John Cena Loses to Gunther in Final WWE Match of Historic In-Ring Career on ‘Saturday Night’s Main Event’
The last time is gone. John Cena’s high-profile, beloved and exceptional career as an in-ring WWE superstar came to an end when he tapped out to Gunther in his final match. It was a historic moment in pro wrestling history streaming on WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event on Peacock on December 13.
Cena ended his year-long retirement tour in front of a sold-out crowd of 19,232 at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. Try as he might, and after making several comebacks in the match, including one final Attitude Adjustment, Gunther was relentless in applying sleeper hold after sleeper hold until John finally gave up and tapped out. When Cena “gave up” it was the first time in 20-years he quit a match via submission.
After the match, the crowd was not happy with the outcome, or on social media for the most part, with audible choruses of “boos” and bulls-t” chants for WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, as he made his way to ringside to tell John to watch the videoclip package they were about to play. Surrounded by the current roster of WWE superstars and notables from the past, who were around the outside of the ring, Cena took in the moment.

That package, featured John’s mother and father, among others, and was a retrospective of his life and love of pro wrestling from a little kid until now, which brought everyone to tears. Next, in the most hankie-inducing moment post-match, Cena took off his sneakers and wrist bands and left them in the center of the ring, which is tradition when a wrestler retires and has wrestled their final match.
As a show of their appreciation, CM Punk and Cody Rhodes also gave John their current WWE championship belts to wear and show off in the ring as he took his final bows. Later, Cena took one last look as he made his way to the entrance of the ring ramp. He turned to the audience behind him in the stands – then turned back around – with this final message to the WWE Universe along with his signature salute. “It’s been a pleasure serving you all these years, thank you,” the 17-time champion said as he left for the backstage area to recover from the match.

During the WWE SNME post-show on You Tube, Triple H was boo’d once again by the fans outside of Capital One Arena, for allowing their hero to retire with a loss. “The Game” explained, “John has said the right thing his entire career, that it is about leaving this place better than you found it. There’s no way for people to understand that in the moment. But you do what is right for the business. You do what is right for this industry.”
The theory here is that the choice of Gunther to defeat Cena, only elevates “The Ring General,” who was already a top-tier talent, but now he is a “legend killer” after defeating Cena and earlier this summer, Bill Goldberg on his way out. The victory for Gunther should give him even more status within the company, but many feel he has already been a WWE champion. However, he is yet to be the WWE Undisputed Champion.

From Cena’s viewpoint; the decision for him to either orchestrate, or be OK with this final match being a loss, could be that it’s poetic justice and a full-circle moment for the “John Cena” character. Gunther just didn’t beat Cena. He did the one thing no one has been able to do in 20+years. He made him give up. Cena’s motto had always been “Never Give Up” and “Hustle,” “Loyalty,” and “Respect.” So, if you look at it that way, you could make a case for the way the GOAT’s wrestling career came to an end.
WWE superstars past and presents including: Trish Stratus, Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle, Booker T, Haku, Michelle McCool, Eve Torres, Rob Van Dam and Mark Henry, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens were on-hand at ringside, and Cena made sure to hug and shake their hands before his match with Gunther even started.
There has been no one in the history of professional wrestling like John Cena, who is beloved by children and fans around the world, and let us not forget John has granted the most wishes for the Make-A-Wish Foundation with over 650 which was showcased on the Saturday Night’s Main Event pre-show and throughout the past week, also reducing everyone to tears.
The GOAT made it clear: thon this, his final night of in-ring action, that he wanted to give the “up and comers” a shot, just like he was given when he debuted his “ruthless aggression”against Kurt Angle back on June 27, 2002. So, on the card were three other matches featuring NXT rising stars against several WWE superstars.
Saturday Night’s Main Event – Other Match Results:
WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes vs. NXT Champion Oba Femi– Match ended by a DQ – In the middle of the match, out of nowhere came Drew McIntyre attacking Rhodes. The referee called for the bell.

