Jason Gerhardt Steps In for Greg Vaughan on Days of our Lives

Photo: IMDb

A familiar face to soap fans will be filling-in for for a fan favorite on Peacock’s Days of our Lives on upcoming episodes. Look for General Hospital and GH: Night Shift alum, Jason Gerhardt (ex-Cooper Barrett) to take on the role of Eric Brady played by Greg Vaughan.

According to reps at Days of our Lives, Gerhardt will play Eric for five episodes which will stream on Peacock over the next three weeks in August.

Vaughan took to Twitter to clarify what precipitated his absence sharing, “I tested Positive for Covid & TPTD had to keep moving forward & thanks to our incredible #marniesaitta casting; my old friend / Castmate Jason Gerhart stepped in that week for 4/5 shows.”   Since DAYS tapes so far ahead of its airing/streaming, viewers will now see the ‘temp’ Eric.

As for Gerhardt, his last appearances on a soap opera and GH were from 2007-2008, Gerhardt went on to have a successful primetime career appearing in the series: Mistresses, NCIS, Chicago Med, Bones, CSI, to include but a few.

On DAYS, Eric is in a red hot story with Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) and Nicole (Arianne Zucker); where Sloan has switched the paternity results making Nicole’s unborn baby, EJ’s (Dan Feuerriegel), when in actuality it is Eric’s.

So, what do you think about Jason Gerhardt as a temporary recast of Eric Brady? Comment below.

Well, it looks like they got his hair right, at least.

I’m sure he’ll be fine as a temp hire. From what I remember, he was alright on GH, once you got past the ridiculous idea that he went from being one of Jerry Jack’s terrorist thugs to a PCPD cop overnight.

he was good on GH they should not have killed him off

Not only that… they never got around to answering the question of whether or not he was related to Brenda somehow. “Barrett” wasn’t a very common last name in Port Charles.

Well, that’s awkward.

OMG, isn’t Arianne almost 50 yrs. old? They are really pushing the envelope here and making her look foolish.

It’s a shame that he was the one that proposed to Sloan instead of the actual Eric that was weird

My first thought when I saw that scene was …. yeah, we know that Eric & Sloan are never making it to the altar.

Because if there was even a chance of these two being a long term couple, they would definitely want the proposal on file for future “flashbacks”. And you can’t do that with a temp hire

Oh yea that is so true! I do actually like them together and I like Sloan as a character on the show and her and Malinda is a fun pairing. To bad she had to go and do bad things lol

Emily O’ Brien Confirmed as Theresa Donovan Replacement on Days of our Lives

At the end of the October 2nd episode of Days of our Lives, and during its closing credits, Emily O’ Brien was listed in the cast playing the role of Theresa Donovan, which confirms the rumors that Emily is taking over the role from Jen Lilley.

So, what does this mean for O’Brien? Does this mean she is exiting her role of Gwen Rizczech, a part she has played since 2020? It would seem so, but this is DAYS after all, so anything is possible.

As the backstage story goes, Jen Lilley, who had played the role of Theresa on and off since 2013, wanted to appear for a limited-run to be a part of the memorial service episodes for Victor Kiriakis, and honoring the late, John Aniston. Lilley often shared scenes with Aniston.

In speaking with on the situation, Lilley thought she was taping episodes during a 3 to 4 window in which she made herself available. However, DAYS actually wrote more episodes of Theresa’s story, and had decided to recast the part with O’Brien  Later, when Jen was told who the actress is, she was a bit mystified as they also told her that the show would put the actress in a blonde wig, because O’Brien was a brunette.
