General Hospital Recasts Valerie Spencer

Now that Brytni Sarpy is over at The Young and the Restless and has debuted in her new role as Elena Dawson, looks like the powers-that-be over at General Hospital were not going to let the character she played in Port Charles, Valerie Spencer, just fade away.

When we last saw Val, she and Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth) had gotten into a fight over Kristina’s obsession with “Dawn of Day”, the cult she finds herself entrapped in.

Now, comes casting news from TV Insider, that the GH producers have recast the part to not let the PCPD be down another cop with actress and director, Paulina Bugembe.

The actress has some solid primetime appearances in The Good Place, For The People, Scandal and name but a few.

Look for Valerie to be back on the canvas with a new look come mid-April.  For more on Bugembe visit her website here.

So, glad GH is continuing the character of Valerie Spencer? Do you hope Val and Kristina patch things up? Will it be Val to the rescue to get Kristina out of the clutches of Shiloh and Dawn of Day?  Comment below.

ANOTHER waste of screen time! The character of Valerie was destroyed when she was introduced and never recovered! The character should have been killed off!

I agree that they destroyed the character; in fact, I assert that they never really fleshed out the character in the beginning–nothing about her at all, really–nothing about her parents, etc. She just “appeared” without any explanation. Wrong way to introduce a core character–part of an important family. So . . .agree.

Amen, Nancy! I’m still waiting to find out what the heck happened to Patricia during all her missing years away from Port Charles. It is truly curious, not to mention simply unforgivable, that nobody in the Spencer family ever queried Val about any aspect of her mother’s or her own past…Okay, it’s just plain strange! I particularly would like to see Pat’s backstory fleshed out….I’ve always had a dual theory about her: Given the delicate crucifix she wore around her neck, I easily envisioned her as a sainted type who entered the religious order and became a nun before eventually leaving it after adopting a foundling charge in her care, that being Valerie…..or, conversely, a sinner who hit the mean streets of Philly to ply her trade! Do you remember back to AMC’s days when Donna Beck was a hooker in “Center City” for that Sesame Street pimp dude Tyrone? (Whose actor had to vacate his role when outraged PBS viewers objected to his soap character….) Well, I think Pat also worked for him as a young woman and that he impregnated her, which resulted in the birth of Val. Either of these proposed scenarios works for me….I’m sure each contains more detail than any GH will ever deign to supply! What say you???

Works for me also, Shay! Infinitely more interesting than anything we’ve ever gotten about many of the characters!

I’ve never gotten the point of this character. Bad writing has hampered her since her introduction when she tried to kill Luke. No attempt has been made to weave her into the Spencer clan. There has been no mention of who her father is. The character has no real point or purpose, and never has. I don’t see a recast helping the situation. Even though he has been gone for almost 4/years…the stain and stench of some Carlivati creations still lingers. This cast is too big, and with so many peripheral characters it is hard to invest in and root for them. We don’t see certain characters for weeks or months and then they show up and play out some story and then they vanish again. I really wish Oscar didn’t have to die….we have lost enough Quartemaines in the last decade!

I hope she rescue Dante I know but I always preferred her for him. Sorry.

My Fantasy Shiloh ship Kristina somewhere on the other side of the world, hypnotize her entire family, just wipe away their memory of her so everyone can be happy and safe from stupidity.

Thank you, Bren! I share with you that fantasy! It’s a great one…

Valerie Spencer, that character did next to nothing, nothing.
IF, that character comes back to be the shows token lesbian, not a good move to bring her back for that purpose..
If she is back to actually do something, that would be a great improvement.

Time will tell.. hopefully, this time around she will contribute to the badly need drama..

Well, su, looks like we agree again. 🙂

She doesn’t resemble Valerie in the least. I’ll take the “wait & see” attitude to see what she brings to the part, because the last thing they need to do is kill off another Spencer. Even one who barely seems connected to the family.

nothing against the new actress but this is what’s so frustrating about gh, they tend to ignore a character for so long that the actor playing the role has no choice but to look for employment elsewhere then they decide oh yeah, we could use the character lest recast, well what happened to keeping the talent you got and not ignoring it then deciding to utilize the character w/ a new face when the old one was just right? its really frustrating and disappointing. I actually prefer the character gone for now and maybe coming back later but that’s not going to happen so here we go again..

this recast was not needed. the show doesn’t even use Valerie

That is just a slap in the face to brytni sarpi!!!

IF – for no other reason – keeping her warm… till my Brytni Sarpy RETURNS , no? whew!

I INSIST , NO, demand , that Shelly AND Chris , wake the eff up.. AND utilize Bobbi AND Laura as kindred Aunts to Val.

I don’t know about that pic ^^^ above, that she has any spark w/ Chase and/or Kristina.. so who knows where Kristina MIND is any way.

meh on what’s going on with any one outside of the featured dullard

Kevin and Dante are still triggering

I mean, come on ! watching Jason clam up AND bash Shiloh head in and won’t say a word till his lawyer is present ? AND his ‘heated stone cold eye exchanges with Sam. Are just too much. WOW aren’t they a pair of noggin bore

Best wishes to her!

She was never written very well as a character but I enjoyed the character and wished she had more of a relationship with Bobbie. Maybe this go around will be better for the character and they will write for her!?

Absolutely no resemblance to Britni…the character is supposed to be biracial and Britni looked like she could be a Spencer. They lost a beautiful actress who was very cool…could act…and did nothing with her. We STILL don’t know who her father was/is…and she was never included in anything Spencer. Seems to me she’s coming back to be paired with either Kristina or one of the eligible guys since she’s seemingly bi.

They should have used the budget to keep Michelle Stafford who’s going back to Y&R! Shocked at that one! And…they should bring Scorpio, Felicia and Max back. Obviously they’re been trying for a few years now to get rid of most of the vets and just bring in a whole new cast of characters (so to speak).

Never ever liked that character. Dumb, phony and never necessary. Hope this turns out better or just forget the whole thing!
