Steve Burton Returns to General Hospital
Hot on the heels of the news of his exit from Days of our Lives came a surprise tease at the end of Thursday night’s General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling special on ABC.
As the special came to its conclusion, Laura Wright (Carly) and Kelly Monaco (Sam) appeared and said, “You know what they say? When one door closes, another door opens.”
Next, Steve Burton appeared though the middle door of the set saying, “Happy anniversary, General Hospital. Stay tuned – big things are coming to Port Charles.”

Following the east coast airing, Burton took to DailyDrama.com and revealed he hasn’t taped his first scenes back yet, but Jason’s return is sure to be imminent.
Steve has had quite the on again and off again relationship with the ABC daytime drama series through the years. After an 11-year run that began in 1991, the actor left the show in 2012 and joined the cast of The Young and the Restless. In Genoa City, Burton played the role of Dylan McAvoy from 2013-17.
Next, in September of 2017, Burton returned for another run at GH, but was let go over four years later in November of 2021 for failure to comply with the Disney/ABC and GH Covid-19 Vaccine Mandate.

After leaving GH, in 2022, Steve returned to another show he appeared on early in his career, Days of our Lives, in the role of Harris Michaels. Burton first appeared back on their limited series Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem Two. Then, in March of this year, he joined the mothership, but announced this week, he wrapped his run in Salem before the end of the holidays. Burton originally appeared as Harris back in 1988.
Steve has won two Daytime Emmys throughout his career for his performances as Jason on GH and Dylan on Y&R. With his upcoming return to the ABC daytime drama series, might he earn himself a third Emmy? Stay tuned.
So, what is your reaction to the news that Steve Burton is coming home to General Hospital as Jason Morgan? Comment below. But first, watch Steve’s surprise appearance on tonight’s GH primetime special.

Thank all that’s unholy! This show might make it to 65 years after all!
Here! Here!
Does this mean that Steve Burton has finally gotten a Covid 19 vaccination? It would be unfair to require every other cast member and employee to be vaccinated but not him.
Not standing up for Burton but he did not sue his employers like Ingo.
He doesn’t need to now; ABC dropped its vaccine mandate.
My guess–and it’s only a guess–is that at this point, that requirement for cast members has been dropped.
every cast member got the ‘vaccine’ and every cast member got covid. Good for Steve for standing up for his health as that ‘vaccine’ was never meant to be used the way it was and this is according to the man that invented it! Covid is a virus like the flu. MOST people recover; I recovered twice WITHOUT the jab. Good for steve for protecting himself and his health as he is a health nut
Every cast member didn’t get COVID, that’s a lie and a ridiculous statement to make.
The vaccine was never supposed to be a cure for COVID, meaning no one would ever get it. That’s not what vaccines are. I’m glad you recovered twice. Many people weren’t so lucky, including people in my own family, unfortunately. The vaccine saved lives.
It is nothing like the virus that’s the flu. Please keep your ignorance to yourself. Do you think the entire world went into lock down for “the flu?” Maybe 9,000 to 16,000 a year die in the U.S. from the flu. Over one million died from covid; hundreds of thousands in the first year, and that’s not including people who lived but had to be put on ventiltors, those that got strokes/blood clots, had to have limbs amputated, have permanent lung damage or long covid. Stop minimizing what so many died from, so many who lost loved ones, and so many who still suffer the ramifications.
When a new disease hits the world, and there is no immunity to it and at the time no virus, and people are dying, it’s not a “flu” and precautions had to be taken until it was better understood and there were more options to fight it. Stop trivializing it. Or at least spew your conspiracy theories on a conspiracy page; not here.
Love him ❤️ love gh
His hair looks different what did he do to it
I guess I’m in the minority, but I don’t really care that Steve Burton is coming back to GH.
The character of Jason was interesting years ago, but by the end of his last run, he was so boring and stale to me, I was fast forwarding most of his scenes. The most interesting thing they did with Jason on his last go around was the romance with Britt, cause it was something new and fresh. But that’s obviously out the window now. Steve used to play Jason with that edge and emotion, and somewhere along the way he became an emotionless robot.
I’m willing to give it a chance and see what they have planned. But I hope they have something new and fresh for him to do, cause if it’s the same old stuff with Sonny, Carly and Sam, I honestly could not care less.
Totally agree, Dan.
