GH SHOCKER: Chris Robinson Returns as Rick Webber For GH's 50th Anniversary!

Courtesy/ABCGetty
Just how are they going to pull off this one, folks?
In an amazing shocking exclusive this morning from TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan, long time heartthrob of the GH 70’s and 80’s, Chris Robinson is returning to the ABC soap for its 50th anniversary, even though when we last saw Rick Webber he had done some terrible things and wound up dead. First we thought the deed was done thanks to Laura (Genie Francis), and then we came to find out it was Scott (Kin Shriner)!
Now according to TVG, “That hot mess won’t stop Robinson from hitting the air April 1 in scenes with Rick’s former love Monica (Leslie Charleson). Just how GH will pull off the trick is hush-hush.”
General Hospital’s head writer, Ron Carlivati related about Robinson aka Rick Webber’s return: “I grew up loving Rick and Monica — to me, as a young fan, they were what GH was all about — and I really wanted to find a way to bring Rick back despite his death. I also couldn’t imagine Rick would do some of the horrible hings he did in his last appearance. That wasn’t the Rick Webber I remembered! … we did figure out a very surprising and appropriate way to incorporate him into the anniversary. There will be a nice, emotional payoff for the audience.”
So soapers, are you shocked that Chris Robinson is returning? How do you think Carlivati and his writing team will weave Rick Webber into the story? Weigh-in!
Wow. Just Wow.
double wow!!!
HEART-throb… Wow. Wow…Wow.
that is awsome
I know rick webber coming back
Good When this plot was aired Guza was at his best destroying all the history of GH.
Laura wouldn’t kill him, and I don’t like to think Scott could ever put Laura through what he did.
I shut the show off when this was airing enough of the destruction of GH.
I will be happy to see Monica have at least some scenes when she can’t have Alan.
I watched a little of the end of OL so I hope its not really a visit from heaven? nice to see the vets , so I guess we should be happy Ron remembers.
That is great!!! I still wish Leslie could come back too! He has to be a ghost and he’s either back to see Monica or Scott.
Can’t wait to see these episodes on March 29TH!
Please don’t have Rick come back as a ghost! I want him alive!! If he is alive, I am so over the moon about this!! Carlivati is fixing the mess created by the Guza camp!! Please make it so! I’m on cloud nine!!
I’m shocked and happy but what about Leslie? Laura needs her mama there and Denise Alexander is one of the most popular actresses from GH history. One soap fan site even listed her either number 1 or in top 5 as favorite female actress of all time (on soaps of course).
I have no doubt that RC wll pull this off. No doubt at all. He’s brilliant and I got to tell him so!! Yee hah!
I can only say that I am thrilled! What I love about the new Exec. Producer and Head Writer at GH is that they “get it.” They get the show. They get the characters. They get the history. They get the audience. Who would ever have thought that so much damage could be repaired in so short a time, or that ABC would even allow a team to repair the damage done by that hack writer Bob Guza and that visionless exec. producer JFP. If only those two could be put on trial for the attempted murder of GH!!!!
hey, I just wanted to say I like the way you put “the attempted murder of GH” that’s great!! I love what Frank & Ron have done too! a few are complaining..but they have to realize they could have been complaining about the show being cancelled..
Couldn’t have said it better myself! I actually got goosebumps reading about this. For Chris Robinson to come back (and back to California) it must be good. All of this is what a milestone anniversary is all about. GH has my eyeballs back! Didn’t think it was EVER going to happen.
Lol, you are so dead on, I agree 100%. Couldn’t have said it better!
So excited to hear this!! Please bring Leslie back, too!!!! Rick and Leslie were one of my favorite couples when I first started watching GH. I was over the moon when they were reunited later on Another World. Can’t wait for the anniversary episodes. Seeing all my favorite vets back on the GH scene is a dream come true!!!
Its TV, anything can happen.
Its great all the old characters coming back, hope the budgets will let ( some of ) them stay.
Maybe Rick had a twin and the twin did all the bad things and the twin is who died. All along the real Rick was locked up in a clinic in Switzerland.
AWESOME! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Monica/Rick/Alan!!!!!!!!
me too! They were awesome in their heyday!
