Next week it’s the start of the big promotional blitz for season four of Downton Abbey here in the United States and it kicks-off in New York City with two marketing stunts!

The first is PBS Masterpiece Classic will bring one of the characters’ favorite pastimes to life in New York City with a mobile tea truck the week of December 9th.

Complete with costumed servers, the truck will be stationed at a different location every day, giving out free tea and biscuits to fans and an opportunity to take photos against the backdrop of Highclere Castle!  Very clever!  The mobile tea truck will run from 11am to 7PM each day with stops on Monday at East 14th St. at University Place (Southwest corner), Tuesday: 6th Avenue between 40th & 41st St, Wednesday: 50th St. between 6th & 7th Ave. (Northside),  Thursday: The New York Times Center, 41st St. between 7th & 8th Ave, and Friday:  Broadway between 66th and 67th St. (Westside).   If you get a picture you would like to share and are in the New York area next week send it to us at On-Air On-Soaps for our official  facebook page!

Next, the ladies of ABC’s The View will welcome Downton Abbey cast members to the show on Tuesday December 10th including:  Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Rob James-Collier, Allen Leech, Lesley Nicol and Phyllis Logan!

Meanwhile over in the U.K, ITV has released this trailer for their upcoming Christmas episode which will air across the pond on December 25th, which of course, further frustrates all of us in America who are just clamoring for “Downton” to being here in January!

In the Christmas episode Shirley MacLaine returns as Cora’s mother (Elizabeth McGovern), in this two-hour holiday “Dowtown” uber-special!  In story, it is the social season and as part of Lady Rose’s ‘coming out’ she is to be presented at Buckingham Palace. If you don’t want to watch the trailer in case of spoilers, don’t go any further!  If you want to check it out, watch it after the jump!  Then, let us know are you ready for the U.S. return to Downton Abbey on January 5th?

I’m ready to watch Season 4, although I understand it may be a bit of a disappointment with the rape storyline.

I am ready. Unlike our soaps I do NOT want to hear any spoilers.

I’ve already read all about Season 4 in the British press, and still am excited to see it. For me spoilers don’t necessarily “spoil” anything….they only give away the most minimal details….how they are actually executed remains “to be seen!” Thought the “tea truck” was an adorable promo….wish it would be in more areas around the country!!!!

Currently, the cast and writer Julian Fellowes have been on hand at the Downton Abbey exhibition which debuted in Singapore. However, some notable members of the company seemed surprised by the news including Laura Carmichael (Edith): “Well, tell my agent, because we’re still waiting to know. We’re hoping that will happen soon.”

Variety reports that an NBCUniversal spokesman confirmed the studio hopes to put the movie into production in 2018.

The Downton Abbey exhibition however, is set to travel to the United States and Australia with dates to be announced. (more…)
