Looks like another major soap favorite is set to make an exit!

In a report on Tuesday from Daytime Confidential, The Young and the Restless multiple-Daytime Emmy nominated, Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea) has decided to leave the series to pursue primetime TV and film projects.

Egan, who has played the role of the former con artist on the CBS soap opera since 2011, following her successful run as Annie Lavery Chandler on All My Children from 2006-2011, apparently will depart the top-rated soap with the door being left wide open for her return.

In story, Chelsea was paired with Adam (formerly, Justin Hartley), but after he was believed to be killed in an explosion, turned to a new relationship with his half-brother, Nick (Joshua Morrow).

Are you upset to learn Missy is leaving the canvas in Genoa City soon? How will things end for Chelsea to exit the canvas? What about the bio-dad secret of her young son, Christian? Comment below!

Wish her the best but trying to turn her into a heroine was her downfall and she had 0 chemistry with JM!

As I keep stating, K/Kay; you say it best. I did notice that “Chelsea” has become a prop. I wish her mother was still around….at least, we saw some life in that apartment which did not involve constant banale talk….soup without stock, and annoying, baby boy, Nick…Melissa is a good actress, but her talent was not showcased. She came off as someone eho only had a brain for fashion….to the point where she couldn’t even keep an eye on ‘her’ children.
And, to add indult to injury, Nick acts like a complete idiot around her—treats her like a playmate….
I am wondering if Chelsea knew about the money and did not realize Nick would break into that wall.
Did she steal it during her past life?
Hmmmm, Kay….maybe, she’ll take the money, Connor and run? Ergo, her exit?
I do like Melissa—loved her on AMC; by the same token, I can’t say I will miss her.

Celia…I tell ya’…I liked the character of Chelsea…especially in the beginning. Then, eventually, that came to an abrupt end when the show decided to pair Chelsea with that DROOLING MAN-CHILD Nick!!!!! The Nick/Chelsea pairing, BTW, which (for some reason) kept CREEPING ME OUT!!!!! Celia, my dear, believe me…it takes A LOT to creep me out!!!!! Yep.

Later, my friend.

@Jaybird.
Hey, Jay,
Agreed… what can I say, my friend? Great minds think alike….
After Adam’s “death”, TPTB should have left well enough alone…..but there is a shotage of men on soaps….they get recycled…..brothers, uncles, fathers, sisters, mothers, aunts…. LOL.
Yet, they could have simply bypassed Nick—lousy coupling from the get-go..
Later, Jay…..

I am kind of surprised about Feb 2nd episode too see Chelsea closing an account for Alexandra West, and then cutting up the ID and tossing the hat and wig, what is she up to? I’m thinking that Adam is really alive somewhere and she is going to take off with all that money that Nick found and what she just got from the bogus account and take Connor and go to wherever Adam is, and spend quality time with her family. As it’s been said the door is open for her return, so it’s going to be interesting on how the writers cut her out. I’m sorry to see her leave and I hope she makes it in primetime, I would live to see her act. I’m going to miss her.

Hey, K/kay,
I just thought of something…what if Adam contacts Chelsea, telling her he’s alive and asks her to join him, wherever he is? An easy exit.

THAT is brilliant Cee!

EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING…..THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF ADAM TALK…MAYBE WE WILL SEE HIS RETURN….THE STORY WITH NICK HAS BEEN SUPER BORING…….

@Timmm.
Hiyah, T,
Thank you, Timmmy….I think it’s the most logical conclusion for Melissa’s departure.
It was great at the beginning, but once Adam left, as everyone here seems to agree, Chelsea’s time simply became superfluous.

@JK,
Hey, JK,
Didn’t I say we are pretty much in sync, most of the time? LOL…. as I said to Timmm…it’s an easy solution…

Wish Missy the best but it was time and Chick was terrible.

I liked the actress, but never warmed up to the character. Wish her well.

Nope, it’s not the same without Chelsea and Adam……and that is MM’s Adam. Justin was great but it wasn’t the same and Chelsea and Nick absolutely disgust me as a couple. Lack of chemistry as well as I’m tired of everybody in Genoa city hooking up with the same people. Just send Nick back to Sharon…..