Is nothing kept a secret and a surprise any more 🙂
RC pulled it off with Victor on OLTL, he should succeed here with Rick. Like i said b4 the Rick we thought killed could have been an imposter named Guza Frons(lol) who was hired by the Cassidines to impersonate the real R.W. 4 whatever reasons and they held the real Rick captive until he escaped maybe with Scotts help, and this is how Laura agreed to marry him unless she did rekindle old feelings for him anyway. Its what i wish but im glad he came back no matter what. Now its Alans turn. And i dont care how they do it. Serious way or not. I keeping thinking what if Edward Knew Alan wasnt dead and is the missing ELQ shareholder. He couldve been in a coma since being shot and at the time Edward kept it a secret in case he never woke up but now he has and he’ll come back to Monica only to find her in the arms of Rick Webber!
Works 4 me.
love your play out !
Thanks!
Excellent! I love that these PTB are rectifying some of the character assassinations that took place under the old PTB.
Dear Ron Carlivati,
There is no way that OLTL’s Clint Buchanan would have done all of those HORRIBLE things to Bo, Nora, Matthew and those Ford boys during your 2011 story line. I watched Joe Riley bring Clint (Clint Richie) to town back in the late 1970’s to be paired up with Viki, because his character was dying.
Also, I watched Elizabeth Webber’s (Rebecca Herbst) conflict during the Fall of 2006 when she found out that her baby was Jason’s and not Lucky’s. She did NOT tamper with the paternity test back then, so why would you suddenly write this character as changing Sam’s paternity test in 2012? You can’t have it both ways when it comes to what a long term character would or would not do just because you’re now writing GH versus OLTL!
I agree with you but people can change…ive seen it happened. On AW Rachel went from bad to good girl, so i dont see why you cant do the opposite. Clint could easily change and be more like daddy Asa but i dont feel Elizabeth would have done what you mentioned. However, like they say, never judge a book by its cover.
LOL. I forgot to mention that killing off Ric was a dumb move. Laura would have never killed Rick and Scotty would have never framed Laura.
By the way Ron, since you’re fixing old stories, when is Jacob Martin Webber coming home to his mother and brothers? AJ raising Jason and Lucky’s first born son’s is a story made of win!
Don’t forget the destruction of the Marty Saybrooke character and I am sorry he has made Todd a cartoon one line gag guy. I have tried but all I still see with Todd is a guy leading a gang rape. Just can’t get over that. And before everyone jumps on me for the most part I am ok with RC but we all make some bloopers, he is going off track here. Too many DEAD people coming back .
I am so psyched to hear this! I can’t imagine how they will pull this off but as we know, anything is possible in soaps.
I hope they have more surprises in store and hope they will NOT give us a heads up on them. Then we can really have a jaw dropping OMFG moment!
I think it is Great that they are bringing Rick Webber back for the 50th Anniversary of GH!! Wish they could also get Leslie back!!
Gonna be a Great 50th!! Thank You Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini!!
I hope they right the wrong that the previous regime did to the character and I’m glad RC is a Rick n Monica fan still though hope he doesn’t forget Lesly in this equation because if he does then its pointless to bring him back in my opinion.
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. I’m so glad that are undoing the damage that Guza inflicted on our beloved GH
So very glad to hear it! What Chrissy says goes double for me: undoing the damage.
Can’t wait to see how TPTB bring Rick back. Brava!
why does this one make me tear up instantly…..? because it’s Rick Webber…
“long time heartthrob of the GH 70′s and 80′s, Chris Robinson is returning to the ABC soap”
there’s your answer….. and our age…. Heartthrob!
shout it from the mountain tops! Leslie/Rick/Alan/Monica….. HOT/HOT/HOT/HOT.
ok… next comes Bobbie – then Scotty
I was RIGHT! i knew all along that Rick was alive. Rick had a syringe and could have given it to himself to stage his death. He was in the middle of some shady business dealings with Medtec. He probly broke some bones when Lucky and Nic put him in a car and sent it over the clifff. I think this was the huge secret that kept Laura away from PC. Scotty told Laura he helped Rick fake his death. I hope Lesley and eventually Alan can join in with a reunion that drove rating in the 70’s Before Luke and Laura!
Who the hell cares? Another damn old person. Surprise us get SBu back. I have talked with so many people about this NB, and no one seems to be that heaped about it but RC/FV. A bunch of old folks and some people who have kissed enough age trying to be more than they are,ie Liz. Thats why they have AJ sniffing after Liz, who the hell want to see another TPT family the Webbers, hell its enough they are pimping the TPT Spencers.
