leo already likes him…

Eddie and Olivia could be a brand new love story and when/if Ned comes back, perhaps his Eddie Maine will not be as repressed as it has been all these years. Ned should never have had to choose the corporate life over his passion for music. Going for one as a business doesn’t mean having to lose a passion for something else. And I’d like to see Olivia have some respect and awe for her husband instead of laying down the law (her law) to him all the time. Taking Carly’s side over his, taking Drew and Michaels’ side over his…I’d rather they had divorced then watch that BS. If these writers can have Olivia finally act like a woman in love with her husband, I say go for it.

Wally Kurth is doing a terrific acting job. I never saw or felt much difference between Ned Quartermaine on GH and Justin Kiriakis on DAYS, so I am pleasantly surprised that Eddie Maine has a very different presence. Clearly everyone in the storyline is having fun with it. I am really digging it.

Me too! Love it and agree with Rebecca 1. I know Olivia still loves Ned and is falling for Eddie and think that love will be reciprocated.

Ned is the only other person who knows Nina turned in Drew and Carley. I would like him to remember that. I hate that part of the story. She needs to be found out. But in true soap fashion it will happen at the wedding. Ned will come back while singing at the reception.

I’d like more singing from Eddie! I love Wally’s voice. I still remember when Ned sang “The Power To Believe” at the Nurses’ Ball with Emily. Such beautiful harmonies.

Wally does some great singing with his group on Days which I’ve watched o line as I don’t watch the show anymore.

“Daytime television invites viewers into the private lives of characters, often bringing important issues like cancer screenings into living rooms and around water coolers. Soaps debuted the first cancer storyline in 1962 – years before the topic was discussed in the mainstream, and it left an indelible impact: a whole generation of women who scheduled a potentially life-saving Pap smear for the first time,” said Daytime Stands Up host Alan Locher. “For so many viewers, this brought the issue front and center,” added co-host Michael Fairman. “Today, it’s become almost impossible to avoid; but there is hope with cancer research, thanks to organizations like Stand Up To Cancer.”

SU2C Co-Founder Sue Schwartz, SU2C President and CEO Julian Adams, Ph.D., and SU2C Health Equity Committee Member Elizabeth Jaffee, M.D., will also participate to speak to the importance of early detection, exciting scientific breakthroughs, and the ongoing work yet to be done to make screenings and treatment equitable for all.

“This year, an estimated 2 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer, presenting an opportunity for the public to stand with us and rise to the occasion,” said Adams. “We’re thankful to Alan Locher, Michael Fairman and our friends from the daytime television community, who will raise critical funding to honor those we’ve lost – and to propel new scientific breakthroughs for current and future patients. Everyone has a story, and we’re grateful to all of you for sharing yours.”

For over 15 years, SU2C has leveraged its relationship with the entertainment community – which includes more than 1,100 celebrity ambassadors – to generate public donations, increase awareness and fund cutting-edge cancer research. Lane Davies Joins the Cast of General Hospital Setting up a ‘Santa Barbara’ Reunion with Nancy Lee Grahn

Some very intriguing casting news out of General Hospital. The ABC daytime drama has cast former Santa Barbara favorite, Lane Davies (ex-Mason Capwell), in the role of Fergus Byrne, an attorney who crosses paths with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn).

According to TV Insider, Davies will make debut the week of May 22nd.  As soap fans know, together with the aforementioned Grahn, they created the Santa Barbara supercouple of Mason and Julia Wainwright. Davies portrayed Mason Capwell family from 1984 through 1989.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time in Port Charles for Lane. From 2002-2004 he played Dr. Cameron Lewis and also shared on-screen story with Grahn.  At that time Davies, played Xander Smith’s father.

GH fans are wondering about the last name of Davies new character, “Byrne”. If you recall, Alexis got herself involved with therapist Dr. Neil Byrne, who died when Harmony broke into Alexis‘ house and killed Neil by injecting him with opioids.

Taking to her Instagram, Grahn shared her excitement at the upcoming on-screen reunion with Davies, “It never gets old. We do 😂…. but it doesn’t 😍. Lookin’ forward to another romp.”

So, what do you think about Lane Davies returning to GH to play an attorney in Alexis’ orbit? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nikolas Gets an Earful from Ava About Sonny and His Meds; Nina and Drew Can’t Seem to Resist Each Other

Ava (Maura West) seems to feel she has a confidante in a jailed Nikolas (Adam Huss) on the Monday, April 29th episode of General Hospital. In story, Ava heads to Pentonville to visit her ex-husband before he is set to get transferred out of state.

When discussing her living relationship with Sonny (Maurice Benard), which Nikolas already knew about, Ava says she is happy about how her relationship with Sonny has been evolving, Nikolas ask if she’s in love with Sonny. Ava denies it, but goes on to say how great it is for her daughter, Avery to be living with both her parents, who are on the same side and not at odds.

Nikolas believes that Ava loves being in Sonny’s inner sanctum and the power that comes with it. Ava fires back that she spent years looking in from the outside and that everyone despised her. When Nikolas brings up Nina (Cynthia Watros), she says Nina never really could understand the true type of man that Sonny is.

Then, Ava launches in on Carly (Laura Wright), and how she would love to stick it to her, for all the times she blocked Ava from seeing her child and Carly’s attitude towards her. Then, Ava admits to Nikolas that she knows that Sonny has a watered-down version of his bipolar medication, which is making him more vulnerable and she’s capitalizing on it for her own gain. She says she needs to figure out who is responsible, but Nikolas voices concern for Ava’s plan and that if Sonny ever found out she knew about it and did nothing, he would be on the warpath against her. Ava promises she knows what she’s doing. When she says goodbye to Nikolas, he looks upset and sad, as he still seemingly cares for Ava.

Meanwhile in Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) office, Nina walks in complaining about Carly giving her a hard time about maintenance in her office. Nina wants payback for Jason (Steve Burton) buying Carly the hotel, but Drew is not up for playing games with her.  She says they both want revenge on Jason and Carly, which Drew denies. Next thing you know, Nina grabs Drew and kisses him. Although, it seems he might walk out the door and away from her, he locks it, and the two proceed to have round 2 of their hate-sex.

Elsewhere, Anna tells Jason about her shooting Charlotte and her concern about Valentin’s (James Patrick Stuart) involvement with Pikeman. Meanwhile, Valentin visits Jack Brennan (Charles Mesure) in Pentonville, where threats are laid out to make Sonny look like the guilty party in eliminating Jason, while Anna is the line of fire, if she doesn’t keep her nose out of Pikeman business, which worries Valentin, who doesn’t want Anna getting hurt in any of this.

So, what do you think about Ava’s plans? Did you like seeing Nikolas back on the canvas? Are you all for a Drew/Nina continued affair? Will Anna get caught in the crossfire only to be saved by Valentin? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below.
