Y&R is just not that good to be #1 for decades, some years were terrible.
There has to be something rigged with its ratings for it be near 5 million.
Y&R can no way be #1 for decades, it is not probable; the soap is simply not that good.
CBS airs their soaps internationally in 32 countries and some how that must have an effect of their numbers.

GH airing in USA and Canada is an excellent soap and the best soap, by far..
((I am a fan of both Y&R and GH and watch both..

“General Hospital” has literally been on fire here lately. I have been watching this show since 1992 and I honestly think it is on par with the excellent stories “GH” was showcasing around 1994 and 1995. Yes, THAT good.

“Days of Our Lives” on the other hand. Quit that show way back in 1987 when it started becoming the soap opera version of “The Jerry Springer Show.” Never looked back.

DAYS has gone through many facelifts over the past 26 years. Give it a fair shot today before you knock it. You might be pleasantly surprised. Personally, I think the stories over the past year have been the strongest they’ve been in many, many years. Overall, this show has been so entertaining, so satisfying, so engaging and exciting over the year, with great umbrella stories that have interesting layers, reach fantastic climaxes, spawn other great stories, involve many characters and give the actors juicy material to play with. If you love good soap, then what it was like when Reagan… Read more »

Days of Our Lives is great and stronger than ever (largely in part) because of WILSON and the Producers know that – that’s why they want to make sure that the role of Will
continues to go on after the upcoming New Year.

Without Wilson there is no DAYS and I am certain a deliberate move in that direction is coming soon or DAYS is done in general.Check next ratings without Chandler.

You do NOT know what you are talking about! DAYS has never been all about one thing. Many people contribute to the successes and failures
of DOOL. Chandler/Will does not make or break DAYS. No one does!!!

Glad ratings are up. Just keep getting tired of only hearing about the key demo. Remember it’s all the rest of us that aren’t in the demo that have helped keeps soaps afloat over the years. Show us some respect!

So happy to see the ratings increased for ALL soaps..I have a great feeling that soaps will be continuing to make a surge and hopefully the younger generation will increase and make the genre relevant again and eventually further increase the ratings where MAYBE serial dramas can expand in daytime or maybe bring iconic soaps back in television/internet, like Prospect Park is doing or did with AMC/OLTL.

I wish the ratings reflected the high entertainment value. DOOL and GH
should be way higher in the ratings! I’m not saying YawneR should go
down. The other hourlong soaps should just be obove YackeR. Maybe
next YeaR.

GH and DAYS are doing awesome. Both shows are great, and I wish their numbers were higher. It’s hard to believe that a show can stay on nowadays with only 2 to 3 million viewers, but I guess TV is saturated, and I’m not sure the rating system is accurate anyway. Y&R was my favorite all the way up until the late 00’s, early 10’s, but it has been systematically destroyed by the axis of awful show runners: LML, MAB, JFP. Maybe Y&R should hire their next show runner with only one first name and one last name, like Jared… Read more »

Breaking News

Melissa Reeves Has NOT Been Fired From Days of our Lives

A technical error caused a bit of a firestorm on Monday night, and a retraction early Tuesday morning when an item appeared most notably on TV Line’s partner’s feed, Yahoo News, that had a headline stating that Melissa Reeves (Jennifer) had been fired from Days of our Lives.

If site visitors and readers looked closely, there were actually two versions of the opening line that appeared.  One of which was noting that Reeves was apologizing for “catching heat” from co-stars and fans for backing a post by Candace Owens that was Anti-Black Lives Matter, and the other one that she was fired from the NBC soap opera.

TV Line early Monday morning issued this statement to clarify what happened and confirmed that Reeves had NOT been fired from DAYS: “Due to technical error, a story was briefly published on TVLine on Monday evening — and has since surfaced on several of our partner feeds, most notably Yahoo — that erroneously claims Days of Our Lives has fired Melissa Reeves. The story is false. Melissa Reeves has not been fired from Days of Our Lives. In the meantime, we apologize for the error.”

DAYS Wally Kurth Delivers ‘The Power Performance of the Week’

Mark our words! Next year, Days of our Lives Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis) will once again be nominated for a Daytime Emmy for this week’s emotional and deeply-touching work on key episodes of the NBC daytime drama series.

As viewers saw, this was to be the happy nuptials of Justin and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), who found love again after losing the previous loves of their lives.  They were dear friends to begin with, who through a set of horrific circumstances, found comfort with one another which eventually turned to love.

