REPORT: Days of our Lives Renewal Update: Sony and NBC In Talks, Insiders Optimistic While Show Pauses Production

Photo: JPI

Every year around this time, Days of our Lives renewal has been its own cliffhanger.  With the show taping episodes so far in advance and wrapping their current season, the series paused production and went dark on April 16th, according to TV Line.

Now comes the waiting game and according to a report from Deadline on Wednesday, NBC and Sony are continuing to be in talks to bring the series back for its 57th season. While no one from any camp is officially commenting on the negotiations, their sources are reporting that things do look optimistic, as of now.

The report indicates that in anticipation of a renewal, the producers have been making if-come deals with key cast members in the past few weeks and the writing team is said to be hard at work on potential scripts for the new season.

In the past, DAYS’ renewal had taken several months to pan out, because of how the show’s distributor Sony Pictures Television has to adjust its business model to continue the show without going in the red.

Even though over the years DAYS had declined in the linear ratings, there appears to be a commitment by the studio and NBC to find ways to keep it on the air.

So, are you hopeful that DAYS will survive yet another negotiation for renewal? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Kill it, pull the plug. If Carlivati is going to continue to write this crap, let it go.
Im an old viewer starting when I was 12 years old and now I’m 59. 47 years of my life.
A few years ago, I fought like hell online for the show not to be cancelled. I poured my heart and soul into that cause. For me to say End It….that’s major. ⌛️The sand has run out.

I’ve watched for 37 years and while I don’t think Carlivati has done a bad job, I do believe the show has run its course. I actually feel that way about all four remaining shows.

Instead of saying “Kill it”, don’t watch it and allow those who still love it to continue enjoying it. Don’t be a spoiled brat about it.

Well said no one is making them watch it , so don’t ruin it for those who look forward to it everyday. Shut up and get off our channel . Keep the show coming I love my days , don’t always agree with the storyline but I still watch it faithfully

If you are not happy with the story lines on DOOL then STOP watching. No one is forcing you watch DOOL.

Hello Moto! 62! You are where I was from the late 1960s to the mid 2000s with GH (but you logged in 10 more years — for anyone keeping track of the math — with DOOL than I did with GH). It infuriated me what GH had become (focus on Sonny, the mob, no respect for veteran actors, no concern for its history). I finally gave up and turned to other soaps. DOOL is equally infuriating right now — so flawed. It’s sad when a good soap goes bad…

Thanks James. I’m getting a kick out of the people telling me to stop watching after 47 years. I’d have to go to some sort of rehab, wouldn’t I? Hi I’m Moto and I’m addicted to Days. lol

Funny stuff, Moto62!

Oh James, how right you are. I’m FFing GH consistently now. Sonny’s amnesia? “Nice people” Willow and Michael betraying Chase every day? Molly a junior D.A. already? “Doctor” T.J. beating up Brando at GH with no consequences? Cameron’s insane rampage against Jason? All are sleep inducing and wastes of talent. And Peter Puke is still besting Anna, Robert, Valentin, Maxie, Jason, us….what are they THINKING?!

Don’t take Days off the air!

Not only should Days 100% be renewed it should be rewarded with a bigger budget!!!
If covid has taught studio execs anything is viewers need comfort viewing hence all these reboots of 80s sitcoms! Days needs should be treated as an anchor for NBC daytime! Viewers need escapism more than ever! We certainly dont need a 5th hour of gma or a talk with no recognizable hosts or another screechy talk show like the girl from e.t. ( shes so fake and horrible i blocked her name from my memory)
Plus as a bonus Days delivers nonstop, if you miss an eppy you miss alot, its like a primetime soap!
Nbc and sony execs pls dont be cheap or shortsighted! Renew Salem!

I’ve missed several episodes, Damien, and have missed little-to-nothing.

Days needs a 2 year renewal, this 1 year renewal gets to stressful lol. I hope Days, makes changes. Rumour is there looking for a Hope recast.

I’m in Australia and have watched Days my entire life. Firstly with my mother and grandmother then just my mother and now just me, I have ridden the waves of the storyline’s I have loved and the ones I haven’t. Because one thing is for sure. I would much rather have Days in my life than ever be without it. Please let it be renewed and for those asking for new writers or saying it should be cancelled the solution is simple. Accept change or move on and leave it for the loyal fans that will follow this show no matter what storyline is happening. Just to have the characters that have become like family on our screens. Long live Days

Right now, the way it’s been going and the nuttiest stories ever, I would not miss it in the least. Why beat a dead horse?

