General Hospital
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Maura West Delivers Yet Another Knockout Performance … And Ava Learns She Is Dying!

Courtesy/ABC
On Friday’s episode of ABC’s General Hospital, Daytime Emmy winner Maura West (Ava) once again reminded us all while she is at the top of her game at all times in this genre.
After the wake in her honor, Ava reveals herself to her mother Delia (Ilene Kristen) that she is alive, but then Silas (Michael Easton) and Delia have to convince her that she has to go back into hiding and leave her daughter Avery behind. This is too much to bear for Ava, who has spent virtually no time with her baby since she was born and taken from her by Nina Clay (Michelle Stafford) and Madeline Reeves (Donna Mills). Every time she gets close to some mom time with her little girl, something comes between them.
Meanwhile back in Port Charles, Michael (Chad Duell) was awarded custody of Avery and went to Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) to get her, but Sonny called Morgan (Bryan Craig) who was at the wake and informed him to take the baby to his island, because Michael was granted custody!
After Ava returns to her secret hospital room in New York with Silas, she breaks down from being separated from her daughters, and when it comes to baby Avery, Ava just falls apart and laments to Silas: “I have been without my baby since the day she was born. I have spent only a handful of hours with her during her entire life. I need to be with her. I didn’t just risk everything on a whim. I feel this ache of her absence in my soul. And I can’t keep this up, and if I don’t get the baby back I am going to break.” It was another powerful performance by Maura West, but the drama did not end there!
As the scene picks back up, Ava says to Silas, “I am Ava Jerome. I come out ahead. You said it in your eulogy, I beat the odds. There is something I can do to save myself. Why can’t I think of a way out?” To which Silas lower the boom by relating to Ava there is nothing she can do, because she is dying! Ava is shocked, and GH fades to black until Monday’s episode!
Watch the moment where Ava learns she is dying below! Then weigh-in: What did you think of Maura’s performance? Were you surprised to learn that Ava is dying? Who do you think at this point in time should custody of baby Avery? Share your thoughts below!
Well I liked the fact they put little make up on her other than for the camera. I have seen so many hospital scenes where the woman is made up like she is going out on the town instead of being ill, so kudos for keeping it real. As for the character dying— I sincerely doubt it, unless they are planning of getting rid of her, and I haven’t heard that is going to happen. This twist is to keep her in Silas’s orbit– he will have to take care of her and treat her illness in secret–until he discovers a miracle cure or something. This will cause them to bond and fall back into love. Anyway that is my guess but with GH you never know.
Maura is not going anywhere and if Ava died GH would bring her back…maybe Silas is just saying that and this is a way from keeping her going back to prison?
I agree I have watched GH from day one and she is one of the very very best actors that has ever graced the screen. They need to keep her.
Well, we both might be right. She might be really sick, turns herself in and then gets off on compassionate grounds. Silas works night and day to find a cure, they fall back in love, and just when she about to breathe her last he finds the miracle cure. So with this one twist Ron’s gets Ava out of prison, alive to be reunited with Avery and paired off with Silas with tons of hankie moments to pad GH’s Emmy reel next year. Yep that sounds about right.
They would be nuts to let her go!
What if Ava has had one of those chips implanted in her head and Her X-rays show a mass in her brain? Silas mistakes this mass as a brain tumor and death is his diagnosis.
This scenario would kill two birds with one “chip”……exculpate her for murdering Connie, and the removal of the chip will cure whatever ails her.
I agree I think he is trying to delay her from doing anything stupid.. sooo he fibbed a little bit..well at least she is back in the hosp.
I hope you are all right. Why would they save Ava against ALL odds just to have her dying of some illness. If she was to be written off, it should of happened when she was shot & fell into the freezing river over the bridge railing. Then we find out that she was shot in the shoulder. It would be impossible to survive her injuries being weak & with the frigid temperatures. I agree that Silas maybe saying this to save Ava from being on the run. He also knows she is still too weak. Maura is an excellent actress & her character has softened. Save Ava!!
I totally agree Jimh and knowing RC’s writing from both GH and OLTL I wouldn’t be at all surprised if ME and MW’s next scene begins with “You’re dying…at least that’s what we’ll SAY to get you out of jail and with your child.”
In spite of what I think is another RC “fooled ya” fake death, I do have to join Mary SF and others giving Maura West props for shining in her scenes and also for being gutsy enough to play the scenes with minimal makeup if any.
This is what an injured or sick person really looks like without the makeup so that part is very believable.
Ava actually being killed off? Not so much.
Maura West is GH’s new must see character. She’s simply amazing and the idiots at Y&R who killed her off just show how stupid they really are. Her work on ATWT was outstanding. CBS blew it big time. She’s just another reason why GH has the best group of actors on daytime.
Mary…your reply sounds good to me…now its up to tptb!!!
@jimh….Thank you for the “Ryan”s Hope” clarifications….I knew you would be the man with the answers! I enjoyed bits and pieces of the soap in its latter years, most particularly Ryan Fenelli and Rick Hyde (the yummy Grant Show!) but never followed the show religiously enough to know its many details. It just seemed to me that Maeve was always singing that song….like on St. Paddy’s Day…I caught one of her performances then, and even though I was in school when the series ended, I seemed to recall reading that was it featured in the scene which closed the final episode. As for the bar itself, didn’t I also read somewhere that it is actually an old OLTL set? And while I agree that it would have been cool to see some of the other cast members besides Delia, I should think that many of them are of retirement age or even more sadly, deceased. (Like the beautiful and classy Nancy Addison who played Jillian. I loved her and was glad to see her move on to AMC and Loving after Ryan’s cancellation….her far too early death was so sad.)
