Days Of Our Lives
RATINGS: General Hospital Shows Gains In Total Viewers and Women 18-49 Demo!

Courtesy/ABC
The ratings are out for the week of August 11th to August 15th, and it was ABC’s General Hospital who had a solid week showing gains in the all important total viewers numbers. GH while remaining in third place among the four soaps, added +75,000 to its tally, bringing its total to 2,879,000.
The only other soap to shows gains was NBC’s Days of our Lives which added +59,000 and came in with a weekly total of 2,463,000. General Hospital also was up in the key women’s 18-49 demo adding +17,000, and being only one of two soaps in that demographic to be on the plus side (Y&R being the other with +7,000)! GH continues to be giving Y&R a run for the money, inching up and not too far away from the number one position.
DAYS saw gains in the women’s 18-34 demo, being the only soap in that demographic to add viewers. And all four network soaps saw gains in the 25-54 demo category. CBS soaps; The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful continue to be at #1 and #2 positions in total viewers despite a week of losing viewers. So what do you think about the ratings performance this week of General Hospital and Days of our Lives? Where they the best soaps on the air for the ratings week in question? What story did you enjoy? Share your thoughts below!
Considering I get excited every day to watch GH I am not surprised. Best show on tv.
The headline indicates this is good news but GH remains in third place. There are only four soaps on the air now.
This is actually rather depressing news.
Not when you consider their numbers are included with the fact that they are broadcasted in Europe.
Harry….I’m responding to your post on another thread regarding MF notices. Generally speaking, I get mine in my main inbox…maybe your spam filter is preventing you from receiving them? Just a thought….However, there is something peculiar about the whole process…I have gotten replies that never made it to post, and I am thinking that they had been moderated out of existence for online perusal, but still sent to me, which is great. I like to reply to any comment I receive as long as they are decent and respectful, but the problem is that the replies you receive personally are blind and you cannot ascertain the identity author unless they are also posted online. (Sometimes you can guess according to personal writing style or subject matter, but one still likes to be sure.) Conversely, there have been numerous occasions when something I wrote was not deemed suitable (I guess…) for posting, but I had assumed(?) that at least the remarks ended up in the inbox of the intended recipient….now I am not so certain! I understand that not everything we write will pass muster to make it online, but I do wish there were a way to insure that the person for whom the response was intended does indeed receive it, and with proper identification of the sender. (Just a bit of nitpicking of the system….) I also suppose a lot of these oversights could simply be attributed to technical issues. At any rate, just so you know, I often send little replies to you….I ever so enjoy your wit and cultural references, thus, I like to show my appreciation! (It makes me sad to think that you never receive them!) Oh, and speaking of that subject, your recent quip regarding young Spencer’s whereabouts during his “m.i.a.” storyline was classic….my compliments!
Meant “identity of the author”…..my bad!
I sometimes do see your positive responses, Shay. But it’s only because I went back to look. Comments like yours are the ones I want to see! I did see your response to my comment pertaining to the whereabouts of Spencer (answer–in that great abyss called Alexis’s cleavage). I responded in kind but the post did not appear.
However, my missing comments is not always a bad thing. Inherently, I am a bit of a coward. Sometimes I am that person who throws a rock and then runs away.
And speaking of rocks, cracks and the abyss, this morning’s earthquake made me feel as nauseated as I feel when watching Alexis and Julian make out.
Oh, dear….I hope you are feeing better, Harry!!! I saw the news coverage of the earthquake….quite a fright you had there! Do take care!!!! Having said that, I’m firmly convinced that the “Mystery of the Lost Replies” (Sounds like a Nancy Drew book title…..) can be attributed to the MF moderators having to work overtime to deal with all of our snarky bon mots and snappy rejoinders, hence, I’m not surprised that a fair amount of our comments go m.i.a. (aka, unposted/unsent)….Oh well, it’s certainly NOT for our lack of trying!!!! (Let battle continue…..) Lastly, on the subject of our favorite exhibitionist, Alexis, perhaps we should give that poor insatiable woman a break….after all, she does now have to replenish her entire supply of push-up bras and age-inappropriate, immodestly revealing “top-wear” since her previous collection was completely blown to smithereens.
