Important Message For Site Posters: Unacceptable Comments & Guidelines

Over the last several weeks, On-Air On-Soaps has seen an alarming increase in hostile comments from site posters that are violating guidelines set by this site. Many of these comments lack human decency, are out of line, and completely disrespectful to the feelings of others.

These comments have turned off site visitors and fans, who would also like to participate and share their views about what people have to say in the specific topic being discussed in a post.  To be clear: the initial starting question for discussion in a post is generated by me at the end of each news post.  That is what site posters should be paying attention to when posting a comment, which starts a “thread”, if you will, to open up the discussion.

The moderators have been trying valiantly to keep up with: the constant influx of negativity, insults hurled at one another by the posters (which has become a chronic condition), and the offensive way in which people are feeling a sense of entitlement that they can post snide and contrite comments, and that this behavior is acceptable.

The moderators have tried multiple ways to diffuse the situation: not allowing others who have been attacked to fire back and thus not approving their comment, allowing the comments in the hope of putting in end to the conversation between two posters and resolving the conflict, and not approving the offensive comment at all.  However, nothing has tempered the situation.

I would like each of you to remember this: I work very hard to bring you the content I do every day, and I cannot, and will not, have my brand tarnished, because some posters are making it impossible for others to enjoy the content and scaring away other people from wanting to participate.  In addition, the site regulars have to also watch their step – the constant back and forth with each other is not on point with the topic discussed in an individual post.

So it’s up to all of you, the beloved community members of On-Air On-Soaps.  Are you going to help us clean up this village?  We need your help.  We value everyone’s right to an opinion, and welcome them to post, and want them to enjoy doing so, but it can’t be at the expense of others.

So here are the posting guidelines so there is no misunderstanding:

  • There will not be any offensive or rude comments about actors on this site.   This also extends to personal attacks on writers and producers, and behind the scenes personnel.  If you want to comment on the character they play, or a storyline they write, or a show they produce, and you are not happy with that is one thing, but attacking them personally, is another.  These are real human beings treat them as such. They not a punching bag or a butt of a joke.

  • Continuing to post ad nauseum the same thing over and over again: example: comments on the character of Alexis Davis.

  • Anti-gay, racism, bigotry, and any intolerant comments for human beings will immediately be disapproved.

  • Going off-topic: please do not make a side thread of comments unrelated to the main discussion as it becomes an unreadable experience for people to have to sift through when they just want to know about the comments on the topic and people’s point of view on it.

  • Any poster who continues to incite other posters with verbal attacks will be blocked from commenting on this site permanently.

Thank you for reading this, and I hope you will take a moment to hit your own personal reset button, and let’s enjoy the soaps and have fun with it together, and not tear each other down in the process.

Xo’s

Michael

I second this. Lately, I come to the site just to read the articles & excellent interviews that Mr. Fairman does. Don’t spend much time in the Comment section anymore because of all the ugliness that people write. It doesn’t illuminate anything about the subject matter, and just makes soap opera fans look half-crazed. It’s television, people! You know – optional entertainment. It’s supposed to be viewed for your enjoyment. If it’s a punching bag that you need or want to expel your frustrations upon, go to the gym. You’ll be much healthier for it.

I just want to add one thing is not cool to personal attack the writers and producers and staff of shows these are real people doing their jobs as best they can and some way harsh hurtful things been hurled about plus I asked a gal on here if she wanted to get coffee that was way off I guess too shoot. Peace. Out. Thanks to moderators would buy you all cocktails if I could and MF too.

Converting writers;
It is their writing being criticized- fair game .

Jean and Shelley’s writing stinks = writing comment
Jean and Shelly; their looks or family etc, personal is not fair game.

Thank you for this. I have several friends from the other side that I have made in groups who I sit and debate for hours and it never gets personal or rude. I have no idea why anyone would take this show so seriously that you have to act like you hate someone because they like a different thing than you.

Thank you, Sherri. That has been my premise from the start. I only joined two years ago while convalescing after the trying delivery of my baby. I offered my opinions and was attacked. Stubborn, as I am known to be, I responded by defending myself, never offending; unless it got really ‘wild’ and responded in kind, with a modicum of respect. To be honest, I had intimated that I was not going to participate on the GH site, after being cornered. However, Shay and Timmm gave me pep-talks and I stayed. But, the barrage of insults kept coming. I truly… Read more »

Hello, Rebecca.
In my response to Shay ( which did not make it on the board), I did apologize to you for my part in carrying things too far. We did hit it off at the beginning, and, as ridiculous as this may sound, I know that, even after the ugly words and disputes, you never doubted my or Shay’s gender. LOL. Laughable, isn’t it? You also warned me about my naiveté.
Coming to this site has become a COMEDY OF ERRORS. I hope you take these words as they are. Truth. Stay well.

