On Friday’s episode of ABC’s General Hospital, Nick Stabile (Sunset Beach, Days of our Lives, Dawson’s Creek, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) made his on-screen debut as Nikolas Cassadine.

As fans of the daytime drama series know, Stabile was brought in as a temporary replacement for Daytime Emmy winner Tyler Christopher (Nikolas) who has left the series for a bit for personal reasons.

Stabile takes over at a key point in Nikolas’ disappearance storyline, where it was revealed that Nik, and none other than Ava Jerome (Maura West), where on the same flight out heading to London, but have now appeared to be kidnapped by Huxley played by the ATWT alum trent Dawson, who also debuted this week on the sudser.  This sets the stage for more scenes between Stabile, West, and Dawson.

Meanwhile, viewers learned that Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel) has been in on his father’s “death” all along after he places a phone call to Nikolas where he says: “Trust me, I’ve got your back father.  I should win an Emmy for this, no an Oscar! Call me back.”  Only after he receives the call, Nikolas has no cell reception in the place where Huxley has taken the dark prince and Ava.  We come to find out by the end of the episode it’s not Nikolas who Huxley has a major interest in, but Ava Jerome!

So, what were your first impressions of Stabile as Nikolas?  What have you thought about how Maura West’s Ava Jerome is mixed in to the story?  Did you guess all along that Spencer was in on his father’s plot to some extent?  Have you enjoyed seeing Trent Dawson as Huxley? What on earth does Huxley want with Ava?  Share your thoughts on all of these questions in the comment section below!

Real Nik needed a shave…fake Nik is clean shaven-lol…Huxley-hate the cartoonish accent…maybe Huxley is interested in Ava because Connie is still alive, and Huxley has her in a plot against the Jeromes and mostly against Sonny!!!…just kidding…lol

Hey, Jimmy, I like it. Kelly Sullivan may be available, now that she’s off Y&R.
It’s very possible Huxley’s plot includes Connie. If she’s alive, Sonny and Carly have nothing to hold over Ava’s head.
And, imagine the cat fights between The two CC’s. Ha!! Get my drift?
I love, love, love Nick Stabile much more than chubby cheeks. I wish he would play the fallen-from-grace-prince Valiant permanently.

I know…watched her ghostly appearance to Sharon who im surprised hasnt gone wacky doodle Heather Webber style by now…lol….i watched Nick on Sunset Beach many moons ago…they can always bring him back as Valentin Cassidine…Micheal E. has played 4 roles so why cant this guy play another character…my problem with Mr. Chubby Cheeks is he always act as if he is bored and wishes he were someplace else…Nick Stable would make a good Peter Blake on Days!!!

I would love to see Nick Stabile permanently on GH..He has been doing a great job as Nikolas..he fits the part and is much better to look at than tyler christopher i think…really would like to see him stick around!

I noticed the clean-shaven face too. Thought I missed a scene…

They should had explained Nick took a bath and shaved but i thought the beard thing was so he could travel incognito…

Yeah, clean shaven vs fully bearded! So much for continuity. Not digging Huxley. More mystery that will go nowhere?

They should have said he shaved…i thought the beard was to disguise himself…Huxley so far isnt as good as i thought he would be…he is a little too cartoonish!!!

Not digging Huxley, either.
No looks to speak of or personality. Do not like his forced acting….and, why does he keep calling Nik “Mr. Carradine”? I noticed it yesterday, too.
Also, please PTB, spare me Morgan’s oh, so joyful homecoming. How long until the Corinthoses will be at each other’s throats again?
I surely hope Kiki and Dillon will become an item. And, Morgan finds them in the act. He did plenty of that to Kiki.

Duh, Melissa. I blundered again. I forgot Nik’s using a fake name. Nonetheless, he is an internationally known prince?

Not impressed–with either.

Right, Jimmy. Not only travel incognito, which is so dumb, anyway……he is a Prince; recognizable with or without a beard; with or without shades.
Besides, where did Nik find the place or time to shower and shave? Did I miss something from the time he landed to where he is now with Ava at Huxley’s oh-so-opulent fortress?
The creators of this debacle do not give ‘scripts’ the time of day; thus, the inconsistencies.
It rather sticks in the craw to think that the soaps’s omnipotent ‘yay gods’ assume we are that ‘accepting’ of stupid scenarios, eh, Jimmy?

Happy Daddy’s Day EVERYONE!!