If i recall correctly Sonny, Julian, Ava, Franco and Johnny were all in prison and now they are all out. I’m sure Ava will recover. She’s too good to let cancer take her out.
GH will NEVER let her go. Her baby will supply what Silias needs to save Ava. And won’t the scene where Ava awakes to find she is not dead and so much better. She will be pised at Silias for a bit but well worth it to keep Ava around. Laura Wright for years has been the high priestess of GH, and is amazing Now GH has two.The other soaps at the moment have none I would LOVE to see a real juicy plot throwing Carly and Ava together Both of these ladies are soap goddesses.
Michael, Kiki, anyone but that slime ball mobster Sonny. I detest him. He deserves to be locked up.
Well, Leslie, join the club. Sonny is weatherproof, bulletproof, jailproof, and whatever other “proof” out there.
I do not understand what all the hoopla is about this man….no charisma, in the least; to me he is an irritant. I simply cannot explain it. Maybe because he always looks like in need of a shower?
Julian is equally guilty of crimes as Sonny, but I love Julian….he does not repel me. He looks clean and smelling like a million bucks. Go figure.
Sounds like CeeCee wants to change her name to Alexis!
@Timmm….Lol, Timmm. I actually like the name Alexis. I think Julian is a hunk, but no match for my gorgeous husband….tall, dark and handsome with the most brilliant green eyes.
Lucky Alexis is getting her share. Lol. I will not say anything negative because I promised harry. I always keep my promises.
I know you’re not a Nathan fan…lol. But do you like Julian? That is, from a guy’s point of view. What say you?
Okay you guys I have been watching GH for over 45 years, and you say Sonny need to be in jail, well let me tell you they all need to be there especially the Q’s more than all they are all criminals, the jeromes, the jaxs, alexis she is a crooked lawyer, the judge who gave michael the baby he is crooked too, so they all need to go to jail, but quess what the show is no fun with these crooked people, so please let Sonny be we all love his d those sexy dimples too much.
@CeeCee
I’ll answer that… on MY part
William DeVry lends an energy thats titillation dangerous sex
I will add… I read a SOD issue of late
sometimes.. (the guys could use all the help they can get) i’m saying this… but a man with facial hair lends a masculine tough machismo and sexies the MENS that much MORE… case in point… Dr. Patrick Drake.. has mentioned he likes his character with facial… Carlos, THEE man… ROCKS… Ric Lansing LOOKS fine.. with or without… just naming a few
It seems it’s understood… that the shows… require that 99% of the men chow up to the set clean shaven… I even read that RC/FV adhere to this mojo
having “said” this… Maurice Benard is good this way… it adds ? to his allure some? just saying… i like his facial … lends a mysique
Willaim DeVry is LOL so fine… I like his script dialogue with Alexis… telling her… give me some LOVE
this helps out our Alexis immensely.. when she without question stirs
sorry
*mysique : MYSTIQUE
*chow : SHOW
@CeeCee….Fortunately, I have made no such vow, so in your absence, I can still provide my own cheeky commentary regarding a certain character, and then you can feel free to just nod your head and voice agreement, should you feel so inclined! Aren’t “loopholes” great? LOL…. P.S. Green eyes, you say? Ooooohhhhhh….you already know how much those send me!
@Shay.
Lol. Get in line , Shay. My husband’s patients make unnecessary appointments just to see him….they complain about their aching hearts. LOL. good thing I’m not the jealous type.
Please keep reminding me the purpose for these sites. You are my inspiration, girl.
@CeeCee….Thank you for that lovely thought, but you certainly bring your own sort of special light to this website, as well! It’s always a delicious treat for me to read your thoughts on and impressions of all things Port Charles…and beyond! P.S. Hmmmm….perhaps I need to arrange a “doctor’s appointment,” even though I have no complaints….I’m the picture of health….LOL!
Thank you, Leslie! There are many of us who feel the way you do…
WOW!
OHHH MY GAWD !!!
Ava dying !
That shocker that blew my mind! (thanks RC)
GH is the epitome intriguing !
Never a dull moment!
The stories and the powerhouse actors, none better!
Mura West is true talent.. her performances are entrancing !
(she makes Ava real)
Blew your mind? You are easy to please.
Intriguing?? Try zero suspense. Dull as dishwater.
Like the Ava character is really going to die.
All this murderer has got to do is hold out for the pardons this show is passing out to all the murderers and attempted murderers like Sonny and Jake. Hell, even Anna got a pardon and a promotion. And all this happened within a few weeks!
Maura West is a true talent? Now that we can agree on.
Mr. X…Jake is not a murderer.
Mr.X…sorry…to continue…I see you made a distinction between murderer and attempted murderers. Either way, we the viewers as well as the key players in that story know that Jake didn’t spat tempt anything of his own volition…Helena implanted him with a control. If anything, he was strong enough to fight the control and actually help solve who was behind it. And now, he’s being made a pawn again by Sloane… Julian couldn’t be held (at this point) because he confessed to a crime he didn’t commit…and Sonny? Well there I agree with u..but the writers had to come up with a way to get him out. losing Michael…Michael becoming the Q he was always meant to be…and now his daughter to Michael are great ramifications for those of us who have wanted to see Sonny pay for a long time…
Maura West is a true gem indeed. And Mary? I do agree about the make up. It’s interesting to me that Maura West looks younger and prettier with less make up.