They need to bring Robert Scott Wilson and Victoria Konefal back or they are going to lose a lot of people. They brought a lot of people back to the show.

Victoria Konefal decided to be a recurring player. It was HER decision, and I don’t see her changing her mind. And, if the soap could survive without some more prominent and important actors (and their characters), then they can survive without Konefal’s Ciara.

Cherie
As far as Iam concerned, they’ve ruined what would have been a beautiful love story. It has turned boring and with the addition of Theo is even worse. He looks like a teen-age kid next to Ciara and Ben. She sure doesn’t need Theo acting as her champion hero.

They need to renew for multiple years and also renew earlier.

No netwirk is going to committ more than a year at a time except for a very few shows that are guaranteed money makers. Soaps arent!! They wait till th last minute because they are looking for replacements.

Y&R was renewed for two years.

I love days I’ve been watching for so many years. Please renew the contract.

Kill it. It’s days are numbered and it’s been dying a slow death for years.

just cancelled it already, not worth to watch it!!!!!!!!!

In your opinion

SO OVER this crap every year! DAYS is a staple in the NBC network’s programming and deserves better. All TPTB should give it a larger budget to be spent on better promotion and such. They’ve cut so much from the show that it’s already into the bone.

This soap is so bipolar it is barely enjoyable anymore, and, it is a damn shame, because it has the potential to be everything it should be. And considering they are currently not producing, due to it being that time of the year where NBC renews or not, I do think it is time to bring up some major points.

— NBC needs to intervene a this point. Sony Pictures Television could give two-shits about Days of Our Lives, and I have a feeling NBC cares more than Sony, so if i were the network, I would buyout Sony in an effort to gain more control over the day-to-day operations of this soap. Under NBC’s control, Universal Television could take over both distribution and production of the soap, and might bring in some budget for better production values.

— Ken Corday needs to go. Much like Bradley Bell, he is incapable of spearheading this ship anymore. He’s continually providing false promises of reboots and new changes, and all we are given is the same, recycled shit over-and-over-and-over again. I ultimately believe Greg Meng should be brought back in as an executive producer; he was champion for the cast and for this soap, and brought a lot in the final few years. If we want someone with history in American soaps, we could bring on David Shaughnessy, who was quite the effective executive producer at The Young and the Restless for several years, and could do the same at Days of Our Lives. If we want to go to someone of fresher blood, I would recommend bringing on a co-executive producer alongside Meng in the form of Ginger Smith, who served as the executive producer for TOLN’s All My Children. She pulled that soap together within six weeks, and she did an incredible job at doing so. And I do believe she could do it again at Days of Our Lives.

— Ron Carlivati needs to go as head writer. Look, I admit: I was someone who believed Carlivati might just be the one to help this soap as a head writer, and I say that as someone who genuinely dislikes his writing and writing style. His first year or two were quite solid, thanks to additions of Sheri Anderson and Ryan Quan as creative consultants, but once Anderson left it began to genuinely fall apart. He relies on soap tropes that are tired, over-used and recycled, and it needs to ultimately end. If they want to promote from within, I would recommend promoting Lorraine Broderick to the role of head writer: she served in the role from October 15 to November 10, 199.

I know Broderick is not interesting in becoming a head writer after All My Children ended, however, I am going to go towards that time for potential new head writers. Much like Smith, I’d go for Marlene McPherson & Elizabeth Snyder, who were the head writers for TOLN’s All My Children. They did some of the most groundbreaking, edgy work, all while maintaining some classic soap writing. Ultimately, we need writers who’ll stop the dramatics of over-reacting and over-writing, and re-centralize the canvas with some much-required grounding within reality, without missing the important marks. It needs to happen.

A thoughtful piece, Scott, if I may say so… “This soap is so bipolar it is barely enjoyable anymore” — Gold! Not everyone has your insight regarding producers and writers — and they are not given much ink at this site, unless there is a huge personnel change in those departments. I, too, have been critical of certain storylines and actors on this show as well as the constantly revolving door of characters. That is what most viewers, without your further knowledge, see on a day-to-day basis. Some kind of reboot is definitely in order, and I don’t mean the “time jump” variety.

Love this!!! Hope someone is reading this analysis. It just may work!

Cancel it’s time your writers keep writing the same story just with different people. I started watching in 1967 and now I fast forward just to see if anything is happening, too bad I don’t have to stop it often.

