General Hospital's Kin Shriner Talks Scotty's Plans To Become D.A & Why He Won't Be Stealing Tracy from Luke!

Kin Shriner is back on General Hospital in his new story, where Scotty goes for the gusto to become the D.A. of crime-ridden Port Charles! When we last saw Scotty in a big moment, he said farewell for good to his long-time love Laura (Genie Francis), after the realization that he will never have her heart and will always be second best to Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary).
Now he is concentrating on winning the election to becomes District Attorney of the town even though he has perpetrated much skullduggery of his own including blackmail and assault! Shriner talked to TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan about what Scotty plans to do when and if he wins the D.A. job and why he won’t be trying to win the affections of Tracy Quartermaine away from his rival Luke Spencer any time soon, which apparently has to do with Jane Elliot (Tracy)! Here are a few interesting excerpts below!
Kin on if he will use the election to get back at Luke once and for all: “If he can’t have the girl and live happily ever after, he may as well be the disgruntled, wisecracking, fast-talking lawman and make Spencer miserable! He also plans to bring down that mobster Sonny Corinthos, who got Scott’s daughter involved in drugs and stripping. He also needs to do something about the ineffectual PC police department headed by Anna Devane. And now we’ve got even more mobsters in town with this Ava and Julian Jerome. Of course, Scotty can’t really fix this mess. [Laughs] If we clean up the town, we got no show!”
Kin on if Scott could back at Luke by stealing away Tracy from him: “I don’t think Jane will go for that. She’d be like, “Scott Baldwin? Kin Shriner? Pee-yoooo! No, thank you!” You know Jane. She loves working with Tony. They’re like the Lunt and Fontanne of the soap-opera world. But I don’t care. I’m just very pleased to be off the ice, thawed out and back on the show.”
So, are you glad to see Scotty back on the canvas with the D. A. story? Who should be his next romantic interest .. Heather (Robin Mattson), Ava (Maura West) or perhaps a redo with Lucy (Lynn Herring)? What did you think of his hilarious comment on Jane Elliot and Tony Geary being the Lunt and Fontaine of the soap-opera world? Do you agree? Comment below!
I don’t care for Scotty at all. Sorry to see he’s returning.
I do not like him, also.. icky lol
I never liked him that much… I like Luke and Tracy together… It seems to be over between him and Laura.
Love anytime a vet like Kin Shriner is back on the canvas and hope Genie is not far behind but I willnot complain as the show is firing on all cylinders !!!
I loved Scotty and Heather but not sure how they can make it work the way they have written Heather so I have to go with Scotty and Lucy – great chemistry and funny as hell together !!!
Scott Baldwin needs to reopen the murder of his one-time wife, Susan Moore. I believe there is more to the story.
The character of Scott (Bentley) Baldwin is the longest running character on the canvas at General Hospital. The character came to GH in 1866 with his mother, Nurse Meg Bentley. She married attorney Lee Baldwin. Lee adopted Scotty.
Shoot! 1966!
Johnny Whittaker was the first Scotty in 1965…he then played Jody on Family Affair in 1966.
While Scott doesn’t need another love interest, it is a soap, so I’ll go for the nuts and say Scotty and Ava for the win!
“…I’ll go for the nuts”
LOL – I’ll go with you
Kin Shriner… still has it…. that it factor that made him
the energetic… quick witted…. shutz pah… sexy…. The Man we know
Kin’ word:
he may as well be the disgruntled, wisecracking, fast-talking lawman and make Spencer miserable!
Scotty has the potential to do his own thing… for his own needs… selfish, macho, ingrate…. hell hath no fury
let him mix and mingle with any and all of GH – give Luke a break.
I can see him with Ava, Diane, and Alexis…
unleash this drool beast…
He hasnt been on in so long i forgot about him…
why has no one officailly stated that Genie Francis is gone? not even you Michael Fairman! its dissappointing how they basically used her to promote the 50th anniversary of the show then kick her to the no storyline curve. whats the story mr. Fairman? what happened to Genie Francis? why can’t she be on the show and have a separate storyline from Tony if they don’t want the characters together then why is it impossible to have them separately?
And where is A.J., and Holly, who said she is always by Roberts side, isnt around.