Young Bold and Days are fabulous but GH is such a mess I fast forward thru it. The last episode I sat thru was the “epic” one when the gay three way was gonna happen. It was ok but the only fun part was Piffy and Milo making googly eyes at each other. The rest was just “ehh?”
I’m surprised DAYS did not reach 3,000,000 viewers!!!
Maybe if Bo would return…that could help get an increase…but then im still waiting for Don Craig to return from the mailbox and Neil to return from checking with his patients(doctors sure keep long hours…lol…both disapearing over 20 years ago…must be visiting other missing Salemites like the long forgoten Tommy Horton and several others plus maybe even Justin…maybe Bo and co. are lost in Melaswen or the Horton attic…wish Jen would go there?…lol
Days is The Best!!
That was the week of Maxie’s wedding and no follow up last week. Let’s Watch the following week’s ratings…
Ratings are somewhat good news…better if they continously climb…villians returning to GH in the fall…will it help or hurt…i still think why not add some heroes too to balance it all out…why not go all the way with the corny and campy stuff and add Batman and Robin from the 60s cult classic…Nik would be a great Batman with his huge mansion and because he does have a butler named Alfred…lol…but i suggest Nathan in the role since the actor and Adam West who played Batman are both wooden performers…lol…however, Nathan seems a little better…lol…Dante can play Robin, the Boy Wonder because i ‘wonder’ if he will ever solve a case…lol…with Nancy ‘Monotone’ Drew played by Sam helping with the latest mystery…lol…togehter they will battle the evil Mr.Freeze played by Victor Cassidine and prevent him from defrosting his Frozen Family, Franco as the Joker who has been a joke since arriving in PC, Levi as The Riddler who i hope they’ll get Rid of, Luke as Two Face(or is he from Dick Tracy…who cares soaps always use plots from other shows…lol) and Nina as Catwoman prowling around on all twos ready to pounce on her next victim with her perrrrrfect sidekick Rosa-‘Hello Pussy’-lee…MeeeOuch!…LOL!!!
This could increase ratings…suprised days wasnt a bit higher…still good news for the soap world! Now lets see this continue and then it’ll be something to report about!!!
Come on GH fans…Lets break 3 million.
the GH Fans are watching it already.. You need to motivate others to watch a good soap just as GH… Def the Best soap out there by FARRRRRRRRRRR…………………
Not going to happen, Brian. Too many disgruntled GH fans tuning out.
And hearing that there is only going to be a greater influx of villains is really a turn off for me. Wow, Port Charles really needs to secure the borders.
If there are too many villains it follows you have no one for whom to root and intriguing storylines will not follow.
Harry.
the bored Y&R fans who dropped out of Y&R are coming to GH..
And– GH, a couple of times, did top out at 3 million,,
(wait for winter.. it’s gonna roll !
Root for the bad guys, Harry.. !! they will never bore you 🙂
Harry-I think that’s correct about disgruntled fans tuning out. GH is pretty stagnant and their ceiling seems to be just under 3 million on average. Hitting 3 million or a little above on a day or two doesn’t count for anything, it’s about averages, that’s how advertising is priced and sold.
I think GH gains viewers with some of the stunts and castings. like Stafford, but they lose viewers by throwing vets in the back, so the gains are offset and the numbers never really go anywhere. How many more fans can you bring with additional castings and how many fans do you lose with those new actors?
The largest pool of potential GH viewers are long time viewers, not people who have never watched and all of a sudden are going to think GH is cool. And they are not all senior citizens who you think are not in a desired demo either.
There are plenty of people in the higher range of 18-49 who tuned out years ago and who would come back if GH was back, if characters they new were on more prominently, if core families were put front and center. Plenty of people in the 35-45 age range who watched in the 90’s and 2000’s, even eighties, who would come back. They did with the initial vet returns and 50th, but left when it was just a bait and switch. That is the group that GH should have focused on and tried to grow with. That would have been the obvious and intelligent play, knowing who your consumers are. It still makes no sense that Cartini couldn’t figure a way to really resurrect GH and still put their ego, I mean stamp, on it, without decimating it’s history and bringing in so many new characters.