Been watching Days since the beginning!! I would hate to see it go off the air. It is my bright spot of the day to watch the goings on in Salem!! Please renew!!!

Keep it I watch it everyday I love the show

Love Days Of Our Lives….Please renew the show!

Let’s be honest: DOOL hasn’t been the same since Pat Falken Smith and Bill Rega were ousted as the head writers in favor of Ann Marcus. Marcus destroyed legacy characters–turned Bill who had always been a one-woman man–into a non-one woman man, and Laura into a psychotic mess (ok, that was aided and abetted by the incomparable and Emmy winning Susan Flannery leaving the show and TPTB’s inability of getting a new Laura up to the task as Susan Oliver was a very very bad miscast and totally out of her depth and only mitigated somewhat after Rosemary Forsythe came on board; only saw Jamie Lyn Bauer’s Laura in a few guest appearances, and she seemed nothing more than a placeholder and the character’s now been killed off). I know James Reilly is a fan fave but his imagination is what really put the show over the top. I was intrigued by Carlivati’s “one year time jump” but it proved a one-trick gimmick that wore out its welcome in less than an week. As much as I revere my fond memories of the show, I find it totally unwatchable and as much as the afternoon TV landscape would be changed without it, I don’t think it will be as much of a loss on par with that of All My Children and One Life to Live.

Yes I am hopeful. I have watched almost from beginning and is the best soap ever. It would be missed greatly.

I a big fan of days of the lives and enjoying watching please keep going another year keep it on the air.

There are only two soaps that have ever aired in Hell. They also happen to be the two oldest shows currently on the air either down here or up there, and both have come close to getting canceled in recent years, thanks to ReRon’s horrible writing.

He killed One Life to Live. He came damn close to killing General Hospital. Don’t let him kill Days. Get rid of him. Now. And take his idiotic repeat tape loop plots of baby switches, dopplegangers/masks, mental cases and “reformed” serial killers with him…. and do it before he tries to explain Ben’s past with a brain tumor (like he did with his pet serial killer on GH…. a ridiculous mistake that took nearly a decade to resolve, but FINALLY was – 6 years or so after ReRon was gone from GH)

Aside from the bad writing, there’s also been neglect of Salem’s core families for a while now. There are only a handful of people with Horton DNA currently in Salem, and only two (Lucas & his daughter Allie) who actually have the name. The Brady clan isn’t doing much better. Kayla’s the only original Brady who’s around on any semi-regular basis. Roman is rarely seen. Sami’s a revolving door, and her siblings are long gone.

Even the two families which turned up later are in trouble. Other than the occasional Tony appearance, the only DiMeras we see are the kids that didn’t grow up that way. Hell, Stefano never even MET Jake. Or his dead twin brother Stefan. And with old Victor being gone most of the time (permanently so, soon, I’m afraid, given his obvious declining health) the Kiriakis family tree is pretty much down to Phillip & Xander.

Yeah, the Elvis recast is on the way….. given all the other failed recasts under the current regime, I’m not putting much faith in that.

Bring back Will & Sonny, for Hell’s sake. The ultimate Days legacy couple. Between the two of them, they’re probably related to everybody. And if you need new characters, there’s always Sonny’s brothers. Who for some reason have never been seen, or at least not since a random appearance as a little kid on some Xmas episode, decades ago (Senior Devil moment, I can’t actually remember if any of them were ever shown as children)

Losing Sarah Horton was a mistake…. though I suspect we might be in for a recast there, now that talk of the “private DiMera island” has suddenly come up again. Sarah should be back. As well as Jennifer & Mike. And some other Hortons previously unseen or not seen in so long we forgot their names. Hell, they created cousin Eli out of thin air a few years ago. I mean, the relationship of his parents David & Valerie made daytime history when it happened back in the 70s…. but Eli wasn’t supposedly born until YEARS after that. Weird retcon… especially since they killed off poor David in absence even before Eli showed up. That was another mistake…. they should have brought him back at the time along with his kid. Neither one used the Horton name, but legit family ties at least.

The Brady family tree could use some new branches. Bring the rest of Sami’s kids back. Bring Steve & Kayla’s kids out of exile. Not expecting a Kim & Shane return at this point, but their kids could always make a comeback. Don’t think we have seen Andrew since he was a baby. Teresa had potential as a character. And for the love of all that’s unholy, can we get the REAL Eve Donovan back, for Hell’s sake?? Yeah, she was only a step-Brady, but she would be a worthy addition to the cast. Unlike that abomination pet of ReRon’s who tarnished that character’s name.

