Days Of Our Lives
RATINGS: Y&R Over 5 Million, B&B Over 4 Million, GH Over 3 Million In Total Viewers!
It was a very good week for the ratings period of January 5th through January 9th, the first full soap opera new first-run episode week of 2015! Three soap operas did very well in total viewers led by CBS’ The Young and the Restless, who again went over the 5 million mark with 5,110,000 and that is up +66,000 from the previous week.
Next, CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful scored with over 4 million at 4,045,000 and increased the most of any soap in total viewers with +162,00o for the week! Looks like the Rick (Jacob Young), Maya (Karla Mosley), Caroline (Linsey Godfrey), Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and the Forrester family feud and boardroom drama is captivating the audience!

Meanwhile over at General Hospital, the series went up over the 3 million mark in total viewers once again with 3,119,000, and an increase of + 119,000. The only soap to lose viewers is NBC’s Days of our Lives which came in with 2,452,000 and a minus 42,000 in the key category.
DAYS had the big scenes where Will (Guy Wilson) cheated on Sonny ( Freddie Smith) with Paul (Christopher Sean) during the ratings period, and that Thursday episode of January 8th did however bring in the most viewers for their ratings week, but still the show overall was in the minus department.

All four soaps did stay on the positive side and gained viewers in the all important key women’s demos: 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54. View the entire ratings picture courtesy of SON here.

Monday on Entertainment Tonight, the second set of nominations for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced which included the highly-coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actress and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.
ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.
Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.

Beyond the Gates1 week agoRATINGS: ‘Beyond the Gates’ and ‘General Hospital’ Score Highest Weekly Viewer Increase

I have no idea how Y&R stays up..
this past year was horrible in every way..
and B&B, both with CBS– I think somehow the counting of the two has its’ way to keep the numbers up because sure was not a good year for Y&R..
guess the gawkers have tuned in to check out the 3 replacements..
I think Y&R stays up because despite being “horrible in every way” like you say, the weekly ratings validate that most soap fans still find it and B&B more enjoyable to watch than either GH or Days.
“Days of Our Lives” has been horrible year in and year out since 1990. Literally, 25 years of the worst soap ever.
I am loving B&B right now. Sitting on the edge of my seat viewing in real time, suffering through the commercials because 1230 c.s.t does not come soon enough. I am not loving the “FLUKE” story over on GH, however. It’s been too long and 3 rotations. I understand the Tony was ill but he’s back now and everyone is in jail, it’s just so taxing to watch. I am hoping for a new “surge” in storylines from the new writer at Y&R, it is long overdue and if it doesn’t happen, a 40 year viewer may delete it from the DVR this year. IMO
Days has got a few good things going for them right now – mainly the fact that they’ve made John a cop again & things seem to be on the mend for him and Marlena. Their other storyline is Hope & Aiden – his secrets are coming to light and blinded-by-love Hope is standing by her man thus far, despite the protests of Kayla as well as other evidence that should set something off in the cop-side of Hope. I just want to see this storyline play out – there’s a good chemistry there (not of Bope proportions, but since PR isn’t coming back at this point, it’ll do) and see some serious working towards each other for Hope & Aiden without his “secret” being a fizzle-out eyeroller.
However, Days needs to review some storylines that aren’t working. First and foremost, Paige/JJ/Eve. Sorry not sorry, but Paige is about as interesting as a glass of mud. There’s nothing to root for with her character nor sympathize with since – for whatever reason – the powers that be put her on the frontburner without giving the viewers a chance to know her, and now, it’s too little, too late. JJ & Eve is going over like a lead balloon and without Jack there, the involvement of Jennifer in her of-age son’s sex life is creepy at best. They also need to STOP forcing relationships that aren’t working – Daniel/Nicole, Serena/Eric, Brady/Melanie (they’re too brother & sister-like to root for as anything more than friends).
I’ve read on plenty of boards, tweets, facebook posts, etc – that Days needs to PICK UP THE PACE of storylines because they’re boring. Boring storylines, boring characters & unrootable pairings are NOT the way to go, Days. Please wake up and capitalize on what you have that does work – namely John & Marlena and Hope & Aiden, and scrap what doesn’t work — before it’s too late.