And Harry, I’m with you regarding the influx of more villains. It just means more camp, more nonsense and more stunts.
Miss Su00, in the future when I wince in disgust at watching what has become of my once favorite daytime serial, I shall take solace in the fact that you are deriving some kind of weird and inexplicable joy from it. I mean it–I am glad GH makes you feel happy.
I still maintain that with the villains outnumbering the heroes, that we are left with no one to root for. I never liked it when The Batman and Robin TV show had The Joker, The Riddler, The Penguin and Catwoman on the same show. Yes, this TV show from the late 60’s was supposed to be high camp and so the over population of campy, over-the-top villains not only produced a non character based storyline, it deviated from the interesting villains who were overshadowed by the other villians, thus losing their mysterious sense of intrigue. The same thing is happening on GH, and I must add here that GH is not supposed to be a pure camp adaption of a comic book series.
As it stands I am not rooting for ANYONE because I don’t like ANYONE on GH anymore. Therefore, my interest has not only waned, it is has rusted and as Neil Young once sang,”It’s better to burn out, than it is to rust. Hey, hey, my, my. Rock and Roll (soaps) will (should) never die.”
And GH50? I thank Hades for your all too rare occasional appearances which inject a much needed dose of rationality into our perspectives. As someone who has always been mathematically challenged, I may not always get your mathematical applications when it comes to breaking down the ratings, but I do understand and appreciate the premise behind the equations. So thank you.
I really enjoyed this week’s scenes with Britt and Nicholas.
Love my “GH” 🙂
Good news for Days, but I’m concerned where they’ll go after November. I don’t like EJami (though I love Sami separately and like EJ separately) and I love Kristen. But they’ve built the story around them for so long that I think they’re going to be grasping for story next year. And Nick/Gabi are gone (though that was in May).
I wish they’d bring back Shawn D, Belle, Claire, JT, Chloe, and Philip. They could do a lot with them.
Alison Sweeney directed GH…should help their ratings
Steven Spielberg could direct GH and I wouldnt know the difference!
I think it’s wonderful GH’s rating’s are up no matter what week it’s for I look forward to watching GH every week. I just can’t understand how Day’s ratings improved too when most people deep down know Day’s should have been cancelled when the other soap’s were being cancelled a few years ago maybe if it had been OLTL would still be on the air.
Be careful what you wish for!
Gh is so bad deep down it should be cancelled now
I don’t want ANY soap to be cancelled. It would likely mean the end of all soaps, and I love them.
Replace Carlivati before deciding to cancel.
ahah self punishment watching a soap;
I seen it all now; soap opera masochist’s..
(A study should be done on soap fans who hate their soap and inflict pain on themselves by watching it; masochist’s )
I do use to like Y&R and now its horrible, but I only watch every other day for about 10 mins an episode if I see something almost entertaining..
GH ROCKS!! .. and puts Y&R to shame 🙂
I wish you happy watching !! 🙂
Love GH been watching since I was a young teenager. Thank you GH
Let’s just support all the soaps. I think if we lose one more soap, we lose them all.
Please encourage, and not discourage.
Agreed ! Its any time one of us post a positive comment… we get slammed.
brain..
All the negative grumpy – – nothing is every right or good people,’
well .. imagine being married to one of the grumpies .. frightening, huh..
I love GH ..
Y&R- I tell it like it is.. It sucks .. no need to need write a ”War and Peace” length complaining post about it (I never read the long ones ) just say it sucks, its horrible boring, and the new Billy is gawd awful terrible.. no whining needed- just get to it lol..
(and kill Robin.. no need to write a whiny grumpy book about it, just kill her..
Now– everybody be nice !!
bow your head;
”thank you for my soaps.. soaps are good soaps make me happy kill everyone I don’t like and write the stories just me , Amen ..
long live GH!!
I agree. And most of these people are GH fans. At least I think so.
well,
Some need the soap to be written just for them.. the way they want it to be..