I agree. Ioved the beginning of the whole Adam Chelsea story. As you said the MM Adam. The pairing was spot on. Who can’t forget Adam’s wedding proposal in the rain? Loved that whole scene. To me Nick is such a whining pansy. A spoiled rich mama’s boy to the hilt. The only reason I saw for the pairing was Nick’s promise to Adam about watching out for his son.Speaking which, I wonder if and when the truth is going to come out. It was better when her mother was milling about. Even her going at with her father was enjoyable to watch. Not to slight Ms Egan because I always loved Chelsea and the way she was portrayed, but to me se seems like she’s just been going through the motions lately. I wish her the best and hope
she finds what she is looking for. I guess it’s time for yet another round of the saga that is and always will be Sharon and Nick

Love what you said, Bianca….I feel the same way. Nick was never such an juvenile imbecile when with Sharon…I don’t get it?!?!
I may be wrong, but, I repeat…..Chelsea has “no good” on her mind….why the subterfuge with the money?

Not upset Egan is leaving. A very talented actress, but a poorly written character and story line for Chelsea. I don’t blame her. She’s gorgeous, talented and seems perfect for prime time. Good luck!

I am not upset for I am not crazy about the character of Chelsea, but I did miss a lot of the story of her and Adam…I still think Nick and Sharon belong together for I was hooked on Y&R when they met and their story line started on Y&R and I think they make a beautiful couple and there is a lot of history between the two of them…

Yes, yes, yes, Kevin….do you know how many times and for how long I have been saying what you just said?
I sort of watched Y&R since I was four, but did not really start grasping the body and soul of any storyline until I was about thirteen….a few years after Nick and Sharon were married…
I was hooked just as you were, Kevin….rooting for them till this day.
Sooner or later they will end up together….then, all will be well in my soap world, LOL.

TIME TO REUNITE NICK & SHARON!!!!!!

Yes Celia, those were the days of Y&R…

while i like MCE,Chelsea has run her course. since Adam left she hasn’t had much story and is in a bad pairing

Chelsea was never my favorite character and of late has precious little to do– hopefully her they will write a decent exit story for her character and reveal Christian’s true father before she goes– of course without Adam around the reveal won’t have the zing it would have if he was on screen but still it is time for the truth to come out – – and with Chelsea gone perhaps Nick and Sharon will get another kick at the can.

Egan is capable of so much more than the show has given her (especially since Mal Young has taken over).

Sorry to see her go but she has to be bored with her nowhere plot that has mostly consisted of her wearing lingerie for Nick. As for the secret of Christian’s paternity, I’d rather see that left a secret until the show gets a head writer capable of playing the reveal for all it’s worth and not let it go out with a whimper like the sex trafficking ring story. And the Mariah/Tessa story. And the Graham/Dina story. And the Scott/Sharon/Abby story. And the ten minute battle for Jabot. And the Juliet story. And…

So true Alan and I agree with you 100%

Alan, you always put things in perspective….so many stories in so little time that just went, “POOF”.

I agree totally also. Wish her well as she has been under- utilized for so long. Wish her well!

I always thought Christian would develop the same eye problems as Adam/Connor. Then the truth would come out. Perhaps Chelsea will take both boys and meet up with Adam. Then Nick could hire TJ to find them

Just read this and am still giggling! Even compressing 24 hours into 40 minutes of “air time” is still a waste of time.

It is to bad but the character has run its course nick and sharon are the end game! Mal could really give us a great story with the baby reveal and Chelsea taking the child and running off

I hate seeing the character of Chelsea gone. I love her character. I will say that she was wrongly paired with Nick. She belonged to Adam period. Now that his character is gone, she lost her path. I wish Melissa Claire Egan much success in her future. She is great.

I’m shocked. Loved her on AMC & Y&R. I was hoping
They would bring back Adam to shake up her
Storyline.