That the thing, RC like these old people, and the only pay off will be for him trying to recycle some all stuff. You are trying to make the fans like these people when they really don’t. In the mean time you got people leaving GH left and right, and I think the next one that leave is going to put the nail and GH coffin. Right now you have no hot couple. Carly and Todd sucks, Todd is Todd and thats the way we like Todd.Carly has nothing to do.AJ and Liz, please nothing there. No chemistry and if thats what he is looking for they need to get another woman for that. Liz has chemistry with Liz and no one else. GH have got nothing, and I am so sick of the recycle Kate/Connie that makes Sonny look like a fool. What happens to all the cash Spinelli had???GH just don’t make sense, its childish writing and I just hope someone wakes up Sweeney, if hey want to save GH. Johnny,Lulu and is Robin coming back?Probably not to stay!
Rc isnt trying to make us do anything but getting us to watch. Many of us fans are enjoying the return of many of our OLD favorites, and most all of us are applauding him for this amazing turnaround for GH. And the proof is in the ratings. Besides some older characters are making harmless guests appearances. There are many young characters on the show. The only person to leave that could put a nail in GHs coffin is RC himself. GH would have bit the dust a year ago if he and FV hadnt saved the day. Had the show been cancelled fans wouldve never got to see the shows 50th anniversary, and been complaing about that. And if the show eventually does get the ax, im still sincerelly grateful to FV and RC for giving us the extra time we get to watch GH that wouldnt most likely been possible without them. I do think R.J. and Brit would have made a better pairing then him with Liz. And whats wrong with old people? We all get old someday, and in the meantime lets respect them because we’ll want the same when we get there. Im suprised your still watching GH since you havent said one positive thing about it.
i meant A.J.
I LOVE the idea, because I agree with Ron, Rick Webber would never have killed someone, nor was he cheating on Lesley AND Monica!! Rick’s “death” was the catalyst for Laura’s catatonic stae, plus Nikolas and Lucky disposed of his body to protect Laura….they have some serious rewrites to do!
Love that RC is bringing back the vets but Denise Alexander is a soap legend and no mention of her? RC may have been a fan of Rick and Monica but the audience overwhelmingly wanted Rick and Lesley together and they wanted Monica with Alan. If they want to right the ship that’s the way it has to be!! Why bring back one and not the other. If Rick can come back then so can Alan for that matter. I just hope they give Denise Alexander the treatment she deserves. If they leave her out, I’m done!
Yep………I tuned out in about 1986/1987. Tuned back in when Lesley was found alive in 1996, only to be disappointed because there was never any mention of her great love Rick…………tuned out again out of boredom and the fact they didn’t give Lesley a story. So, Rick is FINALLY coming back in 2002 and complete character assassination abounds! Results……….another BLOW to Rick & Lesley fan (are we at 3 so far???) So NOW the plan is to bring him back to Monica?!?!?! Another “spit in the face” of Rick WITH Lesley fans!!! I am hoping they are keeping Denise’s return a secret because I will definately tune out again if they cannot honor Rick & Lesley history!
Doing the happy dance! Now if only FV & RC could bring Alan back. PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE!!!!!
The biggest mistake of the Guza regime, or maybe even in the history of soaps, was the killing of Alan Quartermaine.
I agree, Tmj!
The character who came back the last time bore no resemblance to the Rick Webber that Chris Robinson played all those years. I have no problem with a storyline that tells us that “that guy” was an evil twin or an imposter; and that the real Rick Webber has been out there all along. Now it’s time for him to come home and reunite with Leslie.
Hey, it could been Faison in a Mask!
Well, I’ve gotta say – this news depresses the HELL out of me.. Not that they are bringing CR back – LOVE him, but bringing him back to bond (in some way) with Monica??? To me – that would just be another bad rewrite… I get the fact that RC was a Rick/Monica fan.. But that was a fling.. Fix the familes that the show was built on. And the sour taste that is watering in my mouth over all of these veterens coming back without bring back Denise Alexander is making me regret starting to watch again after 28 years of staying away… Seeing all of these Vets without DA would just be a disgrace to the show’s history and to the life-long fans..
I agree I’m trouble by the fact that Denise Lesley is not in his equation to resurrecting Rick , somehow I don’t know how this is being played out but if lesly doesn’t come into play then this is just as bad a rewrite.
Yes…………this has been making me ill since I read that Ron is a Rick/Monica fan in the TV Guide article. Really??? Sooooo just cheat the MANY Rick & Lesley fans AGAIN and ignore the true history of who Rick REALLY loved. While they are at it make some Alan & Monica fans mad too. Why can’t SOMEONE get it right at GH……..go back and take a history lesson. I know there are some Rick/Monica fans out there but that lustful, sinful relationship didn’t last as many of the happy years Rick spent with Lesley.
