It's A Wrap For Steve Burton As He Shares: "Great Last Day At Y&R. Great People. Always Grateful For My Time There."

Courtesy/CBS
While last Friday Steve Burton and his Y&R castmates had his going away gathering, it was yesterday on Tuesday, December 13th that Burton officially shot his last scenes as Dylan McAvoy on CBS Daytime’s The Young and the Restless.
The fan favorite sent out a special shout out to the cast and crew following his final day at the set tweeting: “Great last day @YandR_CBS @YRInsider great people. Great place. Always gr8ful for my time there. Much luv to cast and crew. 🙂 #chilltime”
Burton, who ends his four-year run in Genoa City, is said to heading to Nashville to be with his family, excited to be looking for new acting projects, and as we have previously posted has opened an acting course for those coming to Tinseltown via his new project, Hollywood Schooled.
Look for Burton to air on Y&R well into January.
So, how do you think the writing team will write-off the character of Dylan McAvoy? Will the door be left open for a return by Burton?
Share your thoughts on that, and his heartfelt message to his colleagues on his exit in the comment section below.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE 16,000th Episode?
The 16,000th episode will feature Jason Morgan returning to the town of Port Charles, Anna and Valentin (James Patrick Stewart) reuniting, and a new surgeon, Dr. Tristan Roberts (Dean Geyer) joining the staff of ‘General Hospital.’

Stay tuned for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy nominations tomorrow on Tuesday, July 14 to find out if GH will be going for gold in the category, once again.

