Former As the World Turns star Hugo Napier, where he played Gunnar Stenbeck and became a fan favorite, is now set to return to another of his old soap stomping grounds, General Hospital!

Napier had portrayed Larry Ashton- the former flame of Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) and the father to Ned Ashton (Wally Kurth) – and according to Soap Opera Digest today, a GH rep has confirmed Napier is set to reprise his role on the ABC soap opera!

Larry Ashton was part of the Port Charles canvas in 1988-89 and again in 1991-92.   Napier also appeared on All My Children.

So what do you think brings Hugo and his alter ego Larry Ashton back to the fold in story on GH?  Share your thoughts below!

say hello to the fake luke

I was wondering the same thing…i commented back in Feb. that i thought fluke was Jerry but now it sounds like it could be Larry…but did he have a grudge against Sonny…i didnt watch when he was on before!!!

He sure looks like the Fluke Luke that has been causing havoc there.

No, Lord Ashton has no beef with Sonny.

Sonny wasn’t even on the show when he appeared last.

Larry was last on the show in 1991, he was co-head of the Cartel with Cesar Faison, Harlan Barrett, and Leopold Taub that… tried to get ELQ! (In order to mass-produce cardon disulfide so they could kill foreign dignitaries to take over the world, but I digress) Who knows if he’ll still be evil or if he’s just returning for Tracy and/or Ned. If I remember he was always broke.

By “1991” I mean no, he has no beef with Sonny because Sonny arrived in 1993.

that is exactly what I was thinking “faux Luke!” ha!

1991 – wow that was ages ago, but great that they’re bringing in another Q relation…

and where the heck is Monica? She has to show up at the hospital sometime soon! ;=)

and I just saw she’s there now! 🙂

Hmm …interesting,I wonder how Lord Larry (yes he is an actual Lord) is going to fit into the current storyline.

Just read info on Hugo ‘s Lord Larry – I stand corrected he was not the true heir.

Ive been waiting for this! Thanks

I’m so happy that he is coming back and the Q Family is getting stronger again . hope he stay’s for a long time … a good match for Monica 🙂

Will they even write for Monica…she’ll probably be in just a handful of episodes during Jasons storyline then probably disapear for another 6 months…lol

Yeah. What’s up with that? Don’t shoot me if I’m wrong by weeks or months, but I think Leslie is the longest running actor on GH. Pretty sure she was there before Genie Francis even. So why can’t they get her involved in some storyline. Cartini talks a good game about respecting the shows veterans, but I’m not seeing it.

Oh, wouldn’t that drive Tracy nuts?!? Ha! Ha! Very interesting possibility.

He could be Fake Luke or it could be Valentine Cassadine.

OMG Tracey is going to SH.. herself! Plus, I loved him and Wally Kurth together. Thank you.

I did not watch during the years he was on. Does he hate Sonny and Tracy? Could he be Fluke?

He had nothing to do with the mob. His stories were ELQ related. You will like him. Another great actor on GH!

OK
I checked good and he was a bad guy!!!!
Larry formed a cartel with Harlan Barrett, Leopold Taub and”’ Cesar Faison ”’ in order to control global business with carbon disulfide, a toxic substance.
His cartel forced ELQ CEO Paul Hornsby to marry Tracy Quartermaine and take control of her ELQ stock, killing her if he must. The cartel was soon busted up on Founder’s Day by the PCPD and the substance was destroyed.
I am going to love this guy!!!!!!

ohhh and this !!!!
Lord Larry was looking for a long-lost Chinese civilization he needed a key dubbed the Dragon Bone to find the civilization, and he needed an emerald and a map.
Tracy, his ex-wife also wanted to get rich and blackmailed Larry into giving her and their son Ned a share of the profits when the the lost civilization was found.
Seems he found the key/the Dragon Bone because it was buried by Robert Scorpio’s dog Friday lol and apparently never found…………and then the quest fizzled out.