A minority of three … and counting …. yawn
Glad to see him back; I always love when any of the vets come back, and Sonny’s “business” has suffered story wise with Steve’s absence. Lots of story potential if they don’t limit him again to being Carly and Sonny’s lapdog. Unlike Ingo, who bitched and moaned and sued and couldn’t stop raging about GH and the mandate, Steve didn’t burn bridges and handled their decision professionally. I knew he’d be back one day and he no doubt knew it too. ”
Jason” needs a relationship whether it’s with Carly or someone else. I vote for Nina (who I always root for). I’d LOVE to see Carly and Michael’s cumulative fury if that happened. Go for it GH! Piss off those already pissed-off Sonny and Carly fans; Nina haters! lol
Oh my! Thought you just said you liked Jason, guess I’d be one of those passed off fans.
Meant pissed off. Sorry, Rebecca, but I’d rather be a Nina hater, deservedly so than a Carly and Sonny one. I don’t remember seeing them go out of their way to ruin someone’s life just out of jealousy and spite.
Hi Violet…hope you don’t take this the wrong way but: YOU MUST BE JOKING!!!! LOL. You “don’t remember seeing Carly & Sonny going out of their way to ruin someone’s life just out of jealousy and spite?”!!!!!! Carly’s entire character is based on her being vengeful, vindictive, spiteful. She took Michael from AJ FOR LIFE! She hated AJ; it wasn’t to “keep Michael safe.” If she wanted to keep Michael safe, she wouldn’t have made a mob boss his father. She wouldn’t have stayed with Sonny after Michael was shot in the head, comatose for a year, jailed, raped. She wouldn’t have drugged AJ when he was in recovery; sober. She wouldn’t have sneered at Monica every chance she got to tell Monica her son was a loser. She wouldn’t have tried to replace Ava in Avery’s life. She wouldn’t have helped Jax try to switch Spencer’s paternity test so that Jax could lie and pass off Spencer as his own son. She wouldn’t have come between Liz and Jason, Robin and Jason, Sam and Jason. Carly literally didn’t tell Nina about both of her daughters; not that Nelle had been her daughter or that Wiley is her grandson. She spent over a year trying to keep Nina from ever knowing that Willow is her daughter, and was never going to tell her. She knew how desperately Nina had wanted to find her daughter; everyone knew that. And yet Carly sneered in Nina’s face while Willow was dying that Willow “hates her.” She gladly walked Willow down the aisle, another part of Wllow’s life that Nina missed out on, while Nina wasn’t even invited and Carly gloated. Carly, who hated her own mother, Bobbie, who stole Bobbie’s husband, of all people knew that a mother and daughter who started out so badly could wind up close; yet she chose to never let Nina have that opportunity with Willow. She took it upon herself to deprive Nina of her own child…
Regardless of the idiotic dialogue the writers gave Nina, Nina didn’t act out of spite. She wanted payback, and Carly deserved it. Everything that Nina did in this story was in reaction to what Carly did to her first. And it’s Nina who suffered; not Carly.
Carly’s been a vindictive, spiteful, character from the time she came to Port Charles. That’s her M.O. Nina? She’s a much better “person.” She has conscience. She grapples with her decisions AND she has a tragic history. Carly’s just an arrogant self-righteous character; always has been.
I feel nothing for Carly’s “loss.” I feel for the real life loss of Jacke Zeman, and I may shed some tears at the memorial as I get nostalgic over “Bobbie” and all the years I watched her, but I never feel anything for “Carly” other than incredible dislike and fury. She’s the epitome of spite. As for Sonny? He’s less so than Carly, but him taking Michael from AJ for life and threatening AJ constantly was hard to watch for me. I had hope Michael would never forgive Sonny for killing AJ; and his taking back the Corinthos name after that was absurd.
Hello Rebecca!
Far be it from me to insert myself in a disagreement/discussion between two friends here… But I just want to give you kudos for your indictment of Carly. You have thoroughly outlined many of Carly’s transgressions/motivations in a way that is comprehensive and insightful. Glad you brought up A.J. and his son Michael. I was team A.J. all the way!
I have never liked Carly, nor have I ever liked Sonny. I gave up on GH long ago because of its unrelenting emphasis on these two toxic, self-righteous, mean-spirited abusive characters. I will watch the special episodes commemorating Bobbie (and Zeman). I will miss the show as it used to be. I think it’s sad, but telling, as reported by Michael Fairman (via Kin Shriner) that Zeman was positive and “was still hoping for a storyline.” Why make room for a legend when you can continue to cram Sonny and Carly down the viewers’ throats ad nauseum…
Did they fire Roger to pay for him? Sorry I would rather have Roger than the one note character Steve plays.