Photo: WWE
Sol Ruca defeated Bayley – Excellent match. Ruca hit her now patented “Sol Snatcher” but somehow Bayley countered with a roll-up, but Ruca was able to counter-the-counter and pin Bayley.
WWE Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Dragon Lee defeated Leon Slater and Je’Von Evans – This lived up to the high-flying hype. The 21-year-olds, Slater and Evans, athleticism is off the charts, and so too has Styles been for decades and let’s not forget about Luchador, Dragon Lee. At one point, Styles went for a Phenomenal Forearm, but seemed to slip off the ropes. In a quick-thinking moment, Slater jumped on Styles for a pin to distract from the mistake. Styles kicked out and somehow was able to counter Evans flying from the top rope into his patented Styles Clash for the victory.
So, what did you think about John Cena’s final match? Were you OK with the ending where he taps out to Gunther, or would you have like to have seen the 17-time champion go out on a high note with a win and so the crowd in attendance, and at home, left the show in a feel-good moment? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below.
First, check out some of the highlights from Cena vs. Gunther below, followed by an emotional Cody Rhodes taking in the moment in the post-show that the GOAT left his sneakers and armbands in the ring as is tradition when a wrestler retires and how he was overcome.
John Cena taps out on his pro wrestling career. I followed it all and wasn’t his biggest fan but much respect. And thank you Cena!
Days Of Our Lives
DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Marlena Looks Back at 50 Years in Salem

The June 22 episode of Days of Our Lives reminded us all of why Deidre Hall is iconic in the role of Dr. Marlena Evans. Here we are 50 years later, and Marlena is still the heroine of the long-running soap opera, and Deidre remains one of the most most recognizable names in the history of soaps.
To pay tribute, and to look back at the life and times of Marlena, the story starts with Marlena flipping through a photo album of her with John (the late Drake Hogestyn) over the years. As she misses him dearly, she gets a knock on the door and its none other than John’s son, Paul Narita (Christopher Sean).
With Andrew (Colton Little) in Salem working on a case, he sits down with Marlena, who says she can’t believe its been fifty years since she first arrived in Salem! Cue: Deidre’s first scenes on DAYS when she finds Mickey Horton (the late John Clarke) playing chess against himself inside the mental institution she worked.

THE FLASHBACKS OF MARLENA’S LIFE
From there, viewers definitely got the cliff notes version of the history of Marlena and entrenched within them, some of the biggest moments in Deidre’s enduring run.
Paul thinks he is looking at 70s, and early 80s Marlena while going through her scrapbook, but he is actually looking at her twin, Samantha (Andrea Hall). Cue: when Marlena confronted Samantha about impersonating her, and then later getting a call on her radio show from the Salem Strangler (Jack Coleman as Jake Kostichek) who killed Samantha thinking it was Marlena.
In the present, Belle (Martha Madison) has arrived at this time to meet up with Paul, unaware of this trip down memory lane. She wants to go over the findings in the chess board mystery Stefano willed to Marlena and John, in private with him, since Marlena previously said she wanted nothing to do with it.
Back to the history lesson, Marlena speaks highly of Don Craig and even though their marriage didn’t work out, she could find a path forward with the new love her life, Roman Brady. (Wayne Northrop however is never shown, possibly to keep the story focused on John as Roman for confusion sakes?)
Paul sees a photo of a young Carrie (Christie Clark) in the album and Marlena says she was such a godsend after losing her baby. In fact, Marlena says caring for Carrie prepared her for her having and raising her own twins, Eric and Sami. Cue: The twin visiting Marlena in the hospital.
JOHN AND MARLENA’S LOVE CONQUERED ALL
Then, in a way to get through and incorporate the wild storylines only Marlena could have been in, she tells Belle and Paul, she has been through so much in her life, how lucky she was to find John, and some of the most unbelievable experiences no one could imagine. Cue: Marlena possessed by the devil and levitating from the bed. Next, John confronting Marlena being the Salem Stalker, where she admits she killed Alice Horton, pretends she needs help, then pulls a gun on her beloved John!
The comment is made by Paul and Marlena, that she literally has been to hell and back and she could not have survived were it not for her beloved John. Cue the big emotional highpoint clips; The Pier Scene! Marlena steps out of the fog when John sees her from a distance. After believing she was dead for four years, here she was before him in one of the greatest reunions in a soap opera love story in history. What followed were other times of the life of times of Jarlena.