Yes, I agree, Katiek. I was hoping the same thing….bring back Adam. I was sooo wrong. I was sure Adam would return ( even as a recast), simply because their story is not done…..it has been in limbo for so long, I thought, for sure, Adam would return.
I was looking forward to solving the Christian mystery….the confrontation between the two brothers, and then sticking it to Victor.
I was waiting for Chloe coming back to “life”….and Kevin…oh, how I miss Kevin!!
Now, what?? Well, Adam may still be alive; may still return….I always hope….

I thought that had to be her money stashed in the wall. I loved crazy Annie Lavery. After reading the other comments, it does seem like she has not really had much to do as of late-I thought they were going to dig more into her sordid past-perhaps they were when she decided to leave. I think it is sweet of Mal Young to leave the door open for her to return. It must be hard to see Justin have so much success in primetime-and way more money and prestige. I can’t blame her for wanting to see if she can have the same success herself. I have not been thrilled with her character on YR, but to me she is a familiar face that I have enjoyed watching. Best to her.

Ok, there is NO hiding from Victor Newman. We all know that. So gonna call out the hidden pile of cash as fake drama. Chelsea has had a successful design business for some time, so we know she must have some cash to her name. She is not running from the law-she is running with Victor’s grandson-unless she leaves him behind-which who knows-why didn’t she just leave and keep her cash safely in the bank? Yes, we know she is the scam queen and fake ids-but nothing has stopped Vic’s international team of experts from locating anyone, ever. Does he know what’s her name is alive and with Kevin? I forget. But Chelsea has always been a good mother and visits with the grandparents could easily be arranged with her offscreen, so I am still not down with the cash stash in the wall.

I have a hunch that Chelsea is going to exit with Adam and she knows he’s really alive. She didn’t seem that surprised upon learning that there was a million bucks stashed in the wall of her home.
I bet you Justin Hartley will make a cameo and Adam and Chelsea are going to walk off into the sunset.

I don’t think so, Harry-but who knows? I think she is the one who has been defrauding Fenmore’s and sending out her own dresses and keeping the cash. Why, I don’t know-I mean we know she used to be a scam artist-so maybe she is returning to her roots and will then split town with one of her many identities. I would think she had plenty of money she earned legitimately. We should find out pretty quick, though.

@Phyllis…I initially thought you were going to say that Chelsea was defrauding Fenmore’s by wearing something once and then returning it as new and unused…don’t you just hate when that happens?

With the void left in Chelsea s departure bring Avery back in a triangle with Nick and Sharon! I want to see Avery come back with a gripe against Sharon over Dylan s departure. I miss Avery when she was a hard nosed lawyer before she got a silly cooking show. Nick could use his old lawyer gf to help defend him against all his fathers dirty deeds. also need a thorn in Sharons side before the Shick reunion plays out

Avery was awesome!

I loved Betty Crocker! Yes, bring back Avery and her cupcakes.

Perhaps she’ll bring her ”cupcakes” to Port Charles……they’ve been a bit low on baked goods since Liz has stopped making her famous brownies every five minutes! I’m sure if “Avery” would just set up a sales stand in the GH parking lot, Frank would take notice….and voila! Another newbie character before you can say, “One red velvet, please!”

I’ll put this one like this: I really liked MCE’S character of Chelsea…until Y&R got all STUPID and decided to pair Chelsea with that STUPIDLY LOVESICK Nick!!!!! Anyway, I wish Melissa Claire Egan the very best of luck in terms of her future endeavors.

Later.

Only liked Chelsea with MM s Adam .

Never felt comfortable with the Nick/Chelseapairkng. MCE is talented and will do well after Y@R.

Sorry to see her go. As many others have said her character is not the best, but she is great. I wish her nothing but the best.

I wish her well. But first, I hope Chelsea tells nick, he is not Christians father

Chelsea was my favorite character on YR, largely due to MCE. However, Mal Young refused to write for her so I’m not surprised to see her go. It’s a gamble to get into Primetime/movies but Egan is definitely talented enough. She just has to find the right role.

why is Joshua Morrow still on the show ? I never warmed up to MCE either… but pairing her up… and any one with JM.. Nick is a death spiral.. and just a matter of time

Nick does nothing. he’s a lackey who “fights” for his mother… and tail between his legs… will never get passed his father… for any thing

he fails in all his relationships

whats the point ? his only true relationship is his sister Victoria.

otherwise… Joshua Morrow as Nick has been stuck with the same writing since his debut

it’s not his leading ladies… it’s how Nick is catered to… and dumbed down by his own parents

oh well

Time to bring in some new stories and new people. Stories are getting boring, Abby and Scott yuk, Sharon and Scott yuk, he’s closer to her sons age than hers. Phyliss and Jack boring, on,y good thing is JT. Coming back. Would be nice if he stayed for awhile. Let Chelsea go, no loss, not the actress, nut her stories have been blah. Same with Nick, give him a good story he’s a good actor and is being wasted with little bits here and there.

