GENERAL HOSPITAL Preview: Will Ava Withhold Sonny’s Heart Medication in a Throwback to Classic Tracy and Edward Scene of 1980?

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, a timeless classic may get an updated 2025 version, when according to the latest ABC promo for the soap, Ava (Maura West) has Sonny (Maurice Benard) right where she wants him … laying on the floor writhing in pain, possibly in the throes of a heart attack and needing his heart medication which is on the ground and a few feet away from him.

Ava stands there and is hesitating to save Sonny and give him the medication. The moment immediately harkens back to the classic 1980 scene where Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) refused to help her father, Edward Quartermaine (the late David Lewis), who was having a heart attack and needed his medication. She wouldn’t give him the medication until he agreed to change his will in favor of her. However, it was later revealed that Edward was faking the heart attack to test Tracy’s loyalty. That scene, made Jane Elliot a household name, and garnered her a Daytime Emmy in 1981 in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series.

Now to present day GH! Ava needs money, and Ava wants full-custody of their daughter, Avery. What will be her bargaining chip to help Sonny? Meanwhile, Ava’s nemesis and Sonny’s daughter, Kristina (Kate Mansi), is hell-bent on taking Ava out and making her pay for the loss of her baby even though the court ruled it was an accident, Kristina can’t let it go.

In the promo, Kristina says, “Ava has to be stopped, and I have to stop her!” Meanwhile, Kristina looks to be inside a garage holding tools that could cut wires under the hood of a car. Lucky’s (Jonathan Jackson) voice is heard saying “What did you do? Kristina!” At that moment, viewers see what looks to be headlights at night of a car or two, and a female voice screaming.

Ava also has some words for Portia (Brook Kerr) and Nina (Cynthia Watros) that they should ban together to take down congressman Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison). Will they take her advice?

Take a look at the official GH spoilers for the week of March 24-28 below:

Kristina is barking up the wrong tree, as is Sonny. Ava Jerome is not one to be messed with, and they’d FA’d, so they’re about to FO.

The nerve of Kristina to say that when we all clearly saw her remember exactly what happened. She’s a horrible person.

She’s an enabled trouble.

With a punchable face!!

Who’s face? Oh right.. you guys did just let Andrew Tate move there…

Where did you go? Andrew Tate? Really? Honestly, it should be we should never hit anybody but I was making a joke predicated upon the fact that I’ve said a few times before that Kristina is the female Ted Cruz of daytime, and you know what is said about him. If you don’t, look it up. And in the meantime, please work on cultivating your humor senses.

No Ava is the horrible person! EVIL and vile!

Love her or hate her, Ava is a masterpiece while Kristina is a defective RoboVac who can’t stop manically chewing on the fringe of the bathroom rug.

Lol neither is SONNY

I would never in my life be scared of the poor man’s Don Corleone/Tony Soprano. He isn’t a gangster. At all. Talks a bit talk, and shuffles the most pathetic walk.

Sonny is awesome! Ava is a puke!

Awesome? He murdered an FBI agent in cold blood and was responsible for AJ’s death as well.

As Ava mentioned in Tuesday’s episode, both of them have some answering to do when they get to the pearly gates.

FA’d and FO ? What?

F**ed around and found out.

Ava has done SOOOOO much damage to Sonny and his family!!! She needs to be gone. Let Kristina finally rid PortCharles & GH of Ava, she’s just another worthless character & EVIL person! Take out sleeze Ric with her!

NO! Sonny needs to GO!

Ava’s already tampered with Sonny’s bipolar meds and got away with it. If I didn’t know better, I might think ReRon was writing GH again, because these writers can’t seem to come up with anything original.

She’s not the one who tampered with Sonny’s medications, though; the answer to that we never got. It’s a dropped storyline. She did swap Morgan’s out with placebos, which no one ever lets her forget, unfortunately.

Val the Bastard was the first one who tampered with Sonny’s meds. He had the pharmacist reduce them to 25% of the prescribed dosage. When Ava noticed the change in Sonny’s behavior, she had the meds tested and found out the truth.

Not only did she NOT tell Sonny what was up at that point, she escalated it by blackmailing the crooked pharmacist and ordering him to change the prescription again to complete placebos, meaning that Sonny was getting NONE of his prescribed medication. And by that point Val was already on the run, so she couldn’t use him as an excuse not to come clean about it.

Instead she used an irrational unmedicated Sonny (through no fault of his own) as an excuse to attempt to steal custody of Avery from him, which is what led to the whole scene of Krissy taking the swan dive out the window into the swimming pool and losing her baby.

And nobody should forget what she did to Morgan, since that was the major cause of his alleged “death” (we all know he ain’t really dead, of course)

Morgan is dead and isn’t coming back, thankfully. That little “ghostly” appearance was more than enough proof we did not need him to come back, and be Sonny’s moral compass.

Morgan’s not dead. Believe me, I would be the first to know if he were!

Morgan may not be “dead dead” but he won’t be brought back to the living world in Port Charles unless the show gets a cancellation notice.