MARLENA’S ‘GIFT’ FROM STEFANO HAS A NEW CLUE
When Marlena makes a brief exit to the other room, Belle fills in Paul on the chess set Stefano left her mother and the photo of the Lire. Paul said he will investigate. Marlena comes back into the room and overhears, and says to promise her if things get dangerous he will back off, she does not want anyone hurt by Stefano’s games.
As the episode comes to a conclusion, it’s just Belle and Marlena going through the photo album giggling about 70s hairstyles and all the memories. Belle speaks on the impact Marlena has had in everyone’s lives, and that she is both the heart of their family and the heart of Salem.
An end card comes up acknowledging Deidre Hall’s 50th anniversary as Marlena, and we fade to black.
So, what did you think of Marlena’s walk down memory lane? Were you happy to see the flashback clips utilized throughout? Were you touched by the scenes and the performance of Deidre Hall? Let us know what you thought of Deidre’s 50th anniversary episode via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sidwell Surfaces; A Twist in Britt’s Condition

On the Thursday, June 18 episode of General Hospital, Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) makes his shocking return right in Port Charles, after fleeing (thanks to Cassius) to supposedly parts unknown to escape capture for trying to kill Dr. Lucas Jones (Van Hansis).
How does he show up in town? First, Ezra (Daniel Cosgrove) gets a text from Jacinda (Paige Herschell) to meet in his hotel room. Ezra thinks the two are going to have a sexcapade so he puts champagne on ice for his favorite escort.
Suddenly, there is a knock at the door. Ezra’s excitement turns towards fear as instead of Jacinda, Sidwell is standing in front of him. Next, Sidwell blackmails Boyle telling him he has plenty of leverage he can use against him. Sidwell wants to use Ezra to help him takedown, Sonny (Maurice Benard), Lucas, Laura (Genie Francis) and Cullum.

ARE SIDWELL’S DAYS NUMBERED?
Meanwhile, Sonny confides in his brother, Ric (Rick Hearst). He says he knows who killed Marco an he is going to use that intel to lure Sidwell out of hiding. Sonny also shares he is going to kill Sidwell, and handle this by himself. He gave the PCPD a chance, but they failed to nab Sidwell for good and lock him up.
Sonny also has been tracking the whereabouts of Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and Rocco (Finn Carr) through Brick, and learned they took a flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and then boarded a fairy to take them somewhere off the island.

BRITT’S ‘SYMPTOMS’ RETURN
Turns out, Britt and Rocco are hiding out in the British Virgin Islands. Britt set up Rocco with a burner phone and a VPN on her tablet, that is not traceable. Rocco reads on the tablet about Lucas’ shooting. Britt starts to have the shakes and passes out. When she comes to, Britt won’t let Rocco call a doctor, but he uses his phone to step on the balcony and call Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) and ask for help. Charlotte looks shocked to hear from her brother as Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) looks on!