Agree, Michael.
And who did not see this coming? That was my immediate thought when I saw the headline about his exit from Days: Oh, he’s heading back to GH.
(Bet Ingo wishes he had handled things differently now.)
Welcome Back Steve Burton! The COVID vaccine fiasco should have never happened. As we now see how effective that vaccine was NOT. Still no clue the later effects that vaccine will have on us.
I’d be careful in making assumptions about what “we” now see. Speaking only for myself, I see a vaccine that saved lives, probably numbering in the millions, and made Covid less severe for countless others.
It was by no means perfect, or 100 percent effective, if that’s what you mean. I don’t–speaking, again, only for myself–see that as the same thing as not being effective, period. I’m glad it was available (especially for those of us older than a certain age), glad I took it, glad I’m still taking it, and glad there were rules restricting those who chose not to take it, so that the chance I’d be exposed to them was diminished (no, not eliminated, but diminished). Even if there do turn out to be “later effects” from the vaccine, I don’t think it’s going to change my mind about any of that; I weighed the probabilities and made a choice, and you won’t hear me whining about it. And I actually do respect anyone else’s right to look at those same probabilities and say “no thanks”–but that choice had and has consequences, just as mine did and does. I respect Steve Burton for (apparently; I have no inside knowledge here and am simply judging by his actions) understanding that.
“We” are glad that there was a vaccine that was very effective for what it was supposed to do, which was never to be a cure for COVID. That’s not what vaccines are. “We” are glad that the vaccine saved many lives from a disease that cost a lot of people their lives. You’re right, we don’t know for sure if there will be any after effects from the vaccine down the road. You know what we do know for sure, the effects of COVID for the vulnerable and people with pre-existing conditions. I’d say for you ask those people, but unfortunately they’re not here anymore. The vaccine saved lives, plain and simple.
This is the best news ever! As a 60 year GH watcher, I couldn’t be more excited to learn that Steve is back! Welcome home Steve aka Jason!
I agree started watching in 63 and love when Steve Burton @ Jason is on GH … to me he is the missing piece of the show… he makes the show so much better. ❤️
Yay! I can start fast forwarding some scenes again. I really don’t see the point. There is no place for him at this time. He should have stayed at DAYS where he was much more tolerable.
I can see so many possible story lines with Jason back. He and Carly were married, now divorced. Carly is with his ‘twin’ Sam is with Dante. Sonny just beat the shit out of Cyrus and now will have 2 strong side men. Jason and Sasha? So excited
I am overjoyed. The empty space left by Jason, I believe contributed to the downfall of Sonny. Perhaps this will help Sonny return to the dynamo he was before Nina. I personally like Jason with Carly. Their wedding was awesome. Of course this is all up to the writers, but I would love to see Sonny restored to the man he was.
Amen!
I will always want Sonny and Carly reunited. I really liked Jason with Brit but she is gone now so that’s not happening.
He is an original Quartermaine and for that alone, welcome back !
Ughhh…
By the way Michael. It was a nice tribute to Barbara Jean Spencer on Youtube with some of her former lovers, and colleagues.
I have to agree with Dan W, and the other few of us about Steve. I’ve been watching GH since the beginning of time! I used to love Steve saving the day. Yet it turned into a boring triangle with Carly, and Sam. Yawn, yawn, fast forward to next scene when he was on. He has no personality to me. (Sorry Steve, not you just the character.)
Now I’m wondering if they’ll let Evan Hofer as Dex Heller go now that Steve is coming back?
It’s been so refreshing to see Evan, as the new blood come in and get Sonny’s trust. I like Brick also, just nice to see Sonny taking a chance on Dex.
Now will Dex find a “legal” path instead of dealing with Sonny’s “coffee” issues, so he and Joss can be happily ever after? Oh wait it’s a soap, that doesn’t happen, does it?
Just don’t want any more people to leave!!! Miss my Roger Howarth and Marcus Coloma, love Kate Mansi, and hoping a successful recover to John York too.
I am very sad that he is leaving DAYS Of Our Lives. I enjoy his character now that he is a Salem police officer. What is Raf going to do? He is already short.
Good luck on GH. I JUST WISH YOU WEREN’T LEAVING. WRITER’S YOU GOT THIS ONE WRONG!!!!
