GH's Laura Wright On Taping Carly's Confrontation With Kiki: "I Had To Go Over When We Were Done With The Scene And Hug Hayley, Because Carly Was Merciless"

If you caught Monday’s episode of General Hospital, you witnessed yet another gut-wrenching scene featuring grieving mother, Carly Corinthos as played by Daytime Emmy winner, Laura Wright.

Reeling from the death of her son Morgan (Bryan Craig), and with Sonny (Maurice Benard) coming by to plead with Carly that the two of them mourn the loss of their son together, not seperately, Carly was emotionally raw.  However to make matters worse, when Kiki (Hayley Erin) came by to tell Carly and Sonny how sorry she was for Morgan’s death, and how she truly did love him, and that she felt guilt-ridden for her part of Morgan’s last disatrous night on earth, Carly wants to know all the details!

This is where Carly learns that Kiki had made the decision to dump Morgan for Dillon (Robert Palmer Watkins), and was attempting to tell him in person when things went awry.  Carly is livid, because she had previously begged Kiki not to lead Morgan on if she had feelings for Dillon.  The scene and the fallout featured great performances by Wright, Erin, and Benard.

Laura Wright told On-Air On-Soaps about the taping of that key scene with Hayley Erin: “Kiki comes over to say how sorry she is, and it doesn’t go so well for her.  Carly lays into her, ‘Why was he (Morgan) so upset with you?  I would like to know!’  Carly wants to know her son’s final moments.  She wants to know what’s in his heart, and what was in his head.  Kiki says very slowly she was going to break up with Morgan, and Carly says, ‘Why don’t you say that a little louder?’  That was not scripted.  I had to go over when we were done with the scene and hug Hayley, because Carly was merciless on Kiki, and Hayley and I are tight in real life.”

What did you think of the confrontation scene between Carly and Kiki? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.  But first, here’s another look as Carly lets Kiki have it!

AT LAST !

Kiki and Ava are threw ! DONE with the Corinthos

make your plea… for big showdowns

splash your waning interest(s)

Sonny and Carly are dullard – lame- so easy to disregard

neither of them are helping this show

this is the time when Ava … needs to go to ??? child welfare and Sonny loses any parental rights and/or agreements

love the spiral indeed

less is MORE

another thing… is Kiki the punching bag? when Michael went over to Kiki and overheard… that she was planning on breaking up with Morgan… she’s telling Dillon

Micheal went ballistic and once again… for REEL let Kiki have it… took out his frustrations out on Ms. Jerome… for no reason ! ? ! ? even punched Dillon out.

as Kiki told Dillon to leave… again.

Michael soon apologized… argh!

time for Kiki to show some backbone… and just ignore them… get a job somewhere else… leave them all…

Kiki should buy Rubys… bring home grandma Delia

was this before Kiki even had a chance to tell Carly that she and Morgan didn’t even have a chance to talk that night ?

even tho neither of them are sure he even listened to his messages ?

let me put this right out their… as MF is asking LW … is this story… your one and only … 1 week out of a whole year.. to submit… for emmy contention

WOW

it was expected she’d be a shoe in last year… because of the 50th anniversary show and black and white ep

I don’t think shes even a consideration

Sonny and Carly are “boring”

Hey, Patrick,
Love your prose, my friend.
Again, I don’t think this has anything to do with courage ( backbone) on Kiki’s part, ( whose scenes have been impeccable of late). It had more to do with her sensitivity. She DID love Morgan—she had been married to him, afterall.
I think it’s her sense of guilt, loss and desolation. Her emotions are in an uproar; rebelling at the turns and pitfalls of her young life.
I get the feeling she feels dirty for even entertaining the fact that she could love Dillon over Morgan; who has now become her sepulcher to worship, or bear, for the rest of her life.
I hope the writers take us through her journey of grief and recovery in a timely way, instead of just truncating her transition to wholeness, sans guilt, one, two, three as they usually do.
As far as Carly being so brutal with Kiki; that’s so understandable. It’s her grief talking. The entire world is to blame for her son’s death. Carly’s actions and or reaction are so true to life….the desperation in her face, eyes, demeanor are so authentic, I wanted to hug Carly as much as Laura wanted to hug Hayley.
Although I have no pity for Sonny ( I did feel a pinch at his pain at first) as he brought this upon himself ( I still have reservations about that. That is, he either did not do it, or Morgan is alive in order to absolve Sonny’s black soul), I am the first to praise Maurice’s performance. His pain is real….his haggard appearance and regret are more than apparent. Kudos to all.
PS. The fact that Laura felt badly as Carly had to mistreat and ‘admonish’ Kiki, really strikes a good vibe with me.
Later, Patrick.