Too bad Carlos didnt clean up that way-lol

How stupid do they think we are and yet expect us to accept this change in actors. Frankly I think it is an insult to our intelligence shame on them.

well… one… I’m really – really – glad , Nicholas told his son

just as Ava – shared – on the plane… did she ever… learn her lesson… when it comes to their’ “children”

is this all worth it at the expense of their child?

whew!

dang it! I hope… Tyler Christopher and Maura West … get to reconnect

this is spotlight time… Trent Dawson is

I’m not familiar with this actor but I thought he was great. Looks a bit like Sean Kanan. I like that they’re pairing characters together that haven’t had scenes together before; kinda keeps it fresh. However, it was kind of ridiculous that Nicolas tried to hide his identity from Ava when he said she might have him mixed up with someone else. Really? His cousin Alexis is married to her brother…lol…the writers write ridiculous things like this all the time.
In spite of bloopers like that, I think GH has been great lately. It’s going at a good pace and I think they’re mixing several mysteries involving many of the characters…vets and relative newbies alike. AND, they’re managing to do that while still incorporating romance. Never heard or saw the actor playing Huxley, but he’s very good. I think the stories are going to be fun.

It has improved somewhat…and i agree about that silly blooper part…i liked the actor who plays Huxley better when he was on ATWTs but so far he is not winning me here but that could change in time…i did not like Britt at first but she grew on me and i miss that character…i thought that Huxley would be new Amy’s big brother and the two of them would be responsible for those hospital deaths and framing Finn for them for some reason!!!

I thought he did great too and it cannot be easy grabbing the baton from a veteran character and a core character in the middle of a climatic storyline.
He did so seamlessly–bravo!

I don’t watch GH but this new Nikolas is hot.

Most likely Hux wants that artifact that Ava was going to show privately would be my guess. I do hope the character is faking an English accent and will drop it soon.As for the new Nik– the jury is still out– did they explain why he didn’t have a bread, if not they should had glued a fake one on him—– And didn’t we all guess weeks ago that Spencer was in on it.

Story line poorly constructed for sure.
Re Nickolas–really unbelievable that Nickolas would make his son part of a “pretend” death–and make Laura his mother suffer.

True, nancy. This is why I questioned Laura’s nonchalance over her son’s disappearance and possible death. Really? I would be tearing my hair out.
Does she or does she not know? If she knows; is she aware Spencer also knows? I repeat….such a dumb premise and not a well-thought-out script.

Boy if that were Lucky she would care!

I knew, from day one, without doubt, that Spenser was in on it , he knew.
No WOW moment..

It will be fun to have a stand-in Nikolas; something different (which is badly needed)

But su0000, don’t you agree that it’s a bit sick of Nickolas to bring his son in on the deception about his death? And to keep it from his mother Laura? Nickolas is really proving that he is as cruel as his father.

Hi Nancy…

A cruel Nickolas is so much better for entertainment that the normal good guy Prince Nickolas of old..The show needs that kind of change for him..He can become the new “Adam Chandler” or the new “Dorian Lord”

Cruel, scheming, making the wrong choices always but at the end of the day, really passionate about those they loves, even if their intentions are selfish and wrong!!

Just saying!

I agree. Nik is being written right into a sink-hole. Unless he is proven to be an imposter, Nik will be a lost cause.
PC has enough baddies; we do not need more.
Even the worst fathers would not put their child through this…on Father’s Day of all days….LOL and HaHHa!!
All sign point to the fact Nik told Spencer what he was about….staging his death, or whatever. Admittedly, Spencer is an extremely precocious child, yes; yet, he’s a child nonetheless. I don’t know how much longer he could carry this load, if he knows the truth. Are we sure?
I think Laura knows the truth….she’s just too calm….nary a hair out of place.
There is not entertainment here, at least, not for me. To each his/her own, I guess.
I like the new Nik…..sooo much more. However, I will not delude myself in thinking Tyler won’t return. Ugh!!

Bummed Tyler wasnt in today’s scenes just when I was getting into Ava & Nic! Nick Stabile didn’t do a bad job though but I miss Tyler already. Loved Spencer today and yes, I figured Nic wouldn’t let his son think he’s dead. Nicolas Betchel is the cutest!!!

If not somewhat tiresome and totally unbelievable.

Thought they could have at least dyed his hair black. But I liked his delivery.

I thought it sounded like he was just reading his lines. Not good at all.

