It's About Time! Y&R Finally Getting New Opening Title Sequence!

After years … and years … and years of watching the same opening title sequence and its slight variations with different on contract cast members, the number one daytime drama, The Young and the Restless is finally putting the finishing touches on their new opening title sequence.  But the question is, who will be featured in it?  Will there be  different configurations show throughout the week?

Y&R’s Daniel Goddard(Cane) took to Twitter the other day to let his fans and followers know that he was going in to shoot his shots for the title sequence when he tweeted,   Y&R is redoing its opening title sequence! And tomorrow I film my part!”

So soapers, although we have some of the skinny on who we know has been filmed for it, let us know who you absolutely think must be included, or you will be very upset!  And, if you were to put on your creative soap hats, how would you style the new 2012 version of  the Y&R opening title sequence ?

I do know for sure that Michael Muhney will be in it as he also tweeted about it. He is saying that it will debut in about 6-8 weeks (his words, not mine).

Yeah. He wanted it to be a surprise for us fans, though. 🙁

That is great to hear, but they also might strongly consider updating some of the sets…Victors ranch living room and Jacks living room are just downright gaudy..fake flowers and all….just SAYIN….

Could not agree with you more on that one Chris!

I agree about Victor and Jack’s homes. They look like they’re stuck in a time warp, especially Victor’s living room.

OMG! I think the same thing to myself everytime I see those two rooms, but especially Victor’s house. I think it’s worse than Jacks. It looks like cheap, dated trailer trash, not like an extremely rich man lives there.

I’d rather see Y&R spend money to update those rooms than to change the opening sequence.

They can make it more elegant like Katherine’s

If I had my way, we’d have a new take on Nadia’s Theme (like the famous Red opening), but I know this won’t happen. All contract players would be in, either on a rotating basis, or mega-fast like B&B and GH. Actor & character names would appear. It would be cut so it can be updated in real time with cast changes. I preferred the stylishness of the Red opening, but I could tolerate a return to the 90s version—posed moving images against a white background. The one problem with limiting to contract players is that my Gloria and Lauren wouldn’t be featured…

Michael Muhney also tweeted that there will also be original music featured in the new Y&R opening credits as well! Does that mean that they are getting rid of “Nadia’s Theme”?, because I LOVE that theme music, and it would be such a total travesty if they got rid of it, because “Nadia’s Theme” is such a integral part of Y&R’s legacy since it’s the theme music that’s the most recognizable part of the show!

Oh, I agree, Chris! When I watch it via Tivo, I actually rewind it just so I can hear Nadia’s theme. That would be a mistake to get rid of that or mess it up like they did years ago.

YES!!!!!!
It is about time!

I wonder if Days will ever update their opening?

I hope not. I like it the way it is.

Day’s opening will always stay out of respect for the late great MacDonald Carey! It would not ever be the same without his great voice you know back in the time when SOAPS WERE GREAT!!!!

Yes, if only Days could really get back to the storytelling of yesteryear.

Jeanne Cooper and Jess Walton need to be in it.

I would love it if they did the portrait drawings like the original sequences had.

Oh, and Melody Thomas Scott. She must be in it as well.

Let’s hope they include Jeanne Cooper and Jess Walton , because Y&R seems to have forgotten all about Jill and Katherine Chancellor and all the viewers that have followed them for almost four decades now.

We see either Jill or Katherine, even though they live together and share a family, they rarely shown together on-screen and they haven’t had a story in years. Has it been 3 years?

If Jess Walton is not included then my suspicions will be confirmed! Jess Walton still turns in power performances every time she is given something to do I miss her and Jeanne Cooper doing scenes I could care less seeing Debi Morgan or Genie Francis take up her air time.

I don’t think any characters should be prominently shown. I think it should just look like one big, long flashback without focusing on anyone.

Hopefully it is THE original music, and not NEW original music. Cotton’s Theme will and should be forever associated with Y&R. I don’t understand why not keep the same opening but update the characters, like the producers planned to when they originally debuted the opening. It was under LML and MAB that the opening became stale and repetitive. I am looking forward to the new opening, but I’ve learned not to expect much from MAB.

I know he hasn’t been on the show for years and years, but I would love it if Stephen Nichols was in it. I’ve been a fan for a very long time. 🙂

I’m very much looking forward to it! They’ve always had such amazing opening sequences; I can only imagine that the newest one will be bigger, faster, stronger – but still upholding that which is right in the universe: i.e. dramatic close ups of our favorites, sweeping and iconic music and a production value that would rival night time serials. Nothing but the best for the jewel in the daytime crown at CBS!

Im glad for the update but the original theme must stay. Wouldn’t be Y&R without the theme song.

They need to keep the original Nadia’s theme – even if they tweak the tempo a bit.
As for the opening sequence…the grande dame herself Jeanne Cooper, followed by Eric,Melody,Peter,Eileen, etc.
All long time players at the top….
I must say I like BB opening sequence.

Could we also get new writers new actors! Gosh this show is awful and it is so sad I sit down and watched last week and was cringing most of them are phoning in their lines. And send Debi Morgan, Genie Francis etc packing they just do not fit . Eleven years later a new opening wow!

If the new credits mirror the new show we won’t be seeing much of the longtime Y&R cast in it. I feel sorry in advance for all the Y&R actors and loyal fans of the show who are being displaced by the new ones. The credits have been the only place we’ve been able to get a glimpse of them for the last couple years.

I honestly could care less about the opening!! I’m more concerned about the show itself, which needs an update, so to speak!! New head writers that will restore Y&R to its former glory instead of the garbage the head writers call a soap!! You know a show is in trouble if the only good thing about it is the opening!

Hopefully it will include Stephen Nichols

All I can say is THANK YOU!! The cast is huge and I am sure they won’t be able to feature everyone. Regarding DOOL, I dom’t think we will see an opening change for them. There main focus right now is probably keeping the show on the air.

REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.

The Michael Fairman Channel spoke with Nicholas Chavez for a virtual interview when he first joined the show in 2021, and spoke to him right after when he won the Daytime Emmy in 2022 – you can see those below.

Jack Wagner Open to Making an Appearance in ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot and Shares, “You Never Really Die on a Soap”

With the Melrose Place revival the talk of the town, now Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco, GH, ex-Nick, B&B and ex-Peter Burns, MP) has weighed-in on it and if he would show up in the new series if it should find a home.

Currently, CBS Studios is developing a reboot starring Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton. But what is Dr. Peter Burns were to show up alive?

As those who saw the end of the original MP know, Peter and Amanda (Locklear) faked their deaths and then tied the knot with Peter on a beach, supposedly in a “happily ever after” scenario.

Photo: Fox

Speaking with PEOPLE, Wagner expressed, what we all know who watch the soaps, that no one is never, ever really gone for good. Jack expressed, “You never really die on a soap, right? How they unfold those two characters (Peter and Amanda), it’d be fantastic how they sort of tell that story.”

Wagner added, “That was a great finale to be included in, especially with Heather. If I’m asked to come back, I’d absolutely entertain that.”

Photo: Fox

The original Melrose Place aired for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999. The story featured the residents of an apartment complex, whose lives were intertwined. Eventually Wagner and Heather Locklear dated fro 2007-2011.

As previously reported, the new Melrose Place share that some of original neighbors and friends reunite after a death. The loglines add, “The pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

So, would you like to see Jack Wagner return as Dr. Peter Burns on Melrose Place, or Frisco Jones on GH, or both? Comment below.