Kiki could work with LAURA at Ruby’s/Kelley’s–give audience a chance to see more of Genie Francis and to have some light-hearted fun along with a good suspense story, etc.

does… Ava get away with the “placebo”

argh! Ms. Nosy Nelle… argh! she’s gotten so one note

hopefully Sonny in a drunk stupor… does in fact bed Nelle… and he forgets that Ava was even their…. ( in Morgans room)

which just riles me any way… as Ava is another character dumped on… to further story… ABOUT the Corinthos

Scotty Baldwin… WORK it… get her out of this mess. forever and a day… I SO WANTED Nicholas to return.. for this reason… without Paul and Morgan… heck even dr. JOE.. to spring Ava far and away from

LOL, Patrick. I don’t think Ava should get away with what she did to Morgan’s pills.
As far as I am concerned, this falls directly atop her shoulders.
But, what will happen? The only way Ava will be found out is if Maura is leaving the show.
We need Ava….we need Maura’s ‘splendor’…..so….
If Ava does not get her comeuppance, then I hope the guild will act as a cancer, eroding her poor excuse of a heart from the inside out.
Having loved Morgan or having regrets at this late hour are not enough for me.

well… who was that black leather gloved hand belong to… twas a woman

I couldn’t believe as smart as we think Ava is… why didn’t she take the pills out of the bottle and throw them in the water ?

dang it… I thought Nelle is fast. whomever it was… quick recovery / evidence

it’s like whatever it takes to get Ava in Sonny clutches.. for the purpose of Avery .

Oh, oh, oh and hmmm, Patrick. What a grest assumption. The gloved hand belongs to Nelle? Could be.
Stupid move by Ava….for all her wily, dangerous tactics; she disposes herself of the pills by tossing them in an alley garbage can? I love these alleys…LOL.
But, this action tells me that she will soon be found. Will the ‘gloved hand’ blackmail Ava?
This is another typical teasing tactic by the writers. They have no clue to whom the mysterious hand belongs.
Will the aftermath of ‘the hand’ be shelved for a while?
Is it Heather? She’ll probably get blamed….she always gets blamed. She’s Catwoman. So easy for her, even at her age, to silently get out of the institution, her ‘crazy’ boudoir, and invisible shackles; climb walls and turrets while wreaking havoc.

loved the performances today by both these actresses and sonny…..

I do Not like all crying, pain, doom and gloom.
Too much of a downer and becoming FF unacceptable for my good nature mental health to watch despair and suffering, not my thing.
I like to be entertained not kicked into a downer.

A year of J&S and not once, Not Once have I laughed or even chuckled, it’s no longer fun instead its like going to a funeral, everyday.
I’m no longer amused.

I want and need new writers !!

And– Laura is awesome! the acting by ALL is awesome- the best soap cast, without a doubt….
Their talent makes the crying jag scripts bearable.

Ahhh, su!!!! But such is life!!!! The first order of soaps is to relate life….
Death is part of life. Yes, there were a few times when I had to FF ( Carly) because the pain of having lost a child myself was too much to bear.
Life is not full of chuckles, all the time.
We agree: AWESOME.
Later, su.

The – brightest reel – naturally… is how Anna LIT UP ! LOL oh it was beautiful

she need only hear “once” that Charlotte is Griffins Daughter

Anna immediately knelt down… face to face.. with Charlotte

murmured Dukes granddaughter… my heart moved

Charlotte you could tell was taken and shared a lovely smile.

Hi Celia 🙂

Where is the occasional laughter, the fun; J&S has never delivered one feel good laugh, not one.

Naw I don’t like watching a mother fall apart because her son died…
A day or two but daily for a length of time is self-punishing to bring into my happy day…… LOL
It is not not necessary and overkill…

I’m being emotionally abused by J&S and I am not into masochism …
The public in general that get into/like the feeling of the suffering and pain of afternoon soaps deaths are Soap Opera Masochists…………………….lol

HERE’s – the – KICKER

YES – LOL – PLEASE ; LET IT BE : Jason wants to MOVE and Sam agrees

’nuff said… (more cache for Niicholas, Joe, Ric Lansing . !!!

was ALL excited till… the baby kicked

didn’t she just finish her 1st trimester ? and the baby is kicking

let’s show Billy Miller and Kelly Monaco the door… shall we

( it is negotiate time for BM ) if yahoo.com is accurate

No way does billy Miller need to leave GH !!!! R u serious ? This guy is a great actor needs to have the spotlight on him as well as Laura Wright !!! Love these two my favs

It’s called daytime DRAMA for a reason. If you want laughs and chuckles, put on Comedy Central or go watch some cartoons.

