General Hospital’s Cynthia Watros Delivers The ‘Power Performance of the Week’

GENERAL HOSPITAL: After Learning The Truth About Sasha; Nina Leaves Her Wedding To Valentin ... With Jax

Watros, who made Annie Dutton of Springfield and Guiding Light one of the most memorable soap roles of all-time, showed GH viewers why she is just THAT good!  We have always said that Cynthia can play: drama, romance, torture, cray-cray, heartbreak all rolled-into-one; especially when given the material.

In story, after part of the secret is out that Sasha (Sofia Matteson) is not really Nina’s bio-daughter – Nina, who has had everything she believed in fall in on her, tries to regain her strength to go back to Wyndemere to face Valentin, and move out of his house.  Once there to get her things, Nina tells Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) that where she goes is no longer his business.

Valentin admits that he was looking for her daughter which caused this whole situation, but he also does not admit his part in the Sasha cover-up and that he was the one paying her to portray Nina’s daughter.  He even goes so far to insist that Sasha’s actions were all her own.  Nina still does not believe him.  After she packs her bag, and heads for the door. Valentin tells her that his life is meaningless without her. Nina basically says, “True, that” in so many words … and makes her exit.

Next, with sunglasses on, Nina returns to the workplace at Crimson where she finds Sasha with Michael (Chad Duell) and Lucy (Lynn Herring).  She calls security and tells them all to get out.  Sasha then spins a yarn, much to the chagrin of the audience, knowing that if she implicates Liesl (Kathleen Gati) and Valentin, Nina would be devastated.  So, Sasha says she acted alone and faked being Nina’s daughter, when she was contacted by her attorney, and she was in cahoots with the guy … until he suddenly died!  What!?  Nina looks very suspicious… and throws back that how would Sasha know how to change three DNA test results.  Sasha had an answer for that – she had a friend who works in a lab do it.   Nina still believes she could not have done this alone without Valentin.  Then, in a heartbreaking speech, Watros as Nina shares how she has lost everything: her daughter, her marriage, hope she even had a daughter in the first place, and the list goes on.

And … let’s not forget Tuesday’s nuptials, which we gave our review and recap previously here.  It is there that Nina is first blindsided, and the betrayal, rage, and hurt displayed by Watros was all top-notch.  Here is Nina finally marrying the man she loves, whom she had to allow herself to come to trust all over again so she could be with him, even with all of the warning signs around her.  Not only does she have Lulu (Emme Rylan) spoil her nuptials with exposing the secret of Sasha, but then has to process the deception  which means to her that maybe she never had the child she so desperately wanted and believed she had all along.

The Friday cliffhanger though posed an upcoming intriguing scene.  Ava (Maura West) showed up with a bottle of booze to commiserate with Nina at Crimson (The same woman who Nina literally ripped the baby right out her and kidnapped it in a heinous revenge plot).  Will these two wronged woman team up?  Will there be hell to pay?  That is yet to be seen, but without a doubt, Cynthia Watros is Michael Fairman TV’s ‘Power Performance of the Week’.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: After Learning The Truth About Sasha; Nina Leaves Her Wedding To Valentin … With Jax

If you caught Tuesday’s episode of ABC’s General Hospital, you witnessed Cynthia Watros (Nina), well, being what she does best, delivering a performance that only Cynthia Watros can do!

Everyone knew the nuptials of Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and Nina were potentially cursed with all of the secrets looming, especially the major one that Sasha (Sofia Matteson) is not Nina’s biological daughter.  After overhearing as conversation between Liesl (Kathleen Gati) and Sasha in the women’s bathroom, Lulu (Emme Rylan) just had to tell the truth right in the middle of the long-awaited wedding of the  lovebirds.

After dropping the bombshell during the the ceremony, at first, Nina could not believe this at all, especially coming from Lulu; who is still dealing with the fact that her marriage to Dante is over, so why would she want anyone else to be happy? Problem was when Nina asked Sasha to just set the record straight,  she didn’t the way Nina had thought she would.  Sasha goes into the story on how she duped Nina for money, but then became so fond of her, and loved her like a daughter would.

Valentin is freaking out, because he knows he could be implicated in this mess, and while there was no proof on hand of how three DNA tests were all switched to make it look like Sasha was a DNA match for Nina’s bio-daughter, he looked the guilty party as well.  A betrayed and angry Nina feels in her gut that Valentin had something to do with this, and is rocked to her core that he lied to her again.  Nina screams she has to get out of the chapel.

Then, who should just be coming by at the right time outside the nuptials, that knight in shining armor, Jasper Jacks (Ingo Rademacher).   They make a exit together, where Jax takes Nina back to his brand new home that is barely furnished at this point, but there is a couch! And there is some scotch!  When Jax tries to calm Nina down, so she will talk about what has happened, all that she says so far is that Sasha is not her daughter, and that she never had one.

Back at the wedding, Valentin vows revenge on Lulu. Liesl lies to Maxie (Kirsten Storms) that she had no idea that Sasha was not Nina’s daughter, and Valentin makes a call to someone.

When the smoke clears from this one .. we predict these possibilities:  Jax and Nina share more than a kiss … Nina go back to Valentin and this charade of his involvement in bringing Sasha to town remains a cover-up and she gives him yet another chance .. or is it 100% curtains for Valentin?  Stay tuned.

Whatever happens next, Cynthia Watros reminded us all why she is a force to be reckoned with on daytime screens, or any acting medium for that matter.

Sonny and Carly Name Their Baby “Donna” As GH Pays Tribute To Beloved Make-Up Artist Donna Messina

Monday’s General Hospital brought with it a touching reveal, as the ABC daytime drama series honored the late Donna Messina who was an integral part of the GH family from 1983-2018 until her death.  Messina was the beloved make-up artist behind the scenes, who every actor came to know and love.

In story, Carly (Laura Wright) undergoes her c-section with Sonny (Maurice Benard) by her side to bring her new little bundle of joy into the world.  The baby is delivered and it’s a Corinthos baby girl!

Next, the doctors have to perform surgery on her due to the baby’s condition of spina bifada.  Before she is taken away, Sonny and Carly reveal her name is “Donna”.  While “Donna” is in surgery, and Carly is resting, Michael (Chad Duell), Joss (Eden McCoy) and Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth) come to see her along with Sonny.  It is there that Sonny and Carly inform the kids that they have a baby sister … and she is named “Donna’.

That set the stage for a heart-tugging monologue by Maurice Benard, who explains that the baby was named after Donna Messina from the old neighborhood – an homage to the real Donna and her qualities – and also Benard’s treasured friendship with her.

Sonny says of Donna: “She was kind and loyal and she knew how to keep a secret – you could talk to her about anything and your problems, who you love, your fears.  She would just listen, and she wouldn’t judge and she wouldn’t tell a soul.  She was tough as nails and she had no patience for fools.  And if you were annoying, she would get in your face.  She hated bullies, no matter young or old, it didn’t matter. And she was fearless, but most of all she was kind, loyal, and generous.  One of the greatest things about her was that she could always make you smile, no matter how you’re feeling. That was just the way she was.”

Messina lost her battle to cancer in December of 2018.

So, what did you think about how GH wrote in to the story their love for Donna?  Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