The best still is; Larry formed a cartel with Cesar Faison ..
that is good!!! — lights camera ACTION!!

He was comic relief for at least the later part of it, which I watched. After he was revealed as not the heir, he was a hanger-on with the Quartermaines because he was broke. Then he left town, then he was revealed as a cartel head, but he was in barely a couple weeks’ worth of episodes regarding that. It was like, “He’s one of the heads!” but I don’t think anybody ever found out. Robert and Anna ran into him on their honeymoon in France if I recall.

SU000 is rrrr…..rrrrrrrrrrr…….rrrrrrrrr….(deep breath)….SU000 is RIGHT. There, I said it. Yes, indeedy, Lord Ashton was part of the axis of evil which included Harlon Barrett (Brenda’s father) and Faison. Ashton might hate Sonny because he took over as Kingpin of Port Charles. Sonny has always been anti drug and Sonny waged war on anyone trying to import/smuggle drugs into Port Charles.
I am grasping a bit here trying to Ashton connect with Sonny somehow.
However, I still think Fluke is Bill Eckert and that this recent inflex of villains from the past are red herrings designed to distract the viewer from the notion that Fluke really is Bill Eckert.

I’m sure he is the fake Luke.

If he is, that would not make sense as Lord Ashton has no reason to hate Sonny. Sonny was not yet a character on GH when Lord Ashton was around.
Having said that, love this actor and I hope his comeback is afforded with some decent writing.

He fits the stature of Luke but Mr. Ashton had nothing to do with Sonny or the mob. I still think Fluke is Damian Smith or Faith Roscoe. I know, he sounds nothing like a woman but I dont know who else it is other than Bill Eckert.

Well, you know how the cartel is especially when Larry Ashton and Cesar Faison, and Faison does hate Sonny, are after something or someone..
Being Larry started a cartel with Faison, be ready for anything to come..

what is going to be good is Ned in this story being ;
Larry is the father of Ned Ashton, and that is exciting ..

Good points from you both, however, GH stopped making sense with its decisions long ago… LOL!! I still LOVE the show nonetheless. When Hugo Napier first played Larry Ashton from 1988-89, Anthony Geary was off the show, but when Hugo reprised the role from 1991-92, Anthony was playing Bill Eckert at the time. I can’t recall if Bill Eckert had any dealings with Larry Ashton. With Larry being Tracy’s ex-husband, anything is possible there. Lord knows GH can put its spin on anything! Damian Smith was killed by Justus Ward with a swift blow to the head. If he is alive, they’d have to pull another ridiculous stunt like him having been frozen like Jason, Helena, and Stavros. That would push the envelope a little too far. Faith Rosco is unlikely too, although I can’t recall what happened to her. Did Michael kill her by accident? Let’s just hope the fake Luke reveal will be worth the wait!

It has to be Bill… or someone else who lost a kid… One time “Fluke” was counting his money and talking to the air, like, “It’s not wrong that I make some money off this too, is it?” The impression I had was it was someone who died. Then I realized that Sly Eckert, Lucky and Carly’s cousin, has never shown up. Bill supposedly died in Luke’s arms at the hands of Frank Smith, whom Sonny worked for, and if Sly died sometime too, that would work.

I agree Erick. Plus Bill Eckert was also in on the toxic chemical cartel with Larry Ashton, Faison and Harlan Barrett towards the end. Fluke was shown talking about the Barretts early on in the story too which is what led some of us to speculate he was Bill Eckhart early on. It’s possible the vendetta against Sonny is just a red herring– not actually personal but simply Sonny standing in the way of their drug cartel. Basically just a mob turf war. Or you could be right that Sonny’s mob activities played some sort of role in Sly Eckhart’s death. That would explain it all quite nicely.

Joel, remember Bill Eckert was romantically involved with Julia Barrett, Brenda’s big sister and Harlan Barrett’s daughter.
There does seem to be sixteen degrees of separation here.
KM–your explanation makes a lot of sense.