When GH is at its best, it’s been about drama and human emotion. The same can be said for pretty much every soap that has ever been on the air.

If you can’t stand the show today, you would have hated when Wendy Riche and Claire Labine ran the show, and there were storylines about people dying of AIDS, characters getting breast cancer, a child dying, husbands cheating on their wives, wives cheating on their husbands. Which also happens to be during the era when they won the Emmy for Best Drama Series almost every year. They didn’t win all those Emmys for doing comedy.

I’ve been watching GH for a long time, since 1980 as my user name states. These last few weeks leading up to Morgan’s death and the aftermath have been some of the best shows, in my opinion, that I’ve seen in many years. The writing has been fantastic, giving each character that had anything to do with Morgan their moment to shine, and the actors have knocked the ball out of the park. They won the Best Drama Series Emmy earlier this year, and I predict Frank and company will be standing on the stage for a 2nd year in a row next year because of these shows.

You are spot on 1980!

well said 1980!
The gloom & doom is what drives these great performances we’re watching, otherwise we’d be sitting around watching stupid characters like AMY all day long.
Gloom & doom is a soap opera staple and practically every great story in daytime was driven by something horrible happening.
Adventure is great .. but actors want to ACT and this puts them front & center!

I so agree with you GH 1980

Agree–that Laura is awesome. More scenes with her and Kevin and Anna–and some real humor and suspense would be a welcome relief from the doom and gloom.
Hard to muster a lot of sympathy for Carly–she knew and has known the dangers inherent with a life with Sonny.
PS Isn’t this just a repeat of the time(s) she has left Sonny because of all the violence within his chosen life with the mob?

Marquee Value : “… Hard to muster a lot of sympathy for Carly–she knew and has known the dangers inherent with a life with Sonny. ”

boy… GH put a lot of stock on this story. it’s hart to watch all of GH.

everything else; the Claudette/Griffin/Nathan/Maxie w/Charlotte story.

Maxie : “I am the daughter of Mac and Felicia Jones” her duck tape magically losts it’s stuck….

Kirsten Storms : ie: when you were in the basement with that hot bearded man. DO NOT EVER use those skinny jeans again. PLEASE eat. you are extremely thin.

you and Nathan are good enough together… so… GH trots you out and puts you in precarious situations… so the audience knows you’re still here ?

IF GH wants Maxie to mature grow and be a woman… GIVE her Georgie

Griffin : Dude – do you man up – I hope Charlotte is yours… LIVE ! show some personality… blow out the candles burn your robe… and find yourself… go big

Nathan: I accept you… you do not need to be featured… YOU NEED scenes with Nina and Dr. Leisl. it’s with your mother that you emoted more . HOTTIE

Claudette : my statuesque snake charmer… ( lose some of the black ??? eye liner on the top lid ) here’s your time to prove your metal… whatever happens with you and Valentin once of that plane… is your show to show up and steal.

had it not been for Valentin… this story would’ve sank.

———————–

INSTANT Nelle. is she the heartbeat of this show ? is she the angel lying in wait ? how is it that she magically appeared by the bridge… as Michael is their laboring over his trials and tribulations… argh! what a chore to watch … yet I do… because it’s so bad… that I wonder what the audience sees that I don’t. instant Nelle is so somber… so attuned to all the Corinthos. instant dumb as she’s now a dullard.

———————————

Kevin and Laura ! perhaps the only bright spot of this show… and that’s largely in part THANK YOU soap gods… for Jon Lindstrom… he personifies all that I require in – sexual energy –

just nudged in with: ahem… TILL HE GETS A HAIRCUT AND CASH… Franco and Liz. all prop… could be… but Franco and Liz .. dang it… when they kiss… it’s real. this duo are on to something good.. take notice Port Charles.

———————
Finn / Hayden / Tracy – blech ! GH ! do not ruin the friendship between Finn and Tracy. this is adult humor… shared whit.. intellect. Hayden can wait. if she’s Frank VAlentinis big PET

it’s so glaringly obvious that she’s being catered to with scripts to suit her. GH is doing everything possible to feature this couple. yawn.

