James Scott On His Decision To Leave DAYS: "I Just Felt, And Have For Some Time,That I Needed A Break!"

After last Friday’s shocker that Days of our Lives James Scott (EJ) was wrapping up his eight years with taping his final episode on May 2nd, the extraordinarily popular received an outpouring of support from his fans, as well as those who were sad and disappointed.
As soap viewers know though, James had been giving careful consideration to departing the series for quite some time and rumors began surfacing that he might depart the long-running NBC soap opera over a year ago at some point in time.
In James latest interview with Soap Opera Uncensored where he is named “Sexiest Man Alive for 2014” an honor he also won back in 2011, he discusses his exit. Many would have James named ‘sexiest’ on their list every year!
James offered up on his decision to depart DAYS: “As you know by now I announced my leaving the show. It was a hard decision, and one I made almost a year ago. I have nothing but fond memories of my time with DAYS, and would like to reinforce that my decision was personal and had nothing to do with the direction of the show or my storyline. I just felt, and have for some time, that I needed a break. Ken Corday graciously said that the door would always be open for me to return, and if that were to happen in the future, I would be very happy to return to a place that will always be very close to my heart. “

He comes back, he comes back but if he doesnt the show will survive without him…after watching Days since the begining(when i was home from school or not hangin with friends) ive seen many comings and goings, especially in 1980 when many cast members were let go…and Days is still here!!!

49 years for Days…you might have mistaken it for Y&R which is 41…Days has survived many cast changes, especially since 1980 when many cast members were let go and quit during the shows revamping…
It was 41 when James started playing EJ 8 years ago though. That’s what I said.
After 8 years been on DOOL i can understand James Scott needing a break.Now in a few months he might be willing to come back after he takes some time off to do other stuff in his life.

Absolutely. welcome mat will always be open to both James and Ali. Don”t know If I’ll be a daily devotee anymore though. Those two were my definite characters in the show.
Glad Eileen Davidson is back though! and wonder how Stefano is going to react to his son’s ” demise”. This ought of be good. So bored with the Ben/Jordan/Abilgai;/ Rafe story though. they better bring in some new characters and story lines or i’ll quit wartchig aferr 35 yesrs.

James Scott can portray emotions better than any actor that I have ever watched. I have watched days intermittently since it began but have watched it continuously since James Scott was introduced on the show. I will miss his character but I am sure I will be watching him in other adventures. He is a great talent.

James Scott as sexiest man alive is a no brainer! I am sad to see him leave Days but totally will follow him wherever he ends up. I’m sure he will have a great career because he is so talented. I’m glad Corday has left the door open for him to come back…same as Alison. They are a dynamic duo and I’d love to see them both come back even if it’s for short story arcs. Either way I wish James all the best.

Days is an ensemble show, there aren’t any real ‘leading characters’. Granted, Daniel was on the show just as much as EJ was in recent times. Days will likely start focusing even more on Dannifer…blech.
Since Allison Sweeney is also leaving the show, I already saw it coming… It wouldn’t be right for either of them to be coupled with someone else from the show… it just wouldn’t be the same… So sad to see him go… SEXIEST MAN ALIVE IS VERY DESERVED of this actor because that is exactly what he is… Show will not be the same without him = (

So sad to see him go. But we only get one life and he has to do what is best for him. I will miss seeing him on my screen nearly every day. He is absolutely the sexiest man alive! No contest! But he is also so amazingly talented. James and Ali have been fantastic to watch together over the past eight years. I will miss their talent, dedication, and hard work. They always brought a smile to my face when I got to watch them. Soaps are the best stress relief when I get home from a tough day at work.

I think James gave Days eight wonderful years. EJ DiMera is my favorite character. But I understand his need to rest and perhaps try other things. It will be wonderful if James does land in primetme or in the movies. I know he has a movie in pre-production so hopefully that will be on our screens in the coming year.

I love James Scott, and I know he’d been thinking for a while of leaving, and I respect his professionalism, both on and off screen.
However, with his comment about the EJ-cheating story line feeling like “a bit of a slap in the face” to him and Ali as actors, I have have a hard time fully believing him when he says that his decision to leave had nothing to do with the direction of the story. He made his decision almost a year ago. Gee, that would have been just about the time he’d have received the scripts for January’s scenes, lol.
Who knows if I’m right, but you’d be hard pressed to convince me otherwise.
Anyway, he is definitely the sexiest man alive, and more importantly, one of the most talented actors around, and a sweet, intelligent individual. Days (and viewers) were very lucky to have him.
You will be missed, Mr. Scott! Look forward to seeing you in new projects! Good luck!
he will return in 2015….as a new character…on GENERAL HOSPITAL….as the new love interest of Dr. Robin Scorpio-Drake…and be Patrick’s biggest rival.
Personally, I can’t imagine Days without EJ and Sami of course. They are without a doubt the BEST duo on Days. No other duo comes remotely close to the extraordinary chemistry these 2 share on screen.
Hopefully, both will return at some point, but if Alison is not interested, I would certainly welcome James back. He is the BEST leading man on Days, who captured a HUGE fan base.