Good move, Melissa Claire Egan !!
In this day and age of the soaps it’s best to get out while you’re young and move up and onward..
It’s no longer cool to grow old and grey and die working in a soap.

The character is annoying and has zero chemistry with her leading man. Best of luck to her, however..

My guess is it comes out that Christian is really Adam’s and not Nick’s and that Chelsea knew which could make Nick break up with her. Then maybe Chelsea decides to leave town with her son Connor to get a fresh start but the door is left open for her to return one day.

I was NEVER a fan of hers! I wish her well. I do regret we wont see the brothers fight over her and the baby.

So sorry to see such a wonderful actress leave but I really think she was tops with Adam by her side but since he’s gone Chelsea role (when she’s on) is just making out with Nick. I don’t think they really utilized her talent properly and at the same time I’m sure we can say goodbye to a returning Adam. Very sad news but I do wish M.C.E. the best & thank you for entertaining us with Chadam.

I liked her!!

She was fun as Chelsea and, frankly, THE ONLY female character that actually acted like a mother and was actually more concerned with her child than with her job. As a mother, that radiated with me. Victoria, Sharon, Lily — all more concerned with themselves and not their children’s well being — Victoria especially after they were “born.”

Was looking for a reason to stop watching Y&R . It isn’t the same anymore so this is it! Loved Chelsea and Nick together!

What is wrong with the writers on Y & R! The topics are boring and messed UP! Please love Chelesa but she was given a boring role and Nick, he’s needs to go! Chelesa needs a larger role with her designs, not playing around with the boring Nick. Please stop the stupid story line of Chelsea stealing this is the last straw to say good by to watch the Young and the Restless for ever!

Chelsea is such a good actress, sorry to see her go. Nick and Chelsea make a good couple, and what about the the boys.

Ur right get Connor off the show ASAP
His dad is dead

Love ms.Eagan on y and r, don’t like how she was written out, but at least door is open for her return. We’ll miss you, shoulove of taken Phyllis with you. I agree with all above comments, they (writers)did not appreciate her talent. Wise up

‘The Bold and the Beautiful’s’ Kimberlin Brown Previews What’s Ahead for Sheila Carter

Published

on

By

Last week. the stars of The Bold and the Beautiful were in Monte-Carlo at their 65th annual TV Festival. With a full plate of: meeting the fans, attending the parties, talking with the press, and then shooting some remote scenes to air late this summer on the CBS soap, the cast had their dance cards full.

Kimberlin Brown (Sheila) sat down with the The Upcoming to give some insight into the life and times of Sheila Carter; acting on a soap for more than three decades, and a tease of what’s to come in the next few months for her character.

Brown previewed: “My producer last night shared some tidbits with me and there’s some really good stuff coming up for Sheila. It’s going to involve a little drama, a little bit of romance, and a lot of comedy.”

Photo: JPI

As B&B viewers know, Sheila wants Deacon (Sean Kanan) and Taylor (Rebecca Budig) to guarantee that she can be part of her son, Finn (Tanner Novlan) and her grandchild’s life in return for signing the divorce papers. Ultimately, will Sheila ever truly sign them? Stay tuned.

The popular star, who has made playing bad so good also added, “I mean where else can I do things that you should be in prison for? There are people at home going, ‘go, go get ’em.’ It is like they’re rooting for me, because I’m doing what maybe they want to do and would never get away with. So it’s an escape. Daytime is truly an escape.”