Finn has yet to share any thing about his past… Hayden and Tracy willingly go along with his “concoctions” “cures” and his love for his wife. dag! I was really ? Finn reminds her … their is not much time… which may bode well for the show. as this forced coupling… is

——————–

Julian and Alexis – I don’t know what NLG’ Alexis must think of her scripts… she was downright disgusting… carrying on @ the Metro court.. drunk out of her mind.

that ‘s a clear sign… Julian would never put up with that.
———————

watching Carly and Sonny “deliver” it’s histrionic by now.. the tears of losing Morgan are still with… but all the angrier than thou … is B horror movie

these two characters do not connect… the actors are not on mark , or caring enough to make these two believeable. end it

once again… these three couples are not generating buzz

Carly / Sonny ; Jason / Sam ; Julian / Alexis

I love how Jason asked Sonny if he blamed him for the death of Morgan. if that doesn’t register in Jason… to just leave town with Sam… would be Nice

PS: I love love love the fire back Scotty leashed on Sonny…
something to the affect:

I may be mourning the death of my daughter
but.. I don’t wake up every day knowing I murdered my son

so there you have it… AND.. he’s standing by Ava… as her attorney and as a friend. NICE STUFF

Sonny is a little man… all the dye for his tan and hair … having relied so much on his looks with dimple… have long gone

playing a mob character, within the confines of the show and budget… hinders him… plus the writing… so… he’s not putting any thing out their that exemplifies any thing close to…. ??? The Sopranos…

WHY did they bring this back… the fans knew this… HOPEFULLY, if Morgans death is the death knell for their marriage… I say… so be it

the audience will be satisfied if Carly and Sonny simply go their own way… and just be a supporting prop

Oh, my SuzieQ.
But, I have you to keep me chuckling…
Now, I would think that the GH gods would get criticized from here to eternity if, the people involved, those who love Morgan, specially his parents, would not grieve for a decent amount of time.
We cannot expect everything to go back to normal ( as far as what’s considered normal in PC) after a couple of days. Mourning needs to take its course. Actually, this feeling never disappears for a parent. One just learns/adapts to live with it. We, as humans, are a resilient lot.

The focal point right now centers around Morgan’s death. Sure, ‘they’ could move over to other characters and their storylines….like Claudette? Ugh. You’d like that, su? LOL.
However, I do understand…you turn on your show to find a little sunshine once in a while. It will come? “If you wait for it, it will come and it will be worth it”. HaHa. Are you smiling yet?

Sonny and Carly are played out but inexplicably I really love Hayley Erin’s Kiki.

Such amazing work by all involved in this sl… Bravo!!!

Yes, soapgal. These performers truly proved their mettle….what makes them tick.
Not many, so-called, actors are able to deliver lines, scenes and draw the viewer into their ‘realm’ with as much aplomb as they have.

Its called acting, folks!

Gee, thank you for that Captain Obvious.

It was acting but the scene was intense and Laura felt she needed to reassure Hailey. Whats YOUR problem??

I agree Eileen, Sonny, Carly and Kiki were awesome!

If Morgan isnt dead i find all of this totally pointless…

Yeah, Jimmy. But, look at the discussion it is generating!!

I hope that he comes back eventually. Played by BC or a recast. I LOVE the Corinthos family, and Jason & Sam

Its the ebb and flow of a soap. I dont mind it.

I agree with you 100% Jim!!

I say keep the character dead.

Fantastic scenes…emotionally compelling and a very realistic look at grief, unlike Laura who slept with Kevin the night of Nic’s service…or Lulu who went over to tell Maxi that Morgan’s dead, barely able to speak in her sorrow…and two seconds later she and Maxi are yapping it up about Claudette! Poof! Lulu’s recovered!

The scene also wrought sympathy for Sonny who, in the midst of his despair and guilt, his instinct was to protect Kiki and alleviate hers. That’s the allure of Sonny. He truly is a man of complexity who lives by the sword and yet has the capacity for love and compassion. Great subtle acting by Maurice. I truly felt bad for him.

Laura was phenomenally heartbroken and accusatory. She really digs into raw emotion…very powerful.