I thought Jen Lilly did a great job as a temporary Maxie a few years back until Kristen Storms could return. I also thought Martha Madison did really well stepping into the role of Liz Webber, in the middle of an intense story line several years back.

This one I am not feeling. At all.

I think TEMP Nick will get better. He has to get into Tyler’s groove.

Jen Lilley should have been Maxie’s replacement but she was still with DAYS when Kristen took time off.

Every time I hear the name Jen Lilley, I get a lump in my throat. I will miss her soooo much. That expressive face tells a million stories.
I adore her, nothing against Bree Williamson, I like her, but Jen? She should have been brought in…..actually, it would be great if she took the place of Nurse Amy….better yet, another female cop. Not enough women on PCPD.

I wish that Tyler was involved more at this point. But if he needed time off, I’m ok with a filler, since I know it’s not permanent.

I love Trent Dawson. The character is somewhat one dimensional but still fun. He has always played odd ball characters previously and done so quite well. The new temporary Nikolas is …ummm….well he IS…he’s no where near as fine as Tyler Christopher nor is he as detailed in his performance. I hope Tyler returns quickly. I could watch Ava in any scene and enjoy her cause — I LOVE MAURA WEST — Rock on GH, I am with you for the ride.

I can do without the character of Ave–and can do without her being a part of the Nickolas “disappearance.” WHY?

All I know is that GH is getting more and more un-recognizable, and it isn’t just the change in actors, even if temporary. Spencer knowing doesn’t surprise me, but for some reason he doesn’t seem as “cute” to me anymore. As for Ava and a Huxley connection, I’m reaching the point were I just don’t care.

Agreed!

I have watched General Hospital for 20 years. The story lines are finally improving, which I am happy to see, I almost stopped watching. However, I am not liking the new Nikolas, its nothing personal, he just seems a bit flat. Tyler Christopher is a great actor and I hope he returns.

You missed the best years in the 80’s when Lucy Coe played a librarian by day and was totally opposite by night. The show was awesome back then.

Tough shoes to fill. And they have changed the character of Nikolas so much he is hard to like unless played by Tyler Christopher.

As for Ava, I usually FF through all her scenes. I’m watching her now that she is with Nikolas.

He looks more like AJ than Nik. Kind of wish GH got him when Sean Kanan left the show.

I hadn’t thought of that, but… damn, he does look a lot like AJ!

I FF when Carly is on…she yells too much.

I think he did a fine job of hitting the essence of Nikolas. I’ve always liked Nick Stabile, so it was good to see him on screen again. But, of course, I look forward to Tyler’s return to the role.

Nikolas would never hurt his son by faking his death and not letting Spencer know. However, this story is a stretch of the imagination. I’ll play along just because the story is moving along faster than some other snail’s-paced-stories and has me intrigued.

I love Trent, but that accent is SO annoying and his dialogue is dreadful. Still, I was surprised to find out it is Ava he’s interested in. Wonder where this is going? My suspicions are that S&J are going to come to their rescue. *Yawn* Hope I’m wrong and it’s someone else. I also hope that this story leads to other layers in their relationships once they’re back in PC and not a self-contained s/l.

Rodd, I agree, especially about the JaSam rescue coming later. Don’t care for the Trent Dawson role, which is too bad, as I loved him on ATWT. I think Nick Stabile is good but seems too old for the role (though he probably isn’t). Then again, I’m not a fan of premature gray on anyone.

Hi Soaphound…I think Tyler is 43, Nick Stabile 45. Can’t believe how much he looks like Sean Kanan!

Right, Rodd? I think we were all mouth-agape when he showed interest in Ava.
Maybe, just maybe, Huxley may know something about Connie’s death.
Jimh did predict that Connie could be alive.

“Mouth-agaping”

I look forward to watching this episode today. I’m sure Sonny has a hand in this. Ava is a murderer and belongs in jail. The actress is daytime royalty thus we must suspend disbelief. MW is a wonderful actress. Though, I have never liked any character she has played.

i wish if the actor is not available to play the role then they wouldn’t be replaced, i’m sure as far as money/budget goes its probably easier, but if the actor contractually playing the role needs to go on a emergency leave, their stories needs to be re written, modify or something because having a new actor playing the role completely ruins the storyline, with kirsten storm taking a leave next its already ruined especially if claudette is introduced and interacts w/ substitute maxie.