and when this or that is not written the way they want it to be, they negatively complain (complainers are unpleasant people, mom said so!) over something they can not change..
(Spock would say; not logical)
Now, if it were written the way I would like it–
A Cannibal Serial Killer would kill and eat New Billy, Robin, Dixie Cooney- no complaining needed to make me happy, just kill ’em and in nasty way, heh
but it won’t happen because others who have really bad taste like those guys..
what can ya do 🙂
LONG LIVE THE GREAT GENERAL HOSPITAL!! / #1 in quality not quantity..
Oh, Su000… You are one long list of contradictions. No matter, though…I loooove reading your posts; very entertaining. Tune in…Y&R is getting better, (NOT)…..except that tptb should get rid of all characters and start fresh…lol.
SuOO, you will be happy to read this spoiler.
Helena Cassadine, while looking for her son Stavros in the family’s deep freezer unexpectedly runs discovers Ted Williams’ head.
Helena discovers a way of transplanting Ted Williams head onto the body of Morgan Corinthos who soon is the recipient of many a baseball scholarship. Unfortunately, the fact that Morgan not only has Ted William’s anger management issues teaming in his thawed out head, he has the same issues coming from that the body of that hot head of a man suffering from small man’s compex, Sonny Corrnthos. It doesn’t go well.
Sorry suOOOO but your evasive way of complaining about complainers as if you are trying not to sound like you’re complaining is still negative complaining(i know because of me daddy tellin’ me so)…lol…Looks like you wont be getting your soaps written and cast the way you want nor will you get your way on this message boards…us unpleasant negative people are here to stay…lol…i do like reading your posts and agree with your serial killer suggestion but i have a better idea: all four soaps join in on a crossover plot involving this serial killer…works for me…lol
Jimh.. how yah doing?
Hey.. I like your idea!! love serial killers ! (especially cannibal ones..
The soaps need serial killers, for sure..
The only thing in GH I would want different is a dead Robin, but I wouldn’t want to see her fans crying so Siberia is a good second….
I am a true GH fan who likes it all!! nothing negative here about GH..
And- Y&R sucks, big time! it is gutted and empty..
and that is not a complaint that is a fact and telling it as it is..
–and my mom said it right out too;
complainers are unpleasant people and nobody wants to hang out with them and listen to their whining.. heh..
dont like someone/character just say so and why you want them eaten by serial killer cannibals, that works .. lol 🙂
tc ..
@su @@ @@….As per usual, your latest series of scintillating, in-depth analyses have left me utterly nonplussed.
The Final Four. Lets watch, criticize, but be grateful they are still on the air. Story lines will come and go, same with characters. My only wish is to have the correct actors play the role. I STILL imagine Billy Miller when I see this dude Burgess read his lines. He is unacceptable as Billy Abbott. There you have it, I’m negative BUT I’m not going top quit watching Y&R AND I will support their advertisers because this soap has been a part of my life for a ZILLION years! Love you Sharon Case!
Yes, Timmm. When you are stranded in bed or on the couch for weeks on end, you will vehemently find yourself thanking the soap gods.
Today’s episode of DAYS was so good!!! Kate M knocked it out of the park when she confronted Will!!! And she continued her rampage when she went and slapped Sami. I love that Abby is fighting mad and fighting back!!!!! The writing was so tight and focused and interwoven and intertwined….it seemed almost like a play!! There was character development FIRST and plot movement second….Ron Carlivati could take some notes!!! I no longer watch GH because of the vile piece of trash it has become so I am very glad that DAYS is firing on all cylinders!!!
The whole hour was entertaining…the way a great soap should be…my favorite episode in weeks!!!
ToDAYS episode will be phenomenal too!
Off topic, as I posted above yesterday, I think-I am hoping that Ava accidently gives Kiki the poisoned chocolate mousse. I can’t stand the character. The actress can’t hold a real, genuine storyline of her own so she is placed in all of these other, random scenes. I can’t take it. I loved how Nina called her “Kooky Kiki” and spoke about how annoying she is; I agree!
The same thought actually crossed my mind, dmr. …not because I don’t like Kiki, she’s okay…take her or leave her… But, as the universe’s retribution for trying to kill Michael.
Days Of Our Lives
DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Marlena Looks Back at 50 Years in Salem