Anyway, I don’t want to be a rambling incoherent Devil here, so I’ll quit now, but just sayin’… there are things that could be done to save this show. I’ll even come up and possess Marlena again, if that’s what it takes!!

I would be heart broken. Been watching over 40 years. Please renew.

I love days of our lives I want it to keep going I like all the actors .so please keep it on I am a Senior love to watch this is the only show I watch .I would be so upset if the show goes of the air

Been a fan since watching with my mom,
Keep it, find a new Hope and Ciara find actors who want the job, and get rid of the Aunt Pauline drama

Yes I hope they continue on with another season. I have been watching for 47 years. This program is like my family.

Was a daily watcher for close to 20 years everything used to be done early on the day or after 2pm but haven’t watched last 7 years and not miss it at all

I have watched Days from day one. I love the show.

Don’t end!!! It’s one of the things I can rely on, the sun rising and seeing another episode of Days

I watch 3 soaps This is my favorite by far Hope it stays on air

I felt compelled to watch the “Susan Banks” scenes today (with Jake), only because I wanted to see if Jake would notice Kate lying on the floor. Once Kristen was alone, she commented that Kate realized she was actually “Susan Banks.” Surely, the actress meant to state that Kate realized she was actually “Kristen.” Is there not enough money in the budget to do a retake on such a crucial mistake in delivery (or perhaps script)?!?!

Jamesj75
I caught that too, but I think they made up for it today watching Gwen roll down that staircase twice in succession. I guess once was not enough.

Hi Violet! So glad you noticed what I did. I also thought it was weird to see back-to-back clips of Gwen rolling down the staircase. It reminded me of a scene from ATWT from the 1970s. Maybe you were watching… Kim (Kathryn Hays) was planning to leave Dr. John Dixon (Larry Bryygman) for Dan (John Reilly) when John fell down the stairs. Out of obligation, Kim stayed with John for quite a while so that she could take care of him while he recuperated. They showed the scene of John falling down the staircase repeatedly over weeks to the point of overkill. Yeah, we got it. He fell down the stairs!

Jamesj75
Oh my, next to GL, my favorite soap. Yes, I remember all of John’s shinanigans, not with just Kim and Lisa, also Ellen’s daughter, was that Annie or the other one and many others but later liked him with Lucinda.
That man was a piece of work, wasn’t he, but such a great actor and a great show to remember. Sometimes I watch the old episodes on UTube. In fact was watching some a while back with Carly, Jack and Hal. I was broken hearted when he took his own life. Oh, I better quit now. Thanks for reminiscing with me James.

Hi Violet. So glad you noticed my post and replied. And that you are familiar with ATWT during that period. What a great soap GL was, too! Great reminiscing with you, as well. It’s one of my best events! 🙂

Yes, Violet, these were great soap days. GL was my favorite also. BTW, I think Ellen and David Stewart’s other daughter was Dawn. She was played by Glynnis O’Connor at one point; she later starred in the movies JEREMY and ODE TO BILLY JOE, among others. Do you remember Annie’s husband Jeff, played by Robert Lipton? I had a big crush on him and recently found out he was considered for the role of Benjamin in THE GRADUATE, which went to Dustin Hoffman. I love trivia!

Oh Jamesj75, talk about memory lane! Do u remember when Kim first entered Oakdale, circa 1973? She wasn’t always the saint she later became. As I recall, she started out scheming to get Bob from her sister Jennifer. Kathryn Hays was a special kind of femme fatale in the beginning and my mom and I looked forward to every time she was on. Between her, the divine Eileen Fulton, and the comfort of Nancy’s kitchen, how I awaited each day!

Soaphound
I also love trivia, and yes I remember Robert Lipton as well. When K. Hayes joined the show I was so excited to find out that she was or had been married to one of my favorite movie stars,Glen Ford.Speaking of Nancy’s kitchen brings back to mind Penny and Jeff and Grampa Hughes and so many more.

Soaphound
Forgot to mention the fact of how very impressed to find out when K. Hayes first appeared that she was or had been married to one of my favorite movie stars, Glen Ford.

OMG Am getting as bad as those scenes repeating over and over.

