After a dismal ratings week previously, the week of March 3rd through March 7th showed that all four network soaps rebounded and gained in their total viewers numbers with The Young and the Restless adding the most viewers for the week with a +188,000  bringing their weekly total to 5,027,000!

Next, it was General Hospital, who this week saw the final airshows of Kimberly McCullough’s return as Robin, gained the ABC soap +94,000 viewers, bringing them to 2,972,000, and The Bold and the Beautiful added +94,000 total viewers with their total at 3,679,000.

Finally, Days of our Lives added +31,0000 totaling 2,717,000 for the week.  And while those increases for all four show are not staggering, they are not in the negative.  To view the entire ratings picture courtesy of SON click here!

On DOOL, John Black’s return has made the show appointment TV for me. Knowing/ hoping that there’s a Jarlena reunion in the future makes me tune in. I’m also enjoying the nice, slow pace of Hope and Aiden. He’s a newbie who is not being shoved in my face all the time. It’s a smart move to write him as nothing like Bo and not have him be related to Stefano (so far). Using Hope’s and Aiden’s kids as a way for the parents to meet is natural and original for DOOL.

Days is the best serial right now…i predicted the Hope and Aiden coupling and i knew one of the newbies would be evil…but i thought Liam would somehow be tied to Jordans mysterious past…like her abusive ex but i dont think that’ll happen now…i now think Jordan and Ben are in some protective witness program and this is why they change identities…still hoping Jordan and Ben are Eve’s children…maybe Eve was once involed with Liam and is coming to Salem to warn Jordan and Ben who are fleeing from him anyway?

Agree! DAYS is best right now… welcome back!

Yes!!!

Well I had it! Im sick of Victor and sick of Cassie and this entire mess with Billy on Y&R . Bring back the classic vets and not Victor Im so finished with him and what he does

I Agree!

SUMMER BETTER BE JACKS KID NOT NICKS

Its good news for all soaps but the neilson system is outdated and discriminates against men and older viewers. Im certain these ratings would be much higher with a new ratings system that includes men and people of all ages and not just women of certain ages…we all buy things advertised on these shows!!!

GH today with Donna Mills first appearance as Ninas momma was its best in weeks…looks like Nathan is tied to Maddie…her son? her grandson? HER LOVER!!! Maybe they are working together to get Ninas money? They knocked off Ninas father too!!! OK, its not Couger Town but i do hope Nathan is Silas’s and Nina’s son like someone else said…and is this Jordan T.J.’s mommy???

Maybe Donna Mills character is Anthony Zaccharas sister and she was also Ric Lansings real mother and this is why she is funding the Jeromes to take Sonny down???

THEY NEED TO FIRE DEIDRE HALL AGAIN. HER ACTING REALLY REALLY SUCKS, RECAST HER WITH CONSTANCE TOWERS EX HELENA GH. ALSO KASSIE DEPAIVA, WILL BE GREAT AS EVE DONOVAN.

Crack is whack.

All the shows are good except for gh which is a confused mess.

I couldn’t disagree more, I’m loving GH right now. So many exciting storylines going on.

I, too, disagree. What do you mean by confused mess?

The “Is Abby pregnant”? storyline is spectacular!!!
Eric and Nicole are pulse pounding!!!
Hope and Aiden are great!!!
The weddings should be fun!!!
Welcome back John!!!
I like JJ falling for Paige!!!
Will Liam kill Jennifer?!?!?!
Jordan is the calm before the storm!!!

Days of our Lives is the time of OUR lives!!!

Abs dream… “wed” ??? when she was at a “DiMera doctor”

LOL… when he told EJ

doctor: as she’s coming too… “waking” up….

and she “didn’t” know… what had happened….

as she last heard… “she’s not now…” as in not preggers…

blew me away – I believed it

that was good drama

I still cannot believe how good DAYS is… going on two years strong… PLUS

LOVE DOOL

Yes, I fell for that too!!! DAYS knows how to be chilling and funny at the same time!!! From the DAYSaster to now, DAYS is delectable!!! In your words, Patrick, DAYS deserves…repeat emmy win!!! OUR days…OUR lives…OUR win!!! Days of OUR Lives.

DAYS turns 49 on the 8th of November. NBC should change their logo to the hourglass at the beginning of DAYS 50th year!!! The peacock can dance in the sand!!!