The June 22 episode of Days of Our Lives reminded us all of why Deidre Hall is iconic in the role of Dr. Marlena Evans. Here we are 50 years later, and Marlena is still the heroine of the long-running soap opera, and Deidre remains one of the most most recognizable names in the history of soaps.
To pay tribute, and to look back at the life and times of Marlena, the story starts with Marlena flipping through a photo album of her with John (the late Drake Hogestyn) over the years. As she misses him dearly, she gets a knock on the door and its none other than John’s son, Paul Narita (Christopher Sean).
With Andrew (Colton Little) in Salem working on a case, he sits down with Marlena, who says she can’t believe its been fifty years since she first arrived in Salem! Cue: Deidre’s first scenes on DAYS when she finds Mickey Horton (the late John Clarke) playing chess against himself inside the mental institution she worked.

THE FLASHBACKS OF MARLENA’S LIFE
From there, viewers definitely got the cliff notes version of the history of Marlena and entrenched within them, some of the biggest moments in Deidre’s enduring run.
Paul thinks he is looking at 70s, and early 80s Marlena while going through her scrapbook, but he is actually looking at her twin, Samantha (Andrea Hall). Cue: when Marlena confronted Samantha about impersonating her, and then later getting a call on her radio show from the Salem Strangler (Jack Coleman as Jake Kostichek) who killed Samantha thinking it was Marlena.
In the present, Belle (Martha Madison) has arrived at this time to meet up with Paul, unaware of this trip down memory lane. She wants to go over the findings in the chess board mystery Stefano willed to Marlena and John, in private with him, since Marlena previously said she wanted nothing to do with it.
Back to the history lesson, Marlena speaks highly of Don Craig and even though their marriage didn’t work out, she could find a path forward with the new love her life, Roman Brady. (Wayne Northrop however is never shown, possibly to keep the story focused on John as Roman for confusion sakes?)
Paul sees a photo of a young Carrie (Christie Clark) in the album and Marlena says she was such a godsend after losing her baby. In fact, Marlena says caring for Carrie prepared her for her having and raising her own twins, Eric and Sami. Cue: The twin visiting Marlena in the hospital.
JOHN AND MARLENA’S LOVE CONQUERED ALL
Then, in a way to get through and incorporate the wild storylines only Marlena could have been in, she tells Belle and Paul, she has been through so much in her life, how lucky she was to find John, and some of the most unbelievable experiences no one could imagine. Cue: Marlena possessed by the devil and levitating from the bed. Next, John confronting Marlena being the Salem Stalker, where she admits she killed Alice Horton, pretends she needs help, then pulls a gun on her beloved John!
The comment is made by Paul and Marlena, that she literally has been to hell and back and she could not have survived were it not for her beloved John. Cue the big emotional highpoint clips; The Pier Scene! Marlena steps out of the fog when John sees her from a distance. After believing she was dead for four years, here she was before him in one of the greatest reunions in a soap opera love story in history. What followed were other times of the life of times of Jarlena.