Haley was fantastic. I liked this actress from the minute she took over the role (sorry Kristen). I felt what I was supposed to feel…her anguish, guilt, loss. Truly broke my heart because she was so good, loving, protective of Morgan…she put his needs over her own, took a bullet for him…lovingly supported him even when she realized her feelings for Dillon. In the end, staying true until she could explain to him in person…she truly loved him and her ache is palpable.

Loss, family, destruction, grief..powerful stuff and one of the more realistic stories they’ve done. Compellingly heartbreaking.

Nicely put, Rebecca 1.

Thanks Addison…I think we’re “”on the same page…” I just liked yours further down but didn’t realize, until now, that you were the same poster.

Hi, Rebecca,
Seriously…all jokes aside……
Very reflective post, Rebecca….love it!!
I feel very sheepish, in retrospect, about Hayley Erin. I wanted Kristen back so badly….but, now? I can’t sing Hayley’s praises loud enough.
Kiki’s reaction to Carly ‘s ( misguided) pounding her about Morgan’s death, was so poignant and real….I felt I was there in the room with them. Good show.

Hey Ceece…ahem 😉 Thanks. Glad to “have u back!”

Sonny, Carly and Kiki Are great these days, but we need to see more of the talented Genie Francis. She should have a career and friends. They should have scenes with Laura and Monica, who used to be so close!

@Krista Ramirez.
Hi, Krista ( love your name),
Oh, I agree. We all love Genie. We were seeing a lot of her for a while, as her romance with Kevin seemed to take off.
But, that sort of evaporated, as soon as it started. It really disturbed me how some of the writing gives her a bad name….such as, an insensitive mother and unmindful of her actions the day her son had been eulogized. This is not Laura, is it? I don’t know the character well.
Also, Is it possible Genie, herself, limits her air time at GH?

I love Laura Wright’s Carly and that’s saying something for me, because I didn’t care for the two previous Carlys. (Ahhh, only in soaps…)

Funny, I seem to ONLY like LW when she’s playing this kind of stuff, otherwise she’s too sanctimonious and giddy for me.

Agree with you Ces.

Yeah, Ces. I like a ‘suffering’ Carly, myself. So much more human than her self-righteousness, screaming from every pore. But, I came a long way……Carly was a persona non grata for a while.
But, I appreciate good acting, and Laura Wright does deliver.
I’d rather see her on my screen than Jordan; who, may I add, is grasping the air for any excuse to hide the fact that she has the hots for Curtis.

One thing we can say about Bryan Craig’s departure—Laura Wright has just gotten her 2 reels to submit to the blue ribbon panel for the Emmys just out of this storyline. That lady is powerful and I do think she will take home the statue again this year!!!

Tired of Gh Doom. S/l with bombs and Sonny has been played. GH needs new writers.

I loved these scenes!!! Laura & Maurice are pulling out Emmy performances!!! I’m a CarSon fan so it hurts to see them apart and in pain but I have faith things will work out!!!

Really? I loved every actress who has played Carly, except one.

I thought the scenes were done great. The acting was spot on by all involved. In my opinion Laura Wright is acting the way a grieving mother would under the circumstances. Keep up the good work.

I thought these scenes were hatefully mean and completely unnecessary!! I’m trying to feel sorry for Carly here, I really am. But for her to attack Kiki, who did NOTHING to deserve it, was just hateful! Kiki owed Morgan nothing and she owed Carly even less. Morgan treated Kiki like shit and was responsible for getting her shot. I can’t figure out why Kiki even went to Carly’s house, knowing what she’s probably be facing. But more than that I just don’t know why those scenes were written at all.

Hi, Jenny,
The scenes were to show human struggles, I would think. And, at the risk of sounding repetitious, Carly attacked Kiki because she transferred her own guilt; her own grief into anger against everyone.
I, personally understand that pain, that anger.
So, these scenes were not in vain to those of us who have dealt with such a tragedy.
Laura’s performance made a lasting impression; and, not to just be ignored or swept under the rug as inconsequential.
But, of course, it is an individual feeling. This is just my take on this episode. And, I respect your opinion.

Jenny… I’m hugging you with this post.