Speaking of the fun of playing all the plots she has involved with on daytime from her early years on The Young and the Restless to The Bold and the Beautiful, Brown noted “I think that the real joy to playing Sheila is I do things that nobody else does. And I was told when I got this part, don’t play it safe. There is no wrong. And as an actress to get a note like it just means that I can do things that nobody else can and smile about it and, you know, get away with it. Do I pay consequences? Yes, I do, but she always comes back. I’m the character that people love to hate and I’m the character that people sympathize with because all she wants is love.”

You can check out the full conversation with Kimberlin Brown below.

So, what do you hope Sheila does next? Do you think she will keep Deacon and Taylor apart? Will she get involved with someone else? Share your predictions via the comment section below.

Christel Khalil Reveals She Almost Quit Acting After ‘That’s So Raven’ Audition, But Then Came ‘The Young and the Restless’

Published

on

By

The Young and the Restless fan favorite, Christel Khalil (Lily Winters) is the special guest on this week’s edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart which dropped today on Tuesday, June 23rd.

During the interview with Rebecca and Greg, Khalil who had played Lily Winters on-screen since August of 2002, nearly 24 years with the CBS soap, shared how early on her teenage acting career, she was ready to call it quits in show business, after a heartbreaking audition for the lead of a new Disney Channel sitcom, which later turned out to be the hit seres, That’s So Raven, starring Raven-Symoné which ran for four seasons from 2003-2007.

Christel recalled what happened. “I was 14 and I had always auditioned for all these Disney projects. So I auditioned for That’s So Raven, it was between me and Raven-Symoné and it was called at the time Absolutely Psychic,” explained Khalil. “The character was this girl who had psychic ability, but then when Raven got the role, they named the title of the show after her.”

Photo: CBS

HOW A BROTHERLY TALK CHANGED THE COURSE OF CHRISTEL’S CAREER

Reliving the disappointment to Greg and Rebecca, Christel explained, “I lost that part and I was just so devastated, because for the network call there were 20 people in the room watching me, and I just have always had such performance anxiety. I just completely bombed the audition and it was terrible. So, I was just devastated. I was actually going to quit acting and then I got the final call for The Young and The Restless and I wasn’t going to go.”

It was Khalil’s brother, who actually got her to reconsider, and if he hadn’t, we would not have our Lily Winters in Genoa City! Christel recounted, “I was like, ‘You know what? I’m done. I don’t want to do this anymore. I’m just going to hang out with my friends.’ I was just devastated. My brother, who is seven years older than me, and he had quit acting at the same age that I was at that time. He said to me, ‘I promise you, I actually really regret quitting. Just go on this audition and if you don’t get it, you can quit.'”

Christel’s screen-test for the role of Lily was actually with the late, great, Kristoff St. John who would play her father Neil (Later it was revealed to Lily, that Neil’s brother, Malcolm Winters was her bio-dad).

Photo: CBS

ACTING WAS EASY WITH THE LATE KRISTOFF ST. JOHN

“So, I went (to test for Lily) and I remember the screen-test was with Kristoff St. John. It was just so easy to act with him because he’s just so there. I remember just being on set, and that was my first time there for a screen-test where you were actually on set. I had never experienced that before. It was my first time being with an actor and  having makeup done, which just helps you really be able to do your best work.”

Recalling the screen-test with the St. John, Khalil, “It was where I had to be emotional ( in the scene) and I always had issues being emotional at auditions. But I was there with him, it just came, and it happened. It was natural and I felt so good and it was amazing. It stands out in my mind a lot.”

You can check out the full Soapy conversation with Christel Khalil where she also discusses juggling motherhood, marital life, and the demands of soap operas.

Fan can listen to weekly episodes of Soapy on Audacy or wherever podcasts are available, and can watch full video episodes weekly on the CBS =Brand YouTube Channel. Whether a lifelong fan or discovering the genre for the first time, SOAPY offers a fresh, fun behind-the-scenes look at the stories – and storytellers – that define daytime drama.

Now let us know, over the years what had been your favorite Lily Winters story on Y&R as played by Christel Khalil? What did you think of of Christell’s recollection where she was up for the lead of “That’s So Raven” as a teenager, before it was even titled that? Let us know via the comment section.
