GENERAL HOSPITAL: Kristina Wants to Make Ava Pay: What Do You Think of the Character Shift?

It was harrowing week for General Hospital’s Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi). After a confrontation with Ava (Maura West), she winds up crashing through a window and lands in the Metro Court Pool. Then, once rushed to GH, she loses the baby she has been carrying to term that she has come to love, and is still battling the potential of ever being able to carry a child of her own again.

Meanwhile, there is a the promise and heartbreak for her sister, Molly (Kristen Vaganos). In theory, Kristina was the surrogate for Molly and TJ’s (Tajh Bellow) baby and the original plan was for her to give the baby to the couple for them to raise. As the months progressed, Kristina became deeply attached to the child.

With evidence mounting, Ava is behind bars for ‘pushing’ Kristina out the window or causing her fall, even though viewers saw the confrontation and how Kristina tripped over Cates’ (Adam J. Harrington) duffel bag and somehow flung through a window. On Friday’s August 9th episode of the soap opera, Kristina tells her father, Sonny (Maurice Benard), she wants Ava to pay for what she did to her and her baby. Sonny is concerned about Kristina’s vengeful side emerging.

Now, viewers are wondering in her grief and despair, how far will Kristina take her revenge? Will we see an ultimate character shift, where the once good girl, becomes so dark that she could ultimately become a mobster in Sonny’s nefarious ‘business’ affairs? Sonny and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) shared their concerns for their daughter, as Alexis asks Sonny to not take Ava out, in lieu of their daughter’s request.

Kate Mansi, who as usual, has been delivering stellar performances one after the other, spoke to Soap Opera Digest on what to expect from Kristina moving forward after what was a character-defining moment in the loss of her baby.

The actress revealed, “In the scenes and episodes that follow immediately after, there are so many moments where you will start to see Kristina’s whole personality shift in a way that’s like, ‘Oh, this was sort of a loss of innocence and a fall from grace.’ I don’t now if she’s ever going to be the same, and even the scenes she has with her dad, with Sonny, there’s a moment where it’s like, ‘Whoa, is she going to suddenly justify going after people? You see her trying to almost bargain with her loss by seeking revenge and by all these different avenues that feel a bit out of character.  Mansi also shared that she is, “loving Kristina’s journey right now.”

As previously announced, the end of this week brought with it the first scripts/stories from the new GH co-head writing team of Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte, along with associate head writer, Cathy LePard.  How will they frame Kristina moving forward? Stay tuned.

So, are you looking forward to seeing this darker side of Kristina? Do you hope its only temporary in her grief over the loss of her child? Comment below. But first, check out some key scenes from yesterday’s GH.

Change is good. Kristina is rightfully angry – she is doing everything I might do – questioning “What if I hadn’t gone to see Ava or walked out that door.” She is doing the healthy thing – not bottling it up. I might want Ava dead too. I’m not saying that is what should happen.

The Character is forever changed by the violent turn in her circumstances and the loss of her baby. This change in character direction will provide the new version of Kristina with more of an edge and will lead to better storylines in the future.

That wasn’t just her baby despite her shrieking that possessive pronoun over and over. That was Molly’s, TJ’s and yes, Kristina’s baby. And it was a lousy idea for a pregnant woman in her last trimester to aggressively confront Ava. Ava is guilty of a lot of things but she did not push Kristina out the window.

It’s Kristina’s baby Harry. Technicalities don’t matter. Yes; she was supposedly going to give the baby to Molly but the trajectory of the story up until that point was that she might not have been able to go through with it; she’d obviously developed very maternal feelings and it wasn’t going to be as easy as she thought to just hand her child over to her sister. While Molly grieves again: first finding out she couldn’t have children of her own, then devastated that the first surrogate miscarried (which I still don’t believe. I think that baby will pop up at some point) and now for a third time a baby doesn’t make it to term, Molly’s heart is shattered, too. And yes, that was to be her child and in her heart and mind she was. Still, as Kristina said, it’s her biological child, she carried her child for almost nine months and that bond has got to be stronger than Molly’s. Molly’s is crushing disappointment and despair. Kristina is the one with the biological feelings; one minute her child is in her belly, the next she’s empty. And she carries the weight of guilt and regret in its place.

Ava’s no innocent. She should never have asked Kristina to testify against Sonny; she already caused Kristina harm with giving that recording to gossip man. She knows that Sonny and Kristina are close and the stress that would put Kristina under, and when Kristina came to her room, instead of changing her mind when she saw how upset Kristina was, she antagonized her more by insulting Alexis, and then she put her hand on her. So though she didn’t push her, it was Ava’s fault; from forcing Kristina to testify to antagonizing her further even as their argument escalated.

Disagree. Emotionally speaking, yes, that baby was all three of theirs. Discounting TJ’s and Molly’s loss is a mistake. They had a fully furnished nursery, stuffed animals, baby clothes, etc. It was not just Kristina’s baby to grieve. Ava has done sone horrible things but she did not push Kristina out that window. On another note, Kate’s Kristina is just not resonating. Lexi would have hit it out of the ballpark. I ave no idea they had to replace her.

I didn’t discount Molly & TJ’s anguish. My reply was in reference to Harry saying, “it wasn’t just her baby despite her shrieking that possessive pronoun over and over…” It is KRISTINA who was pregnant, who carried that child inside of her (not to mention it was her child) and with that baby’s death, she was FINALLY able to say out loud that her baby was dead. Until that time, she had to keep hearing that the baby wasn’t hers and she was doing to for her sister which though true, doesn’t negate the fact that it was her baby growing inside of her and she felt the biological loss; she felt the loss of the child that was no longer inside of her being kept safe. She felt the loss that a woman feels when they carry their baby. So those scenes were realistic. She said them out loud to her mom; not to Molly, because she understood that Molly wouldn’t understand and would be hurt by those thoughts.

If you reread my comment to Harry you’ll see I didn’t negate Molly’s loss; her cumulative loss. But I understand why, in the anguishing moments of the baby’s death, she cried about the loss of “her” baby.

I’m loving Kate Mansi as Kristina; I thought she knocked the scenes out of the park. And though I loved Lexi and didn’t think I’d get used to Kate in the role, she’s won me over. Couldn’t stand Haley Pullos on any level so I was thrilled when she was recast. I’m loving Kristen Vaganos as Molly.

I have been surprised there have not been any scenes with Blaze and Kristina since she was taken to the hospital. I’m not sure this helps with getting the audience to be invested in them as a couple.

Completely agree. Really poorly written. I can’t see being invested anymore in them.

It was painful to see Kristina and Blaze part ways but it’s what needed to be done and as far as I’m concerned, I’d like to see mama go right along with her. Seeing as how Blaze fired her, I guess she’ll be staying, along with Sonny’s encouragement to get herself into someone else’s business.

She left me cold. There was nary a tear nor did her face convey emotional angst. When Courtney Hope’s Sally lost her baby on Y& R, I found myself tearing up as she put her heart and soul into that performance. Kristina screamed,” Boo hoo!” while shrieking,” That was MY baby!” felt forced and unnatural. Now, TJ, on the other hand emoted painfully while crying real tears. I loved his scene with Aunt Stella who told him, “ Grief is love with no place to go.”

That WAS a great line from Stella to TJ!

In the “my baby” scenes, I saw Kristina finally free to claim the bond she had for 8 months – the intimacy no one else could know – that she had tried to fight for the sake of Molly and the pledge made to her. I felt her mix of grief, regret, resentment, love, and anger over the loss. I think she would have made good on her promise, once hormones and sisterly love returned to normal after birth.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