Interesting news: I just read on Nick’s IMDB the following: Before Sunset Beach, Stabile also tested for the role of Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital (which went to Tyler Christopher).

Mmmmm.

Would love for Connie to be alive, but not for a Sonny and Connie redux! Despite what others think, I like Carly and Sonny! Not a fan of the Nic character but Tyler is a good actor… not sure I like this one!

Mr. Stabile is a dead ringer for Sean Kanan from a distance. Too bad we could not have kept AJ with his replacement. But water under the bridge.

Nicholas Betchel still makes the show worth watching any day.

I was thrown by the Hux being after Ava. Not easy to do after 53 years of soap watching GH. My guess is that Ava has a piece of Art work that Hux either wants or owns. Ava is such a delightful floosie.

Damn, Mary K, was thinking the exact same thing.
He could have made a great AJ recast. That said, he could have made a great Jason recast given his resemblance to Steve Burton.

He would have been better than Sleepy Miller!

Hope he’s just on for a short time. Nobody does Nik like TC.

Liked Trent Dawson as Henry on ATWT but not digging his faux British accent. I’m all for Ava being moved into the orbits of other characters not tied to the mob and think Nikolas was a good choice but this story already feels like a miss — instead of throwing these two into a steamy affair we’re going to be saddled with some lame “adventure.” Ugh.

I am guessing that Ava scammed Huxley out of some artwork and now he is going to take his revenge. Maybe it’s the set decor, but for some reason I’m getting a “Most Dangerous Game” vibe as the direction this story is headed (and if I’m right, please don’t let it include a location shoot in that thing passing for Port Charles park these days…)

This replacement Nik, is terrible. He’s suppose to be a dark Prince, and there’s nothing dark, Prince about him. Nor does he look anything like gorgeous Nicholas Cassendine. I did not like his acting either. I was very Dissapointed. As far as Huxley goes, I love him, chubby cheeks and all. He is a very interesting actor, and is a great actor. I look forward to seeing more of him, and what he has in store for Ava. Hope Tyler Christopher comes back soon, because he has great chemistry with Ava, and Hayden has great chemistry with Dr. Finn.

Oh come on–give the guy a break. He comes in the middle of a climatic story arc and takes the baton from Tyler without blinking and he was great in that he did not get in the way of the story.
It cannot be easy. And as you know, he is just temporary.
Can we please cop our temporary actors a break? They are not strike breakers for God’s sake! They are not trying to take anyone’s job. No, they are merely just filling in for an actor who needs some time off. And this comes from me–one of the most critical commentators here.

Well said Harry!!

I agree Harry. The guy is good but he is NOT Tyler so people bitch! I wish GH would hire him to play a different role when Tyler returns.

Thank you!! I happen to like nick Stabile. I have seen him in other shows. We’re all just use to Tyler. I’m only watching because of the OLTL actors.

Golly gee, Susan….different taste in men, I suppose. I find nothing attractive about Tyler. Cupid lips, and chubby cheeks!!
Nicholas Stabile is a hot hunk, in my opinion. Perfect masculine features. His name STABILE (Stable, as in; grounded, firm, in Italian) speaks for itself. Too bad he’s a temp.
Good show, darling Harry…thank you, you said it.

That’s your opinion about the temporary Nik, certainly not mine. I don’t think he’s a hunk at all. I think the opposite of him. As far as my not writing his last name, correctly, who cares. I still think he’s boring, and his acting is not good for the dark Prince. He had no chemistry with Ava, as Tyler Christopher, had on the plane. He was just reading his lines, and that’s it. I was very dissapointened in him, and GH should have used the Nik, that they had for 6 years, when Tyler left the show, many years ago. He looked similar to Tyler Christopher, and was a great actor. Don’t remember his name though. GH could have done better with the temporary Nik, then they did with this guy. I did love the Trent Dawson though. He came on like he was doing Huxley for years, and although, it’s just for the storyline, I wish we could keep him. My son says the same thing about temp Nik, and Huxley. We all have the rights to our opinions, and just because you think my opinion is wrong, does not mean you are right. I love GH, and prey that Tyler Christopher, comes back soon. So you enjoy, this Nik, and think he is a hunk, but I will not, nor will I enjoy his acting. There’s nothing you can say, to make me think different. I will still watch GH though, and if this Nik gets better at acting, then maybe I will change my mind, but for his first day, he was terrible in my eyes. As far as him being a hunk goes, even if he gets better at acting, In my eyes, I don’t think he’s a hunk. That will not change, but if he acts like the dark Prince, I will enjoy him better.