Yes.. Yes… Yes

words to live by

Hayley Erin… who deserves all the laud and cheer for her acting… she’s dynamo

Kiki… is wowing me… from the time she took over as a recast… has catapulted her ACTING skill and mindset. CHEERS TO Hayley

any way.. Kiki was doing the right thing… by acknowledging the Corinthos.. how was she to know she’d be “shit” on… this is all a learning experience for our young ingénue…

like any young child… wracked with every emotion… guilt, love lost, love on the horizon etc

there you have it… she was merely wanting to express herself… and is trying to do the right thing… inarguably … besides Carly… ( ok, i’ll throw in Sonny ) but it’s KIKI who’s HURT. You know Morgan… he’d be pissed at his parents for dissing Kiki.

this is what I can’t stand… the writing for Ava… with regard to her relationship with the Corinthos is always on edge… she is given no respect. but…. I WOULD LOVE for Ava to just slay them both. this is her daughter… and Sonny and Carly are REELED for emmy nomination. bah hum bug. neither of them deserve one.

GH writers know what STARS they have in Maura West and Hayley Erin. their characters need to be OUT of the Corinthos orbit.

now… who was that black glove in the garbage can retrieving Morgans’ meds

one of these days… a good thrashing and just kick them to the curb… and diss them… they are no longer vital…. Carly and Sonny

Carly is cray cray : she’s no different than Sonny mob connect

even worse.

“you swore to me… that you’d stand by and support Morgan” ” you are a pathetic, petty, little girl, who broke my sons heart”

blah, blah, blah…. I have never heard a mother speak that way … that’s just pure evil.

I am done with Carly. till she apologizes.

just like Michael did to Kiki… Hayley Erin played all the beats on par. kudos to Kiki for displaying that. she was a perfect character for Michael and Carly to diss.

it just gnaws at me… that Ava is out of the loop… and is not shown fighting tooth and nail for her daughter… not that Kiki may want her help… even so as a viewer … if that was my child….. you know how it goes

it’s funny how any dialogue between Sonny and Carly where the majority of it should be… but it gives Sonny a let… Carly bellows and roars every time I look at you I see Morgan… there you have it… they never really have a connection as it is.

Carly is mad at the world… oh well… Ava and Kiki need to tell her to piss off

I agree with you. I have had a love/ hate relationship with Laura Wright’s Carly over the years. Lately it has been more love/like, but after yesterday’s tirade, I hate Carly (and that is credit to Laura Wright) …

Carly is just knocking it out of the park!

I know some dont like Sonny but his emotions are all over the place. No matter what comes out of his mouth, he knows he cannot change what was put in motion. His frustration on screen is magnificent!

And sweet Kiki. She was just fabulous today with Sonny and Carly. The actress has grown right before our eyes! I loved that Sonny comforted Kiki. He knows what Carly is doing and Sonny realizes that Kiki meant no harm and Kiki was there for Sonny when he wanted to see Avery when Ava was keeping her from him.. Sonny remembered that. Great stuff!

You got it, my Timmmy. You looked right into the heart of Carly, Sonny snd Kiki.
Didn’t I say I loved that sensitive quality in a guy? Well, that’s you. Luv-ya!!

Thank you honey. AND, The “Edsels?” Wow, you are an old soul in a young body and I love it!

I don’t want Morgan recast because that nollifies this great acting! Best o’ve seen on here in awhile!

I dont mind him staying dead. But, if they do a recast, maybe they will age him and the new actor will be decent?

agree Cheryl.

Speaking of Sonny, Timmmy…. isn’t he also on medication for the same disorder as Morgan? Is it ok for him to drink? Or does no mixing booze with the meds only apply to Morgan? Hmmmm.

That’s a good point CeeCee. Yes, Sonny has to stay on his meds…he gets verrrry self-destructive when he!s off them. And yet, he does have the occasional drink. I think at this time he’s spiraling…this is going to really wreck havoc on his mental state. But as for the drinking…never researched that. Maybe he is allowed a few drinks if they’re not mixed together at the same time…certain amount of hours apart.

Morgan replicated Sonny’s diagnosis and treatment. #1 is to stay on their meds. Ava eliminated that option for Morgan. Now there is concern for Sonny and his meds. But you know what Cee, would ever they are suppose to do, its a soap so I’m sure the opposite will occur. Look at Victor on Y&R, he had a heart transplant and NEVER has he had ONE issue with rejection AND he drinks all the time!