However, Joe (Jonathan Bennett) could be the one to put two and two together! While at General Hospital and after questioning Lucas about a syringe he found that was in someone’s possession. the toxicology report showed traces of saline solution, not actual medication. He asks Dr. Jones, why someone would inject themselves with saline? Lucas responds saline is harmless and would have no effect on someone.
So, does this mean that this entire time, Britt has been led to believe that the medication she was taking to treat her Huntington’s disease was placebo? Has Britt been lied to into believing she is dying? Is something else wrong with her instead?
Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below, and if you are ready for Sidwell to finally get his comeuppance from Sonny! But first, watch the scenes where Sidwell comes out of hiding and blackmails Ezra Boyle.
General Hospital
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Dante and ‘Nathan’ Have It Out, Valentin and Carly Share Passionate Moments Which May Be Their Last
On the June 16 episode of General Hospital, the PCPD under acting police commissioner Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) is in a bit of mess and does not go unnoticed by ADA Turner (Nazneen Contractor).
First, there is the whole Chase (Josh Swickard) defending Willow Cain (Katelyn MacMullen) over Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot), who he arrested for allegedly tossing Willow in the waters next to the Quartermaine boathouse. Turner has had it with Chase’s good guy act and how he tampered with evidence in her case against Willow for shooting Drew.
Later, Dante and Justine question “Nathan” (Ryan Paevey) about Sidwell’s escape while in his custody. Turner is not buying his cover story that he was ambushed by Sidwell and his men. Once “Nathan” left the interrogation room, Turner went in on Dante about having “Nathan” on the force after seven years away, and Chase she views as a “dirty cop.”
However, Dante defends both of his officers, but Justine warned that “Nathan” and Chase’s behavior would reflect poorly on Dante as commissioner and she should really think about that. Later, Dante has a terse confrontation with “Nathan” on how he botched a prison transport and that he better watch his back as Justine is one step away from turning this over to Internal Affairs.
COP MADNESS
Next, “Nathan” apologizes for the way he handled the situation with Rocco and says he feels badly. But then in the twist, Dante said that he was grateful that “Nathan” had been there for his son in his time of need (referencing after Rocco shot Cullum and covered it up).
Then, there’s the newest police officer in the precinct, Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett). He may actually be on to “Nathan’s” double life when he questions him about a syringe found in Britt’s room at Bobbie’s. “Nathan” made up a story to counter Joe’s, that he was not aware that his sister was taking anything for her Huntington’s disease diagnosis. Joe called the forensic department lab wanting to know what drug was exactly in the syringe.

BEFORE YOU GO
At Carly’s (Laura Wright), Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) tells her that he must travel to Geneva to speak to the head of the WSB, named Z. Valentin feels it’s the only way to save Josslyn if he informs Z about Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) being a double agent. Valentin shares with Carly that he has to stop Cullum from bringing his dangerous cold fusion device online. Carly is beside herself. She doesn’t want Valentin to sacrifice himself by turning himself into the organization who has made him a fugitive in the first place. Valentin stands firm that he must meet Z in person.
Knowing that revealing himself to the WSB meant he was likely going back to prison, Valentin asked Carly if she’d get in touch with his daughter, Charlotte so he could say good-bye to her. Next, Carly and Valentin make their way to the bedroom to make love, which may be for the very last time, if Valentin is caught and put back in Steinmauer Maximum Security Prison.

CAUGHT BY CULLUM
At the same time while at Wydemere, Cullum is talking with one of his WSB operatives. Now, he is pondering if Valentin and Sidwell were working together all along. Next, Cullum entertains the idea of involving the FBI to locate Britt and Rocco. He says he plans to kill them both once he knows of their whereabouts. Cullum sees the only other threat to the completion of the cold fusion project to be Anna Devane.
Cullum wants to track the location of the unidentified person who called the private clinic in France trying to get in touch with Anna, while pretending to be Kevin Collins. When the agent came back with a report, he says it emanated from a cell tower near Shoreline Road. It’s in the that moment that a light bulb goes on for Cullum! Valentin is in Port Charles and hiding at Carly’s!
So, what do you think of the PCPD cops, Chase, Joe and “Nathan?” Who should Dante fire? Do you think Valentin will go the run?Are you digging Carly and Valentin’s relationship and want it to continue, especially with Finola Hughes on her way back as Anna next month on-screen? Weigh-in via the comment section, and in case you missed it, you can check out our latest interview with Dominic Zamprogna below from his appearance on the Michael Fairman Channel, where he talks the PCPD cops, Rocco on the run, and more.