And that’s the problem with filming a soap 6 months in advance; there is no opportunity to respond to viewer response. Days need to take a hiatus from filming and get back to being on 3-4 weeks ahead.
Unfortunately they are so far advanced in filming, from what I heard six months, how can you fix it???? I love Days, but I agree, the hillbillies and Paige need to go! Get JJ back to his evil ways, showcase John and Marlena, bring back Julie & Doug. I do disagree on one thing. I think Nicole & Daniel are great together and throw Eric into the mix and you will have great drama!
After 2 years of watching and trying and failing to feel a connection to Y&R, Days is a very welcome change for me. Days moves at lighting speed compared to Y&R. I certainly don’t know character histories; but, I am enjoying the characters and care what happens to them. The entire look and feel of the show is alive. I agree that the Daniel/Nicole thing isn’t working for me. I hope Aiden’s secret isn’t a dud. It’s too soon for me to have an opinion on Brady and Melanie. I do agree they do seem more like brother and sister. But, I’m open. I’ve very hopeful about what will be revealed about Serena. And Eve needs a MAN to wrestle with.
Agreed. But, I love Lucy fan, Marlena and John, as a couple, do not attract the younger viewers. Everyone seems to forget about us. I cannot stand those two……especially, John. The same goes for Hope and Aiden. I liked that idea, but now, we are looking at Aiden as a baddie. I guess it would not segue in the concept of what a soap is; yet, I am bored with these recycled stories.
And, what about that disgusting make-out-session between Kate and Clyde? Yuck!!!!! I had to run to the bathroom and wash my mouth out with soap. Lordy Lord….no one wants to see that! Am I wrong? Am I the only one?
The only couple I am interested in, right now….is Chad and Jordan. That relationship has potential, albeit she is getting quite tiresome with her semi-closed EYE (what’s wrong with her right eye? Too much make-up?). Chad is a hunk…perhaps the Jordan recast will bring something to the table that will have us transfixed. I hope so. IMO, this couple, if cultivated will be the IT couple of Days.
CeeCee,
Yess! I gag at Kate and Clyde!
No, the character and actor of Chad are too weak to carry anything.
John and Marlena do attract an older crowd, they buy stuff, too, so it can’t be just young people.
@DJCFlorida.
Hi,
I really like Kate, but not with Clyde and not in this role. So, with that out of the way, I can honestly say that Kate is being projected as a spoiled, little brat. She is a great actress and deserves a role where she can showcase her craft with pride.
Why are TPTB pitting her against a woman half her age? (Jordan). That, in my opinion, is so demeaning. Holy moly! There is no comparison….apples and prunes. I am not trying to be offensive or crass, but, c’mon, now…. It seems that all soaps are following this pattern…pitting women, young and old, and not so young and not so old, against each other. Kate still has this disdain toward Jordan over Rafe, a past lover young enough to be her son.
Please, writers, steer Kate in the right direction. Obviously, Clyde “ain’t doin’ ” it for her….she’s so grumpy and dissatisfied.
A lot of these soaps are not captivating like back in the days.even if we didn’t like a story we tune in for the others. GH writers have destroyed so much history and relationships it not funny. I just cant even watch.I was a dedicated abc soap girl. Now cbs has caught my attention and its goood. I’m loving Gina as the new Phyills. The new Adam not so much but its still good.At least Jack knows Adam is alive and keeping it a secret.Over at GH Jason is alive and its still a secret to everyone he loves except for one who is in Paris shes not not the show right now.Listen GH you can take a page from Y&R.Reveal Jason is alive now to somebody on canvas of the show since you guys don’t like Robin.Days get it together you guys have become boring SMH.
GH is amazing as always …what i am pleased about is the success of Bold without Brooke and Hope!!! Brad bell should now understand that he has better options than the logans!! Brimg back Steffi, Taylor and Thomas and let the ratings soar!! Hope should stay away and IF Brooke must come back it should be to be reunited witn Eric, her only interesting match..