@Timmm.
Hi, Timmmy,
You know, I always forget about Victor’s living with Colleen’s heart. He is never sick; have never seen him take a pill; but, he certainly imbibes a lot, and is not mindful of his diet. Red meat?
Yeah, I also forget this is a soap, LOL. Maurice suffers from bipolar disorder, himself….and, we all know Sonny projects his real- life malady.
So, I asked my best medical ‘reference’….my husband.
He said that medication for bipolar disorder is administered to control certain ‘high’, out-of-control impulses….even the occational drink can have an adverse, mental effect. These are, afterall, mind-altering meds. I am assuming, Sonny was drinking Coke?? LOL..
Rebecca does have a point. Depending how far apart the ‘pill’ and the drink are spaced. That, too, depends on the strength of the medication, and on the lucidity and responsibility of the patient himself/herself. But, better to stsy away from alcohol altogether.
Frankly, Timmmy, I think TPTB forgot about Sonny’ s disorder….or, we are simply taken for granted.

The Kiki-Carly performance was flawless. Hayley has fit well into the role of Kiki. IMO Laura Wright is the best actress on GH.

This is why I love Sonny! He knows KiKi didn’t want Morgan dead. He knows Carly is way over the top, right now.

Haley did an outstanding job in these scenes alongside the always incredible Laura Wright!

I t was a great scene acted out beautifully by all involved , I really felt for Kiki and you could feel sonnys pain in that scene too like I said all great performances.

It was hard to watch in a good way!
I understood Carly’s emotional response as a grieving mother and it was pure Carly. Laura Wright has had nothing to work with for quite awhile so im glad she gets something to sink her teeth into and shine. Great scenes.

And to no one’s surprise, the doom and gloom that is GH continues…

Yes, there may be good acting involved, but the overriding plan of GH to make heroes out of murderers, to try to evoke empathy for unsympathetic, despicable characters, to keep the darkness on full throttle is overplayed and tiresome…

Well said, James, my friend.
I tried to emphasize that very point; but sometimes it’s for naught since it does not resonate with the reader.
Inasmuch as I understand the pain and guilt, I did say that I do not feel pity, at this point, for Sonny or Ava. A killer is a killer is a killer. I felt a twinge, at first….but, no more than that.
Murder is still in Sonny’s head. I could hear it in his voice as he spoke to Scotty. Morgan’s death should have made him meek. But, his arrogance and the need to hurt is stronger than his love and grief. I can understand shifting blame when one is in pain…but, threats to kill is a horse of a different color. I draw the line there.
It’s his make-up, who he is! The same goes for Ava. ( ‘gotta’ give kudos to both Maurice and Maura, though).
They only have contrition because it affects them….other than that? There is an empty space where the heart and soul should be.
Later, James.

Nice to hear from you, Celia! Thanks for your remarks and further explanation. I think I’ve made my feelings clear repeatedly on the GH situation (Sonny, Mob, no repercussions, darkness, etc), and perhaps some feel that my own remarks are “overplayed and tiresome,” but something inside me compels me to fight this fight, negative though I may seem. Thanks for understanding me and my position. Your commentary, here and elsewhere, is terrific and insightful, as always.

Take care, Friend! 🙂

Hayley Erin and Laura Wright were amazing in that scene.

First of all I know people with bipolar and you don’t have to act like you are walking on eggs around them. Morgan acted like everyone should be careful of his feelings. No one should do or say anything that might upset him. Kiki actually had the right to break up with him, without fear that he might become violent or jump off a bridge, OR take a car and crash it up. He acted like a two year old with his tantrums and they treated him like one! I could not stand the guy.

I was not a fan of Morgan, myself, Violet. But, to be fair, he acted the way he did because Ava messed with his pills.
Are you talking about before this debacle? If so, yes, you’re right. No one should be compelled to act a certain way because of his disorder. I thought it was counterproductive?
So, Kiki had every right to break up with him, if that was her wish, without worrying about his reaction. She was not his sitter.
However, we can’t predict human emotion….Kiki does feel responsible; and, that’s just sad.

I tend to agree with you, Violet. And while I understand Carly’s irrational involuntary, reflexive reaction to her grief and guilt, I felt she was horrifically emotionally abusive to Kiki.
Kiki took a bullet for Morgan and in so doing, saved his life. When she recovered she was basically ordered by Mama Bear Corrinthos to stand by her son. as if Morgan was incapable of standing on his own two feet. Basically, her reward for saving Morgan’s life was to be sentenced to a life of being Morgan’s caretaker. But no one, including Carly, asked what Kiki wanted. She was to sacrifice her life for the greater good of Morgan.
On another subject, while I cannot stand Sonny, I thought Carly was completely unfair to exclude him from Morgan’s funeral arrangements as it is a case of too little, too late. The time to extricate herself and her children from Sonny’s circle of danger was after Michael was shot in the head which put him in a coma for a year.
I know she blames herself, as well as she should. But her beating up on poor Kiki was like Godzilla taking on Bambi and it was hard to watch. I detest Carly.
That said, I am not faulting the writing or the actress–both of the aforementioned were true to life and nicely conceived and executed.