Thank you CeeCee but I have my likes & dislikes as everyone else does and from time to time I will vent about them. If I find someone else being attacked by a fellow blogger I stand by them instead of keeping my nose on my face, & letting the moderators do their jobs. As I said, Nikki. Yes, many of us are guilty of making negative remarks about the characters with whom we have an antipathy. But, never have you said anything offensive to or about a fellow-poster.
I have not noticed anyone doing so on Y&R.
I agree, we should be able to opine, but giving great regard to characters….I will comment with respect from now on, if I remain.
As yourself, I always stand by any other fellow-poster who is abused on these sites. Having been on the receiving end by only ONE poster, I know what it feels like. Later, Nikki.

Thanks Michael, this is a post that it’s a shame you had to make on your own site, but one that was unfortunately long overdue. To be perfectly honest, I have stopped coming here as often as I used to, because quite frankly I can’t stand the constant negativity. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and has the right to express those opinions, but when it’s the same negative thoughts day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, by the same small group of people, it gets really tiresome. I am sure you are friends with several people in the industry that read your column. It is not a great feeling to read negative comments or personal attacks. I have learned that people hide behind their computers and feel free to make nasty comments, knowing they will not have to ever face the person face-to-face. As soap fans, sometimes people forget that actors have feelings just like everyone else. It is not fair to speculate on an actor’s personal life, no matter how much we feel like we know them. I agree that making personal comments about actors is totally rude and out of bounds. But what about comments on their acting? In the same way that I think we should be allowed to comment on the quality of the writing, I think it is also fair game to talk about the quality of the acting. My one exception would be kid actors. I think everything should be done to respect and protect them and I would never post a negative comment about a kid’s acting. I let it slide, but was becoming increasingly aware of other posters who crossed this person the wrong way and ended up getting lambasted….I even called out one especially disturbing episode that involved a friend. In the meantime, CeeCee hopped onboard and we subsequently became quick and fond acquaintances…soon after… Read more »

Beautiful and truthful piece of writing, Shay. However, do not kid yourself. Have you read some of the above comments directed at me? Names which only surface in times like these. Cause you know…I can think the same thing…maybe the handful of people who came out of nowhere are you…or your friends…or family? How do I know? Cyber bullying has become ridiculously rampant, even on these soap sites. Why I only look at a few of the pages anymore, because so many hav such an insane amount of crazy haters. Thanks Michael. You are by far at the top of the list of soap pages I read and for others to is disrespect you with bad behavior is just unacceptable. I say BLOCK them, immediately and stop it in is tracks. Wow!!!! I never had any contact with cyber bullying until I joined several daytime soap opera discussion groups. Fans can get vicious and personal if another fan attacks their favorite character. I try to ignore a poster or thread when this happens.

You hit the nail on the head, Lou. MF on air is my only ” social media” , and it does boggle the mind to fixate on one particular character. Hopefully, ‘things’ will be done with a touch of class, from now on. Mr. Fairman deserves that.

Excellent advice, Lou, but sometimes that isn’t enough when the bullying is persistent, obsessive and long-standing….On both this website, as well as in real life, I’ve always chosen to freeze out such individuals by failing to acknowledge them with a response and simply pretending that they don’t exist, however, when someone refuses to be ignored, the situation is out of your hands.

I would lovingly suggest that the uber-posters on here consider a brief sabbatical. Also, cigarettes have a warning and limits on advertising and now states provide quit-smoking assist as they do for lottery fans that have spent the rent. A help-line on-line for soap fans- perhaps sponsored by the networks that will allow these folks to spew their vitriol- get it all out- but they must also then listen to a licensed professional counselor and if necessary to switch to a sulfate-free lifestyle and to work out the penchant to incite and attack anonymously with perhaps knitting or have a… Read more »

I respectfully disagree. Michael Fairman is a real person and Geoffrey-Martin Cyr. So what if we all had to post on here from a Facebook account? Mr. Fairman, I rarely comment, but read them sometimes. Most of what you stated is understandable. However, part of leaving comments is to agree or disagree with said article or other comments regarding the article based on one’s opinion. Many times that is a negative opinion. A soap website can’t be all lollipops and rainbows. The content of the shows don’t allow this. If only the characters of the soaps can be discussed and not the actors, directors, etc then the discussions will be incomplete. I am not talking about a bunch of dirty name calling. Many of the actors,… Read more »

Mr. Fairman,

Thanks for trying to remove comments that just attack others. Sometimes I get so frustrated with Y&R and B&B story lines. These shows are supposed to be entertaining. Days of our Lives Returns To Production After Temporary Halt Amid COVID-19

UPDATED:  According to Deadline  the cast and crew of NBC’s Days of our Lives will actually be returning tomorrow, October 20th to begin taping ahead of schedule after a positive Covid-19 test shut production down originally scheduled for two weeks.

