Days Of Our Lives

Is 90210's Freddy Smith heading to DAYS to play love-interest in gay storyline?

Rumors are running rampant, that the current love-interest of Teddy Donovan’s on 90210, Freddy Smith (who plays Marco on the nighttime soap),  is headed over to Days of our Lives to be in the gay storyline as a love-interest for Chandler Massey’s, Will!  It is being highly speculated that Smith’s new DAYS character could actually be the son of Adrienne and Justin Kiriakis played by Judi Evans and  Wally Kurth.

Many were hoping for Casey Deidrick (Chad) to be given the nod in the gay love story in Salem, as fans have been wildly hoping for a Chill pairing, but with this bit of news, it looks like that may not be the way the powers-that-be are going.  Fans of DAYS and the LGBT audience are now on the edge of their seats hoping for a good story, and who will ultimately be carrying the rainbow flag for the first time in DAYS history! Stay tuned.

While glad for strong gay characters, I am still surprised when a daytime drama announces its first such storyline. Maybe because I am an out man, I had hoped we’d be farther along by May 2011. Daytime drama may have done itself a disservice by not incorporating diversity of all kinds into its communities earlier in the game. But let’s cheer the DAYS team for this development, and those on GL, ATWT (Who remembers Iva’s friend Hank from like 1989!?), AMC, and OLTL who so publicly have made strides here with good heartfelt and honest stories that grow and touch… Read more »

I think this is a good move as long as Dena doesn’t mess it up.

According to a report from PEOPLE.com, Flagg will appear in the May 12th, 2023 episode streaming on Peacock.

The details of his character’s arc is being kept under wraps. But when looking at the first look exclusive, Flagg appears in scenes with DAYS Rob Scott Wilson (Alex) and Abigail Klein (Stephanie).

When questioned how he came to be cast on DAYS, Flagg shared that the Days of our Lives casting team reached out to him because they thought he would “play this particular character very well.”

Turns out that Josh is a longtime fan of Days of our Lives and recalls watching the soap with his mother growing up.

NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell Says Peacock Hit 18M Paid Subscribers Up From 15M In September

On Monday, during a webcast session at the UBS TMT investors conference, NBC Universal CEO, Jeff Shell shared that the NBCUniversal streaming service, Peacock has hit 18 million paid subscribers.

Interestingly, that is an uptick of 3 million paid subscribers since the end of September of this year, where the service had 15 million.

As soap fans know, Days of our Lives debuted exclusively in its new home on Peacock on September 12th, and viewers who watched on linear TV and NBC had to switch modes and pay-in for a subscription to watch the show.  However, there has been no quantifying data released on just how well DAYS is performing on the platform.

In terms of its sustainability and its ad-supported streaming platform, Shell added: “We were late coming into streaming, but we clearly chose the right business model.”  Shell noted that this strategy has helped offset declines in linear TV revenues, and a worsening advertising market.

The CEO went to explain: “We believe in the premium video ad-supported, dual revenue stream essential broadcast and cable on streaming, driven by key programming.” Shell also shared that declines in cable subscribers is putting pressure on affiliate fees and advertising rates, so it’s becoming more important than ever for Peacock revenues to offset falling cable TV revenues and that the TV ad business is “definitely getting worse.”

So, what do you think of the uptick of subscribers to Peacock since September? Is Days of our Lives a key player in this? Have you gotten use to watching your favorite soap on the streaming platform? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