Soaphound, so glad to see your input in this memory lane segment! I don’t think I was watching ATWT when Kim first came on. It’s quite the genesis to this iconic character! Thank you for filling in the blanks. The other main storyline involving John Dixon I remember is him convincing a woman to kidnap a baby, and they did a couple of dry runs. Other details are sketchy.

My main show was GH, along with the ABC lineup. I also tended to sample most other soaps throughout the late 60s, 70s, and 80s. When all (or most) of them were all 30 minutes long, it was easier to do. Such was the life for a “latchkey kid!”

And addressing your mention to Violet of Glynnis O’Conner and the 1976 film Ode to Billy Joe, I remember that movie well. I had a crush on both Glynnis and her costar Robbie Benson! I later enjoyed Robbie in One on One (loved the soundtrack; songs by Seals Crofts and instrumentals) and Ice Castles (love song, “Through the Eyes of Love” by one of my faves, Melissa Manchester).

Oh gosh, I’ve really gone off on a tangent here… I’m sure some readers are wishing I would fall down some staircase or be kidnapped! 🙂

Jamesj75
Also to Soaphound. Thanks for the memories. As I am nearing 89 this year, it is those memories that bring so much pleasure. They are imbedded so deeply that they can be brought up whenever needed with help from soap friends like you. The others don’t have to read, like you were told you don’t have to watch, James. Ha,ha.

Violet, so glad that this discussion is pleasurable for you. As it is for me… I was away from this site for a week or so, hence the late reply. But I share your affection for nostalgia. I am open to it anytime. Take care.

Yes, my dear Jamesj75, I liked Robby Benson too. I used to imagine my fingers in all that lush hair he had in ICE CASTLES. And Melissa Manchester! Around 2008, Wounded Bird records reissued ALL of her albums on remastered CDs. I would purchase 2 every payday until I had them all back again on discs. HELP IS ON THE WAY and BETTER DAYS… are my favorite albums, DON’T CRY OUT LOUD also. Boy, the 70s were great TV AND music!

Soaphound, so enjoyable to hear about your interest in Robby Benson — you’d think I would have spelled his name correctly the first time!! As I mentioned to our friend Violet, I was away from the site for a week, or I would have replied sooner. Anyway, I suspect you and I could chat at length about Melissa Manchester. I am with you on those great albums. I have been a fan since I heard “Midnight Blue” on the radio. Take care.

With all the crap going on in the real world, I need my escape to my soap world. I started watching with my great grandmother and still watching today. I need it for my release. I can scream at the tv and it helps to get it out on something other than the real world. Please renew my safe place.

I hope it will be renewed I have been watching it for 56 years it’s my favorite soap always has been

Haley Pullos Receives 90-Day Jail Sentence Following DUI Charge And Wrong-Way Car Crash

Former General Hospital actress, Haley Pullos (ex-Molly Lansing-Davis) is going to be doing time in jail, exactly one-year after her arrest from a hit and run wrong-way car collision.

The crash resulted in bodily harm and damages to the other driver, and now Pullos who pleaded “no contest” to the charges and will serve 90 days in jail. She was taken in custody on Monday, April 29th, after the ruling.

According to Haley’s attorney, Mark Daniel Melnick, the 25-year-old actress struck a plea deal and after her three months in jail will be sentenced on July 29th. As part of that sentencing, she must serve five years probation, 200 hours of community service and pay $8,260 in restitution to Courteney Wilder, the other driver in the crash and her driver’s license is revoked for a year.

According to TMZ, the plea deal for Pullos has the “no contest” to one DUI, while the judge dropped the felony DUI causing bodily injury and misdemeanor hit and run charges.

Melnick said in a statement to PEOPLE, “Haley is very grateful to the court for a minimum sentence and for recognizing her remorse and the strides she has made in her sobriety.”

Pullos had played the daughter of Alexis Davis (played by Nancy Lee Grahn) on the ABC soap opera since 2009, but after her car crash and DUI she was replaced by three different actresses until the show finally settled on the current Molly, Kristen Vaganos.

Back in April 29 of 2023, and at the scene of the crash, the police found edibles and mini-bottles of tequila in Pullos’ vehicle and that she was intoxicated. As it turned out, this was to be the second hit and run in the evening for Pullos who had an earlier collision with another car.

The courts decision follows a year-long legal battle with Haley’s pleas changing throughout it, ranging from “not guilty” to “no contest”. She sought treatment for her drinking at a rehab following the crash.

