The date has been locked on the calendar, and now the daytime television community, including your favorite soap operas, will find out who will be going for gold at the 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards this coming October.

As had been rumored for next week, NATAS (The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences) will officially unveil the nominations on Thursday, July 10th beginning at Noon ET/9am PT on X via the handles of @TheEmmys and on TheEmmys.TV, the official website for the NATAS.

The confirmation came from a post on the @DaytimeEmmys account which said, “It’s happening…. next week. #daytimeemmys nominations are coming July 10th.” Pictured below, are some of last year’s winners.

This has been a long wait for fans and those who work in television and streaming series within the current framework of the Daytime Emmys. The upcoming nominations will be for performances and shows from the 2024 calendar year (January-December). That means that CBS’ new soap opera, Beyond the Gates, is not going to be included in the competition until next year, when performances and shows in 2025 are honored in 2026.

Earlier this year, NATAS made the decision to move up their News and Doc Emmy Awards, and swap them with the Daytime Emmys ceremonies.  Thus, those awards were handed out last week at the end of June (where the Daytime Emmys usually have been), while the Daytime Emmys were moved to the fall.

Here are the categories that are expected be announced next Thursday for the 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Daytime Talk Series, Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program, Outstanding Culinary Program, Outstanding Entertainment News Program. Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series,  Outstanding Talk Show Host, and Outstanding Culinary Host.

The performances categories expected to be announced are: Outstanding Lead Actor in A Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series, and the newly created Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama.

As previously reported, this will be the first year that the Daytime Emmys have included their new category, Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama, which came off of the trouble in recent years NATAS has faced wih the age limit in the younger acting categories or the number of performers who could qualify. In this new-version, it is said to be a category specifically for people who are on their first daytime contract, which in theory, could include some of the younger talent on the soaps, but spreads its net much wider.

In addition, as of press time, there is no word yet on if the 52nd annual Daytime Emmys have locked in a broadcast partner, or will be just streaming. CBS has previously been NATAS’ broadcast partner for the past four years from 2021 through 2024; in two year deal that re-upped for two more years through 2024.

So, excited to hear we will finally learn who received a nomination for the 52nd annual Daytime Emmys? Now below in the comment section, let us know who you hope makes the list in the Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress, and Supporting Actor and Actress categories, as well as Guest Performer in a Drama Series and any picks for the new Emerging talent category.

Egad, we’re halfway through 2025 and we’re thinking back to last year!

For the female acting categories, there’s two clear front runners. In lead, Nancy Lee Grahn for Alexis reaction and aftermath to Sam’s death. MTS & Case might both get nominated and cancel each other out.

In supporting, if Susan Seaforth Hayes is not the top choice on every ballot, there’s no justice.

The emerging talent should be Kristen Vaganos’ to lose.

Not even sure what the maximum allowable episode count is for a guest. Rick Hearst should submit here. GH will could also promote Ellen Travolta as well.

Agreed on all points. Do you think Steve Burton could be a Lead Actor Nominee?

Steve is one who teeters on the lead/supporting categories despite his comeback in March of 2024, Jason really didn’t drive story that year. He was really good when Sam died, so he could find the right episodes to submit. He’s have a stronger chance to win in supporting.

Nancy is also one who moves back and forth between categories. For 2024, she definitely would be considered lead.

I hope General Hospital wins for best daytime drama

Good luck to everyone!

Looking forward to seeing who’s nominated!

I hope that Deidre Hall will be the lifetime achievement winner.

Agreed. It’s time for her to get it. Love to have Susan Seaforth Hayes and Suzanne Rogers give her the award.

I am bummed that BTG isn’t eligible yet; I think several cast members are real contenders in the acting categories, and it should (so far) win hands down for Outstanding Show and Writing. I guess I’ll have to wait until next year.