MARLENA’S ‘GIFT’ FROM STEFANO HAS A NEW CLUE
When Marlena makes a brief exit to the other room, Belle fills in Paul on the chess set Stefano left her mother and the photo of the Lire. Paul said he will investigate. Marlena comes back into the room and overhears, and says to promise her if things get dangerous he will back off, she does not want anyone hurt by Stefano’s games.
As the episode comes to a conclusion, it’s just Belle and Marlena going through the photo album giggling about 70s hairstyles and all the memories. Belle speaks on the impact Marlena has had in everyone’s lives, and that she is both the heart of their family and the heart of Salem.
An end card comes up acknowledging Deidre Hall’s 50th anniversary as Marlena, and we fade to black.
So, what did you think of Marlena’s walk down memory lane? Were you happy to see the flashback clips utilized throughout? Were you touched by the scenes and the performance of Deidre Hall? Let us know what you thought of Deidre’s 50th anniversary episode via the comment section below.
Days Of Our Lives
Deidre Hall Marks 50 Years as ‘Days of Our Lives’ Dr. Marlena Evans

If you have ever tuned-in to the soap opera genre over the last 50 years, and witnessed some of the greatest romances, drama, classic and outlandish storylines of all-time, you would have seen Deidre Hall smack dab in the middle of it as longtime Salem heroine, Dr. Marlena Evans.
It was 50 years on this date, June 21, 1976 that Hall first appeared on DAYS on NBC which was its home for 57 years before it moved to its current streaming platform on Peacock in September of 2022.
In Hall’s first episode she was introduced as a psychiatrist treating Mickey Horton (John Clarke) at Bayview Sanitarium after he suffered a complete mental breakdown. Mickey learned that his brother Bill Horton (Edward Mallory) was the biological son of Mike Horton (Wesley Eure) with his wife Laura (Susan Flannery) and that he had been lied to for years and years. From that moment on, the rest is television and soap opera history. Days of Our Lives put Hall front and center.

Photo: NBC
There were so many heartbreaking and shocking story twists involving the beloved Marlena. One of the first was the historic crib death of baby DJ (Don Jr.) in 1980, Marlena’s infant son with Don Craig (Jed Allan). The story had never been told on daytime television and Hall’s performances received accolades from TV critics to fans when Deidre received thousands of letters from grieving mothers who had gone through the same thing in their own lives.
DAYS also brought Deidre’s twin sister, Andrea Hall Lovell to the show as her on-screen sister Samantha, who had a grudge and even locked Marlena up in a sanitarium and took her place! Fast-forward and in 1982, DAYS launched the Salem Strangler story where everyone believed Marlena was his next victim, only it turned out to be Samatha. Jake Kositchek (played by Jack Coleman) was revealed to be the actual serial killer.
Later, Deidre would assume the role of Marlena’s look-alike, Hattie Adams in 2004, once played by her sister, Andrea. Over the years, Hattie has come back to Salem and caused trouble giving Hall a chance to play a different type of character, then the always upstanding Marlena.

THE LOVES OF MARLENA
Deidre Hall struck gold with all her leading men: from the late Jed Allan, to Wayne Northrop as Roman Brady, and of course, her enduring love story with the late John Black played by the iconic Drake Hogestyn. In fact, Marlena’s 1986 wedding to John (who was believed to be Roman at the time) remains a favorite of fans to this day.
TOP MARLENA STORYLINES OF ALL-TIME
While the list is long, here are several that were some of the memorable during Deidre’s five decades in Salem!
The Possession (1994- 1995)
Considered one of the most ambiguous, outlandish and unforgettable story arcs in soap opera history, then Days of Our Lives head writer, James Reilly went there! Marlena was possessed by the devil! That included; the demonic eyes, hissing at father John (Black) the priest, morphing into creatures, and the classic levitating in her bed! It became a cultural phenomenon and cemented Deidre Hall’s status as a daytime television legend. Just ask Ryan Gosling!

Photo:JPI
The Affair with John Black (1993)
John and Marlena’s forbidden love could not be denied and they had passionate affair, while she was still married to the real Roman. Problem was her daughter, Sami (Alison Sweeney) caught her mother having sex with John on a desk that changed Sami forever.
The Salem Stalker Mystery (2003-2004)
In a shocker, Marlena was revealed to be a serial killer who bumped off several Salem favorites residents who were all alive on the island of Melaswen (spelled “New Salem” backward). Turns out, she was manipulated and gaslighted by Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) to do the “killings” and had no memory of her actions.
The Pier Scene (1991)
This remains Michael Fairman TV’s all-time favorite Deidre Hall moment, which featured some of the best acting in the storied careers of both Hall and Drake Hogestyn.
In the story, a presumed-dead Marlena returns after four years. One foggy night on the pier, John is alone, and Marlena steps out of the fog to reveal herself, and is reunited with the love of her life. You can watch it any year, any decade, and in any moment, and it will have you reaching for the hankies again and again. (best music score fo a soap scene of all-time too!)