I would question Silas’s bedside manner, however. He delivered that “You’re dying” line as if he was telling her that she had an ingrown toe nail.
Maybe that’s what’s killing her, Harry. Those things can get nasty…
But, but, Harry…..isn’t it “ageist” to suggest that a woman we know is clearly over 40 “looks younger and prettier with less make up” even though it is usually, but not always, the indisputable truth? (Joan Collins and Donna Mills are only two of the very notable exceptions to that rule…both are absolutely fantastic in their full-faced, maquillaged glory…) I’m just so disappointed that I had to point this out, yet I simply had to ask, since I don’t profess to be an expert on this subject…… ; )
Actually, Harry’s comment is the exact opposite of ageist. Someone who was would encourage a woman to wear makeup, cover up, and do anything to look younger because in his eyes the person looks old. Harry is actually acknowledging that this very attractive actress doesn’t need makeup…she looks beautiful naturally, even though, as you implied, she looks over 40…and that the makeup, not the woman, isn’t as flattering. As for looking younger without makeup, you can be in your 20s and look older with makeup; look like a teen without.
I agree, Harry,,,but what I really think makes Maura more matronly is the gun mol hairstyle. When she wears it straight…looked at images of her…she really looks great!
su0000 you have me laughing so much you are so right Maura West is the best even when she was on ATWT love then and love her now, hope she in not leaving.
Maura West never delivers anything other than a stellar performance. She is one of the greatest actresses of this genre. I have watched her for years. First as Carly on ATWT, then that awful time on Y&R, where they didn’t realize what they had in her and squandered her great talent (actually she is better off since most of the Y&R cast are mediocre at best). She is what brought me back to GH and she knocks it out of the park in every performance. So happy that she ended up on a show that appreciates talent. Hers and the rest of the cast. Can’t wait to see what transpires over the next few months. Of course Ava won’t die, but Maura will deliver the performances that we have come to expect from her.
I started to write a similar post but realized I could not have done better than you Margie. Ms. West will go down as one of the best actresses of the genre.
THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT PERFECTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree..maura is phenomenal She has brought gold to PC. I love Ava good or bad. She has chemistry with every actor she has been paired with since Day 1. I sometimes watch and realize the powerhouse actors and actress on our show. We are blessed! Happy watching.
She was on Y&R and it was a bust for whatever reason. She signs on to be on GH and I wasnt thrilled. Let me tell you, was I fooled! Y&R mishandled her. She is a great actress and love the character of Ava.
Miss Margaret Hartman you are right about Maura West she one of the best thing that happen to general hospital.
Her performance was stellar perfect wonderfully raw and real love Maura can’t even explain how much..but I waiting to find out what happens I don’t think she really is dying..
Great performance, very shocked she is dying. What are the writers thinking, Michael has no business with Avery, he is a Quartermane no blood relative. He also has killed his stepmom and the thug a couple of months back. Get that judge off GH and give Sonny his daughter back.
She is second only to the late great Beverlee McKinsey
i didn’t even blanch, belch, blink, give this a second thought
Maura West is the quintisential consummate professional
Maura West is just amazing. There are very few actresses in daytime who manage to convey excellence in everything they do. I watched Maura on As The World Turns. Then I watched her tear the house down on her all too brief spin on The Young And The Restless. Finally I followed her to General Hospital and I have decided that she is a goddess. A rare gem on par with the late great Beverlee McKinsey. I can name on one hand the few actresses who can compare to Ms. McKinsey. I hope that she doesn’t leave GH because she is flawless. Congrats to the writers for giving her material that she can sink her teeth into. I actually feel for her even when she takes actions that I could never condone in real life. She makes you feel everything and that is what great acting is all about. Maura West , this is your playground so play on girl!!!
I was just enraptured by Ava. This performance was by far one of her best. It’s hard to choose, since all her performances touch me to the core. But this one…the poignancy of this one tore at my heart.
The fact that her face was free of any cosmetic embellishment gives new meaning to the word ” real”.
I would like to think that baring her face is symbolic to baring her soul…no subterfuge, no coyness. This was Ava as never before seen. The fear of never seeing her baby again was palpable.
That fact loomed over her, making her desperate. Ava was more than ready to abscond with her child from sheer desperation. Her heart was being torn out of her chest….excruciating so!5
I must also give kudos to Delia. Every word to her daughter spoke volumes. She proved that she is not the airhead she appears to be. She convinced her daughter, even though it killed her, to give up the crazy idea. Ava’s determination became indecisiveness. And, as assuredly as Ava always kept a cool head, she relented, knowing that taking the baby would not be beneficial to any of them, especially to Avery.
These are the kinds of scenes that separate Maura West from everyone else.
That is: excruciatingly so! I have no idea where 5 came from…LOL.
PS. There is no way Ava is dying. I refuse to believe it. Is Silas mistaken? No, no, no, please!
I think it could be a ploy of Silas to keep Ava from going to prison…maybe?