His talent, his abilities at this work, his caring of others including his dogs etc., environment, command of the English Language, his manners at interviews etc., and most of all how he remains such a private person. I love the latter about him and hope with more success that he can maintain that quality. To have a PRIVATE LIFE in acting business is very difficult but since I have watch and read his interviews for 8 years now I believe he can succeed in both areas.
I love his slight accent since it always reminds me of my Mom, scary some times. She lived in Edinbourgh, Scotland dring her young years.
Wish James future is to his liking but please somehow let fans know your next project if possible.

I had made up my mind when AS announced in January on the Ellen show that she was leaving that Sami’s last day would be my last day. EJ & Sami were the reason I started watching again after an almost 20 year hiatus from days. Almost 8 years ago my television was on and I looked up & saw the two of them I was hooked! Without Sami there would never be an Ejami & I couldn’t have watched Days pair EJ with someone other than Sami. I am selfish because I was hoping James would leave when AS left…when I heard the news I was relieved. I adore James Scott and am waiting to see him in either primetime or as the next 007. Sexiest Man Alive doesn’t even come close to describing this man! Well deserved though! Will miss both James & Ali immensely!

i am devastated, sincerely, James is what has kept me hanging onto DAYS for yrs now. I wanted to walk away from DOOLS when they let BO go, I feel the show took a nose dive about that time, many actors leaving, esp the ones i have watched for yrs. NOW with EJ aka James Scott gone, I can no longer stay with this show..He & Allison (Sami) were the reason I tuned in every day. They were the most convincing, passionate couple on this show, you would think they were a real couple in love. Sami is a gr8 actor, BUT EJ is meant for the BIG Screen/Broadway (NYC), I plan to follow his career, where ever it takes him. I wish him the Best of Luck, Health & Happiness. <3

The show has gone to a path of predictable, mind numbing storylines & both really bad characters and casting decisions through the past few years. No wonder audience is ditching the show in crowds.
Two of the most talented & charismatic actors of leaving (James & Ali) there’s nothing left to watch.

I don’t know about James Scott, but I think in time they might recast the role– the Dimera – Brady feud has been at the heart of DAYS a very long time, so I can’t imagine them ditching that family altogether. So as long as one Dimera is on canvas, the possibility of EJ coming back is always there– but whether James Scott will play him — who knows. I hope he goes onto bigger and better things– but he might find himself going from a big fish in a small pond to a small fish in a large ocean.
no to recast. James owns EJ and no one will compare to him.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t matter– if they can recast Ridge on B&B after RM played him for over twenty-five years or Phyllis on Y&R after MS played her for 15– they certainly would recast EJ if story line dictated it and JS wasn’t available. I don’t think they would just yet, but in a year or two, you never know.
I also think in time the show will recast EJ because of who the character is and he has kids on the show.Yeah Johnny and Sydney will probably be leaving too with their parents but they could always return.However the show may know recasting now won’t work and that the viewers may need time to adjust to James Scott been gone.Also before the show recasts EJ they might approach James Scott about returning and that way they can say they asked him about coming back at least.
I was so sad when I read that James would not be renewing his contract but not surprised because he and Alison Sweeney are such a dynamite couple; I don’t know how it would be for him staying on Days without his co-star . I also did read, some time ago, that James said he did not plan on acting for his whole life; there were many other things that he was interested in. I also read that he said he would love to relocate to New Zealand one day. Who knows? Maybe he will go on to be a famous photographer and not act. Whatever, or wherever his life takes him, I will always be a James Scott and EJami fan! He will be missed! The Sexiest Man Alive!! There are many EJami and James Scott fans out here in tvland who would agree to that!! I hope that EJami gets their HEA!!!! I have episodes on my dvr that I will never delete. They are there for me to watch when I get nostalgic for James and Ali and the wonderful love story that was EJami!!!

I wish James all the best EJ was the only cool character on the show along with Sami their scenes were never dull they such great chemistry whether it didn’t matter whether they were in love or they hate each other Ejami burned up my screen. I also have a hard time in believing this storyline wasn’t part of the reason why he waslked away from the show. He didn’t like it at first and although he did say he love in the end I bet when they had EJ cheat on Sami he lost faith in the writers when it came to writing future storylines for Ejami.

Allison Sweeney has the right to leave anytime she wants.However she did say she would be willing to return even it is just for Holidays or special events.So maybe she’ll be back for the 50th anniversary next year.However right now she just might need a break to spend time with her family with Summer coming up and to do other stuff in her life.