Great to see this! I love to see GH facebook & message boards positive comments about Billy Miller now. Many fans melted down after announcing a new Jason. I thought he was going to get burned at the stake. What a nice shift. Of course there will always be negative comments and I get it. The most negative comments I see now about “Jakeson” is frustration that he doesn’t know who he is yet. That’ s a great sign. Thank goodness sweeps if days away! Helena’s bringing me down. She always starts off strong, but now she’s in every s/l. It’s way too much now. Complete overkill. Why am i surprised? Bye Helena!
I feel bad about Days. A year ago I thought it was the most solid of all of the soaps. My how things change. What I don’t like: Jordan, who’s been on the show a year and half, plenty of time to see it’s not working writers, but no, you bring in Ben and Clyde. For Pete’s sakes! REALLY? Biggest bomb in soap history, but they’re still there. Clyde & Kate, Clyde w/Marlena spilling his past. GROSS!! Kill him Victor! Hope & Aiden are barely on but are great. John & Marlena also never on. Find Kayla a man. Find Rafe a woman. Find Theresa good man. STOP making a victim and begger!! Get Jen a psychiatrist. Lucas and Adrienne..um, um..if it gets Lucas onscreen more, why not?
I’m starting to see a lot of great changes with DAYS. The demos are the most important part of the ratings and they’re going up.
DAYS is doing something better than finding Kayla a man. They are bringing Steve back! Stephen Nichols is returning to DAYS!!!
Hope it improves…and that they are bringing him back!!!
REALLY? I was hoping he’d be back on GH, but I’d love to see him on Days!! Kayla and Patch lives on in 2015!!
OMG
@4
you know this to be ???? fact?
LOL
i’m laughing and crying at the possibilities just to see and know my Kayla has a future moving
I meant in my above post about Days for the show to please stop making Nicole the victim and a begger!! She’s fabulous! Leading lady that keeps getting pushed back as a day player. IMO.
“…I feel bad about Days. A year ago I thought it was the most solid of all of the soaps. ”
that’s the gods honest truth
as i’ve posted : DAYS deservedly so… needs to take it hits… and does… with no spiral… there are still many reasons to tune in…
Oye! it’s keeping it’s core audience
after coming of off near two year highs…. 2012/ 2013…. throw in that best serial emmy… and i’ll soapbox : 2014 dissapointed without doubt… with Y&R
cheerleading IS
I am hoping with: that DAYS rebounds and stratosphere 50 + years belong
go Salem’ites
Had to reply here, Patrick. I read conversations about it on Facebook and Twitter. I thought is was true, but when I checked out Stephen Nichols Facebook and Twitter, I discovered it’s only a possibility. He seems really excited at the prospect!
over the last few years . With the cancellation of abc one life to live and all my children I have tried the other soaps , sorry to say I just don’t like them how they got to stay on the air and oltl did not is beyond me oltl was by far the best soap ever I would soo like to see abc bring it back that and gh is the best . The rest just don’t have the same feel ,….
I watched Y&R for 2 years hoping I’d eventually feel something for the characters or the stories. Nothing. I started watching Days about 5 months ago and at least it’s alive and the characters are interesting and things happen. That’s more than I can say about Y&R.
I definitely agree with you Kim. OLTL is the very best and should be back on the air.
I used to watch Days every day but I just can’t do it now. The stories are too dull and I’m not invested in any pairing. I had been interested in Hope and Aiden but they both said “I love you” much too quickly, all so that the writers could tell the Hitchcock-like story about Aiden and his late wife, if she is actually dead. I adore Kassie DePaiva but her current story is a dog and even she can’t salvage it. It’s crazy to ask me to care about Jordan and her step father or her brother or her boyfriend when I know she’s leaving soon. I could care less if JJ and Paige get together or not. Nothing against Billy Flynn, but Chad is not a strong enough character to be the town baddie. And I have loved James Read since he was on North and South, and he’s very good in his scenes, but Clyde is out of place on the show. I wish they’d brought the actor in as a different character. I can’t help but feel that the only reason we’re seeing Daniel and Nicole together is because TPTB know that the audience knows that the actors are romantically involved in real life, so why not give the audience something to watch where they ask themselves if this is how it’s like when Ari Zucker and Shawn Christian are home? And Serena–I know she’s got a big secret and reveal coming up but telling us that she and Eric had this great love in Africa and dropping her into the show like she’s been here forever, is a mistake. I’m glad they reunited John and Marlena, but it was done in a very quick, superficial way where none of their issues were resolved, but then again, it’s been so long since they’ve been a couple, I can’t say I even remember what their issues were.