I’m hoping so, Jimh
So eloquently put, CeeCee, but alas, I think this death tease may be “for real.” A few months ago, I happened upon a blind item that indicated a certain “soap diva” was asking to be released from her contract and that her character be killed in the process. At the time, I was fervently hoping this was MS and Nina. (Needn’t expound upon that at the moment, but I most definitely was disappointed when it turned out she was not the actress in question….LOL.) Then, the news about KA’s imminent departure broke, and I assumed it was referring to Kiki (not that I considered her to necessarily fit that “diva” description….) When Ava took her plunge off the bridge into those icy waters, I once again recalled that little piece of gossip, and thought maybe MW was indeed the one after all….until she resurfaced. Now it makes sense that this may really be Ava’s approaching swan song. She has pretty much been painted into a corner, after all, and for whatever reason, perhaps West wants to leave the show. Furthermore, it would certainly explain Silas’ softening attitude and compassion toward Ms. Jerome….what seemingly was just a professional detachment and duty mere months ago during that heinous pregnancy storyline has suddenly appeared to extend beyond a simple moral responsibility for Dr. Clay, and this would more than plausibly explain why.
Its true. Ava is dying. Dying to have Avery in her arms again! [Boo! Boo! Boo!]
Yes, Delia was fabulous! Not only was Ilene Kristen’s performance one of par excellence, but she looked beautiful, too….very pulled together, which was a huge departure from her usually fun-but-frenzied style. That shawl was utterly gorgeous….antique? I couldn’t help but think as I admired it that it would also do quite nicely to protect the (im)modesty of other, ahem, females on the show, although, of course, I don’t have anyone particular in mind…..oh heavens, no! ; )
her singing “Oh, Danny boy” tugged at the heart…. to see Ilene Kristen doing it no less
I hope your snippet of MW is way off
I was always used to seeing IK in the role of a screwball (OLTL and her crazy coiffures, and always running about out of breath). But, she deserves a feather in her cap for this magnificent performance. Loving and true words spoken to her child. A mother’s love never wavers, as DELIA has proven.
Wasn’t that shawl eye-catching, though? I’m not a shawl girl. I am more of a jeans, cropped knits, pretty dresses and minis. I do agree with you though…..certain ladies should make it a habit of using one. Lol….just in case….
I wanted to ask you if Sonny was Carly’s first love? I am having a hard time finding little background details. Later, Shay, Shay.
@Patrick…Yes, the performance of “Danny Boy” was inspired, and also a salute to the character of Maeve Ryan, who I understand sang the same song on many an occasion at the bar. As a matter of fact, if I’m not mistaken, isn’t that how the show ended??? (I’ll bet “jimh” can answer this question….) As for Ms. Jerome, even though I detested her character for nearly the entire duration of her stint in Port Charles, particularly at the beginning when the show became “All Ava, all the time,” I can at least salute the performance of MW in the role. Once she moderated her more outrageous tendencies and showed the subtlety and nuances of her maternal side, I came to champion her. While I cannot imagine what shall happen next to this transformed character, I would not be surprised to see MW choose to leave. Maybe there is simply not enough room for two scene-stealing divas on the canvas, since it seems that the show runners are now far more invested in furthering the inane Nina and her attendant nonsense. Needless to say, I would choose West to stay over MS in a flash, given my druthers.
@CeeCee….No, Sonny was not Carly’s first love….she had plenty of action before they “hooked up.” In my opinion, that would be Jason…he will always be first and foremost in her heart, even though she ultimately came to realize that they were only destined to go the BFF route. It was her relationship with Jason that entwined her to Sonny, and if I had to choose the best description for what he means to her, I would say he’s “the lust of her life.” All roads lead back to him because they know how to push each others’ buttons and whatever else transpires, their passion is the designated default mode for the both of them, regardless of whom else comes and goes in their respective lives. Plus, they now have this long history that has been built upon many years of insane mutual experiences, and that, along with their shared love for Jason, keeps them bonded, no matter how their love/hate cycle plays out. Quite frankly, I am not that well-versed on the entire Carly saga, because I was not a regular viewer in her earliest days, as I never liked the original actress—or her successor—who played the role. As much as I often don’t care for the LW version of the character, I still think this actress owns the role, so I consider her to be the truest Carly…even if she is not quite believable as JZ’s bio-daughter. (Let’s just say she got her looks from Corbin Bernsen who played her real daddy, John Durant…that works for me!) At any rate, even though it is often considered a dubious source of information, Wikipedia has an exhaustive page on the character of “Carly Corinthos,” and it should fill-in-the-blanks for anyone not up-to-speed with this woman’s sordid past. It’s quite the read! As for “the shawl,” I appreciated it from the viewpoint of the fine fabric and print it obviously was….I love rich textiles and luxe fabrics, particularly beautiful scarves/and sometimes blouses/skirts that add color and interest, since I am pretty much otherwise addicted to head-to-toe-black designer attire in terms of daily wear. I like clean, lean, classic lines…pencil skirts, form fitting jackets, skinny pants/jeans, and stilettos, be they pumps or booties (Think Victoria Beckham….although I also appreciate the timeless elegance and design of Ralph Lauren.) Oh…and turtlenecks! (You see, I practice what I preach! LOL….) But always in a beautiful and tasteful, yet feminine presentation…so, I have just one question, CeeCee: “Jeggings,” yay or nay? Haha….(I have no problem with them, “in moderation!”) As for Delia, I appreciate her eccentric brand of uniqueness…IK has always had that “scatterbrained” look and vibe….be it as Roxy or her “Ryans’ Hope” predecessor, but she has the acting ability to pull it off in a manner that makes her endearing, rather than cloying or annoying. She is the one “blast from the ABC past” that was truly refreshing and inspired, not to mention, completely unexpected. I hope we shall see more of this crazy lady and especially her “Roger.” A cameo from Ron Hale has such comedic potential, and they always made a very engaging, though offbeat, couple.
