On The Young and the Restless, fans were in for shock recently, when it was revealed that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) was paying off a Cassie lookalike (Camryn Grimes) to gaslight Sharon (Sharon Case) to find out the secret she is harboring.  This is all being maneuvered by good ole’ Vic under the guise of keeping Sharon, a woman he admits he despises, away from his son, Nick (Joshua Morrow)!  And wait till Victor learns that secret!

This shocker came about because bipolar Sharon all along has believed she has been talking to her dead daughter, AKA “Cassie’s ghost”, when in actuality the ghost turns out to be real, only Sharon doesn’t know it!  So just who is this Cassie doppelganger?  Y&R fans on social media believe that one theory is that perhaps Sharon had twins (one she never knew about!), which would explain the uncanny resemblance of the two characters.  Or, is that even what is really going on here?

On-Air On-Soaps caught up with Camryn Grimes (“Faux Cassie”) recently to talk about this story surprise … which came as quite the surprise to even her!  Here is what this all-time Genoa City favorite had to say about her top secret return to the number one daytime drama!

What happened when you found out you were not playing “Ghost Cassie” but a “Faux Cassie” which was a new character?  Did you know from the start that is the road you would be traveling, when you made your return to Y&R this time?

CAMRYN: I did not know that all along.  It originally started as four to six episodes and it elongated from there.  I did not know what the plans were.  I just thought that Sharon was going through an episode of seeing Cassie, and that was it.  It only really started to develop back in October, but at that point I knew something might be happening, and they wanted to keep me around for bigger story.  I waited, and I waited, and I waited, (laughs) until probably not long before everybody knew.  That is when I found out what this was all going to be, and I am still learning new things about who the character is.  So, it’s very much a reveal for me as it is for the audience.

Do you know who your mystery character is yet?

CAMRYN: I do yeah, and I think I am one of the only ones at The Young and the Restless that I think does!

I don’t think any scene in Y&R history gets more play than Cassie’s deathbed scene.  Every Daytime Emmy telecast that I have been a segment producer on, or as a plot device, or as part of a most memorable or retrospective moments clip package, it is one of the most dramatic story points ever in soaps.  Do you ever think about how that still resonates, and how you are the gal the epicenter of it?

CAMRYN: I think about that all the time.  I am incredibly humbled to have been a part of something that has had such a lasting effect in the daytime genre.  Even having Twitter now and seeing the scope of the Y&R fan base and the people who have watched me previously, it’s amazing.  I have actually had people tell me that they have named their kids “Camryn” after me and I am like, “Don’t put that on me. I can’t handle that … that is too much!” (Laughs)  It’s crazy and I am humbled by it.

How is working with Eric Braeden (Victor) in this storyline, where he has hired “Faux Cassie” to get the goods on Sharon (Sharon Case) and find out her secret?

CAMRYN:  It’s really, really fun.  We only had scenes when I was on Y&R previously, when it would be like at a family pool party.  So it’s fun to work with him on this new dynamic, where I challenge him a little bit, and he challenges me back.

When did you pick acting back up after you left Y&R, and were killed off as Cassie?  The Y&R fans have always loved you.

CAMYRN:  When I left Y&R, I pretty much took several years off to finish school. Then when I was 18, I kind of started acting again.  I did a few guest spots on TV shows and I was in the movie Magic Mike!   It was great working on the film.

Recently crowned Oscar winner, Matthew McConaughey was in that film too!  What have you thought about his career metamorphosis?

CAMRYN: With Matthew McConaughey, he has really broken out of what he started doing.  He is really in his prime right now.  I haven’t seen him in True Detective, but my boyfriend keeps telling me I have to watch it …  so I have to catch up on it.

It seems that the “Faux Cassie” may actually be developing a heart.  On yesterday’s episode, she seemed to be showing signs in her conversation with Victor that she liked Sharon and felt bad for gaslighting her!

CAMRYN:  I think everybody has a heart.  I think you are going to see a more dimensional character than everybody would think.  And I hope they keep doing this big shocker stuff, because that was so cool!  Nobody knew except the day of that this “Cassie” figment was actually going to be a real person.  I think Y&R is going for more primetime-esque shockers now!

Speaking of shockers, do you think in a kind of twisted plot twist, “Faux Cassie” could develop feelings for Cassie’s adopted dad, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow)? 

CAMRYN:  Oh no, please no!  That would be so weird for me.  I have had a few fans say, “Maybe she will hook up with Nick!” And I say, “Let’s not go down that road, I have known Joshua since I have been six!” (Laughs)