I’m glad the door remains open for James to return to Days. But since he could also become a film star, who knows what direction his career will take? What would really be cool is if James does become a major film star AND he returns periodically to Salem to reprise his role as EJ. That would be a hoot!
I think it would probably be healthy for all the major actors on Days to have a little time off at the end of each contract to rest or pursue other projects that they cannot do during regular taping on Days. We fans don’t really know what it takes for the actors to deliver the great performances that we enjoy watching. They need to “recharge their batteries” every now and then.
I hope the Daytime soaps adopt this as a policy – if they have not done so already.
yes, James Scott is the most talented actor or actress i heve ever seen on any soap opera, And he would be an excellent James Bond. Find it hard that he could come back from the dead though, as Sami has seen him in the morg. but the two had a dynamite chemistry. Hope some day he will be “raised from the dead” and Ali will come back just for all of her shenanigans! ( and I acted on the stage in my younger years), and I can say that James Scott can say a paragraph just with his eyes. What an actor. he will be sorely missed.
I have not always cared for the storylines that James was given, but no matter what was thrown at him he ALWAYS gave 110%. In my opinion, his talent raised the bar for all the other cast members. I think anyone that was given the opportunity to work with him became a better actor themselves and that includes Alison Sweeney. I’ve loved Ali/Sami since she came on the show over 20 years ago but I have to say that working with James made her a much stronger actress and gave her the opportunity to really explore different sides of Sami Brady. I really hope with them both leaving that Ejami will get their happily ever after. It’s what James & Ali want and it’s what Ejami fans have waited for since he “accidently” dropped his towel at their first meeting.
With James, Ali & Blake gone I’m not sure I’ll continue watching once they’re off my screen, but in the meantime I’m going to enjoy EVERY scene they’re in.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced the full list of nominees for the upcoming 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, and it was CBS daytime’s The Young and the Restless and broadcast television newest soap opera, Beyond the Gates that racked up the most nominations with 18 and 16, respectively.
The full reveal on Tuesday follows the announcement of several major categories including Lead Actor and Actress on Monday via Extra and Entertainment Tonight and The View today revealing Daytime Drama Series and more.
The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmys ceremony is set to take place on Friday, October 30 at the historic Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, California.

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Honoree, Gold & Silver Circle Inductees, and ceremony host will be announced at a later date.

Monday on Entertainment Tonight, the second set of nominations for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced which included the highly-coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actress and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.
ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.
Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.

THE FIVE LEADING LADIES OF THE SOAPS ARE …
The 2026 Lead Actress nominees are: Stacy Haiduk (Kristen DiMera), Days of Our Lives, Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree), Beyond the Gates, Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers), The Young and the Restless, Heather Tom (Katie Logan), The Bold and the Beautiful, and Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree), Beyond the Gates.
This marks the first Daytime Emmy nominations for Karla Mosley and Tamara Tunie. In addition, this marks the first-time in her career that Stacy Haiduk had received a Lead Actress nod after two Supporting Actress nominations.
Meanwhile, Michelle Stafford had previously won 3 Emmys – 2 for Lead Actress and 1 for Supporting, but this recognition makes it her 11th overall nomination.
Heather Tom currently is tied for the most all-time Daytime Emmy wins with One Life to Live alum and General Hospital guest star, Erika Slezak. The B&B star has 19 nominations throughout her career.

DAYTIME TALK SERIES
In the Outstanding Daytime Talk Series category, the nominees are: 3rd Hour of Today, The Drew Barrymore Show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Live with Kelly and Mark, Today with Jenna and Friends and The View.
“We’re proud to honor the extraordinary talent and creative teams whose work continues to define and elevate daytime television,” NATAS president and CEO Adam Sharp said in a statement on the nominations. “As the Daytime landscape evolves and new forms of storytelling emerge, we remain committed to recognizing the innovation happening across the industry.”
The rest of the nominations will be revealed tomorrow on Tuesday July 14 starting on The View and then the full list of nominees in both the main and creative arts will be released by NATAS. The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are slated for October 30th in Hollywood, California.

It’s Daytime Emmy nomination week, and as previously reported things kick-off on Monday, July 13 when Entertainment Tonight (7pm ET) will announce the nominees for Lead Actress category and Daytime Talk Series for the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards. In addition on Monday, Extra (7pm ET) will reveal the nominees for Lead Actor and Daytime Talk Host.
On Tuesday, The View (11am ET) starts things off with their announcement of Daytime Drama, Entertainment News program and Outstanding Daytime Personality-Daily. That is followed by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) full reveal of all the categories beginning at 12noon ET/9am PT on their website and their official social handles on X and Instagram.
Then, Tuesday night at 8pm ET/5pm PT join Michael Fairman as he hosts his 12th annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Special 2026 live on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel where he will chat with some of the just announced nominees as we celebrate the hard work of the men and women in front of the camera who will be going for gold.
WHEN ARE THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
This year, the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be handed out on October 30 in ceremonies in Hollywood, California (Venue yet to be revealed). At that time, as like last year, both the major categories and creative arts will be presented. There is no word yet on a broadcast partner for the annual celebration of daytime programming, or if it will soley be streamed on NATAS’ watch.theemmys.tv and various apps and platforms.