Hey, Shay.
Thanks for the little synopsis on Carly. And, I shall check her out. I am assuming that the character has always been a shallow, one dimensional virago with low morals. However, I
can appreciate Laura’s representation of such a character. She plays Carly to the hilt. As you say, she owns the role. Sadly, Carly…not Laura, exasperates me.
I also really study the fabrics before buying anything. I always go shopping with my sisters…..lots of fun. The right color or print accentuates one’s coloring, or kill it.
Lol, Shay, I own a few jeggings…they are very comfortable, as are leggings. It depends where I am or where I’m going. However, one must have the right kind of legs, oui? Obviously, not indicative garb for the classroom. I also love pencil skirts, and, fitted jackets….especially bolero style. The shops here are amazing!
I love stilettos…I hate sneakers……only when excercizing.
Kelly Monaco certainly has the legs, I just wish Sam would deviate from the same type of outfit, day in, day out. Add some color, already. I wonder if the actors/actresses choose their own clothes on the set…or if wardrobe dictates what to wear….hmmm.
Yep Shay, Maeve sang ‘Danny Boy’ on Ryans Hope finale…Like how Ryans is sort of kept alive…wish they couldve got a few former actors to show up in some scenes when they show the bar…by the way, GHs bar looks completely different than the original…guess it had been completely remodled and the entrance relocated???
I just finished watching today’s episode. My heart hurts watching and listening to Ava’s pained dialogue with Silas. All her past wrongdoing seem to fade away as she wistfully ruminates what was and what could have been……her love for her children never faltering.
What a stretch from the impervious behavior displayed by Carly. That hand, possessively on Sonny’s shoulder was a slap in the face for a Michael. I am so mad…I’m seething; steam coming out of my ears. That is the worst betrayal a parent can bestow upon her/his child. How in your-face-smug behavior is that? What a woman…yuck!
I really do not care if Michael may be acting the jerk. He is the product of his environment. I do not know much about his younger years and his relationship with Sonny or his mother….but, it seems to me that Sonnistein and his sex-driven, indifferent to her children bride, created a demi-monster.
Now, it seems that Morgan is the voice of reason? The straight-laced, good son? “Gimme” a break !!
I’m not saying what Michael is doing is right, but hey, I can’t really say I blame him…no matter his reasoning.
Again…if Ava will be thrown away, many fans will be up in arms; including myself. PTB, please save Ava. But, if, indeed, Maura is leaving of her own free will, it will be a sad day in soapland.
I know there were rumors going around that a “soap diva” had asked to be let out of her contract, but the way I look at it, rumors are just that. I remember rumors going around last year that Maurice Benard was unhappy and would be leaving GH when his contract ended, and all he did was re-sign a multi-year deal with the show.
So I honestly don’t put much stock in anything that doesn’t come from one of the reliable sources in the soap media.
I’ve loved Maura West on GH, and despite the storyline, I don’t think she’s going anywhere. I think there’s room for as many talented actors and actresses as a writer can write for, and while I know some will probably disagree, considering the incredible amount of big name talent on GH, I think FV, RC and his team of writers have done a good job balancing screen time for all the heavy hitters.
@CeeCee….I do believe Helena is currently supposed to be comfortably ensconced in the eerie splendor of Cassadine Island…ne c’est pas? Of course that means absolutely nothing, as this countess of the crafty and cunning manages to extricate herself from any prison situation she chooses, no matter how secure and suitably soigne’ the circumstances. I certainly would surmise that she shall be embarking upon a mission of mercy—with more than a mere dash of malevolence—to visit her ailing little prince in Boston before long….I would expect nothing less of this resourceful matriarch. As for the superiority of shopping in person, I totally concur, but alas, I am stuck between two major markets…about three hours to each and back, and even though they both boast some great upscale venues for shopping, they have recently been the targets of those insidious flash mobs, and I decided that if the malls (and society) cannot find a way to deal with them, then I shall not patronize with those businesses until they do….hence, the online option. (I know this just plays into the hands of those economic-terrorists, but enough is enough….) However, I do get what you mean about the physical benefits of “retail therapy.” I grew up totally immersed in fashion, and most of my time was spent whiling away the hours enjoying the tactile pleasures of perusing, trying on and buying…..I am an inveterate collector of clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, as my ever-burgeoning closets attest. But since at least ninety percent of said wardrobe contains items unworn, I do need to give it a rest every now and then. LOL. Having said that, the Peruvian Connection does offer an amazing range of very well-crafted pieces….some quite basic, others more precious, but always designed with great craftsmanship from far-flung lands. They are created with really unique, exquisite materials in timeless and sometimes vintage looks that hold up in terms of both style and durability. (They pack well, too…) I like a bit of boho-chic now and then—as long as it’s not head-to-toe, so that one resembles a refugee from the ’60’s/’70’s—-and this place pulls it off. (I like the knit tapestry selections since they don’t look like anything you would find elsewhere.) It certainly is not my regular go-to brand, as I love to mix and match to create my own vibe, but it is not cookie-cutter. So, next time you’re in the Newbury neighborhood and in the mood for something different, check it out!….Ohhhh yeahhhhh…..Bobbie Boop was quite the prostitute nonpareil courtesy of her Aunt Ruby’s Floridian house of ill-repute. Funny thing is that she spent the better part of three decades trying to live down her sordid past since news of it first reached Port Charles’ shores, and yet, in the last year, she proudly proclaimed her well-honed skills in that arena when fighting for the prize(?) of Scott Baldwin’s attention. Go figure….