I’m watching GH now, and I occasionally watch B&B. I’m glad their ratings went up. Both shows have their flaws but I’m looking forward to Sonny and Julian working together to save their loved ones, and Julian hopefully reuniting with Alexis. And I can’t wait to see how Brooke’s return to L.A. will affect Rick and Maya and Ridge and Caroline. Those shows keep me tuning in. On Days, I can’t think of one thing I’m psyched to see happen in the coming weeks and that’s sad.
Ive said it hundreds of times: Bill(Jerry Ver Dorn) and Laura(Erika Slezak) and have Bill the new cheif of staff when Kayla steps down to help mom Caroline who is seriusly ill…have Laura unstable and jealous of Kate, thinking Kate and Bill have resumed their affair…pair Clyde with Eve but have Clyde become obsessed with Kate…Kate thinks Laura is stalking her but its Clyde…Clyde rapes Abigail after Ben leaves town because she rejected his marriage purposal…Clyde is shot dead by Jennifer who has mental collapse just like her mother and his hospitalized…someone secretly watches Jen and Eve…could it be Jack or Frankie…Kate is now seeing Steve Olsen(Stephan Schnetzer) a playboy con artist who plans to trick Kate out of thousands of dollars and her company but in the process falls genuinely in love with her…however, Kate dumps him after learning his schemes before he can tell her how he feels…Kate and Roman become a couple…Brady and Theresa Tad and Melanie could work…Kayla becomes attracted to Abe as does Maxine but Abe is dating Valerie Grant(Debbie Morgan) who turns out to be Maxines cousin…Valerie has never stopped loving David Banning, Julies son…Kayla starts dating Rafe…J.J. turns to alchol and in a drunken stupor beds a willing Bev who becomes preggers…Paige learns mommy dearest slept with jj and develops an edge, vowing to destroy Eves new relationship with Peter Blake(James Depaiva) who is fighting with Chad over Dimera Enterprise…Aiden attacks and nearly kills Doug after Doug learns Aiden murdered his first wife for the insurance money…Aiden ties up Hope, Ciara and Julie in the Horton garage and leaves Jens car running so the fumes will kill them…a motorcycle approches the Horton house and its Bo to the rescue!!!
Days is a snooze right now and when you snooze, you loose-viewers!!!
Ugh…sorry for typo errors…also failed to mention that both Nicole and Theresa learn they have a child out there plus Nicole learns she is the daughter of Lee Dumonde(Robin Strasser) who is also involved with Stephano Dimera!!!
I would rather bring back the last Laura, who was played by Jaime Lyn Bauer. She played “the crazy” rather well and I would like to see her even in a short story arc like they did with Nancy Wesley back in 2013.
I like Jamie Lynn too and rather see her reprise her Lauralee Brooks on Y&R but i think a reunion of Erika and Jerry as Bill and Laura could pull in more viewers to Days but if not id welcome Jamie Lynn back to Days as Laura!!!
The 5 million, 4 million and 3 million numbers are mostly due to time of year and weather, that’s apparent if you look at history.
The negative take away would be the comparison from the same time last year and it’s significant at GH and Days. All the soaps are down from this time last year, but GH is down over 20% in all three demo categories and Days looks like a train wreck. It’s worse for GH though because it has had times where it was on the upswing and it has so much more potential to do well if the writing and production would step up its game.
I’m glad that soaps ratings are up but for the life of me I can’t understand why…they arent avant garde taking risk redefining the genre. The storytelling is sloppy with open ended story that is never written to a satisfying close/stopping point..
The GH Variety Show is the worse with a huge cast and GH original favorites playing back up to new cast… and its some times a campy mess. But give them props for writing for Alexis…even though most story for women is basically pairing driven no dick no story. Kudos for NLG new show..its good for soaps. Hope to see Michael Fairman on there one day. You deserve it for all you do for us.