It’s probably been this way for a long time and I just haven’t noticed because on the whole I don’t care very much about the Daytime Emmys anymore (they should have made it an option to have nobody win Outstanding Show and nobody win Outstanding Writing Team, then maybe I would have continued to care; I would pay cold, hard cash to watch an awards ceremony in which after all the nominees for Outstanding Show were announced, the presenters opened the envelope and announced that nobody was getting the award that year; can you imagine the reactions we’d get to see? And maybe TPTB would get the message, finally.), but why on earth are they so late into the following year for the previous year’s work? It certainly dulls the impact some. Not that I won’t be happy for the actors and actresses who win (assuming there are no complete travesties, which I know I can’t count on), but geez, you act your heart out in, say, February of 2024, and you don’t get recognized for it until maybe September of 2025? You don’t even get to know you’re nominated until July of 2025? Wow. I’m sure the performers are happy to pick up the statuette regardless, but it’s kind of anticlimactic at that point. NATAS couldn’t manage to do the nominations in January or February and hold the awards ceremony in March or April (at the latest)? I fail to understand why not. I get that maybe they are trying to align the dates (more or less) with the Prime Time Emmys, but the prime time season runs September to May, really; if they feel they have to have the Daytime Emmys at about the same time, how about making the eligibility year June to May? At least then the contributions that are being celebrated wouldn’t have this “ancient history” feel. Oh well.

Imagine the DAYS performers who shot their eligible scenes in the first half of 2023 that won’t know if they won until October of 2025. Nearly 2 1/2 years.

“I am bummed that BTG isn’t eligible yet; I think several cast members are real contenders in the acting categories, and it should (so far) win hands down for Outstanding Show and Writing. I guess I’ll have to wait until next year.”

My question: has any daytime drama ever been nominated for Emmy’s & won awards for the work they did during their “freshmen” season?

I’m guessing not, but then again, it’s been 25+ years since the last soap premiered, and the competition used to be much more numerous. In a field with only 4 other soaps, I think BTG has a real chance. (One possibility from long ago could be Ryan’s Hope: I’d have to do some research, but I wonder if Helen Gallagher won one of her umpteen Best Actress Emmys in her first season?)

I just checked: Helen Gallagher did indeed win for Best Actress in the first season in which Ryan’s Hope was eligible. So it’s not unheard-of, but nonetheless extremely rare. I didn’t see anybody else between 1975 and 2000 (though it’s not impossible I missed somebody).

Any show but gh for the win they have won multiple times and in the last few wins not deserved at all A major yes to Susan Seaforth Hayes she deserves the nomination and win for supporting actress and sorry haters CAse Stafford and Steffy all deserve noms

Evan Hofer as Dex should win for his profoundly deep performance. He was downright poetic in his scenes giving off James Dean vibes. Bring back Dex!

Back to trolling the site? Why don’t we just give Hofer a Lifetime Achievement Award?

Can we do that?

You’ve been nominated for a spot in Shadybrook.

This post wins my award for . . . I don’t know what, exactly, but it’s the funniest post I’ve seen in a while. Thanks for the laugh!

I am being biased, but GH had some great performances in the past year. First, Nancy Lee has to be a frontrunner for Best Actress. Her scenes dealing with Sam’s death and the aftermath were amazing. Second, Michael Easton should not be forgotten for his scenes dealing with Gregory’s death and his alcoholism was his best work. Third, how great would it be to see Jane Elliot go up against Susan Seaforth Hayes in Best Supporting Actress? Two classy, beautiful veterans competing against each other after all of these years. I would also love to see Kristen Vaganos win as Molly. She was one of the best new hires of the year.

Next year, Giovanni (Gio) should win Best Supporting Actor for the reveal of him being BLQ and Dante’s son. Amanda Setton as BLQ has also had a strong year.

Elliot doesn’t submit for consideration. The last time Frank talked her into it, she lost to
Inferior competition.

It’s SSH year – it would be a waste for Jane this year.

Mazza should compete in the Emerging Category as they have a two year window for eligibility.

Zamprogna should consider submitting for lead. Tyler won in that category, DZ could as well.

Can’t even remember last year performances. Why is Kimberlain Brown never nominated?

