Every actor who has been on the soaps should take a page out of Nathan Fillion’s playbook.  The star of the upcoming ABC series, The Rookie, and beloved for his role on Castle, Fillion made an impromptu appearance last night at the OLTL/AMC reunion fan event, which was a part of this year’s GH Fan Club Weekend.

Fillion, has never forgotten his soap roots, and always talks about how important those formative years were for him in his career, and never whitewashes that experience, as some actors who have moved on to motion pictures or primetime in Hollywood have done over the years.

Last night, Nathan ran through the main event, mostly to say “hello” to his former on-screen sister, Erin Torpey (the original Jessica Buchanan) and another Buchanan sis, Melissa Archer (Ex-Natalie).  He also stopped by to give hugs to Kassie and James DePaiva (Ex-Blair and Max).

However, perhaps the best photo-op of the night occurred when in the green room.  Nathan posed with two other men who over the 43 years of One Life to Live also played his role of Joey Buchanan … Tom Degnan and Chris McKenna!

Needless to say, the One Life cast in attendance and the fans were greatly appreciative of Nathan coming to honor Llanview!

Michael Fairman TV will have more on the story coming up.

What do you think of Nathan showing up at the One Life reunion? Comment below.

They could do an online reboot of OLTL…

That was tried,, PP went bankrupt trying to bring the debunked soaps to online,,
the money need just was not there.
they gave it their best but a tv soap on the internet is not doable unless Netflix would take them on and that will never happen 🙁

What a wonderful surprise. I love the picture of the three Joeys. It’s great to see Melissa and Erin too. Nathan seems like a very genuine and special person. Wish I’d been there. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss One Life to Live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing this with us.

I didn’t watch in later years, but in the start up with the two generations of Woleks, my favorite being Vinnie and of course his buddy, Wanda.

It broke my heart when Vinnie died. I loved that character.

Erin torpey will forever be jessica

I loved watching Erin grow up before our very eyes. It was also great when she’d return as the ghost of baby Megan. From what I understand, it was her choice to leave the role of Jessica when she did. TPTB got lucky with the recast. In my opinion, Bree Williamson was excellent as the adult Jessica.

A class act

That shows a lot of class.

I’ve seen some actor’s biographies before, who once played on soaps, and nary a mention of that part of their life, as though it never existed. They must have felt embarrassed because of it. But, wow what a training ground having to learn pages and pages of script every day. It only makes you a better actor.

I’m happy to see that he’s not only true to his roots, but to himself as well. Looking forward to watching him on The Rookie. The best of luck to you, Nathan. I always enjoyed you on OLTL.

When James Franco worked on GH, he was in awe of the dedication, preparation, and talent that daytime actors possess. So I think it’s great that Nathan is grateful for his roots. Looking at that photo also reminds me of how much I adored Tom Degnan during his time on ATWT. Why can’t they grab him for Y&R? He’s a good actor, really great-looking, and has the experience..maybe instead of surplus Shauna or needless Nate, they can find a part for terrific Tom.

I don’t recognize Tom Degnan, but yes he is very handsome and should be on a soap again.

I think Tom played Margo Hugh’s son, Adam on ATWT, if that’s any help.

Oh okay, thanks!

0ooh no!
” The Rookie ” Another cop show..
Network tv is bursting with cop shows..

I want SyFy, the good stuff as once the X Files was and Star Trek to mention just 2 ..
tired of cop shows give me some great syfy !!!

So, I’m out ..

Nathan Fillion also started in the SyFy series Firefly..

Hi Avie..
I had never heard of Firefly so googled it
that was like 15yrs back..
”Firefly is an American space Western drama television series which ran from 2002–2003”

So, I never seen it and being a SyFy fan I wish I had..
Maybe it will be a re-boot someday.

If you enjoy SyFy – you have to see Firefly. It is available on Amazon Prime and DVDs. I’m not a particular SyFy fan, but this show was beyond that. I didn’t see until Nathan was on “Castle” and there was so much written about it. Find it! You won’t be sorry.