They should recast him with Billy Miller-
They could, Jimmy. It makes no difference that it would be the same soap, different character.
Sharon Case and Billy Miller do have a romantic history as Billy A and Sharon Newman/ McAvoy….what a coincidence? Same name as their character’s name. Freaky!
As per my grandmother, Chris Kositchek and Roman Brady both played by Josh Taylor ( DOOL). So, it could eork.
But, be that as it may, I doubt Miller will exit GH, at this time……I wish, though….
I do agree that Dylan should be recast. TPTB CANNOT leave the Sharon/Dylan story ‘cold turkey’.
Maybe, he and Sharon can go on a trip to get away from all the devastation in which they find themself….come back brand new; in more ways than one.
Smile, Jimmy…
Smiles are getting harder for me these days but i managed one after reading this…i seen many soap actors come back to play different roles on the same soap they were on before but Josh-first as Chris and then as Roman seemed weird to me for many years…but now im ok with him…i just think he was so underused as Roman its hard for some fans to accept him in the role!!!
SHARON ALONG WITH NICK JACK BILLY VIKI ASHLEY NIKKI AND VICTOR.ARE SALY SUSSMAN’S TOP 8 CHARACTOR’S ON HER CANVAS.SHARON WON’T BE GOING ANYWHERE.JUST FINALLY GETTING A DECENT S/L.
Haha!! Good one!
I agree!
Billy Miller should come back as Billy Abbott, Michelle Stafford as Phyllis and Michael Muhney as Adam.
Now, that is the best scenario yet!
Bring back Justin Hartley as Adam.
No–Gina has made Phyllis her own and I finally like and root for Phyllis now.
I cannot stand Stafford’s Phyllis anymore than I can stand Stafford’s Nina.
And Jason Thompson has really stepped into those big shoes left behind by Miller and like Gina, he also made this role his own.
I all for Michael Muhney coming back as Adam, however, realistically speaking, I do not see that happening.
Amen!!!!!!
Nooooooooooo
Billy has been the perfect recast!!
I luv Billy as Jason GH ..
I want Michael Muhney back as Adam !!!
Michelle Stafford doesn’t want back at Y&R
Sharon needs to be killed-off, dead ..
Luvin Hillary- she is true Queen Bitch ..
Cain & Lilly are pukin’ sickening, just mentioning..
As for a recast of Dylan, naw.. he’s not all that important.
Well, Dylan gives Paul someone to scold and yell at..
If I’m responsible for that one smile, Jimmy?……then, we’re on the right track. LOL.
I liked him better on GH.
Me too. Loved Jake Doe, but was disappointed in trying to remake him into Jason. Just did not work for me. I also don’t care for Michelle as Nina. Too kooky and unbelievable.
I want him back on GH as the real badass Jason Morgan!!!!
YES!
Since they connected Dylan to Nikki and Paul I hope they don’t kill the character off– I am open for a recast at some point– also since Paul already lost a son, I would hate to see him lose another one— but Dylan is such a stand up guy I don’t see him leaving Sharon- so my guest is he will be yet another character presumed dead– body missing– open for a return, but dead for the time being– I imagine it will be when he is doing something super heroic — saving someone from a burning house, or a drowning– but if they kill him outright– Doug Davidson will have another shot at a Emmy– mourning another son.
Hi Mary I read somewhere that Nick has a one nighter with Sharon. No details but my best guess would be Dylan finds out and leaves Sharon. He already misses Sully/Christian but Sharon has said you still have a family. I don’t think he could handle losing to Nick again.
Wow, Nikki. Really? I am anticipating the reason Dylan leaves. Your estimation makes the best sense, if Sharon and Nick hit the sheets, LOL.
My mind was actually steering in the wrong direction. I sort of assumed Nick and Chelsea ( ugh) would ‘get together’…. there is a certain amount of sexual tension there.
I would rather see Nick with Sharon than with Chelsea, albeit I still feel Dylan should be recast.
I agree with some posters who want Avery back…..the Avery/Dylan premise of a baby, by Addison, sounds good to me.
Hmm, I was wondering how Dylan would exit?
If you try “fishwrapper soap news” you’ll see what they say about Dylan.
I never liked Jack, Nikki. I was too young ( or not born, lol) when Terry Lester played the role.
Now, I detest Jack even more. Here I was calling Billy a spoiled Abbott brat, but Jack tops him.
This is how I remember Jack….his true colors are coming out.
OK, so don’t think I’m crazy or anything ( well, maybe I am, a little. Aren’t we all? LOL), but, did you notice Jack’s hair, yesterday?
If you dvr the show, rewatch it. The front of his hair was styled in the shape of horns…..making his forehead and eyes, in the right light, look reptilian.
I don’t know why the writers are suddenly ‘shedding’ Jack’s good skin for bad. I think he is out for blood and he will probably do something so much worse than evict the ‘residents’ of BRASH & SASSY…….sleep with Victoria, maybe? Retaliation?
Good premise, Mary. What would trouble me, though, is the fact that if Dylan is presumed dead; awaiting his return will take a toll on Sharon.
As we witnessed, time and again, on these soaps, is that no character is ever left ‘manless’ for too long ( so far, Ava of GH is holding her own without a man. LOL). So, Sharon would soon be paired with some guy….and the cycle starts over again.
Dylan will return to a love triangle.
As will Adam. ……know what I mean, Mary?
Therefore, for this expressed reason, I hope Dylan, if he is to return, does not disappear for too long.
I think that, finally, Sharon has found the right guy to give her life some bliss….enough tormenting this character. PTB, please give Sharon a break.
And, NIKKI has some nerve to treat Sharon as she does in front of Faith. Poor kid.
Lest I forget….Nick’s a whimpy, mommy’s boy. Not that I condone Sharon what she did, albeit her mental state does come into play……But, have some respect for the mother of your children, dufus.
Oh my gosh you are so right about Nick. I am so sick of him and while we’re at it what the heck happened to Jack.? Ok he’s hurt and I don’t condone having an affair with anyone let alone his younger brother but did he forget sleeping with Jill when she was married to his father? Jack in his younger day (played by Terry Lester) was a real playboy. He was hopping in and out of beds with all the Jabot models not to mention what he did to Patty Williams. Good grief now he acts like a saint.
avery should have made a brief return for dylans departure
the two belonged together and dylan leaving her for sharon was abrupt. both were smart and respectable characters and it would be nice to see if good wins out in the end
His PTSD, that he never doctored for lol might come back and he’ll freak out, out…
Avery will show up with a year old baby as well as an iron clad DNA test proving that the baby is his.
Dylan, Avery and their baby boy will steal one of Victor’s prized white stallions, ride off into the sunset, and live happily ever after.
I like!!
Yea right, LM AO!!!
Wishing Mr. Burton all the best!
Are we still talking about Michael Muhney? Really?
A dark haired woman enters the picture with her back to us….she quietly tells Dylan that she needs his help with a situation in New York, Port Charles to be exact, she turns around and it’s Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough)…she says to him that he reminds her of someone from her past and to please come help her save her friend, Jason….in a dream sequence Dylan/Jason wakes up and the General Hospital credits roll…..fade to black, and Dylan says, “wow, what a dream!!!!!”….hahahahahaha
The character and the actor were forced down viewers’ throats from day one and NONE of his stories — his 20 minute battle with PTSD; his romance with the Julia Child of law, Avery Bailey Clark (who was reunited with him after he left a special rock for her on the bar at The Underground — hahahahahahaha); that “riveting” on-line cooking show stalker mystery; the reveal that he was Nikki’s secret sainted cult baby; being the doofus who got fooled into playing daddy to somebody’s else’s kid twice — worked. The soaps need to learn that just because an actor was popular in one role is no guarantee that popularity will transfer to their next role (it rarely does).
I’d like to see Dylan leave town to find his real family after discovering that Sharon tampered with his DNA results because she’d run out of Newman men to marry and needed a new way to annoy Nikki.
THINK DYLAN MAY BE KILLED BECAUSE OF HIS JOB ,OR HE MAY GO UNDER COVER,
I think he did some of his best work recently, with the baby switch storyline. I liked Dylan paired with Sharon. Good luck.
in a twist, I’d like to see him on GH but as AJ Quartermaine! Time to build the family back up again.
I welcomed Dylan to Genoa City but never cared for all that Ian Ward nonsense. And I am not sure we really needed to tie him to the Newmans. That said, I liked that we had a good guy on the canvas, someone not always bullying or sleeping around. If I was Dylan, I would not stick around either after all that baby mismatch nonsense. Better the character moves on. Sure, he could return one day, but I think this exciting reboot of Y&R means characters not integral to Genoa City life may be minimized or let go. I would not worry about Mr. Burton. If the NASHVILLE move to CMT is a success, we may see him in prime time!
i have loved this show forever. i seeing going back to the old way with all these memory scenes, and the characters having conversations about the early years. i would love to see jack finally find a woman who loves him and i want to see more of lauren and michael. and some really cool arguments between jack and victor. those were so precious back then. i wish dylan the best and hope they end his story with a tear jerker. i love it when my hubby sneaks tears from his cheeks.
Like Steve on Th as Jason Morgan..i love him with Kelly Monaco…