@Susan.
Oh, Susan, the last thing I wanted to do was offend you. We have a difference of opinion, that’s all. This is good. It generates conversation. I sincerely respect your opinion…..everyone’s opinion.
I never said you did not spell his name correctly. Good heavens!!!! I make so many typos, I would be the last to talk.
I suppose I did not communicate what I was trying to express. I was merely saying that his surname describes his person. Stabile means ‘stable’ in Italian….not as ‘barn’ but, as in steady; sane.
Again, I apologize if I gave the wrong message. I would never do that, Susan, honest!! Peace.

Susan, I bet IF Tyler comes back his personality won’t be dark.

This is the one story line I am enjoying even though it is still early. Love that Nicholas and Ava are sharing a story line! I thought the replacement gentleman did quite well for Day One. Happy to know many others thought ‘Sean Kanan’ right away because I sure did, LOL! If B&B ever needs to cast a brother for Deacon…
Of course, I have a soft spot for Trent Dawson. I was so hoping when he was starting to reveal a motive that he would drop the accent! Would have been cool and Trent could pull it off well.

I dint like the constant glares at Ava… The actor seemed a bit intimitated…. I will give him a week or two and then judge.. How long is he going to be on? As for who is framing Finn… Of course i think Amy, who could be related to Finn’s dead wife, but what if it’s Franco???? Could he be the mercy killer? It’s seems the targets are older parients near death (lucas was not part of the killer’s plan)… This could get interesting if the show moves towards a real mercy killing storyline again! Remember Mellisa ? Jensen Buchannan played her and she killed suffering patients. Death assistance is a very hot topic right now (in Canada anyway) so maybe the killer is actually Finn who wants to ease the pain of patients that he know will die a suffering death??? Maybe he has a suffering disease and wants to avoid the pain.

Yes, very interesting points, you make, Ghlover. You stir up many possibilities, which make so much sense. Never even gave this Amy person a second thought. But, now, yeah…..she could be very instrumental in setting up Finn.

I hope Tyler comes back ASAP. I was really into the chemistry he had with Maura West right off the bat, and his incognito look with the beard and glasses. Took me out of the story with this new actor showing up, freshly shaven, with grayish hair, and my first impression is I wasn’t impressed. He came across very wooden, like someone trying very hard to remember his lines. But Tyler left big shoes to fill, so I’m certainly willing to give him a chance, and hope he grows into the role, for as long as he’s gonna be on the show.

I think Huxley is an interesting character. Weird and quirky, but you know he’s really up to no good. They haven’t had a new, interesting villain in quite a while. I’m intrigued by him and what he wants with Ava. It helps that Maura can do a scene with a lamp shade and make it look good.

I really enjoyed this past week’s episodes. Nikolas and Ava on their adventure, Sam and Jason on their adventure, the wedding of Lucas and Brad finally taking place, the drama with Alexis and Julian, love Alexis finally showing some back bone and Julian reverting back to his evil side, plus some good scenes for the vets with Monica dealing with the Finn situation at the hospital, Felicia’s cute conversation with Emma, and Laura and Kevin meeting about Spencer. They gave a little something for everyone this week.

I”M I so glad posts are recognizing …

“:…I was really into the chemistry he had with Maura West right off the bat, ”

it was palpable enticing and ahem LOVING it

GH… there could be so much feast… if they’d just write mix and use ALL your talent

i’ll take Ava , Nicholas, and Huxley … for the win… however this spins

Tyler who?

Mixing Ava into a cassadine story intrigues me. It’s nice to see characters step out of from under their usual scene mates. See g the same people together makes it all seem very repetious. Some fans are noticeably awfully petty about the beard deal. Why waste story time explaining why one cut their beard? We all knew a new actor was stepping in. Petty petty petty. Xoxo

Yes, yes, and more yesses, Allen. Perfettamente.

Week said!

I’m glad you can relate

I miss Tyler already!!! I was really into the Ava and Nik thing when it was Tyler and Maura. This new guy doesn’t do it. While he is cute, hes not Tyler:(.

Laura does not know its crazy to think outherwise

Not impressed at all with new cassadine, get Tylor back and QUICK!

I miss Tyler Christopher in the part of Nicolas. The new one is ok, but not the same.
I have a feeling that another actor Michael Easton is leaving again?