You assume correctly, CeeCee, and most succinctly nailed Carly’s character with that brief, but accurate, description! (I forgot to mention the initial circumstances of how this character originally blew into Port Charles and bedded Bobbie Boop’s hubby Tony Jones to get even with her bio-mom for abandoning her at birth. And by the way, your other favorite, Sam did the same thing with Ric when he was married to “you-know-who!” No wonder these two bad gals almost, sort of bonded on a number of occasions….they have so much in common besides just loving them mob men! ) As for your fave fashions, I hear you! We are definitely on the same page in terms of leggings/jeggings—they have their place as long as they don’t become a habit—and especially the workout shoes! I’m never out of my stilettos except during my exercise regimen. For the past decade, I have exclusively worn MBT’s….the advanced style with the two-inch lift and they are marvelous. Alas, they have been discontinued, and even though I can still find some other—mostly ugly offerings—-on the internet, this particular model has been out-of-stock for eons….I bought up in quantity at Bliss, but I am down to my last unused pair…and have yet to find anything comparable. Have you ever tried “Ryn” footwear? It’s another brand similar to the MBT line. Of course, I also concur with your appreciation for fine fabrics and the right colors and styles…..they make all the difference! I’m sure you have a lot of smashing shops in Southampton to provide just that. I’m pretty much reduced to hitting the upscale malls in my area to find anything suitable, but now I just as frequently buy online….Net-A-Porter.com. MyHabit, NeimanMarcus, and HauteLook are good sites to peruse….not nearly as much fun as lingering over the actual merchandise, but time-saving! By the way, have you ever shopped at Peruvian Connection on Newbury Street in Boston? They have the most unique and well-made artisanal fashions from around the world….I do occasionally find something fun there, too, and they have XS sizes which fit a small frame. As for KM….I’ve always thought she has the most amazing physique….she manages to be petite, yet long-limbed, at the same time….and she looks fabulous when she steps outside of her “jegging” comfort zone…I love when Sammy gets to play dress-up and experiment with more flattering colors and styles! (She looked absolutely beautiful on DWTS in her costumes!) Ditto for Finola Hughes….she was a former dancer and it shows! I can only surmise that her still-enviable figure is down to some serious Pilates! Love her and her sartorial sense, as well!!!! I’m guessing that someone such as her has much input into choosing what she wears onscreen, since she never puts a wrong fashion foot forward….she’s always classy, polished and professional! I get the feeling that most of the younger actresses just don whatever they are given, since their clothing is pretty generic, but I dare say that the more, uh, senior cast members pretty much call the shots about their specific styles, and whatever, “assets” they choose to “highlight,” since some certainly don’t make a lot of sense from a fashion viewpoint….just saying, if you get my drift!!!! LOL.
Oh, I get your drift, alright, Shay!
Ah, Shay…Newbury Street !!!! Brings back so many memories. I know every single store on that street. My favorite haunt that !! And, what about the North End of Boston?….my in-laws still live there.
Everyone in my family, including my parents attended a certain school in Massachusetts except for my eldest sister, who chose Berklee College of Music.
If you ever visit the Vineyard, another avant-garde boutique to peruse is THE GREAT PUT-ON.
But, my favorite will always be Alice + Olivia. I don’t much enjoy shopping on line. I’m touchy-feely. And, it’s much more fun in person.
What a revelation…double whammies, for sure, Shay. So, both Sam and a Carly slept with their step-fathers…yuck. Moreover, Bobbi was a hooker?
You know, people do what they must to survive, I guess. I can understand that. I’m sure there must have been a devastating reason compelling Bobbi to turn tricks. I like Bobbi/Jackie…albeit she ruined her face.
But, there’s no excuse sleeping with one’s stepfather or one’s own mother’s mate/partner.
This is a soap, but as I am always wont to mention, fiction mimics life, and sometimes, vice-versa. Sadly, such scenarios play out in reality.
By the by, where is Helena? Do we know? Later.
I truly hope Maura’s not on her way out…but Silas isn’t the type to lie. However, they do need the conflict over baby Avery to up the angry ante between Michael and Sonny. I can’t believe that neither Carly or Sonny hasn’t had one of Oprah’s aha! moments and realized this is how they ripped Michael away from AJ …under the guise that they didn’t think his life was stable/safe enough to raise his son. I want Ava to live…I haven’t heard anything either about her leaving unless this is how they resolve the imprisonment story…there really is no loophole to set her free…should be interesting to see how this plays out.
Maura West is one of the only people who can make a murderer sympathetic, and become the heroine of a story arc. I hope Silas will be able to find an “experimental” cure for Ava’s fatal condition. I would hate to lose Maura West from another soap.
I hope she gets cured because Maura WEST is a power house. I was so happy when she came to GH. Loved her on ATWT. I just don’t know how the hell she is going to get out of killing Connie?
On another note…”Avery” is the cutest! As for Silas…his personality was more dynamic…he left his soft demeanor and roared! (Maybe he’s really his brother…who either is or THINKS he’s still a vampire…and that’s what he meant. He’s drinking Ava’s blood and making her his…welllllll…it’s possible! 😉 What? Too much?