For the most part, all the storylines are working for me. Its the little details that get missed that bother me and mostly because they bother my husband, who watches the show from behind hos iphone but criticizes. I actually tweeted Rob C about it and he tweeted me back but it really was a lame response lol. I am talking about the AJ shooting. My husband keeps saying all they need to do is pull up the security footage from Ava’s building and check who came and went and what time. I agree but I also know its a soap. Ron tweeted me back saying “Ava would have paid soneone off to take out the security cam in her building a long time ago because she is in the mob.” This is a good “cover” but I’d have been happier if Ron thought about that detail and wrote it in. It seems to me that if the audience can see these details, then the writers should be able to predict and handle them before the shows are written and puy in a sentence that references it. Have Dante or Anna say “oddly enough, there id no security footage in this building” or have Sonny say “i got Max to retrieve the security footage ” or anything like that.
Another thing. I read the TV Guide interview with Ron but honestly, once I saw that Robin was in a NYC lab, I was annoyed with how she was written out. I love KM and am a long time GH watcher but I must admit that I am ready for Robin to either be written off the show completely or for a recast. Its all about Emma for me. I can handle Luke leaving all the time because his storyline doesn’t involve him being a father to little children but for a show who’s main demographic is women (and many who either have or have had young kids) the fact thst she left her daughter so quickly aftet coming back from the dead, and promsing Emma she’d never leave again, doesn’t sit well for most. I don’t agree with what Ron said. He said he had to write it this way so Patrick can move forward and not be stagnant but I feel thst with the knowledge that Robin is alive somewhere and the fact that he chose her over Sabrina, the Scrubs fans will not be ready to move on and the character of Patrick can not suddenly act single. They didn’t break up. She just left and they keep saying they are soulmates and meant to be together. That is angst for Patrick but not moving on.
Haha I suppose my response shows how involved O amagain. A whole lot better than the days when I FF through 45 mins of the show.

The number of watchers is nit as important as ”who” is watching.

advertisers care more about demographics. If they want to reach young adults, they don’t care that your soap is number one with people 55 and older. Not what they want.
A Nielsen report is divided into a long list of age groups. While it may be tiresome to compare the numbers between women ages 18-34 versus men ages 25-54, these are the numbers that matter most to advertisers.
Nielsen can’t monitor every home in a city, much less the entire country, so it chooses a small number of people to represent the nation. 15 people watch a show they turn it to 15,000.
So it is good thing when a Nielsen box is in a home of younger people who watch soaps.
But if 4 people live in the house and all watch only one is counted.

I do not understand why ratings are so important to soap fans why can;t they just watch and enjoy and let the number to the networks who see the numbers different than us .. They calculate so much more from time to place etc etc to see what they want for their numbers.

You are right about some especially demos but if 4 people are in a home doing neilsons all 4 is registered and participate in the research not just 1…yes, 18 to 49 is still the most important age group but they still keep record of all in that house of whoever is watching what…thats how they learn what childrens shows kids are watching and how they knew 50% of Edge Of Nights viewers were men, and how many over 50 are watching certain shows…i was part of the neilsons when there were 4 in my house and all were included…Now i dont mind advertisers prefer 18 to 49 and i am grateful that the soaps are pulling in a young audience but when the ratings come up id like to see men included too even if it is just 18 to 49 and im also curious about the 50 plus who are watching as well because i believe the numbers are really higher and would like to see what those numbers are…advertisers would still be getting that age demo they want regardless if the over 50 were also included!!!

Total viewers, older viewers are important. All this talk about demos is great and makes people sound like they know something but there is a larger picture that is important. GH for example reaches approx 250,000 women 18-34 and about 700,000 women 18-49. Advertising is sold on a cost per thousand basis. If you only sold to advertisers targeting those demos, about 700,000 people, you could not generate enough ad dollars to sustain the show. The bulk of the advertising revenue is generated by the advertisers paying to reach the other 2 million viewers. The younger demos are important because they are additive and expand the advertiser pool, but without the 50+ advertisers a daytime show can’t exist.

If GH had the additional 3 million viewers 50+, that Y&R has, it would be much more profitable. GH has more viewers w18-34 than Y&R, but it’s only about 50,000 eyeballs. How much money can you charge to reach 50,000 more people? There isn’t that much of a difference in the w18-49 numbers between GH and Y&R. But Y&R generates a lot more money in ad revenue because of the extra 2 million plus viewers, mostly older viewers, that they reach.