I keep telling myself that maybe DA will be a surprise for the fans. I can’t help but HOPE that the current PTB didn’t do all of the GOOD they have done recently, only to BLOW it all out of the water at the end of the day. I will try to restrain my frustration and confusion for a little while.. But if this 50th goes off without DA, I will write off GH forever this time… May sould childish, but so what. It’s the fans who keep the show on the air. Not the writers or producers. If the fans can’t relate and engage… ya got bupkus!! Call it a day!
Sometimes you have to leave what you feel was a mistake alone. We brought Duke back from the dead we have brought AJ back from the dead. And as excited as I was to see Genie back I am not feeling it yet now we have Scotty manipulating her where was the strong woman we were going to see. If he does not stop we are going to have to call this soap Jurassic Park. Guza and JFP made some bonehead decisions but sometimes you just have to move on. He is in a pinch because he put so much on interwoving Todd,John & Starr now they are gone for however long and we are grasping here.
I don’t mind Rick returning to GH, I would have preferred Alan to return, he’s more relevant to what going on with the “Q’s” at the moment. I suspect this return is meant to prop up Laura’s connections. If that’s the case? Why not go for broke, and bring back Brian, Claudia and Leslie? I’ll even hope for Stefan, Stavros or Helena! 😛
I might have to start watching GH again.
Yep, Chris Robinson is coming back! No mention of Denise Alexander coming back……..so if they are going to cheat Rick & Lesley fans AGAIN I just assume the character stay dead! Ron Carlivati is a Rick & Monica fan!! Too bad he doesn’t realize that Rick & Monica ended in 1980 and that he happily re-married Lesley and was devastated when she died in 1984. After that, he did not crawl back to Monica….instead he stayed in a more OFF than ON marriage with Ginny Blake! If Ron thinks that he is going to redeem Rick from what happened in 2002 this isn;t the way to do it! Because that Rick (you know the one he is trying to make right) was obviously an imposter who had a fling with Monica! Rick was in LOVE with Lesley when she died, that needs to be honored!!! Alan & Monica had many happy years together, it should stay that way & Rick & Lesley fans should FINALLY get their happy ending!!!!!!!!!!!!
it’s been so long since Rick and Monica were a thing… I too would think this would for Laura, otherwise Rick could have come back for Monica after Alan died. Maybe someone will dream a meeting.
They wanted me to look as much like Rick as possible, so they bring out this old photo they found in the files. It was me 35 years ago before I was cast on GH! I said, ‘You want me to look like that?'”
LOL… that’s so funny….
someone posted above… i totally forgot he was married to Ginny Blake….
ITA… he belongs with Lesley…
Yes,i was shocked that Chris Robinson still my all time favorite actor of GH when I started watch in ’81 or 82 until he left 1986…too bad,he was too darn good. until I noticed my favorite website called Wikipendia look up list of GH cast members to see returning or depart the show or whichever who came back to GH for our Anniversary coming up.. I was shocked that his name came up right away.. I say “Yay!!!” 🙂
Loved Chris Robinson as a kid but only when he was with Denise Alexander. The chemistry between the two was fabulous. Rick needs to reunite with Lesley.

‘General Hospital’s’ Dominic Zamprogna Shares He Was ‘Happy to Hear’ of The Triangle Storyline Developing Between Dante/Elizabeth/Ric

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up about the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing, during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).
On last week’s episodes of GH, Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door, he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned.
Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT
Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where Dante and Elizabeth previously, recalling, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, ‘Well, so much for that!'”
Fast-forward to early 2025 and as Zamprogna remembered it, “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said, ‘We’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth,’ My internal monologue is going, ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is … or not.”
Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprogna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric … and a big fan base with with Jason … and you know, you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

Photo: ABC
DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES
In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is 100% down for. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.”
Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit, The buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other, and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect: Ric, Sonny, Lulu. There’s so much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”
You can check out Dominic’s visit to That’s Awesome with Steve and Bradford below.
Now weigh-in: Are you rooting for Dante and Liz, or Dante and Ric at this juncture of the story, or neither guy for Elizabeth? Let us know your thoughts and picks via the comment section.

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.
However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.
Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG
Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!
Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”
MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL
Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).
Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY
Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”
It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”
A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS
As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”
He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”
Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.”
So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.
Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.
Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON
Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”
Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Courtesy/ABC
Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”
When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES
One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”
“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good. I was working with Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.
A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?
As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”
Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.