You know. I believe that Kin Shriner is a nice guy, BUT he is not a good actor. I really had hoped that it was just when he was younger, and that he had maybe taken acting lessons by now, but sadly no. I am truly not trying to be mean. It is just actually painful to watch scenes with him in them. He is so stiff, and seems out of breath all the time, and seems to be searching for his lines. I understand though that all actors have their own methods, so maybe this is his method. Jackie Zeaman used to bug her eyes to make a dramatic point, and it was most unattractive. Natailia Livingston had the most irritating acting method of “leaning forward” when she was making a point, or for dramatic effect. Sean Kanan is another actor who seems to be always out of breath, and he is too stiff. Each has their own, but I prefer to see natural actors like Tony Geary, Maurice Bernard, Steve Burton, Chad Duell, Bryan Craig, Laura Wright, Jane Elliot, and Genie Francis, just to name a few! When an actor is good….it seems effortless. When they are bad….it is painful to watch! Just my opinion.
Well put — I agree completely on KS’s acting skills. Just not smooth enough for me. Seems like he’s always shouting his lines too.
Sorry but Maurice Benard cannot act. Half the time it seems as if get is reading cue cards. I agree though that Kin can’t act either.
Love to see any veteran back on gh. I would pair him up with someone new.
Put him with Monica for God’s sake
That’s actually an interesting pairing!!!
that would be awesome
I understood Genie had signed a new contract and that TPTB were doing a “redo” of Laura’s return since they “botched” it the first time. Is that not correct?
I hope she is returning soon. I’ve been wondering about her status and her name is no longer in the credits which would imply she is no longer under contract.
Scotty Baldwin (and Kin Shriner) is one of my fave GH characters. So glad to hear he is coming back.
Would someone please tell me where the heck is AJ? I’m enjoying GH, but everyday I’m looking for an AJ sighting. At this point even a glimpse of this elusive creature would be appreciated. And not just a picture on the cover of the daily tabloid.
With Lucy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
”Scotty ” and his horrible hair irk me..
And why would a grown man be called ”Scotty ” lol
sounds like a doggy name..
hope this time around his hair won’t look like he stuck his finger in a light socket..
Couldn’t agree more about “Scotty!”
If he’s going to run for/become the DA, it needs to be Scott. Grow up already!
But the character hasn’t really grown at all, so maybe they should stick with Scotty 🙁
Putting Scott Baldwin with Ava Jerome would be like feeding a lamb to a hungry lion. She’d eat him for breakfast and ask for a second cup of coffee. Scott has always been one of my least favorite of the legacy character. He was tolerable with Dominique but nothing since has been memorable. As for Scott becoming the DA. . .well, he is rather morally ambiguous to be trusted in any sort of position of public trust.
I personally would like to see him as a shady DA in cahoots with the Jermones to bring down Sonny. They could be bribing him, or blackmailing him, which would make it more interesting than him being the good guy DA bringing down PC crime lords. As for romance I think Diane might be a good choice since they are both lawyers — if he was a good DA then there could be some drama with Diane representing everyone he is trying to put away– if he were a crooked DA– Diane could be his partner in crime, a go between him and his mob bosses. If not Diane- then Lucy, but I do like Lucy with the shrink, but he is never around, so I am torn.
I love that Scotty’s getting a purpose of the show but just hope he won’t be a one-note character like Mac was for something like a decade. I’d like to see him in solid storylines involving Lucy and Heather.
I read somewhere that the Laura/Lucy Deception angle wasn’t working, so they ARE bringing her back, with a meaty storyline that has NOTHING to do with Luke. She’s not gone for good … LOVE seeing Kin back. He’s got GREAT comic timing and is a welcome breath of fresh air. Can’t WAIT to see him as D.A. going toe-to-toe with Anna. Oh, MAN! Now if we can just get Robert back full-time! 😉
I’d rather see Scotty shrug off BOTH Luke AND Laura and find a storyline that has nothing to do with either of them. Scotty’s best stories had nothing to do with them (Dominque, for example).
Sure, the show has written Scotty as having done some bad things, but there’s a lot of characters whose actions swept under the rug and they’ve been forgiven/absolved.
No underhanded Scotty – let’s take him in a different direction and make use of the actor’s inherent likeability and sense of fun. Clash with Diane, Alexis and Anna over legal matters of varying sorts and yes work to be the man his father was (but not quite reaching it because this is after all a soap).
I think Scotty might be kind of good with Diane and she could lighten him up a lot but clash sort of Hepburn and Tracy-like. Kin is fond of the old 40s-speak and Diane shines when she’s fiesty and making points.