It’s a soap! Anything is possible 🙂
That would suck…lol
that’s funny Rebecca
this would be an intense time for ME’ Silas to do whatever possible to “cure” Ava
hence the bond ensues and is solidified
I too am getting his softer side
She did give an outstanding performance on Friday! I love her character and truly hope she is not leaving GH. Hopefully, whatever she’s dying from Silas will find a cure for her.
I think Kiki should get custody of baby Avery why they kill off good actor
i just love Maura West she has made Ava a strong powerful woman who doesn’t let men overpower her. keep up the good work Maura your’e one of my favorite actresses
NO WRITER IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD GET RID OF MAURA WEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“NO ONE”
LOL
Maura/Ava is going nowhere, we all know that without a doubt..
RC left us with a shocker, I like that
but=
Silas will work some paper magic and make it appear that Ava is dying, Silas can do that with a stroke of a pen umm computer..
Ava is dying by Silas’s shanaginas, he will make it appear as if Ava is dying to save her.. the way I see it coming 🙂
Ava will be just fine 🙂
Ava’s scenes were outstanding today. I love Maura West. Ava is the only character I know her as. She brings it every time. But Friday was above and beyond.
Whatever Ava’s dying from, I sure hope there’s a miracle to be pulled out of someone’s (Silas) hat. She had better not die!
“…I am going to break.” It was another powerful performance ”
gavel, echo, this, TPTB, here here
“Maura West”
reigns
theres’ a limit on audience tolerance
this has to be one of those
Maura West forefront
top tiers her profession
hierarchy lists her at the top
@ jimh. I thought about that, Jimh. But, would Silas really go through such extreme measures as to hit Ava with such an horrific announcement were it not the truth? I guess if the situation warranted it, then, yes.
This could evolve into a meaningful storyline for Silas. Oh, please, soap gods, Silas needs a story that is both fulfilling and worthy of Easton.
I doubt she is dying or she’ll need something that will cause them to do a full blown blood test and it will show that Morgan is the father of Avery instead of Sonny. Then Morgan will end up getting custody fr Michael and will find out she’s alive and will
let her see Avery.
Maura is absolutely one of the best daytime actresses, ever. Now if only they could convince Michael Park to return to daytime and pair him up with her on GH, I’d be set. I’ve never seen another actor who has as much natural chemistry with Maura, than him.
RON C, YOU BETTER NOT KILL AVA OFF…. SHE IS NEEDED THERE ! KILL OFF HELENA .. ON A BETTER NOTE GENERAL HOSPITAL KEEP ON ROCKING…
Maura West knocked it out of the park on Friday’s episode. She is a treasure. I don’t pretend to know where this story is headed but am confident in saying that Frank Valentini isn’t about to let this gem of an actress slip away from his (extraordinary) cast.
However, Ava’s eldest daughter Kiki needs to be sent packing. Pronto! Though I certainly wasn’t a big fan of Kristen Alderson, the actress that replaced her, Hayley Erin, is simply dreadful. Her scenes are painful to watch, none moreso than those during Ava’s memorial. Yikes! I understand the rationale behind the “get it in one take” philosophy due to budgetary constraints, but there still must be some deeper measure of attention paid to the appearance of the finished product. How on earth did anyone at GH (including Erin, herself) look at these scenes and think they were remotely air-worthy? Memo to Mr. Valentini: they aren’t. She needs to go.
KA Kiki was no prize either. She was behaving like Starr 2.0. KA was dull and boring as Kiki.
Perhaps…..but at least we had grown accustomed to KA in the role, and given that her character seemed not that integral in the long-run, it would have been better to accommodate Alderson in whatever manner was needed to hold onto her long enough to give “Kiki” a proper send-off. This recast is excruciatingly bad and makes an already uninteresting and unengaging character totally insufferable. Epic fail….
Maura West is GH’s best hire. Wish the producers would winnow the cast and keep this marvelous talent forefront. Miss West knows dying. I recall Carly, her awesome ATWT creation, also faced death. Being GH, however, Ava will not die. And even if she does, they just come back to life. *sigh*
But back toe Miss West… More, please.
This development will somehow lead to her not going to jail and being reunited with Avery….just my thinking.
That would be so great, tml. But, I doubt the judicial system cares one way or another. By the same token, if Sonny was pardoned and ‘knighted’ as a hero ( so laughable), anything is possible.
I was never a fan of Maura West until she came aboard as Ava On GH. Now, I simply cannot get enough of her. Maura is easily the best actress on the show right now. I sure as heck hope she wins an Emmy for her performance this year. GH had better not get rid of her or I will NOT be happy. I know that Frank and Ron were over the moon about Michelle Stafford coming aboard, but she is just a carbon copy of her over the top and larger than life Y & R character. Not to mention she doesn’t hold a candle to West as far as depth goes. Now they are over the moon about Rebecca Budig coming aboard but still she is no Maura West.
Inasmuch as I love Rebecca B., you are right about that. RB cannot fill MW’s shoes or boots, lol. EVER.
This is true, PGP….very true! Me thinks the ill-received, over-emphasis of everything Nina may have something to do with a possible MW departure…up until MS showed up on the scene, the “Ava” actress seemed totally besotted with her character, and there was never a peep about her wishing to leave GH, let alone wanting her character to die. Whatever transpires, I hope the real behind-the-scenes story seeps out….should be an interesting one, to say the least.
I hate how Michael plays the “brother” card when he has denounced his biological family and adopted family (Sonny).
Avery is NOT his biological anything. What kind of kangaroo court awards custody to him is beyond me.