Don’t like the replacement. Someone dark an more senister has to play Nicholas! !!!

I like the old nikolas alot, but the new one is alright. Although, the new nikolas seems to lack depth and somewhat void of outward emotion. But, in his defence, he’s new at playing nikolas and I will definitely keep the door open for him to adjust to his new role.
I hope the old nikolas is doing alright and look forward to his return.

I love reading all of your comments. I totally understand how di-hard fans fight for their favorite characters and can’t blame them AT ALL.

I also really appreciate those of you who have said give him a chance. I got the role on Wednesday night and shot 40 pages Thursday morning. It was a little intimidating. Anyway. Thank you all for watching and I sincerely appreciate what EVERYONE has to say. This is a business of thick skin. I certainly have gotten that in 20 + years acting in Los Angeles. Best Nick

I loved you in Nick Jr. Fun movie.

Come back, Nick. “Mi manchi tanto”. ( I miss you).
I hope to see you on any soap, in any capacity. It could not have been an easy task to step into another actor’s role; considering how Tyler is loved by many.
But, you fit into his shoes with remarkable ease and walked the mile with finesse. Loved your performance. A true thespian. Be proud!!
You and Maura West are a match made in soapland.
“Buona fortuna”. Ciao.

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

Patrick J. Gibbons

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.

However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.

Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG

Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!

Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”

MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL

Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).

Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY

Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”

It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”

A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS

As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”

He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”

Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.

So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Published

on

By

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.

Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.

Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON

Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”

Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”

When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES

One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”

“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good.  I was working with Dominic  Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.

A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?

As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”

Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Ric’s History of Jealousy Where Elizabeth is Concerned Has Come Back Around

On General Hospital, Ric Lansing (Rick Heart) is about to fall back into dangerous old patterns by the foreshadowing during the Wednesday, August 19 episode. After first coming to see his brother, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and telling him of his plan to propose to Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) his longtime love tonight, Sonny has concerned.

Next, Sonny reminds his brother of what has happened in the past, when things have gone south with Elizabeth and wonders if it’s too soon for him to propose to her. What Ric did not tell Sonny is that he has seen the developing closeness between Sonny’s son, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Elizabeth, which is propelling his urgent need to propose.

Meanwhile, Dante ran into Elizabeth at the park during a break from their mutual team softball games. She needs help with a bookcase after the game at her house. Dante wants to put it together for her. Later, Dante arrived at Elizabeth’s house, limping after injuring his knee during the game. Head nurse Liz wanted to check out the injury as much as Dante protested, which required him to take off his pants.

RIC BEGINS TO UNRAVEL

Outside Elizabeth’s widow, Ric arrives with a bouquet of roses and the engagement ring. When he leers through the widow he is shocked to see Elizabeth rubbing Dante’s leg while Dante is in his boxer/shorts. He storm troops into the house, demanding to know what is going on here? Both Elizabeth and Dante look surprised by his reaction. In the pick-up of today’s Thursday, August 20 episode (see GH video teaser below), viewers will learn the upshot for all three characters.

A VENGEFUL PAST

As longtime GH fans know, Ric has done some horrible, vengeful things in regards to Elizabeth starting back in 2003 after she lost her baby after Ric’s ex, Faith Rosco pushed her down a flight of stairs. Ric accused Sonny for the accident and to get revenge, Ric kidnapped Carly (who was married to Sonny at the time), and stashed her in a panic room below the house where he was living with Liz.

On top of that, Ric fed his wife Elizabeth birth control pills to keep her from getting pregnant so that they could raise Carly’s baby together after it was born. Eventually, Elizabeth found Carly in the panic room but ended up having a pulmonary embolism. When she woke up in the hospital, Elizabeth was all confused by what happened, and Ric convinced her that her vision of  Carly was just a bad dream. Eventually, Elizabeth learned the horrifying truth and divorced Ric.

Years later, Ric noticed the connection between Elizabeth and “Jake Doe” who eventually turned out to be Drew (Billy Miller) A jealous Ric hired Hayden Barnes to show up and claim to be “Jake’s” wife. Elizabeth stepped aside, and when Ric planned to propose to Elizabeth at the 2015 Nurses Ball, Carly exposed his manipulations, and Elizabeth dumped him yet again. And those are just two examples of the lengths Ric will go to for Elizabeth!

So, we ask you, given the history of Elizabeth and Ric, how do you see this playing out with Dante in the picture? How will Ric derail their growing bond? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