Elizabeth Webber with a huge fanbase is still treated like a red headed step child with no family although I give Carlintini props and kudos she’s written much better than in the past. But she isn’t getting the kind of attention Nina Ava and Sam McCall get. They have family on the show…
Right now B/B is real soap opera IMO and they are only on 19 minutes.
B&B ratings up 2 weeks only nothing to go celebrating about.
The Logan’s make the show & am looking forward to seeing Brooke return. Ratings high or lower doesn’t matter to me. Only a certain few who their favs are gone think so LMAO!!! If your Favs were so great why are they NOT on B&B? Why do they come back only once in a blue moon? I guess when their money runs out they can always count on Bell feeling sorry for them and giving them a day or 2 to work. LOL!
Days has definitely hit a major bump in the road. Two years ago it won best drama at the Emmy awards what happened??? It doesn’t even put me to sleep anymore, because I just don’t bother tuning in until the last 15 minutes and I get the idea of what went down. I am loyal to the last four soaps because I know when one of them goes, the rest will most likely go too, so I try to be supportive, but honestly Days isn’t getting unbearable to watch, not just stories but the look.
They downsized the sets again in reducing the two mansions in town to two little rooms. And when I saw Will meet Paul in that office that has been used for every office for years with tiny tweaks in it, I wanted to scream. That ugly white couch that used to be in the town square until they made the square smaller, magically shows up inside the campus of Salem U, which simply was the hallway of Salem high, with new paint and minus the lockers. It is getting silly and it is ruining my enjoyment of the show— sets are important to the success of a show and Days is missing the mark by going on the cheap with them.
Everyone has been complaining how bad Y&R was, but honestly Days right now is far worse than Y&R ever was and the numbers are showing it. They need a major shake up behind the scenes otherwise this show’s 50th year will be it’s last.
thank you!!! someone else distracted by the cheapo sets of days!
geez, its gotten to the point where i get excited by finally seeing a new set! looks like niclole got a office so she doesnt have to hang out at the brdy pub and dr dans apartment!
that park, that stupid everyone s office with a new bookshelf but that tiny window by the door!
c mon days , sony, nbc, whoever its beyond embaressing! its gotten to the point i cant get passd it either!
After 4 years of utter shite, B&B has finally got rid of its worst character and most annoying actress (Hope/Kim Matula) and is suddenly great again!
Y&R is dull as ditch-water and words cannot describe how much I hate this storyline revolving around its most boring character Dylan, ‘Save Crimson Lights’ YAWN! Dylan was one of the worst stunt casts ever, the eternally incompetent Jill F-P just brought Steve Burton in thinking that no matter how badly written the character was we’d love him, well Jill, sorry but we don’t! Even the storylines that have potential on Y&R i don’t get excited about (such as the Chancellor takeover battle) because I have no faith whatsoever in the dreadful EP or crap writers, especially the Pratt!
GH is good, and I have said for a long time that it’s the most well written and imaginative show of them all; the only criticisms I have is that there is just too damn much of it, too many characters, too many storylines, I forget who’s doing what and storylines are sidelined for so long that I lose interest in them.
DAYS – I feel reviews of this recently have been harsh, the show is not at its best, but its by far not at its worst. I am loving the Will-Paul-Sonny story (though I don’t like the way Will seems to feel no remorse whatsoever for cheating on Sonny), but the problem with the other stories (and Y&R are also guilty of this with Stitch and co) is that they are all centred around newbies and there is too much focus on what they did in the past, which doesn’t interest me, I don’t care what Jordan did to her mother in the past and I don’t care about what Eric’s ex did before coming to town either!!
maybe its time for the networks to expand their soap offerings?
DAYS would benefit by some casting of longtime stars from once-rival soaps. B&B is interesting without Hope and Wyatt. Thank you! Still has a long way to go for me though to be what it was. Y&R is trying to come back. I miss the show’s use of music. Overall, just glad soaps are still vibrant. Wish they would come back and we would have new ones soon, too.