Great post Addison.

He didn’t act like that when his meds were working. He was volatile before he was diagnosed and when Ava took them away. He was on his way to a balanced life and that’s what made it all the more tragic.

Dear Rebecca 1:

Today when Carly smacked the shit out of Julian, I felt myself exhale. Now that was Carly at her best.
I seem to have a great love and hate relationship with Carly with which she is blissfully unaware.

LOL Addison…I do too but to be honest I usually want to smack HER when she gets all smug and judgey … usually worse than the people she’s judging. And…I never forgave her for the way she treated AJ. Hahaha…Julian caught off guard and Alexis chuckling when Carly swung…love Alexis.

“…Morgan acted like everyone should be careful of his feelings. ”

I don’t know If I believe this…

it’s like WOW… because they could utilize Bryan Craig presence… and the camera truly does love his looks… he’s the perfect 18-49 plus demographic

I’ve never seen a character so bludgeoned… literally to death

Morgan was trying to live out his life till the right dosage took hold… it was perfectly “acceptable” to watch him coping with what was happening… and ultimately beyond his control. drama for a one hour show… was filled to the gills.

from the time they made Bryan Craig deal with this… it was CONSTANT bludgeon from Sonny / Carly / Kiki… whomever called him on it…

“did you take your meds” that was played out over and over. I could understand that Morgan would be so frustrated and even angry @ Sonny / Carly / Kiki…

this is a lot of drama for Carly and Sonny to hold on to… what do Jean and Shelley have up their sleeve…. ??? the comeuppance and death of Ava… she’s the most riveting and compelling actor

Still wishin’ that the car bomb (or Paul for that matter) had rid Port Charles of Kiki…

HAHAHAHAHAHA, me too, filler at best.

This show is a complete fast forward for me these days.

Laura Wright is a good actress but for me Carly is the poster child for poor life choices and completely unsympathetic with her devotion to a career criminal who has put her and her children in danger time and time again. She’s quick to point the finger of blame at everyone but herself for being a bad mother who raised her children in an environment that glorified violence (and her inevitable reunion with Sonny will just serve to underscore how little value she puts on anyone but him).

If it weren’t for Maura West’s tortured and self destructive Ava I wouldn’t even watch any more.

I agree, 100%.

GH is in a better place writing wise..But so predictable!! Charlotte is actually Lulu’s daughter!! No mother will ever just up and run and leave their daughter behind..She cares, but she is SO NOT the mom!! Good twist GH writers!!

LW is doing great work, but Jelly’s writing continues to be an ordeal to watch. No subtlety or nuance, just one clunky, obnoxious plot point after another. I don’t know how FV and the higher-ups at ABC can go on supporting this. They need to bring in writers who truly understand GH and its characters in a way that Jelly are just not capable of doing. They also need to stop allowing certain actors (and I think we all know to whom I’m referring) to dictate the show’s creative direction. Portraying Sonny as the moral center of this show absurd and offensive. I feel absolutely no sympathy or compassion for this smarmy thug.

Text book narcissist- Sonny.

– Jean and Shelley – do not know… how to write for men.

sexual appetite is:

across the board appeal ; in spades ; loaded ; can lunch with everyone in the cast

why would they go and fire the best of the best ?

Morgan / Nicholas / Joe / Paul

I don’t get it

This is all such a waste if the village idiot Corinthos kid returns from the dead with a new face. Why do I even watch? However, Maurice Benard, Laura Wright, and Maura West-all amazing performances, as usual.

LOL! Loving the performances but I have to agree with you, keep Morgan dead.

Not watching and now I know why this clip I took two aspirins and a glass of water for a headache / from the constant screaming spitting god awful over acting! This guy better be dead!!!!

Hi k/Kay…I’m with you on your comment. It might be great acting all around but I am soooo tired of all the dark “great acting,” starting with Fluke. Isn’t there happy “great acting” more in the style of what soap operas used to offer…romance, adventure, fun, lbetrayals, legacy families and their offspring (you do need new characters and actors but somehow nice if they can tie them in), bad guys/girls getting punished for mis-deeds once in a while?

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