Larry Ashton/Hugo Napier .. wow could he know who ‘Fluke is?
I am happy Tracy and Ned will be in the spotlight!!
I’m looking forward to his return!!
I love that GH gives me something new and exciting!!
It is fun to have new people/stories to look forward to!! This one connect to Tracy and Ned..
I have never heard of nor seen Larry however since he is connected to Tracy and Ned, it will be stirring, no doubt..

Like I said, I dont think Larry has any grudges with Sonny BUT Fluke being Larry would freak Tracy out! I hope not since Fluke is evil and I want Ned to have a father on the show and I want ELQ story lines!

GH craft services must be worse than hospital food. With all the money they spend on more cast members, recurring and day players, I don’t know how they could possibly have any money in the budget for anything else.

All the vets who return to thrill us are not under contract and are usually short stay therefore not an actual ”cast member”
their return keep things lively, interesting, exciting and bring big new stories with them….. and they do not break the bank..
If bring him or others on for stay were not Ok’ed in the budget they would not be brought in..
Larry, a vet and not a regular cast member will give loved Tracy and Ned a big story….and that is good thing..
I would like if Larry were added to the now GH cast..
His return is exciting, I like it a lot ..

Something old something new all in one package !! … 🙂

I started watching in 1994, so this character is before my time. But I’ve always heard about Lord Ashton, so it will be cool to see Ned’s father after all these years. Wally Kurth has always been one of my favorites, and of course the incomparable Jane Elliot, so anything to give them more screen time is a plus in my book.

Frank and Ron are sure reaching into the GH archives to bring some of these characters back, lol. But I’m enjoying the hell out of it! You never know what blast from the past might show up next.

Don’t FrankenRon have any ideas of their own. Seems like all the swill they throw at us is just wash, rinse and repeat. repeat with their changes. I loved Hugo N on Atwts .Loved him with Barbara, and his real James Stenbeck. I sort of remember him as Ned’s father. This show is so bad lately I have trouble caring at all.

Okay..I just had the time of my life pulling up Lord Ashton’s Halloween Party on General Hospital on youtube! Wow!! Lord Ashton was there, who I don’t remember but is going to be a trip! Old Ned Kurt McKinney! Old school. It also features a young, young Tracy and a glimpse of Anna way back in 1i990. Oh my, and everyone’s missing Robert in that clip and another one with Cheryl because Robert’s out of town on business..AGAIN! Some things never change! Maybe he was in Genoa City!

Laurie, Lord Ashton was really charismatic and handsome–was he not?
I DO miss Robert Scorpio with the heat of a thousand suns. There is a rumor out there suggesting that he will come back to GH if Y&R does not renew his contract.
Since Y&R failed yet again to make good use of his crackling talent and easy charm, I hope he DOES come back to GH. He really is the only man for Anna and I think Holly will be coming back too.

Dr. Obrecht did lie to Nathan and told him that Victor was his father. She then killed victor after he found out that Nathan really isn’t his son. She said that Nathan needs to believe that Victor is his child because the truth is far worse. Larry Ashton seems to be far worse to me. What if he is Nathan’s really father. She probably kept him away from Larry because it would have ruined her chances with Faison. I just realized that if this is true then Nathan and Ned would be brothers.

That seems plausible, and if turns out Fluke is really this Ashton character, maybe he raped Dr. O, because we’ ve seen with Kiki this is the type of guy who would do something like that. It might explain why she gave Nathan to her sister as well.

So excited to hear that Gunnar St.Clair from ATWT is returning to GH! What a hunk!

His time on the show is actually a gap (one of the only) in my GH watching days. So personally I can think of other off the canvas characters from back in the day I would want to see back– but that’s just me. I do love the idea of seeing Ned interact with his dad so that will be fun. And I’m glad this is news of a previous character/soap actor instead of someone we don’t know coming in to play another Felix/Nathan character.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
