Nearly 24 hours, after beloved TV star Marla Gibbs, almost passed out during her induction ceremony to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, comes more news.  Now, Gibbs is set to appear on NBC’s Days of our Lives.

According to SOD, Gibbs will play the mother to Jackée Harry’s, Paulina.  Look for her first appearance in the role of Olivia Price on August 17th.

The former star of The Jeffersons, now 90-years-old, was giving her speech in Hollywood yesterday when suddenly she stopped and began to appear to faint.  Gibbs’ son helped get her into as chair and some water, so she could recover.

The hot temperatures were to blame for Gibbs’ moment, but it all ended up ok.  Her daughter, Angela, told the crowd Marla needed a moment and would continue.

Later after she resumed her speech, Marla told ABC’s George Pennacchio on the Walk of Fame honor: “I never thought it would happen, but here it is.  I just got overwhelmed for a minute. I haven’t been excited until this moment!”

Watch a segment from ABC7 on Marla’s Hollywood Walk of Fame induction below.  Then let us knowl what you think of Gibbs coming to DAYS via the comment section,

So inspirational! I’m certain that Marla will steal every scene that she’s allowed. I can’t wait!

While I am happy for Miss Gibbs, who is an iconic in her own right, I would much prefer the time and writing be geared towards returning past characters than introducing new ones… especially to benefit another new character. I also hope she is already after her incident yesterday.

What a treat to see this great lady again and especially a reunion with her and Jackee. They were so good on 227. I can not believe she is 90 years old.

Violet, I love it! These veterans deserve to keep working. Heck, Ellen Burstyn is 89 and won the New York Film Critics Supporting Actress prize last year for her stunning work in PIECES OF A WOMAN. Cicely Tyson was working into her 90s and produced a wonderful autobiography. This is one trend which Hollywood has made some strides in. Remember when actresses past 40 had to start taking “Mom” roles or else retire. We need the older folks to teach the younger how to sustain their careers also.

Soaphound,
What amazes me is our own Bill Williams at 96 and John Aniston at 88 and a lot of the ladies in their 70’s still going strong. Just to add one more to your list is someone I just love is Rita Moreno at 89 and is fabulous. Iam so envious and admiring of these actors.

Hey Violet! Agreeing with you here. Did you happen to notice, on a recent episode of DOOL, that they showed Paulina’s front door?: “227!”

Yes I did. Guess they have a little more imagination than I thought. I love when they do things like that. Will miss the show the next couple of weeks Iam not into the Olympics, but they left us with a couple of cliff hangers.

There’s no place like home…

Here’s hoping that Jackee elongates the first syllable of Mama like she did with Maaaaary.

Steve
Thanks for the memory. I’d forgotten about that. Yes, it would be great if they did that.

Once again Ron’s diversity means expanding the amount of black characters. Let me know when there are Jewish characters, so far there have been none…or more than one Asian every few months, etc. Nice to see Ms. Gibbs, though. She was hilarious in the Jeffersons…

Zenith, I’m not sure I follow. Ron’s taking an opportunity to add some seasoned and celebrated Emmy Award winning vets to the show, not just “Black Characters” As for Jewish characters (Brandon Barash et al) there are many, some of whom you may be unaware of.

Brandon Barash is a Jewish actor, but his character is Italian. Or at least half Italian. His mother came from a fictional country named after her own family somewhere in Europe.

Brandon’s previous gig on GH was also as a member of an Italian criminal family, though oddly enough all the members of this family were portrayed by Jewish actors.

Both Israel & Italy are on the Mediterranean Sea, so it’s not that implausible, I guess.

Satan: There were Jewish mobsters in real life: Meyer Lansky and Bennie Siegel come to mind. But I’m not sure if I’d want Jewish representation to start out with a Jewish gang, lol. The family could have been though.

Drake; I’m talking about Jewish CHARACTERS; not actors. There are plenty of Jewish actors on soaps; on Days Tamara Braun (Ava) is Jewish in real life as is Brandon Barash (Stefan/Jake) and Ari Zucker (Nicole) and Galen Gering (Rafe; half Jewish). None play Jewish characters.

On GH the first two Carlys (Sarah Brown & Tamara Braun), AJ (Sean Kanan), Johnny (Brandon Barash), Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon), Alexis (Nancy Grahan), Scotty (Kin Shriner), Matt Cohen (Griffin) heck even going back to Jimmy Lee Holt the actor who played him, Steve Bond, was an Israeli Jew. Don Diamont (Bill on B&B) is Jewish in real life; Scott Clifton (Liam) is half Jewish. NONE played Jewish CHARACTERS. Why? Because there are none.

As you know, there are two Asian characters who are rarely seen on Days, two Latinos. And a now defunct gay couple although they’re now dipping their toe into a bisexual couple. So if you’ll notice that pattern, for the most part on ALL the soaps the diversity is mainly adding more and more black characters. That’s not diversity to me; that’s adding black characters. When they add even ONE Jewish character who isn’t a stereotypical accountant, the ex “Bernie,” on GH…let me know….

Zenith
It would be nice if when the Town Square opens up new shops, one of them would be a nice Jewish Deli run by a nice old Jewish mama and papa type. Everyone could come there for coffee, bagels, etc. I suppose that might take away from The Pub though.

Violet; LOL; good idea. They could be the go-to breakfast place and a way to introduce a Jewish family. Curious to see if Ron takes the hint; a few of us have mentioned the lack of Jewish characters on Twitter; so far none of the soaps have created any (though I don’t watch Y&R). The absence of Jewish characters for decades (but for a handful) is glaring to me.

Oh my goodness what a nice surprise.

I think it will turn out that Marla’s character will reveal that Lani is really Paulina’s daughter and not Tamera’s….think of all the DRAMA!!!!!

That would make zero sense, since Abe is Lani’s father, and surely he would remember if he had sex with Paulina back in the day. Which would have been difficult as she wasn’t any where near Salem at the time.

Christine
I Don’t know about that. Have they ever established that Paulina and Abe ever slept together before now? I think after this go around, he’d remember that.

I think Marla’s character will reveal that Lani is really Paulina’s daughter and not Tamera’s…think of all the DRAMA!!!!!