The only way to really grow ratings and increase ad revenue is by attracting more older viewers. They are the majority of the people home during the day. The potential 18-49 daytime universe is much smaller and could not sustain a daytime soap. Y&R kicks butt.

Well, I know they didn’t gain an increase by me, I’ve been too busy for over a month and am only able to watch via YouTube for GH (which has sucked since Robin left) and Days. Screw Y&R! I don’t care about the characters over there anymore. Spring Break and vacation time helped these increases, they’ll fall again after March is over.

Of course the soaps are doing well, there are only FOUR of them left and what else do “soap” fans have to watch? I gave up praying and hoping for ALL MY CHILDREN to come back, and now I watch Days of Our Lives which is – well, it’s all right, a tad predictable (Like Abby possibly being pregnant) but it’s well acted. The fact that three actors from AMC are on Days of Our Lives helps me get through it. I know that sounds absurd and I don’t mean to offend long-time viewers of Days. I enjoy watching it, just find it a bit bland at times….and a little draggy sometimes….I mean how much longer are Nicole and Eric going to give each other these cow eye glances and how much longer is Nicole going to regret shredding those documents that might prove him to be innocent – it’s like, geez get on with it already LoL – but the actors are all proficient and the characters are likeable in Salem.

I turned off Y&R on my set and DVR for the whole month, so don’t blame me for JFP and CBS/SONY not bringing Billy Miller Back and ruining our show! Shame on the rest of you for letting her laugh at the fans and arrogantly think she can destroy the show and the sheep will keep watching.

5 million is a LOT of sheep.

Grazing on YR! Congrats CBS soaps!!!

YawneR puts the viewers to sleep before they can change the channel.

Zzzzz….

Sorry, your comment made me Yawn.

If Y&R doesn’t do it for you of course you should stop watching, reading updates and no more tweets! Give it a break,, If I stop watching I”ll stop everything.. of course the last 3 producers/ writers have ruined Y&R, don’t know if it will ever come back, soaps will not be around many more yrs.. For now I will continue to watch, word being “for now”

I have only been watching GH once a week. They have so many different story lines being juggled that it moves at a very slow pace. It’s too frustrating to watch. With all of the stories, there is NOT 1 love story happening. It’s “love in the afternoon” not constant turmoil !!!!!!!!!

I am a great Y&R fan, but do watch B&B fairly often. I would probably watch it more often if Wyatt wasn’t on. I usually do something else while he is on. His acting turns me off, & his Mother is beginning to annoy me too. Am enjoying Y&R a lot right now. Hoping for a real reunion for Nick & Sharon. Victor is an annoyance too. He needs to lose sometimes.

One word: Jarlena. #DropsTheMic

Summer fits better with Nick, that being said I hope she is Jack’s kid! Jack doesn’t need to lose again!.. I heard MS is coming back as Phyllis?? Anybody know?? I would hope for a recast not a fan fav. of MS…+ MS said she was not coming back, if she does, jobs must be hard to get and the dollars bring them back every time.. also way too many actors without jobs!!

3RD GENERATION Y&R FAN… Runs in the family lol. Being a faithful fan, for me, has only become painfully hard these last few months. Screw JFP… All this soap needs to do is stick with the wow factor characters, bring in decent younger talent, amp up the storylines and get rid of victor. Plzzz get it together!!! Let’s go ynr! #FOREVER-mrs.c,phyllis,billy,ADAM,chloe 🙁 :@

On GH, I would love if Ric turned out to be working with a very much alive Claudia Zacchara, since his father, Trevor Lansing, was secretly running the Zacchara mob for years. Then, Madeline would turn out to be Claudia’s mother, Anthony’s ex-wife, and they’d all be working together.

I’d really like it if Madeline turns out to be Victor Cassadine’s current/ex-wife, and he would be Nina’s father. That would make sense, as Nina was being kept in the same facility where Victor brought Robin.

I also think Nathan is Madeline’s son, so Nina’s brother, and Vinessa Antoine’s character will turn out to be T.J.’s mother.

Loving B&B! The show is a fun, beautifully produced guilty pleasure. I don’t miss an episode. If I forget to DVR, I watch online. B&B reminds me of early Loving but a bit more updated. Glad all the soaps are doing well.

Hope Phyllis and her portrayer Michelle do not come back. Don’t miss either of them.