Photo: JPi

Problem was; Justin overheard Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) before the ceremony discussing Steve’s (Stephen Nichols) feelings for Kayla and that he wants her back; something Kayla is unaware of.  So what will he do?  The noble thing and tell her the truth, or keep it to himself and marry her anyway?

As the Intel of what he learned weighed heavier and heavier on Justin, in the most dramatic of moments (when he was to say his “I do’s”), Justin stopped the ceremony and bared all to Kayla: that Steve wants her back and how Steve saw him propose to her and that is why he backed off.  Armed with the knowledge and that her friends and family kept it from her, Kayla does not know what to do.  Justin helps made it easy and clear for her when he questions her … if they would be standing here getting married, if Steve had told her his true feelings before Justin proposed to her?

Justin goes on to say to Kayla that maybe she has been avoiding her true feelings for Steve, because she did not want to hurt him.  Then Justin tells Kayla that he visited his late wife Adrienne’s (Judi Evans) grave, and told her that if things were different, and if she was alive they would still be married, and Kayla would be their dear, dear friend.

Photo: JPI

With seeing the look on Kayla’s eyes, Justin knows she loves Steve.  Heartbroken, but caught in an untenable situation, Justin tells Kayla he is happy for her.  Kayla wraps her arms around Justin as they both cry.  Kayla says she never wanted to hurt him, and when Wally as Justin says, “I know, honey,” it was one of the most honest and ten-hankie moments of the entire scenario.   Justin kisses her, tells the guests there will be no wedding today, and exits the Kiriakis mansion.

The emotional drama continues in the aftermath as Justin is at Kayla’s apartment boxing up all of his belongings and tears up recalling their nights together listening to jazz and cooking dinner.  Sonny (Freddie Smith) finds his dad, and tells him he did the noble thing and that time will heal all wounds, but after Sonny leaves, Justin breaks down a bit further before exiting Kayla’s for good.

And if that was not enough, Justin goes back to Adrienne’s gravesite to update her on the wedding that did not happen.   He talks to her that he understands Kayla and Steve’s deep and enduring love, which was just like theirs was.  Next, Justin thinks he is seeing Adrienne, when none other than Bonnie Lockhart (Judi Evans) reveals she is back in Salem – talk about kicking a guy when he is down!

Throughout this entire saga, moment to moment, Kurth delivered raw, genuine, adult emotions, in a very complex adult story and relationship.   In fact, the cast and crew thought so, too!  When Wally as Justin told Kayla that he can’t marry her and the speech that followed and his exit from the mansion that followed, all those on set applauded for him.  His work was that moving.   Wally was ably assisted throughout by the outstanding work of Mary Beth Evans in these scenes.

2020, while a difficult year for everyone thus far, has been a particular great year for Kurth on Days; as over the last six months he has really had a chance to shine in this story.  So for all of these reasons and more, Michael Fairman TV gives the “Power Performance of the Week” kudos to Wally Kurth.

Did you love Wally’s performance this week on Days? Did you reach for the hankies? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

DAYS Wally Kurth, Mary Beth Evans & Chandler Massey Take You Behind the Scenes of Kayla and Justin’s Wedding

On Wednesday’s heartbreaking episode of Days of our Lives, viewers saw just how the nuptials of Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Justin (Wally Kurth) eventually wound up!

Justin told Kayla that Steve (Stephen Nichols) still loves her, which put a halt to the proceedings and ended the romantic relationship between the two dear friends, who found love with one another following Adrienne’s (Judi Evans) death, and Kayla believing Steve did not want her back.

Now, The DOOL app has posted a rare behind the scenes view of the making of the wedding – with moments from the key scenes, rehearsals and interviews with the cast involved.

Chandler Massey (Will) weighs-in on Will’s debut as a wedding officiant and how that went south, while Mary Beth Evans and Wally Kurth shared why they loved this storyline so much.

Wally expresses how the last six months have been some of the best storylines of his soap career, while Mary Beth says that Justin and Kayla’s relationship was so adult and that in real life, both actors have known about people who fall in love with their dear friend, after losing their significant other whether it be by divorce, or death, or whatever the circumstance.

If you don’t already have the DOOL app on your mobile device to watch the segment, you can get more info to download here.

We will have more to say on the memorable performances at Michael Fairman TV later in the week.

So, what did you think of Kayla and Justin’s wedding and the fallout? Comment below.