Nancy Lee Grahn, who portrayed Pullos’ on-screen mom took to X on Monday night, April 29th and shared on the sentence and the specific jail, Haley will be serving time: “As Haley’s TV mom I can tell some truths about her as I’ve loved her since she was little girl. She made a HUGE mistake, knows it, owns it & has spent the last yr doing EVERYTHING imaginable to take responsibility 4 it. It’s not that I oppose jail. It’s that I oppose this jail.” The jail in question by Grahn is the L.A. county jail.

So, what do you think about Haley Pullos serving a 90-days jail sentence, and the other rulings that will be part of her sentencing? Comment below.

Marla Adams, The Young and the Restless’ Dina Mergeron, Dies at 85

Marla Adams, best known for portraying matriarch, Dina Abbott Mergeron on CBS’ The Young and the Restless for 37 years, died on April 25, 2024, in Los Angeles. The news came from Y&R’s Director of Media and Talent, Matt Kane.

Throughout her veteran soap opera career, Marla appeared had appeared on Secret Storm (in her other longest running soap role as Bell Clemens from 1988-1974), The Bold and the Beautiful (ex-Beth Logan), Days of our Lives (ex-Dr. Claire McIntyre), Generations (ex- Helen Mullin), General Hospital (ex-Mildred Deal) and Capitol (ex-Myrna Clegg).

However, it was her role as Y&R’s upper crust Dina, who abandoned her children and her marriage to John Abbott (the late Jerry Douglas) that was her most memorable role. Throughout the years, Dina would have several romantic reunions with John, but in 2017, the character returned to Genoa City to reunite with her estranged family. Dina was the on-screen mother to Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

As for Adams, she joined Y&R in 1982, but left the soap three years later her contract expired. She returned to Genoa City for stints in 1991, 1996 and 2008 before being asked by then Y&R head writer-producer Sally Sussman to return in 2017, which would begin the top-rated daytime drama telling the story of Alzheimer’s disease. Through Dina, the show shed light on a person going through the perils of the illness, and how the family copes and tries to come to terms with its fate.

In fact, Marla took home the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 2021 for her work in the storyline, She had previously been nominated in 2018.

Speaking with Michael Fairman TV, Marla shared on her final scenes on Y&R when Dina passed away and was reunited with John Abbott, “It was heart-wrenching for me.  In the story, Dina died when she went outside and to the front door of the Abbott home.  They did not tell me before-hand, and that’s why it was so wonderful.  I hope they came in for a closeup of that because I had no makeup on, it was beautiful, and then, Dina said, “Oh, John.”  I’ve done everything from movies, to daytime, to nighttime, to Broadway, but that was the iconic moment for me, to do this gig with wonderful, wonderful actors and friends, and to do this particular storyline.

Born in Ocean City, New Jersey, on August 28, 1938, Adams’ love for the stage was ignited after winning the Miss Ocean City and Miss Cape May pageants and finishing as a runner-up in the Miss New Jersey pageant. She also fondly remembered being the Miss Diamond Jubilee Queen during the 1954 celebration of the 75th anniversary of Ocean City’s founding.  A student at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Adams appeared on Broadway in the 1958 production of The Visit at the Morosco Theatre with Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne and starred as June in the 1961 feature film, Splendor in the Grass

Over the span of her decades long career, Adams starred in more than 40 productions including television’s: The Golden Girls, Hart to Hart, The Love Boat, The New Dick Van Dyke ShowHarry OAdam-12Starsky and HutchMarcus Welby, M.D.Barnaby Jones, and the feature film, Beneath the Leaves.

In a statement, Y&R’s current head writer and executive producer, Josh Griffith expressed, “On behalf of the entire company of The Young and the Restless, we send our deepest sympathies to Marla’s family. We’re so grateful and in awe of Marla’s incredible performance as Dina Mergeron as both Marla and Dina made an unforgettable mark on Y&R.

Marla is survived by her daughter, Pam Oates, son, Gunnar Garat, grandchildren, Gefjon and Stone, and her great-grandson, Remi.

REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

Photo: ABC

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

Photo: ABC

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.

The Michael Fairman Channel spoke with Nicholas Chavez for a virtual interview when he first joined the show in 2021, and spoke to him right after when he won the Daytime Emmy in 2022 – you can see those below.

No word yet on when Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story will debut on Netflix, but it is assumed later this year.

So, what do you think about the news of Nicholas Chavez not returning to his role as Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital? Comment below.