Hey, you never know. Poor Bryan gets his prime time gigs, like “Good Trouble” or whatever that show was about the hotel in Miami, but then they get cancelled within a year or so. Maybe he will get sick of that and want a more “stable” gig. Which GH still appears to be, despite the 666 different directions in the writing over the last year or so.

I’m pretty confident on that assessment. Michael will eventually be back (regardless of who plays him). That gives Sonny 3 adult children, one adult grandson (Gio) and an older teen grandson (Rocco). Looks like they won’t SORAS Avery as they seem to be fixated on a non-ending custody battle. Taking all into account – and for a somewhat balanced show – no more Corinthos are needed.

You have a mighty high opinion of yourself! YOU would know. Hilarious

It’s literally my job to know such things. Most former residents of Port Charles end up down here, ya know?

Not very many of them make it “upstairs”.

This is one of the few times I hope you are wrong.Didnt like the little arrogant S.O.B

I’m with you on that, Violet.

God, I hated Morgan. He can stay in the better- off-dead category inhabited by Courtney, Sabrina and Peter.

It was NOT dropped! YES we got the answer. Valentin was lowering his dose a little at a time as not to become noticable. But Ava, witch that she is!, found the pharmacist Valentin used and threatened him with Sonny if he didn’t replace them with PLACEBOS!! AVA absolutely positively tampered with Sonny’s meds in the same exact way she had Morgan’s!!!

I totally agree! I love Maura West, but no one owes Ava anything. Didn’t Sonny agree to joint custody? She can’t have a lavish penthouse – scale down her extravagant lifestyle and there ain’t a snowball chance in hell, that Alexis will fund her the money from the Cassadine estate! I think she will cozy up to Sidwell.

I’m wondering how Ava is so broke anyway. I seem to remember her having a big chunk of Jerome mob money. Maybe her crazy sister Olivia managed to steal that before she ended up down here in Hell?

Wouldn’t be a bit surprised, she’ll do anything for a buck! She’s sure paying off Ric s bill.

The writers need to reunite Liason Lucky and Elizabeth don’t sizzle they fizzle

I feel Miss Punchable Face ( Kristina) is going to get in the way of Lucky reuniting with Lizzy.

I am awaiting the reveal with Gio and his parents, Brooklyn and Dante, more than anything

I think he will resent the holy hell out of all of them. They are all having a field day about who feels the worst, including Brook Lynn. Yes she feels guilty and bad about the whole thing, but not bad enough to take Geo and Dante aside and tell them the truth before blaɓbermouth, Lulu does.

Oh agree. I really like the Lulu when she first returned… but lately.. not so much, and she seems so concerned about everyone’s business but fails to see her own doings and faults..

I see Chase and Gio forming a bond out of all this.

I agree

I must admit I haven’t enjoyed Lulu either. Haven’t really cared much for Lucky either. Elizabeth (and many of the other moms) are unfazed by the absentee fathers and welcome them back into their hearts and beds with no issue. When she mentions needing to work shifts at GH to support her 3 boys I cringe. She has 2 living baby daddies that we know of who can help pay. I know this is make believe but I would love to see some of the writers actually take some of these fathers to task. Or at least give some of the moms some snarky dialog to say to the dads. I wish Mac could have more screen time. He’s a good father and it’s always nice when that can be showcased.

They don’t know it’s Gio! Only Lois & Gloria know it’s Gio. And Martin but he found out after he wrote all the other stuff down on paper.

That 1980 scene between Tracy and Edward is a genuine CLASSIC, not just for GH but among all daytime dramas. I recall watching it as a 17-year-old and so glued to the set. I miss that kind of writing and acting, and I very much miss the pre-internet capacity for surprise in storylines.

I agree. I wasn’t there to watch it live but have seen numerous clips of it. It was so good it resembled a 1940s classic movie full of Freudian innuendos. Brilliantly written, directed and acted. Yes, as you say, a CLASSIC.

Can Kristina please be sent to Ferncliff for 10 years? I cannot tolerate her punchable face anymore. Has she ever thought about Molly’s pain? Molly had a name picked out for HER daughter and a nursery all ready to go. But Kristina insists on calling the baby Adele instead of Irene and continues to obsess about Ava rather than accept the fact that Irene would be alive and well had it not been for her surrogate’s reckless and thoughtless actions.

Kristina needs to be allowed to end Ava! Maybe run her over! Then she can spend a few weeks in therapy and tada all good. Just like Nina did after kidnapping Avery. And BTW- If Ava had kept her skanky damn hands off Kristina she wouldn’t have been pulling away, tripped, fallen and lost the baby! They should have gotten her for ASSAULT & MANSLAUGHTER. But they pressed this push shit. Ava didn’t push her but she was responsible!

Please, someone get that girl institutionalized and on some proper meds asap.

To continue the theme, still to come:

Trina & Kai spend a night in Wyndham’s dancing through the aisles.

Alexis places her ear next to a sleeping Lulu’s chest hoping to hear Sam’s liver.

Donna goes out to Sonny’s garage and meets a visitor from another planet.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