Lol, Chrystie. ….actually, the same kangaroo court that kept Maxie from her baby for a year.
You’re right…it makes no sense, as Michael, in essence, has no rights to Avery. However, I would rather see said baby in the Quartermaine household than with Sonny-boy and less-than-motherly-Carly. Imagine that! At least, Avery will be dodging some bullets ….we hope.
I say if Morgan or Kiki can’t have the baby then give her to ALICE!
Nobody would stop that force. 🙂
I think Michael is the perfect person to raise Avery. First…I’m loving the payback…Sonny stole Michael from AJ…he physically hurt him and threatened him til he signed away his rights. I’ve been waiting for the revenge of AJ and coming from AJ’s son, the stolen son that Sonny raised and brought up to despise AJ…again, it’s perfect. Michael can provide a safe environment, with Monica, a doctor who will dote on hetr, Alice who will also be fiercely protective, Ned, who’s great…and Michael himself who was a great brother to Morgan and Chrstina. And let’s not forget the financial security. The icing on the cake? Calling her AJ. Brilliant!
Right, CeeCee….Until “Uncle (F)Luke comes a callin’!!!! I can just see this curmudgeonly crackpot with the colossal Corinthos chip on his shoulder taking off with Sonny and Ava’s little pride and joy….perhaps even to place her back in the arms of the surrogate psycho-mama Nina? Stranger things have happened! But I do concur with Chrystie Delancey that Alice would be the best protector for this infant….such a joy to see Ms. Gunderson back on the GH canvas!
I have really enjoyed Maura West on GH. If the rumors are true that she wants out of her contract then it is a huge loss for GH, She is one of the best…..okay she is the best actors on the soap, Hope she stays in Port Charles for years to cone
Do I want Maura/Ava to die or leave? No..great actress, but I’m not totally sympathetic towards her character either. She’s like a mini-Sonny, putting the screws on everyone else. And as for Sonny, spare me. For someone who is always protecting his family he refuses to look in the mirror and admit he has done a lousy job. Even now he’s willing to make Morgan an accomplice to kidnapping. Then there’s Carly, mother of the year, who is there to help raise Avery. Wow! Never see her much with her own daughter. Unlike some others, I’m not having a problem with the new Kiki. Ilene/Delia was wonderful, especially singing Danny Boy. If Silas closing line wasn’t just a teaser, he may have to make a deal with the devils like Helene/Olbretch , or even Robin to keep Ava alive.
Was that not the most infuriating scene? There Sonny was ranting on about how it was all about “his daughter,” and Carly (CARLY!) was even pointing out to him that Michael would be wonderful to Avery, they knew that, he was their son—and Sonny was STILL willing to put Morgan in jeopardy to “protect” Avery from Michael. “Morgan knows what he’s doing.” (Ummmmm, is that the point?) “Michael is NOT going to take my daughter away from me.” Ah, now the real truth comes out: this isn’t about Avery, this is about Sonny, and if Morgan (and Avery) get caught in the cross-fire, oh well. Of course. Because it ALWAYS is about Sonny. even Carly, aka No. 1 Enabler, was pointing out that he was putting Morgan’s future in jeopardy and it still didn’t occur to him to stop and reconsider.
Oh, yeah, Michael! You are a man after my own mind and heart. If you could only put those words into song, I would sing them from the rooftops…or join the Regatta from the Long Island Sound to Martha’s Vineyard, and sing those beautiful words all the way there.
And if you think about Sonny’s biological dad claim, look what else he did to his own sons. Avery happened because he had sex with Morgan’s “girlfriend,” after the funeral and in the crypt of AJ, bio-father of Michael who Sonny had killed, after promising not to. Geez! These are good enough reasons to trump Sonny’s biological argument…not just because she would be safer.
I got to hand it to Ron, he has figured out how to get all his A list actors out of jail. We all know Ava will get to live her “Final” months with her daughter outside of jail only to be miraculously cured and set free when the smoke clears!
See that, Timmm? I so appreciate how you briefly and succinctly say what needs to be said without a long-dragged-out explanation. That is a talent I lack.
Great post !!
Thank you.
Hi CeeCee..
We knew none would stay in prison or die but it was fun watching ‘how’ they all would be set free..
there was a whole lotta getting out going on LOL .. good stuff. tricky writing..
Timmm..
nawww.. 1ava is not sick and about to die..
RC loves trolling people into his ”gotcha” trap LOL ..
I believe she does have cancer BUT Silas will save the day!
Seems like nobody stays dead on soaps..a twin or someone identical takes over the slot..sometime gets ridiculous. Hate it when they switch actors we love ..like Jason. Just my opinion.
O.m.g!! Ava better not die,,,one of the best actress there is !!! No no no no no and hell no!!
Wonder if this is how Robin comes back on screen, or at least in story, with a miracle cure for Ava? I haven’t seen anything about Maura leaving the show, either.
Excellent actress. It’s a shame they are letting her go.
She is not leaving GH ..
Sonny should have custody of Avery
@juls.
Lol, juls. You are right…they’re all criminals. I guess there would be no show without them.
Sonny’s dimples, though? No thanks.
Hey CeeCee,,
Yup but-
they are lovable criminals lol
haa-> when they are bad they are very bad when they are good they are very good..
gotta luv ’em bad boys!
She Just allright..payback is a “B”r
Avery will be her bone donor match.
She will be missed.I hope to see her pop up somewhere else Great actress.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