It’s on Netflix. And there are DVDs. The 13 episodes were followed by a movie Serenity, also on Netflix and DVD.
And then the live action stories were followed by comics/graphic novels mostly from Dark Horse, but there is a new one coming out in November from another publisher.
Also stars Morena Baccarin (Deadpool) Adam Baldwin (The Last Ship) Gina Torres (Suits,Cleopatra 2525) Ron Glass (Barney Miller) Jewel Staite (every second Lifetime movie) Sean Maher (PanAm) and Alan Tudyk (I Robot, Wreck It Ralph, Frozen, ConMan).
Oh yeah– check out ConMan. It’s a webseries and hilarious.

Michael, thanks for reporting on this event. Look forward to more articles about the OLTL and AMC reunion that took place. I remember Chris McKenna as a young Joey during the Billy Douglass storyline. Can someone trigger my memory about when Tom Degnan played him. Was he the blond haired Joey who was going to be a minister? Thanks.

Tom Degnan played Joey in 2010-11 during the time that Joey was involved with con artist Aubrey Wentworth and her brother, (really boyfriend and partner) Cutter Wentworth. Aubrey wanted to marry Joey for his money. Joey eventually reunites with Kelly Cramer and they went off to London together.

A young man named Bruce Michael Hall was the blond guy when Joey wanted to become a minister. From what I remember, he wasn’t around very long.

EXCEPTIONAL CLASS! BRAVO!

Hello, Jamesj75! Haven’t touched base with you in a while. I also think Nathan Fillion seems like a classy guy. I was always skeptical about those reported feuds between him and Stana Katic on CASTLE. He just doesn’t seem like the selfish type. Anyway, he’s a likeable actor with great hair and a terrific smile. Who could ask for more? He’s no Billy Miller, but I digress.

Hi Soaphound! Thanks for your reply! So great to see all this goodwill for this terrific actor who exudes goodwill and class. You characterize Fillion fittingly favorably. I think of him most fondly when his character “Joe” had an affair with Dorian on OLTL. BTW, my visits here are sparse, so that’s on me… I’ve become even less than backburner, more like an occasional cameo… But I do appreciate all the great people here, such as yourself! Take care.

Nathan Fillion continues to prove what a class act he is! His love of his soap roots and being a sweet soul definitely helped him go far in his career!

Ah, Nathan is the coolest guy. Well, I’ve never met him; however, he seems to be a personable, humble guy!

He’s so humble. Love him.

NF is a class act of always acknowledging his daytime roots. I applaud and respect him for it. I wish more actors would do so. Nice pictures. I look forward to Michael’s interview with him.

Always been a fan of his -not just his work, but his work ethic and his devotion to fans and an understanding of his many genres wide fan base- whether it be soaps, Dr. Horrible, Firefly, Santa Clarita, Castle, etc … smart guy even appeared on Big Bang Theory poking fun of himself.

He’s a class act, and a stellar actor, all the way!

Class act.

I watched OLTL from the beginning.. BUT.. Stopped when Nathan Fillion left the show. I have been following him thru the years on TV and enjoyed the voice overs he has done in the video games Halo on XBox and in Destiny and Destiny2 on PlayStation 4 as the sexy, wisecracking Exo Hunter Vanguard, Cayde-6. As much as we hate to see him gone from Destiny Forsaken, his fan base from the Destiny franchise will be watching him star in his new TV series, The Rookie, on ABC. Outstanding, Nathan! If you ever play Destiny on PS4, I am msavie and possibly the oldest to play Destiny from day 1 of the first beta on PS3! Congratulations on The Rookie!

Some stars who make it are embarrassed of their soap past. Not Nathan. First class move buddy.

Another stellar performer Judith light is proud of her years on ol

Sounds like something he would do.

An online reboot of OLTL would make a lot of people very very happy. Miss it oh so much, one can only hope
