Insider Report: Is ABC about to cancel All My Children?

The news skyrocketing this morning around the soap world is an item from Deadline.com where the entertainment business website has revealed what Daytime Confidential had mentioned several weeks back that it looked like their were some changes ahead in the ABC Daytime line-up.

Now according to Deadline today, All My Children looks to be the ABC soap on the chopping block should the network proceed with downsizing its soap line-up in favor of a talk-show.

Deadline stated, “All My Children appears to be the most vulnerable for cancellation, and there is speculation that it may be replaced by a a talk show in the fall. All My Children, which is in its 41st year on the air, recently posted two weeks of back-to-back all-time lows in the key Women 18-49 demographic, in which it is dead last among the 6 daytime dramas on the air, drawing paltry 463,000 for the week of March 7, down 34% vs. last year. For the same week, All My Children was also last in total viewers, averaging 2.32 million. (ABC’s One Life to Live did only marginally better with 2.36 million.) One reason for ABC to keep its 3 daytime dramas on the air was the fact that they were getting a second window on sibling cable channel SOAPnet. But with SOAPnet changing its format to the preschool-centered Disney Junior next year, Disney-ABC is clearly scaling back on its commitment to soaps, and the daytime lineup on the broadcast network will probably be next.”

So, what do you think of this  possible move, should ABC decide to drop AMC?  With OLTL consistently coming in under budget and with slightly better ratings, and clearly the better and more of a cult favorite type of show,  and GH still the flagship show of the line-up, it would certainly appear the Pine Valley folks look to be the most troubled.  Add to that, the fact they were given a new lease on life by moving to L.A. to lower production costs.   If the worst case scenario were to happen, god forbid, and we would lose yet another soap,  would you be in favor of saying adios to this one?

ARE you insane????? What are you thinking??? People of all ages continue to watch these two shows… How can you truly cancel iconic DAY time shows… That is like telling me my mother has died and I will never see her again.. I grew up with these shows. Truly are you insane???? Even though I live in a remote area I pay for the internet to get these two shows when they can not tune in… Recheck you stats… I watch them even in the evening after they air because of being in the remote area… I am outraged.. You are letting your sponsers down just the same, not to mention the fans… You are making a huge stratigic finanical meltdown… AS these two shows are what are keeping viewers faithfull to ABC. Stayhome moms, wifes, husbands, will no longer will be tuning to ABC if you … Do you realize that the fact of your ratings is because of all the reality TV shows??? YOU have lost sight of faithful follwers to ABC. Let me tell you, in most people our lives evolve around GMA, AMC, and OTL. Reality shows are for the evening hours, daytime is OUR time… I am so angry!!! I can not believe that you would even remotly consider this to be a reality to get rid of these shows.. I will boy cot ABC if you do so and I will encourage others to do the same. Seriously, these women and men we have watched grow and evolve as our own families.. You are not out here, listening to as even my young adult children walk in as I am watching one of these and they get locked in again… Their comments are, “OMG, I used to watch this with my mom so what is happening with …….. and then they wait to sit and watch the next one.” Of course later they can not believe they actually got caught up in it for two hours. Why is that???? Because even though it is a daytime soap, they are familiar with the names and faces.. Like old relatives they catch up… which means they are the future return viewers of your network… Todays times are hard enough, please do not take away something that is so familar in our lives… Our hearts break when those we have grown with have passed on and real tears fall, real hearts break, and for many these people are OUR family… How dare you take families away… I am just so angry right now to find this is real… Not to mention those who have been faith through the years to remain on your show.. Shame on you… they never gave up on you.. they showed up for their jobs and filled all the homes across the US and even abroad total dedication not to mention dedicating their LIVES for you… NOW you kick all them to the curb… ARE YOU INSANE and so heartless to not only the viewers but to them as well… Yeah angry I am… Because you are changing my life and the lives of millions of others and cast without our consent. Who died and made you king… You are to listen to your viewers… What are the stats on reality shows??? Not long!!! then you have to scrape and find an other failed season. HUGE> HUGE>>> MISTAKE>>>

Mark Consuelos Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Co-Host of ‘Live’ Alongside Kelly Ripa

Today, April 17th marks a full-year since Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) took over the co-hosting duties of ‘Live” alongside his wife, and longtime co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, All My Children).

Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest who are six seasons decided to be back on the west coast full-time. For Consuelos, now having the opportunity to work off of Ripa as co-hosts has been something of adjustment for him, but viewers have been eating it up.

Live with Kelly and Mark has remained the No. 1 entertainment talk show on television over the past year, growing 3% in average total viewers to 2.23M per episode.  It is also the most-watched daytime talk show in the last year in key demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54. All of this, since the real-life marrieds teamed-up.

Speaking with Deadline, Kelly Ripa shared why the two are gelling on-screen, “I do think that there is something very possibly relatable about our relationship. We have disagreements like a normal couple, and we’re not afraid to let them unfold on the air and in front of America, and I think people find a lot of themselves in that.”

Mark weighed in how he has progressed as a host, and what he could improve at, sharing, “I’d like to get better at my interviewing skills. I’d like to get better at reading a teleprompter…I think I’m getting better at throwing to commercial. The other day in the middle of the show as we go to commercial, my sign off was ‘See you guys around.’ I mean, the show wasn’t over. The most obvious thing to say would be, ‘We’ll be back right after this.’ But I just said, ‘See you around.’ So we went to commercial and one of the producers (goes) ‘What was that?’ I don’t know… So for the next few sign offs, as a joke, I’d say ‘See you around.’ We got a kick out of it.”

Meanwhile, Kelly has given huge props to Mark, “I find Mark utterly compelling, really interesting, super funny, and he’s bold in a way like nobody else. He says what’s on his mind. If he’s thinking it, he says it.  I’ve done this a long time and oftentimes people will adjust their natural personalities to pander to what they think the audience wants to hear, and Mark will tell people what he thinks, and he doesn’t care if it’s not a popular opinion. It gives him an edginess that I think is really missing in the landscape today. Everybody’s so afraid to say anything, and Mark is unafraid to say exactly what he’s thinking.”

In a statement, Debra O’Connell, President News Group and Networks, Disney Entertainment shared, We could not be more thrilled with how Mark has seamlessly joined the show family as permanent co-host. His undeniable charisma and his and Kelly’s natural chemistry are evident as they deliver the laughs and smiles to our viewers each morning. We are incredibly proud of how Live has continued to evolve and that the audience is responding so enthusiastically.”

So, do you think Mark Consuelos is the best co-host his wife Kelly Ripa has ever had on ‘Live’? How would you say he is doing as co-host after one full year on the job? Comment below.
