Days Of Our Lives
Hank Northrop, the Son of Wayne Northrop and Lynn Herring, Lands Role on Days of our Lives
In a very full circle moment, Hank Northrop, the real-life son of the late Days of our Lives favorite, Wayne Northrop (ex-Roman) and General Hospital’s Lynn Herring (Lucy), is following in his parents footsteps and has booked a role on the Peacock streaming soap opera.
Northrop, who is a professional actor, will arrive on-screen in a role that is being kept under wraps and will be seen late this year on the series since DAYS tapes nine months ahead of air. Hank shared the news of his Days of our Lives gig with TV Insider, and how emotional landing the role actually was, especially following the death of his father.
As previously reported, Wayne Northrop passed away from his battle with Alzheimer’s disease back back on November 29th, 2024 at the age of 77. Wayne played the original Roman Brady from 1981-1984 and again in 1991-1994 and had one of the most popular love stories in DAYS history with Deidre Hall (Marlena). He later rejoined DAYS in 2005-2006 as Dr. Alex North, a one-time medical school classmate of Marlena’s.

Hank received word he booked the part on his birthday on January 9th of this year: “I got the call saying, ‘Congratulations, you’ve booked Days of our Lives.’ And I just immediately broke down in tears. It was so cosmic. It was almost like my dad had given me a birthday present, the first birthday after his passing, to help me through the trauma of dealing with his passing. You can’t script it. It gave me the ability to cope with it a little more. It was just such a beautiful full-circle moment.”
When Hank arrives on-screen in Salem, he will be appearing with another DAYS legend, Daytime Emmy-winner James Reynolds (Abe). Northrop recalled, “First of all, it was so cool because he and my dad had such a great working relationship, and they didn’t tell him that I was coming on to work with him. So when I saw him for the first time, he just lit up. My dad always said, ‘James has the best laugh you’ll ever hear,’ and I finally got to hear it in person. This man just lights up the room. He was so kind to me. We honestly couldn’t stop hugging each other.”
As to how his mom GH’s Lynn Herring and the former Lisanne Gardner of DAYS reacted to the news of Hank’s role, he expressed, “She is ecstatic. She wants to scream it from the rooftops. She has been so supportive. She gave me so much great advice before my first day and gave me so many tips heading into it. She’s been the best support system I could possibly ask for. I feel so privileged and so honored to have her in my life.”
So, what do you think of Hank Northrop booking a role on DAYS in a heart-tugging moment to also honor the legacy of his late father? Comment below.
For the love of all that’s unholy, they better not connect this new character to the “Alex North” fiasco in any way, shape, or form. If ReRon was still writing this show, you could bet your soul that is exactly what they WOULD do. (as in, this current weak and pointless character that is calling himself “Doug Williams III” )
Alex North was one of the worst mistakes Days ever made, and it’s an eternally damned shame that ended up being Wayne Northrop’s last appearance on Days.
Hopefully Hank will get a character that can stand on his own, and not be part of a dumb revisionist history gimmick.
Omgosh get a life
I would tell you to go to Hell, but the demons would go on strike.
Boy, you said it!!! If Jim Reilly created it, Ron Carlivati would be the FIRST to try to revisit it!! I swear Rkn was somehow Jim reincarnated! I stopped watching the show during Jim’s reign of terror, and I stopped watching Days a few years ago around the time they made Craig gay and murdered Abigail.
And the constant doppelganger, look-like, mask, back from the dead stories … Just repetitive foolish nonsense. Nothing to invest in emotionally!
I remember back in 2002 when Paula Cwikly and Peter Brash took over writing … I LOVED the show! They have a very laid back writing style that focuses on core characters, real emotion, and just enough of the campiness that DAYS viewers have come to expect.
This show has at least TEN characters I can think of off the top of my head that are just dead weight. Cutting the budget on this show would be the easiest thing in the world for a new regime!! Take that misspent money and get back characters we know and love!
Hank is a hunk
He can come to GH any day. He would make a great doctor who could draw Lucas’s attention.
Another DiMera or Horton? Tyler Kiriakis? An Alamain or another Devereux? Days needs something to bring it back to life. RERON for all his critics was at least entertaining.
It’s still Ron’s material airing right now.
Kicking this one back up… because in light of other recent news….
Hank looks like a potential Chad DiMera recast?
Coincidence, or… did a Devil crack the code again?

ARE SOAP MORE RELEVANT IN 2026?
With the daytime soaps being mentioned in the mainstream of late, including a recent New York Times essay, Ryan Gosling’s high praise of Days of Our Lives icon Deidre Hall (Marlena), Late night host, John Oliver asking to be cast on a soap after doing a bit on his show, it seems daytime drama may be culturally relevant again, or is it really?

Join us with your comments and questions for Sheri in the live chat, as we talk the pros and cons of today’s daytime soap opera and daytime television landscape and delve into Sheri’s soap writing history and the characters she created or had a penchant for and learn about her new endeavors and outside projects.