The outlet cited, “Following a thorough investigation including contact tracing, quarantines, testing, and a deep cleaning of the studio, the health and safety experts at Days of our Lives have determined that it was safe to return to production before the end of the two-week period. As a result, the show will be back on set tomorrow Oct 20.”

The word of the early return initially got out Monday, although at that time unconfirmed by the show, apparently, via a posting by Lauren Koslow on her Instagram account where she is pictured in a Kate Roberts outfit in her dressing room.

Koslow shared: “Stepping into Monday in alice + olivia black velvet,” She also tagged the post #dressingroomselfie and the words. “Stay strong.”

She also added a quote from poet Maya Angelou: “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.”

So, happy to hear it seems like DAYS is back … once again? Comment below!

Kristian Alfonso Bids Farewell to DAYS as Final Episode Airs Today Sharing; “Thank YOU From The Bottom Of My Heart For Welcoming Me Into Your Homes All Of These Years”

Wednesday, October 14th, 2020 marks the final appearance of Kristian Alfonso’s iconic run as Hope Williams on NBC’s Days of our Lives, a role she played on and off for more than 37 years.  Make no mistake about it, Alfonso was a staple of Salem and the DAYS family since she made her debut back in 1983.

However, over the summer viewers learned she would not be returning to the show when the series began production again in September, after she was told they were planning on resting the character of Hope for five months or so.  A decision that prompted Kristian to make a decision to leave the show for good and start a new chapter in her life.

To celebrate her run and to say a thank you to everyone at the show and her enduring fans, Kristian posted a video on her Instagram account of some backstage moments through the years to the tune of “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life”.  She accompanied her post with these words of thanks to everyone that has been by her side every step of the way:  “Being today is my last airshow, I wanted to share some of my favorite memories onset & behind the scenes I hope you enjoy it.  Thank YOU from the bottom of my heart for welcoming me into your homes all of these years.  And making me a part of your lives #xoxo ❤️  Thank you Ken & @nbcuniversal @nbc for a #beautiful #ride . #❤️ #😘”

James Scott Comments: “I Will Never. Never. Never. Never. Never, Go Back to Hollywood Let Alone DOOL”

Those hoping that finally James Scott would return to his signature daytime soap role of EJ DiMera on Days of our Lives, now that Alison Sweeney is on her way back to the show this fall for a longer run as Sami, can count those hopes now dashed and for good.

In a post on his Instagram account for his meditation and contemplations Sunday morning Zoom series and website, Scott posed with Deepak Chopra.  When a fans posted a comment in the IG account how they miss him on DAYS and to come back with Sami, James replied, “Hi – thanks for joining me here. Please know that I will never. Never. Never. Never. Never. Go back to Hollywood let alone DOOL. There is notbing interesting there for me. J”

Fan favorite James Scott, who has been MIA from the acting profession for awhile now is running The Whisper Within – and as detailed by the website, Scott explains how he left acting to be more involved with meditation and helping others find inner-peace – “In 2014, after a successful career in the entertainment industry, I found myself with everything and nothing.  I had money, celebrity, and status and the grief to match it. I had worked tirelessly for the better part of two decades to attain wealth and validation, yet no external thing could touch the emptiness I felt and the worthlessness I experienced.  I knew that something unknown wished to be known—something I could feel only through its apparent absence. In my despair and depression, I faced a simple choice: to change my lived experience or to end it. One felt impossible; the other easy I had already spent so much time reading self-help books, attending workshops and retreats, drinking concoctions with shamans, exploring tantra and abstaining from sex all together, dancing and singing, and many more practices, which had done little or nothing to abate the loneliness.

Desperate and in despair, still seeking, still suffering, I found my way to an Indian meditation center. I went for a week and stayed for a year. It was there in my own reflection that I found the teacher I had been seeking silently waiting to be known. At first, there was rage and anger, but eventually the intensity of the fire burned low and sadness took its place. I cried and cried until I cried myself empty and something new arose: beneath it all, I discovered a newfound peace. Like a fragrance arising from deep within, I heard the sound of the silence that can never be spoken: the eternal wisdom of the whisper within.  To live from this place is my practice and my path. To inspire others to do the same is my purpose.”

So, what do you think about James’ comments and path that he has now gone down for his life?  Do you think its time for DAYS to finally re-cast EJ? Comment below.