I know we both want to do it.” Marcy simply nodded and responded “Amen.”

‘Days of Our Lives’ Officially Confirms Ryan Quan Returning as Co-Head Writer Beginning in July

Published

There is definitely a shake-up going down at the writing team at Peacock’s Days of Our Lives. Now, the long-running soap opera has confirmed, what has been previously reported, that current General Hospital breakdown writer, Ryan Quan is heading back to his old stomping grounds in Salem. This time as the series co-head writer.

The appointment of Quan comes with the official news that current co-head writer, Paula Cwikly, who was previously rumored to be departing the series, is not. She is staying with the soap opera and transitioning to a consultant role with the show. Now, Quan will join current co-head writer, Jeanne Marie Ford to steer the ship for the characters on the canvas.

On Wednesday, TV Insider, reported the official confirmation and that Quan will return to DAYS next month in July. In a statement to the outlet, executive producer, Ken Corday expressed, ‘We are lucky to have Ryan back in the fold. There are very few people who have such a deep knowledge and understanding of our show’s history. Stay tuned!”

THE FUTURE OF DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Since Days of our Lives unusual production schedule tapes ten-months ahead of air, the new creative team’s vision led by Quan and Jeanne Marie Ford are not expected to stream on Peacock until mid-2027.

Days of Our Lives is currently renewed through its 63rd season. The former NBC soap opera which transitioned to Peacock in September of 2022, celebrate its 60th anniversary in November of 2025.

The writing regime change comes after NBCUniversal Media Chairman Matt Strauss revealed that Peacock is expected to turn a profit for the first time in the current quarter, punctuating their investment with the enduring soap opera on its platform.

As for Quan, his knowledge of Salem is tremendous. Ryan joined Days of Our Lives as a writer’s assistant in 2007 after some time over at Passions. He then spent two decades and held every position on the writing team where he previously served as co-head writer from 2016-17 alongside Dena Higley.

Later, when Ron Carlivati took over as head writer for 7 years in 2017, Quan became his right-hand man and main story consultant for his deep knowledge of the history and the legacy of the show. After Carlivati exited the show in 2024, General Hospital hired Quan in 2025.

So, what do you think about DAYS making it official with Ryan Quan as the new co-head writer of the series alongside Jeanne Marie Ford. What do you think about the fact we won’t see the changes on-screen till 2027? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

ABC Announces ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Texas Spin-Off Gets Straight-to-Series Order

Published

By

In a surprise move, coming a week after ABC unveiled its 2026-2027 fall television schedule, Grey’s Anatomy is getting a new spinoff co-created by the original series’ creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes.

The new untitled medical drama will be written and executive produced by Rhimes and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner/executive producer Meg Marinis under the Shondaland and 20th Television umbrella. In addition, long-running ‘Grey’s’ star Ellen Pompeo will also serve as an EP of the spinoff.

The upcoming new series will debut midseason in 2027. This will be the first of Grey’s franchise not set in urban city or West Coast locale. According to Deadline, the new “edgy drama is about a team at a rural West Texas medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”

Photo: ABC

In a statement, Marinis shared, “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”

A NEW GROUP OF DOCTORS IN RURAL TEXAS

The Texas spinoff will feature a a new group of doctors, but there will be some connection to the OG Grey’s Anatomy and possibly to Debbie Allen’s character of Catherine Fox. The amount of episodes in the series order has not yet been determined. Previous Grey’s Anatomy spinoffs were the defunct Station 19 and Private Practice.

Previously, Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for its upcoming 23rd season while the amount of episodes is unclear.  The last two seasons the series produced 18 episodes.

It should also be noted, Grey’s Anatomy and the Texas spinoff would likely share a time period, which requires limited-run orders for both with Grey’s premiering in the fall, followed by the spinoff on the midseason programming block.

So, what do you think about a Texas spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy coming in 2027? Who would you like to see from daytime or primetime as some of the featured roles as new doctors? Put on your casting directors hat and let us know via the comment section below.