Photo: NBC
Kristen’s Secret Room Reveal (1997)
Marlena was caught in Kristen Blake’s (Eileen Davidson) elaborate web of lies, when she was held hostage in a secret wine cellar/room until John managed to track her down, leading to an iconic on-screen reunion. The classic catfight between Hall and Eileen Davidson was one for the ages.
It should be noted that Maison Blanche, Queen of the Night, Possession, Aremid and Lady in a Cage were all a part of classic DAYS storyline and all featured Hall at the epicenter of it from 1993-1996.
THE RECENT YEARS OF MARLENA
In recent years, DAYS brought back the possession 2.0 storyline under then head writer Ron Carlivati in 2021 where the devil leapt back in Marlena after taking advantage of a frail Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes)
In 2025, viewers watched the end of the love story of John and Marlena, as John succumbed to injuries sustained in an explosion saving a vial of medication needed to bring Bo (Peter Reckell) back to life. Marlena has been a widow on-screen since June of 2025 as Hall as portrayed the good doctor struggling with her grief and to move on with her life since his death.

Photo: JPI
One story that never goes away is Stefano DiMera’s (the late Joe Mascolo) obsession with Marlena, his “Queen of the Night.” Even in death, Stefano is toying with her from the great beyond with the mysterious chess set and the missing “pawn,” that he had gifted John and Marlena in his will. The mystery is currently unfolding on all-new episodes of Days of Our Lives.
Tune-in to Days of our Lives on the Monday, June 22 episode as Marlena looks back at her 50 years in Salem.
Share your congratulations to Deidre Hall for this incredible 50-year milestone as Dr. Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives in the comment section. Then let us know, what is your all-time favorite storyline or moment in the life of Marlena over the past 5 decades? And, just for kicks, and to celebrate this amazing milestone, here is Marlena levitating below circa Christmas Eve 1994.

Al Calderon Reflects on ‘Major Chapters’ Coming to an End on ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Brilliant Minds’

It’s been a bittersweet time for Al Calderon. The talented actor/singer/songwriter has watched from his vantage point to roles he loved so much come to their conclusion for different reasons.
In a heartfelt message posted to his Instagram story on Saturday, Calderon took a moment to share how grateful he was for the opportunity to play Javi Hernandez on Days of Our Lives, and nurse Nico Silva this year on NBC’s second season of Brilliant Minds. Currently, Brilliant Minds has two more episodes that will air on June 24 and the series finale on July 1.
Calderon expressed, “As I sit here reflecting on this lovely Saturday afternoon over the last two years of my life, I have two major chapters closing that have been part of my life every day for the last two years. We have Brilliant Minds. Our last episodes are wrapping up, and then my last scenes aired yesterday as me as Javi on Days of Our Lives.

Photo: JPI
“I’m just unbelievably grateful for the chance and the opportunity to be a part of something so much larger than me,” continued Al. “I (will) love Days of Our Lives forever, my family. Thank you for supporting me and supporting my decision to take the leap of faith and believe in myself and, and tell other stories. You know, it’s never goodbye. It’s always ‘see you later’ to me and just leaving with love and leading with love.”
Al concluded with a special mention to some very important people, the fans: “Thank you to the fans and the support from everyone, the lovely messages. So this next chapter, hopefully it’s not a dragon, hopefully it’s a gold coin.”

Photo: NBC
Calderon’s journey on-screen on Days of Our Lives began in October of 2024 and concluded this month. In one of his last appearances Javi was asking a favor from Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) before bumping into his ex, Leo (Greg Rikaart). In story, Javi has a new romance with Gus (Michael Ocampo), while fighting his feelings for Leo. The role of Javi will be played starting on June 30 by Jacob Martinez who takes over the role.
NBC decided to cancel the Brilliant Minds, after it split up the airing of its second season which began in the fall of September of 2025 and the back-half started airing after a long break this past May. Calderon joined the medical drama staring Zachary Quinto for the new season, which sadly was its last.
So, will you miss Al on Days of Our Lives and Brilliant Minds as his time on-screen has come to an end? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