He can criticize Mac’s ineffectualness which would give Mac something to do as an added bonus.
It writes itself.
agreed
Bravo!
have to echo
Kin Shriner does have that innate and likeability built in…. to the audience
why not have him doing… just as you said
and… delve in to his inner psyche….and see what really does… drive him?
is he vulnerable…. you never see him acknowledging his lack of and or caring about his family…. be it parents and/or children
let Scotty be one of the first to story prostate cancer…. heck…. impotence…
trying to connect with any children he may have
he’s perfect foible for all the women on the canvas… his comedic and dramatic flair speak – he’ll always have something to contribute and share
I think its time for Scotty to WIN. He needs to take down Scummy, make sure Luke gets his for raping Scott’s wife, and most of all Find him a new Doninique. They were magic together. He doesn’t need Laura. Luke and Tracy just more FF fodder to me. Do jane and Tony run the show now. ?
Scotty is ok but not with Laura, the L/L/S triangle has been done to death so many times it’s like a virus. Laura/Genie Francis has been treated so shabbily it’s sickening while Luke/Anthony Geary continues to get every woman to fall in love with him, commits crimes that go unpunished while others are sent off packing, gets all the best storylines & vacation time. He even has his own writers writing for him. I’m fuming beyond words as Genie is one of the best actress’s who can hold her own against anyone in the business but all she’s ever given to do is whine, chase, cry and grovel over Luke! Laura needs the only man who truly cherished/loved & encouraged her to return,Stefan played by Stephen Nichols! He & Genies chemistry is magical. He accepted her children and loved Lulu like his own and even accepted Laura’s love for Luke, any man who can do that deserves to finally get the girl and Laura was able to be her own woman instead of chasing after the man who raped her, leaves whenever things don’t go his way or hated on her and her son because she had been with another man. LnL have been way over ever since Stefan walked into GH. Let Laura more on already and give Genie what she deserves, some respect!
I agree with you about Genie needing to be treated with respect. I just hope being that we have not seen any thing from her saying that she is done that she will be back soon there is still a lot of story that needs to be told about Laura.
I love Kin Shriner! I loved him back in the day…and I was thrilled to see him now. He’s part of the history…he was the bad boy/misunderstood boy/unrequited love boy…great with Lucy, with Bobby…a great foil to Luke…he’s another familiar face that makes General Hospital in all its fictional glory seem more “real.”
I think he’d be great with Lucy…if they’re not bring ing Doc back whom I like too…he’d be fun with Diane. And while Tracy and Monica aren’t THAT much older than him…I believe he’s 59 and they’re both late 60s…I’d rather see him with someone closer to his age like the actresses I mentioned. He needs someone fun but harmless…not an Ava. I also wish he’d get more respect…he, like AJ…is always being put down and it grates on my nerves.
And yeah…WHERE IS AJ ALA SEAN KANAN??? I find it strange that he just disappeared…he hasn’t been discussed, and Michael, who was getting very close to him hasn’t mentioned him at all.
Even if they’ve fired Sean Kanan as rumor has it…and I’m so hoping that’s not true…they can’t just bring Michael’s father back on the canvas, build numerous stories around him…..finally have him develop a relationship with Michael…and then just act like the whole storyline didn’t happen.
I know this is off topic but it hasn’t been brought up on this site at all…
I would LOVE to see Scotty pair up with Lucy. Together they could be very funny. GH needs more humor!!
I am glad to see him back! He adds a nice dynamic to the show. He is definitely a character!
I love kin shriner and scotty baldwin i think he is a great actor especially when he did the scene with dominique where he was carrying her in the snow when when she died in his arms omg i cried so hard right along with him any actor who can make there audience feel what theyre feeling as an actor is brilliant he also has the ability to bring the audience on a journey with him at anytime he can make you love him and cheer him on when hes at his best and most vulnerable (dominique) he can make youhate him when hes at his worst (lucy heather) he can make you laugh (franco) and he can make you cry as mentioned above (dominique) he has brought to life the character of scotty baldwin as if he were a real person he can be funny a loving husband an arrogant sob (lucy elevator scene) and sooooo sexy there are so many levels to the scotty baldwin character that in my opinion could never be matched or even come close to the luke spencer character or anthony geary not saying anthony geary isnt a good actor but for me i think kin shriner is much better and much more overlooked for his acting abilities

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC
Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
